She can use what she wants. I can hope all I want that she doesn't, I'll just quietly cringe over it when she pulls out a funny title like Party Queen lol

Oh, I remember now my dream today. I dreamed about that they updated her official site/or TeamAyu (w/e) with realeses for new year.

It was something like this:
~ CLIP BOX
~ CLIP BOX ~limited sth~
~ COUNTDOWN
~ COUNTDOWN ~blablah~
~ Special edition Ayu Trance Vinyl (4 tracks only) limited only like 1k copies
~ Special edition Ayu Nonstop Mega Mix DVD 169 (OMG i remember the exact amount of songs) songs in one
and in the end was something like
~ [I] (japanese font] [japanese font]

and we speculated that "I" was the album title, cause nobody new what was that.

I always have this dreams before realese...

to be honest, I liked the "I" title.

I didn't mean informal... I don't know how to explain it without sounding mean. I guess the best way I can put it is... her English sounds a bit dated, the things she says are correct in English... but nobody actually says them.

Who would use the phrase party queen?

Mh, here in Germany young people actually use the phrase party queen. So we would say jocular "Du bist auch so ne kleine Party Queen, ne?;)" - I couldn't really translate it that good, 'cause it's more in everyday language but actually it means something like "You're a little party queen".
Just now I ask a few friends if they find it strange when someone says "Party Queen" and no one finds it strange.^^

STEP you or Humming 7/4 are these songs that english makes it singalong and more fun.

This!

pepper 2nd January 2012 11:15 PM

and about Party queen title itself - i don't know what people see strange about that frase... It's just a phrase like, I dunno, green apple? Very common...

emi♡ 2nd January 2012 11:20 PM

I didn't even think Party Queen was an expression at all :shrug

People just add "queen" to anything they want.

It's super cheesy though :laugh But Japan is pretty cheesy tbh.

ayuuk 3rd January 2012 12:22 AM

I don't like the way she pronounces "party" in that song tbh. Haha maybe it's just me.

truehappiness 3rd January 2012 12:24 AM

I think she's trying to say it in a very Western way, but it does kinda sound like "bardy/body" queen imo.

Better than being パーティークィーン. PAAAATIIIQWIIN.

pepper 3rd January 2012 01:27 AM

yeah, it definitely sound like "Body queeeeeeen!" ;D

ストロボ・EdGE 3rd January 2012 01:31 AM

Yeah it's cheesy, but in the end the English song titles are more a focus for Western fans. To Japanese fans, it's just random words that they may or may not know. "Party" and "queen" are both loan words in Japanese but I'm sure they could care less of any implications since it's all just English in the end. :shrug

The only wasei-eigo Ayu song I can think of is Virgin Road, but there might be more.

Heard the Party Queen live and not impressed. Such a boring composition compared to her past electronic songs, it sounds like a Lady Gaga leftover or something. It couldn't sound any less Ayu.

At least with her past electronic songs, they have always sounded like Ayu. Something unique and amazing. This is trying too hard to sound like a western pop song, and it fails on that front.

Not even comparable to Last angel or Sparkle. I really hope Timmy hasn't composed a lot of songs on the album after hearing this. Seems like BRILLANTE was a fluke.

truehappiness 3rd January 2012 01:45 AM

I think it's a bit of a mix between Beautiful Fighters (cuteness + English) and Sparkle (in genre only, really). It really doesn't make me think of a Western pop song at all, to be honest. Maybe it'll just take some getting used to it since it's been a loooong while since we've had a song like this?

Also, パーティークィーン/PARTY QUEEN is a brand of plastic food/food related miniatures in Japan, lol.

You not liking it is ok and I can completely understand, but calling it generic(at least that's what I read out of the Gaga comparison and the "not unique") is a flat out lie. The mix of disco, chiptune and dubstep(and IMO something very Ayu, too) in Party Queen, to my knowledge, has not been done in mainstream music before. Last Angel, while an incredible and quite unique song, was more generic for it combined two elements often combined, Trance/Dancepop and orchestral backings.
How beautiful you are is the generic one out of the songs premiered, though it's not something typical for Ayumi with it's very western melody.

tenshi no hane 3rd January 2012 09:38 AM

I like Party Queen's instrumental, but her singing not so much. Maybe I'll like the studio version better.

Anyhow, I thought I'd share my translation of 'how beautiful you are':
Spoiler:
how beautiful you are

Thank you for today
Your smile saved me

Thank you for today
You were there for me

And seeing you cry in sympathy for me
Made me shed tears again as well

I hope the feelings I feel from our linked hands
Will forever stay here

You don’t know, you don’t know how beautiful you are
More than you know

You don’t know, you don’t know how beautiful you are
You are always beautiful

Thank you for today
I learned from your tears

Thank you for today
You helped me to survive

And seeing you continue to move forward
Encouraged me

I hope a soft and gentle breeze will
Embrace us, please

You don’t know, you don’t know how beautiful you are
More than you know

You don’t know, you don’t know how beautiful you are
You have become gentle and strong

You don’t know, you don’t know how beautiful you are

You don’t know, you don’t know how beautiful you are
You are always beautiful

emi♡ 3rd January 2012 09:44 AM

tbh, Party Queen reminded me of Gaga too...but not really Gaga herself, more like, her anthems and tributes to Madonna and the 90s.

The composition is very...um, there's a type of song that I can't think of...but it's very much like those songs :laugh Even the arrangement reminds me of those songs, but I can't think of what they are exactly, so oh well.

I'm happy for the song, but it's not something I'll be listening to.

Do you really think 'Party Queen' sounds like a Lady Gaga song? Or are you just naming the first artist you can think of that does "electropop" music? 'Cause this is Madonna "Confessions" era/Kylie Minogue, if anything.

And I think it sounds very Ayu. I don't get how this song is any different from Lady Dynamite, Ladies Night, EnergizE which have similar retro-pop melodies that can easily fit to English lyrics...

PoetGirl 3rd January 2012 12:17 PM

thank you tenshi, such a wonderful and simple lyrics
