The previews are amazing. Now I've really got high hopes for album.

drewbilation 22nd October 2008 10:12 PM

the live ver of "Girl Overboard" from the picture disc has been uploaded to YouTube.

also, Cheryl has caused a bit of controversy today by speaking out about Spice Girls:

Quote:

Cheryl Cole has slammed the Spice Girls claiming Girls Aloud are a better girlband.

The X Factor judge told Attitude magazine it infuriates her when aspiring singers say they want to be like the the Spice Girls because she feels they are pop flops compared to her own band.

Cheryl, 25, apparently ranted: "I think: 'Piss off!' We've been around for six years - they were around for 18 months!"

The mouthy singer claimed all Victoria Beckham, Mel B, Emma Bunton, Mel C and Geri Halliwell did was fall out with each other, while she and bandmates Nadine Coyle, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts, and Kimberley Walsh worked hard for their fame.

Cheryl said: "We recognise what the Spice Girls did, but it really annoys me when you meet girls who go: 'We wannabe the next Spice Girls.'

"Yes, they had worldwide domination, but they fell out, *****ed about each other and went their separate ways.

"We've been around all this time, fighting to climb each step of the ladder, putting our hearts into everything."
edit~ "Girls A Live" cover and the final tracklist are out:

Go Cheryl! Yes The Spice Girls did contribute to pop culture but nothing to music. Girls Aloud have some classic tunes which will still be played even after they split The Spice Girls...don't. I was, of course, an obsessive SG fan back in the day lol!

Will have to check out the Girl Overboard live version.

And that's one of the 5 million reasons I love Cheryl. She's honest, and I completely agree with her. As much as the Spice Girls may have accomplished, they were gone in the blink of an eye. To me, they're an enormous disappointment. I love them, and I always will, but Girls Aloud have always been there for their fans, and they're still going so that they can keep making music for all the people they inspire. I love them and they'll always be my favorite girl band.

Cheryl's right :)
It's sad that Girls Aloud aren't wordly successful like the Spice Girls were. I mean, they SHOULD be. Maybe someday they will ;)

bernardation 23rd October 2008 05:25 PM

well, I actually like the cover of 'girls a live' very much!

drewbilation 23rd October 2008 07:13 PM

"The Promise" is holding steady at no. 1 in the midweeks, and has now sold about 46k. it's already outsold the first week sales of all their singles except "Sound Of The Underground," "Jump," "I'll Stand By You" and "Walk This Way," too - though it will probably sell more than all but SOTU by the end of the week.

also, they've got several TV gigs coming up in the next few days~
Friday - Jonathon Ross
Sunday - T4
Monday - GMTV
Wednesday - This Morning

drewbilation 25th October 2008 02:23 AM

the girls performed "The Promise" on Jonathan Ross' show tonight. vocals were much better here than on X-Factor, imo.

also, scans from their Attitude article are here. this bit with Cheryl I'm sure some of you will enjoy:

Quote:

Switch the subject back to Mr. Moyles, and his predilection for using the word 'gay' to describe things which are, in fact, shite, and she's off.

"How do you get away with that?," she demands, face suddenly thunderous. "Why would you even THINK about using that word as a derogatory thing? Imagine if you're a 15 year-old boy, struggling to come out and say to his mam and dad who he is..."

She's getting REALLY angry now... empathising herself right into that little lad's shoes.

"And then he hears THAT on the the car radio. On the way to school! How ****ing disgusting! It's not funny. Nobody would even find it funny. This is what PISSES me off. If he was being racist he would ABSOLUTELY be taken off the air so quickly. How comes HE is allowed to get away with it? 'Aaaaaah that's GAY!' [She delivers a slow hand clap] Well done, mate. VERY funny. VERY clever. He should be a stand-up. ****."

God, we love you Cheryl.

bondingo 25th October 2008 05:59 AM

And I thought it wasn't possible for me to love Cheryl anymore. Well it is and I do.

bernardation 26th October 2008 07:04 PM

'out of control' leaked. and it's GREAT!

Kaiouforever 26th October 2008 07:54 PM

I am so excited to listen to it, I'm going to do it when I go to the gym.

drewbilation 26th October 2008 08:07 PM

oh, geedee it. I have no self-control when it comes to GA, haha.

edit~ made it through the whole album now, and it's pretty decent. not as instantly amazing as "Tangled Up" was, but it's definitely better than those 30 sec clips led me to believe it would be. having said that, "Untouchable" = AMAZING, though. it is potentially their best track EVAR imo. "The Loving Kind," "Miss You Bow Wow," "Revolution In The Head" (Nadine's "gimme da ting!" = hilariously ozzm) and pretty much the whole second half is quite good, too.

also! "The Promise" is officially no. 1 for the week. sales will be released tomorrow, but should be around 60k+.

the girls also performed a shortened ver of "The Promise" on T4 this morning.

bernardation 26th October 2008 09:56 PM

my favorites: fix me up, rolling back the rivers in time, love is pain.

Sarah is singing quite a lot, don't you guys think? well, she's my favorite, so I'm not complaining. I just miss Kimba, she should get more lines.

drewbilation 26th October 2008 10:07 PM

yeah, Sarah does get quite a bit of lines on this album. Cheryl and Nicola get a lot, too. Nadine got faaar less than usual, and Kimba gets about the same as she always does (not many, haha).

I think "Fix Me Up" is my least favorite song, tbh.

jknza2664 26th October 2008 10:09 PM

Miss You Bow Wow is remarkable! It starts off with the sweet surf guitar intro, then into the catchy 'everybody love love loves', then the dial 999 bit with its killer hook that i loved from the preview, then the miss you bow wow part, then that bittersweet CHORUS my god. And the incredibly 80s ending. Every part of the song is amazing in its own right and even manages to make a cohesive song.

Also, The Loving Kind is ace. I don't quite understand the love for Untouchable yet though...

^Ouch, thought all the girls - apart from Nicola - got on with Chris. When was the last time he referred to something as gay anyway?

mi|kshake~

drewbilation 26th October 2008 10:30 PM

^ tbh, I'm not sure, but Kimba has spoken out about Chris recently, as well. I think they're all a bit pissed about his attitude towards Nicola.

btw, sales are out and "The Promise" sold 77,110 copies this week, making it their second best first week EVER. it is also the best first week sales of the whole year by any act. Kimba was on Radio 1 talking about their chart position, too~

bondingo 26th October 2008 10:49 PM

I'm absolutely over the moon that they got number one. It's so hard to believe the last original song of theirs to get number one was Sound of the Underground. So many others deserved it (Call The Shots for one). Either way, I'm very happy. Hopefully the album reaches number one as well, but who knows?

I also won't be listening to the album until my copy arrives in the mail. It's so hard waiting though, but I'm doing it.

♥ you! 26th October 2008 11:01 PM

Does anyone know if they have big competition this week? I'm hoping they can get the #1 also.

Untouchable is my favorite :heart

drewbilation 26th October 2008 11:09 PM

the X Factor "Hero" single is released this week, so it might knock them down. Dido is releasing her new single, too.
