You'll notice that the charts over here
http://recochoku.jp/recochoku_rankin...tist_full.html don't have any of the songs listed, just the artists names. Considering Ayu's right there next to to GReeeeN and EXILE (and Ku of course), I'd say she is still doing great popularity wise :)

That's what I'm thinking it has to be. So actually its primarily her back catalog that seems to have gotten her the #3 spot. Still though, it just goes to show how much some of those songs have stood the test of time. :)
I think it also depends a lot on how much each artist has available for purchase - I just looked through the list of available recochaku songs for Ayu and it seems they've made every single version of every song ever made availabe. Even live versions. Seriously its like insanely long. I checked compared to other artists and she seems to have by far and away the most stuff available for purchase. Ayu - 1,223, Greeeen - 48. lol. I'm not a fan of Greeen but to get number 1 with that few tracks available for purchase just shows how much of a hot thing they are right now. Just for further information, Exile: 276, Koda: 313, Juju w/ Jayed: 1(! and is #5 for the year overall), Namie: 84 (I expected way more for Namie). Obviously Ayu is going to have a bit of an advantage when it comes to overall ranking... :) |
