hmm,i don't know if this is true or not.i think the ayu who met accident and the 'goddess' ayu is two different character.
i think the 'goddess' ayu saw this 'story' and she's the narrator of this whole story. |
Interesting interpretations, waterballoon. :D I'm always up to hear interpretations about the letters, those seem to be the vaguest part for me, Shuya's life/death too.
Is it just me, or did Ayu pretty much change her image from being a biker chick to a more mature style by the end of the PV? Was that intentional or did they just change her clothes to fit the scenes? Damn, the last line, "nee yurushite..." is still haunting me. 0__0 The fact that the letters were excerpts from BALLAD's lyrics made me think that they were Ayu's words, seeing it from Shuya's point of view is also a possibility. |
I'll quote masa's translation...:

^ Which is why I thought it would be "better" if we watched the PV in Shu-ya's perspective; it kinda makes more sense, XD
@maj: I actually thought Ayu was in a doctor's coat towards the end... until it looked more like a sweater lol. It looked A LOT like the scene in Days where she was looking at the ring... same kind of hairstyle, and a white/cream sweater too omg. |
^Yea!! I was thinking..Ayu's look in the end was soo familiar! (whoa if this linked to Days...I'm gonna be so thrilled...it's as though saying...Shu-ya..even though you ditched me back in those Days, I still love you...)
FUNNY HOW SHUYA IN DAYS AND SHUYA IN BALLAD WROTE ON MOTORBIKES! garhhh this PV is soooooooo chaotic in a good way. Im loving it more. And yes waterballoon! I agree that Shuya was writing letters which never got sent..haha, I recognized that too. & very clever with the cat mask. |
Wow, waterballoon, great analysis. I love reading the thoughts of you guys. It's always interesting to see different interpretations!
|
All right, now that I've read all of your interpretations, I think I'll give mine on BALLAD :D:
1) About the black cats: where I live (Italy) black cats are avoided by superstitious people because they say that if a black cat walks in front of you brings bad luck and/or you might die. Maybe it's similar in Japan...? So, as others have said, I suppose that Shuya is brain dead. 2) About the letters: I think they are a representation of what ayu has been saying to him ever since he fell into the coma. As you probably know, many patients who woke up from a coma said that they knew what was happening around them. That's why we also see them in the end. So, I think that the last letter, "I'm sorry...", is probably ayu saying to him that there's nothing that can be done to get him back. A beautiful video, I must say. Even though... yes, Shuya probably overacted a little bit. XD |
ooooh maybe it's just me for the old thing then?
but i swear, in You were... she jumped in a time machine and began to look her age LOL but then she came back to being 20-25 for BALLAD, which i don't mind one bit |
In my opinion, the "Sorry" letter is what Shuya had been trying to send the whole time. The other letters ("Please don't go" "Please stay with me") are Ayu's words to the comatose Shuya. The letters in the last scene, imo, were only there symbolically, Ayu couldn't see them. The first two letters and the sorry letter are in two different hand writings. All of the letters are also carelessly flying around, meaning they're unimportant. However the letter reading "Sorry" is pinned down by a rock, it's a symbolic delivery of this message from Shuya to Ayu.
I think Shuya definitely died at the end of this video, I can't really look at it any other way and have it make sense. The flower petals were scattered yes, but the flower wilted before this happened, and it was blown away by the wind, not scattered by GoddessAyu |
^I definitely like what you just posted. :yes That makes a lot of sense. I was trying to figure out if the Sorry letter was from Ayu or Shuya but your explanation really made me understand :D
|
I also think Shuya died at the end of the PV too. It was so sad :weep The letters confused me a bit too, so thanks for the explanation GRACE.
|
oooh hey hey hey
I just realized... if this is figured to be a link to Days, does it show the like the opposite of her feelings or something? cause ex) Together When... everyone noticed the lyrics were opposite of close to you then now with BALLAD in walking proud she said that she was watching his back as a guidepost to live, but now she says his back has vanished LOL WHOA! |
BALLAD is indeed a great PV from ayu!!
and i have to admit that, Shu-ya really looks alike with ayu in some extend/angles (some ayufan said "facial hairs" on ayu's face LOL). i thought the PV will be sth lrelated to oriental style but it turned out to be very westernized: corn field, mailbox, clock, hospital, motorcycle... only the "pink" ayu reminds me of celestial goddess. |
Some of these comments make me laugh, I hope people find this next comment a joke too.
>> I hate cats. I really do. She should have Harry Potter-ed it and used a black dog instead to be a Grim omen. Since she's such a dog lover, too. Haha. :D No, but seriously, one of her best PVs in quite a while. This comment is getting stale, but it really is, I thoroughly enjoyed the PV start to finish (well, kinda). Shuya ALMOST threw it off for me near the end after he finds out the postman is himself with his sub-par acting skills, but it cut off in the right intervals and stuff to make me not wanna "throw a stone at him". ;) And I agree with everyone who said she looks absolutely stunning. 'Cause she really does. I loved all the outfits. :D ----- And the You Were... performance was really good, in my opinion. She moves around a lot more, which was kinda strange, but for the most part, she seemed really emotional and it came across well. I didn't mind the shouting. |
I like waterballoon's interpretation, but I think there's a major theme missing from all of them: most are assuming that since Shuya is unconscious, that his messages or "letters" don't get delivered to the goddess Ayu above. But what about in reverse? When people are unconcious, it doesn't mean that they cannot hear or percieve what is going on around them. The final scene is of Ayu grasping Shuya's hand. She has been sending her prayers the entire time, and they are being "delivered" into Shuya's subconcious state.
Shuya wouldn't be sending "please don't go" or "please stay with me" to Ayu. But it can be interpreted both ways - who is the sender? But Shuya is sending messages that we never see, except for the end.. "please don't go". When he tears open the mailbox, this is the letter we can see that is open. His letters never got sent. But he was recieving messages - were these his messages just being sent back to him? Is that why, the 2nd time it happens, he chases the mailman? All the messages are in the same handwriting - does this mean the same person thought them? Do thoughts all end up looking the same on paper? If these are just thoughts and prayers being sent into the conscious mind, the handwriting wouldn't indicate anything about who wrote them. I don't know.. this aspect of the video is so confusing. >__< |
^when I first watched it, I thought it was Ayu sending the letters...in fact, I thought it was obvious she was the one sending the letters lol
Now I'm not sure. Do we have an HQ yet? damn lol |

I firmly believe that when you are in a coma, you can hear things around you. You might not remember when you wake up, but I'm sure you can hear certain things, if not everything. I'm thinking the part where you see all the letters, is Ayu writing them, and she probably tells him too. That could explain why he writes them in his comatic dream and be related to all the letters in the room with Ayu. |
