Ayu should do a sit down confessional interview like when koda kumi did one about the womb comment and bravely took off her nail art.

I'm a physician (though my speciality is not obstetrics but neurology, though when I got in university my first interest was Gyn/obs).

The fact a woman hasn't reached menopause (around their fifties, plus or less), doesn't mean pregnancy doesn't become riskier to the mother and the child after the mother is past 35. It's already scientifically proved that women over 35 are at a higher risk of having babies with serious illness, mainly, chromosomal disorders, specially down syndrome. While ovulation ceases with menopause, way before menopause, some of the eggs are already aged, and susceptible to errors during division, meaning one egg will not carry one of the chromossomes and the other will carry an extra copy, because differently from spermatozoids which are constantly renewing, the eggs have been the same for those 35+ years. Of course the risks become more significant perimenopause, and some of the popular belief is a little exaggerated but still it is matter of concern for some women.

Japan is probably concerned with that, though I can't make assumptions based in one person, but... Koda Kumi even made a scandal a few years ago when she told she wanted to run against time in order not to have babies with problems because she was reaching and older age, but the way she said was quite crude, so it brought negative criticisms to her.
Even in my country, I see many women concerned about getting past the 35 without any child. I'm not saying this is necessarily rational, as indeed women can have healthy babies even when they are about to reach perimenopause, nor am I encouraging that women shouldn't have children past 35, because at the earlier years past 35 the risk is still low, though it does rise in comparison to women below 35.

And, of course, a women doesn't need to marry in order to have babies, nor are they forced to have a man anytime in their lives, nor it is necessary for them to have a relationship with a man of any sort in order to have a baby as there are sperm banks and other ways for conception, nor is it necessarily every women's goal to have at least 1 baby in life, but many women do care about that though (about becoming "aunties", "single moms", rarer but still of concern to some who are more ocnservative "pregnant before marriage" etc - it shouldn't be a subject of shame, and some of these prejudices are rather stupid, but society does put a lot of pressure on that even though it has changed considerably over the years). Maybe ayu does, maybe she doesn't [care]. But by the way she's been acting quite desperate over the past years, I'd guess maybe she might be concerned about some of those topics.

But then, maybe she just feels lonely and want a serious relationbship with someone so there obviously are many other reasons. Maybe she even isn't desperate, even though it might look so lol.

It's kind of funny how the Japanese often react to stuff like this when, according to numerous blogs I've read about Japan, it's really common for women to be in multiple short (under 6 months) relationships. But then, they put way weird standards on their celebrities :shrug

well, their idol needs to be perfect like god especially the female celebs

That's where I found it funny. I'm pretty sure she lost a lot of fans since 2012 because "Ayumi Hamasaki" is not perfect anymore. It's annoying to see people judge her without knowing the fact that she's Ayu now.

me too, i also found it so annoying.. some of my friends also said ayu has become so wild after she broke up with tomoya.. like...seriously??
and they said, tomoya is the only one who deserves ayu..OTL..
unless ayu decides to marry a man whom she knows just for few days, then divorce after 72 hours married (ala britney, sorry to bring her name here), people still have have reasons to criticize her. but ayu only has had 3 relationships in the past 3 years, that's really common.

its freaking annying to me too! sometimes Im just dissappointed with the japanese close minded thinking style in this case.

Look, if they want her with Nagase that much, are they blind? didnt they know that Nagase also cant/didnt have any long lasting relationship with woman , I red that before hes with Aibu Saki and then they broke up,also later he Shibasaki Ko had been saw dating with him, isnt that the good thing for him? or is it because hes a guy and its in their nature *shrugs*,and its normal but when a woman does it,shes wild or had changed to bad person :o

Zeke. 22nd December 2013 08:07 PM

Wasn't there rumors of Nagase being a sex addict? Lol. And it took a toll on his relationship with Ayu?

ExodusUK 23rd December 2013 02:13 AM

now u've mentioned it, about nagase, i don't dislike/hate nagase, but please people be fair~~ and ayu hasn't gotten any bfs since 2007 break up (donno if she actually did date behind the scene though lol).. after 3 years, she has just revealed her relationship until 2013~

truehappiness 23rd December 2013 04:58 AM

People have hated Ayu in Japan even before this though, so it's just more ammo for them, really.

douggn 23rd December 2013 05:14 AM

women at the age of 30+, their Biological Clocks do start ticking and that's not just a word to call a woman who's getting older. If anything 'Biological Clocks' is just the common popular reference to call what a woman's body starts to go through as her body matures.

But ayu may or may not want children. But also she may just want to have someone who loves her for her true self at the end of the day instead of having a baby. With her type of lyrics, I think she more want to find her one love in life. And she wasn't particularly free to have a social life in her 20's with Avex hold on her

I don't think ayu should have to. Its her personal life, she is entitled to have one, shes already giving her fans so much with time and everything. Koda's thing was a completely different. Koda accidentally insulted every 30 or so aged women who hadn't had children yet

Delicious n Bold 25th December 2013 06:53 AM

As much as I have no real say about Koda's comment since I'm a guy, it doesn't seem like something over which women should get offended. Koda was just saying it like it is without lying. Some people just can't handle the truth sometimes.
If she says it nicely, people will most likely find it slightly interesting for a day and then pay it dust. If she says it crudely, people will be pissed. Seems like a lose-lose situation.

I wonder if the people who were offended by the comment are the ones that aren't going to have kids + add to Japan's dwindling population.
Seriously, the population will be cut in LESS THAN HALF by the end of the century (50 or so million). Nobody wants to do it + those men want to mary their DSes. A damned Mess.

Not going to bring astrology in this, but I am since it's the easy way out.
Nagase is a Scorpio. It's the sign with the highest sexual drive and stuff like that.

Actually, nops... She said women over 30 have dirty/rotten amniotic fluid, what is far from what happens... She basically said the whole female adult population were had their insides going bad and impure.

kendelle 26th December 2013 01:26 PM

I don't think Kuu's scandal was that bad. Funny, hell yeah, but not really as bad as it blew out to be. Sure the term "rotten" to describe the amniotic fluid is over the top, but there are truths behind her intention and once you reach late 30s the incident of complications rises a lot.

I don't know if Ayu will have a baby with this guy, or even ever. I think she would be a wise mother or a great godmother to someone though. Her experiences make her really relatable to teenagers and young people which would let her bond with them easily. I think she would find it difficult with a young child though.

I agree with you.

Mid-life crisis, IMO. She'll come down eventually. If she does ever settle into marriage(for longer than a year) then maybe she'll establish some normalcy. I hope she's happy either way. I don't think this has a thing to do with releases or music but I think she was excited and really wanted people to know about it despite the claim otherwise.
