Yamashita Tomohisa holds his first solo concert in Korea

NEWS member Yamashita Tomohisa held his first solo concert in Korea on the 16th. This concert was part of his Asia tour, “TOMOHISA YAMASHITA ASIA TOUR 2011 Super Good Super Bad.”

When the concert began, Yamashita thanked his Korean fans for all their support for Japan during these turbulent times. Soon after, the KBS88 Gymnasium was filled the screams of “YamaP!!” Yamashita commented that of all the stops on his tour, Korea had the most power. He said, “I’d like to share this power with Japan.“ Yamashita also shared that he loves to drink but during the concert he wanted to have fun as if he were drinking with everyone. With Johnny’s Entertainment group ABC-Z as his backup dancers, Yamashita and his fans got fired up for an entertaining concert.

Yamashita constantly shouted out “Thank you” and “I love you” out to the fans in Korean. When he tried to speak in English, the fans spoke by shouting out that they would prefer him to speak in Korean. A surprised Yamashita promised that he will practice more Korean for his next concert. He also expressed his interest for the Korean culture, telling everyone that he eats Korean food at least three times a week and even had a lot of Korean food when he arrived in Korea. He also shared that he reads letters from his Korean fans as well.

The two hour concert brought in a total of 4,000 fans. Pleased with the theatrics of the concert, fans called Yamashita up for two encores. Yamashita will have another concert on the 17th.

Marching J’s second activity to be a baseball game at Tokyo Dome

“Marching J“, which is a disaster relief project of Johnny & Associates, will be holding a charity baseball game at Tokyo Dome on May 29th.

As we reported previously, they held a fundraising event for three days in April, and the president of Johnny & Associates, Johnny Kitagawa, stated that he was planning to hold a charity event every month, with a part of the profit donated to disaster relief.

Yamapi will stage 2 more concerts at the same venue today & tomorrow before heading to Taiwan on 21st / 22nd May

Will Yamashita Tomohisa leave NEWS to go solo?

Tabloid blog Cyzo Woman published an editorial this week with supposed evidence that idol Yamashita Tomohisa might be leaving his group NEWS to officially become a solo artist.

On June 3rd, tabloid magazine Friday posted a photo of Yamashita and founder and head of Johnny’s Jimusho, Johnny Kitagawa, after a nice dinner on the town. After the photo was released, this comment was taken from “a reporter who knows a lot about Johnny’s Jimusho”:

“The third man in the photo, who had dinner with Yamashita and Mr. Johnny, was Warner Music Asia Pacific’s Lachie Rutherford…He’s the one who supposedly helped Akanishi Jin get a global contract with the company, and attended the press conference in December [announcing Akanishi's solo activities]“.

Rutherford himself was once an artist, so he has a deep understanding of music, and he is passionate about helping others grow as artists. This Rutherford attended Yamashita’s concert, and was supposedly watching the audience’s reactions and enthusiasm during his performance.

According to an anonymous person from the music industry, “There was a rumor that Yamashita was thinking about going solo long before his solo concerts were announced. But at that time Akanishi’s American tour wasn’t going well, so they decided to leave Yamashita in NEWS and let him have a solo tour. Now, since Akanishi has made his Hollywood debut, they say that there is a sense of competition and jealousy brewing between them, and Yamashita wants more than ever to leave the group and go solo”.

Back when Akanishi was planning to go solo, they say Johnny visited several of his solo concerts in Japan to encourage him in his solo pursuits.

“In fact, there is word that Mr. Johnny visited Yamashita’s solo concerts in Tokyo four days in a row. At this point, the idol is losing popularity after his scandals with women and his constant partying even after the disaster. He’s not on TV as much anymore, and he very much resembles Akanishi before his solo debut”, says another reporter who is familiar with Johnny’s.

Even while saying he will stay with his group, Yamashita has been quoted as saying, “I really want to create complicated dance steps with professional dancers. But with NEWS, it’s hard to get all of the members together, so it’s difficult to up the level of the steps”. Some fans interpret this to mean he is unhappy with NEWS. Not to mention NEWS hasn’t been active since last fall.

In addition, according to the previous reporter, NEWS member Nishikido Ryo’s other group, Kanjani8, is rumored to be having a nationwide tour and appear on 24-hour Television later this year, as well as celebrating their 8th anniversary as a group, so Nishikido won’t have a lot of time to spend with NEWS.

If the members of NEWS can no longer function as a group, each member will have to do solo activities. When it comes to that point, it remains to be seen what path Yamashita will choose.

Cyzo Woman seems to be convinced that Yamashita Tomohisa is trying to leave NEWS and go solo. Remember that this is a tabloid with anonymous commenters, so the information isn’t always 100% reliable.

you know , it wouldn't surprise me if this's going to happen . After what happened with Akanishi over at the KAT-TUN camp , this sounds like a natural step for Yamapi to do so :shrug

Should this become reality in future in that NEWS will be no more , at least now , I'm mentally prepared on this :O

Yamapi was already popular on his own before he was being drafted into NEWS

Should NEWS really disband , at least the rest have other things to fall back on such as Tegoshi & Masuda in line with Tegomass & Ryo with Kanjani8

And for Koyama , at least he still has Shounen Club to host/fall back but I don't know for Shige e_e

Also much as I dislike to say this but 2 years back on HEYx3 , Koyama even mention on the show that without Yamapi , NEWS is a goner due to some silly April Fools Joke that took place via sms :3

...since when has yamapi been partying with women and having scandals this year? LOL. i don't constantly follow info on NEWS or yamapi that much, but i didn't know this was happening. :P

i won't be surprised if yamapi ever does leave NEWS (it's kinda expected...), but at the same time, i always felt that he wouldn't. i just thought yamapi would care more about his group. after what they've been through (with losing 2 members & all of that) losing the leader of the group will be disastrous. it's not really that bad that jin left KAT-TUN, since as popular as jin was, he wasn't the leader. kame was. and KAT-TUN has been active as a group ever since their debut. i think they are more...stable as a group than NEWS. i just can't imagine them without yamapi. tegoshi & massu are the only ones, besides for ryo, who are releasing music outside of NEWS. what would the rest do? just TV stuff? and even with ryo still there, i don't think it's enough, especially since he is with kanjani8. it's not his fault, though. i'm glad eito are gaining popularity! this is just a really sticky situation when your part of 2 groups.

now if NEWS were to actually disband, as sad as i will be, i think i'll accept it. they aren't my main JE group (although they were the second group i've discovered) and the inactivity they have had since 2009 isn't helping, either. it's kinda affecting my interest. i honestly enjoy yamapi's solo music, lol. like i really do love what he does. but if yamapi is just gonna go solo just so he can compete with jin...i know it's business & it's johnny kitagawa and all, but.....i have respect for yamapi, and that respect would kinda go down a bit (i can't say just yet if i would lose all respect completely) if he goes solo for the wrong reason. i support this only if he genuinely wants to go solo. but i think it's just a bit mean to leave your group because of silly competition. but it's business, so....:shrug

cyazo is like a tabloid, right? so i'm not gonna worry right now. but whatever happens, it's not in our control & it can't be helped. like i said, NEWS might not be my main JE group, but i like all 6 members and their music. so a disbandment would just be an unfortunate situation. i would be sad. :(

Well it's not like his solo activities and NEWS activities conflict with each other!! NEWS doesn't even release stuff at all lately. I don't see how staying in the group will effect his solo career.
