The cyborg thingie in walking proud maybe related to the lies she told, she said surrounded by lies right, something artificial and not real....

For me the hardest ones are kanariya and SURREAL maybe, her old PVs are hard to interpret too

Ladies night. The whole thing is just too weird and the ending really freaked me out. What's with the bright corridor, the dimly lit hotel rooms, ayu's neon-purple dressing, the creepy victorian-dressed ladies in strange rooms with strange decor, then there's the part where she's like hitler or something and people are marching..?

ohsixthirty 3rd November 2008 06:08 PM

i always thought it was ladies night. that pv is all over the place.

but its one of my favorites.

Yeah alterna is pretty hard, mostly because we can't really interpret what the extras such as the clowns and the eyeballs are about.

I think the basis of the PV is an interpretation of the music industry. They take advantage of singers dreams of becoming a star and turn them into machines for making money until they are no longer profitable. This is what I interpreted after seeing Ayu open the letter saying "CONGRATULATIONS! YOU ARE THE STAR!" and her all excited, even during the questionable meeting with the freaky clown that doesn't look trustable. Her torso on the mini-stage dubbed "The singing machine" with the clowns taking photos and newpaper prints of the "Best Hit Singing Machine" suggested the music industry's high level of advertisement to maximize revenue. Then her torso outside the appliance store (act labeled "Garbage Dump") is a reflection of what the industry does after the talent runs out, throws them away like garbage.

^ I tought ALTERNA is just like:
It's about that everybody is a most-wanted doll in a show.. but when somebody is "better" or so.. then it will end up in hopeless... (destroyed Ayudoll)
Something like that

Um... walking proud, and kanariya..

Also, in About you there's a man with a cat snout (Duty) and the half naked girl has a raven in her hands at some point (kanariya?).

^ I agree completely with the alterna thing. And the eyeball, notice that her eyes are closed during part of it, I think it means that even when she wants to ignore things she can´t?

I have theories for Ladies Night and ourselves:

-Ladies Night shows the different kinds of women: All those behind the doors, the ones who only care for the looks (the butterfly one), the one that secretly dominates the man (the maid hitting his employer) and Ayu, who is like calling her girlfriends to let her out of that creepy place. Then ayu´s army is like the world become dominated by women. I think she is critising the idea that womens are superior than men, and then it ends equality anyway. Because she is also shown without face, like she loses her identity... and the creepy man is the men´s revenge?? xDDDDD It´s a bit scrumbled up but I think it may clear up the idea for some.

-ourselves is clearly about fans acossing her, when they adore her so much that it becomes an obsession (the guy licking and kissing her picture) and they want to become like her (all the others with the ayu masks) and the haters (those ripping her pictures and smashing the TV where she is on) and the gothic ayu is like her real self, fighting against all that, I think.

And refering to Mirrorcle World, I think she just went: ooooh Pariiiis!!! What a chic place! Gimme the biggest dress you´ve got and lets pose :3 and those frenchs extras can chase me because I´m so pretty and glamorous *-* (dies of a glamour attack xD)

ComatoseBunnySnatcher 3rd November 2008 11:02 PM

^ LOL I think Mirrorcle World is supposed to be the new installment
in the James Bond franchise XD

rakeru 4th November 2008 03:31 AM

ALL OF THEM.
but specifically, 1LOVE, No way to say, and walking proud.

ImpactBreaker 4th November 2008 03:57 AM

I don't think alterna is that hard to interpret. I think it's a little clear that ayu is showing how media abuses pop stars, by following them with papparazzi (the clowns), "terrorizing their lives" (artists lose their privacy), and then how they help to make a star rise (BEST SINGING 'MACHINE') and then later throw them on the trash, by destrying their fame with tabloids (the machine tossed on trash in the end).

GRACE 4th November 2008 03:58 AM

alterna and ourselves are really the only two I get. And alterna more than ourselves. Other than those two, I don't get ANY of her PVs >.>... But they're still entertaining XD

I thought alterna was more the record company, not the paparazzi. The company signed her in at the beginning of the PV, and then transformed her from what she was, into a machine that did only what they told her to do. And then, typical of a music scene, what she was doing was "mass produced" by other singers, and then she wasn't necessary, so they got rid of her.

darkcarousel 4th November 2008 04:26 AM

Ladies Night, definitely.

The clowns take pictures of ayu and then her pictures are displayed on paper the next day "THE BEST SINGING MACHINE". The clowns also stalk her. That sounds more like paparazzi than "record company". There was no other "singer" in the video. All singers were her; all machines were ayu, but in the end the achines are just forgotten and tossed in trash. There is probably a crossed criticism involving record companies in it too, but I can't remember everything of the video now.

I think at that time ayu was being targeted by a lot of chinese tabloids, but i don't recall she having problems with avex at the time of alterna's release...or was she?

I don't know, the clowns where also sent her the "You are the stars" and made her into the singing machine, perhaps they function as both. Also, there's only one Singing Machine in the trash at the very end, I took that to be the original who got the invitation at the beginning was thrown away for a new singer, who was basically reproduction of herself.

ImpactBreaker 4th November 2008 05:05 AM

^Yeah, but even with different ways of interpretting it, I don't think that PV is that hard to draw conclusions, even if the conclusions might all differ (I know that you agree with me in the part that it isn't the hardest to interpret, even though we might have different interpretations). I mean, it can't really be compared to PVs like Moments in which things seem so disconnected and nonsensical with her in a room sitting on a chair, then kids playing and later breaking dolls in another room, and in another place she's all covered in oil with wings:shrug...In alterna at least we see there are clowns that follow her, that probably lead her into some sort of a trap, stalk her, mass produce her and later trash her.

(miss)understood 4th November 2008 05:07 AM

Moments is not hard to interpret.

The children pulling apart the doll - representing the person whose heart began to be scorched, and "fell into an abyss"

when shes on the ground, this is her being "tarred and feathered," still representing the person who was being treated wrongly and going through hard times

alterna isnt hard either
its about her career
and the boy at the very end who lifts up her skirt? its the effect caused by the way the industry markets women
