I disagree; apart from her fans, most parts of the public will only find out about the single, when the Olympic games are running through the tie-in in television. That's actually why the tie-in for such a big sports event is so awesome marketing wise.
I do agree though, that it will probably have some longevity because of it.
Nevertheless, that doesn't help the first week sales - a release date a week or two later would have been better imo, also for the position on the charts.

Not that it matters, sales are more than alright. It's just that they could have achieved more with another strategy and that's always a pity.

Ryusei 2nd August 2016 12:58 PM

I always find it weird when they release drama theme songs when the dramas are already almost over, especially when they're popular. Like currently suki na hito ga iru koto is airing but the theme song won't be released until episode 8. i think it's good to get the viewers thirsty for a song if they like it but 3 or 4 out of 10 episodes are more than enough. Especially since JY has already done TV promo for it and CMs are already airing which is also weird. Sorry for being OT just on the topic of marketing strategies and such.

First week sales aren't thaat important I mean kana's torisetsu only sold 25'400 in the first week but 73k in the long run. Maybe the same will happen with hero

Corvina 2nd August 2016 01:11 PM

Torisetsu was a hit with the public, that's why it sold so much in the long run (pretty much like this whole era of hers and also her new album).
We will see, if Hero can do that as well.
Good first week sales with a good position can create a hype coupled with a good tie-in, as news e.g. will talk about it.

KarenPang 2nd August 2016 01:42 PM

Baidu stated that Hero is her 46th release to get Top 10 , so I'm sure Oricon will talk about it

Anyway I think Hero did alright . I think more could be done especially promo wise

Namie should go on TV to promote the single but everyone know she will not do it :x

Next_Level29 2nd August 2016 04:56 PM

ehy shocked, 29K is allright for a soloist

SunshineSlayer 3rd August 2016 03:32 AM

Not bad sales, but a tough week competition wise. Also, this single will have a lot of longevity once the Olympic coverage goes into full swing.

KarenPang 3rd August 2016 03:41 AM

If I'm not mistaken , so far Hero is the 1st single released to promote this year's Olympics coverage ?

There's ARASHI also but it's surprising that they didn't chose to release the song NTV chose to use to cover the Olympics , yet

30 seconds CM spot for Hero

Yumsushi 4th August 2016 01:15 AM

Hero is alright. Show me what you got is downright awful...I got excited for one second at the beginning cause the hat reminded me of Girl talk and I thought the song would be similar but it was not even remotely in the same realm

UHPlus 4th August 2016 02:11 AM

Mint sales

week 10: 318
total: 43,002

Beauty4123 4th August 2016 03:29 AM

The full "Show Me What You've Got" PV was just adorable - absolutely adorable! :heart It's so nice to see Namie having genuine fun in a video, for a change. :D And of course - she could still look gorgeous while doing so, too. :P

Considering competition (and since the Olympics haven't started yet) I still think #6 for the week is very good for "Hero". :) I'm sure it'll continue to chart & rise in the next few weeks!

This week / week 11 : #133 ; 502
Total 11 week sales - 43,504

"Show Me What You've Got" is a sing-a-long party track that tells you to have confidence in yourself and have fun as you are. And the girls in the video surely are doing so!

That's the whole point of the song + PV , right ? :shrug

Namie is not a big physical sales, she is more digital. Like Kana Nishino.

In terms of physical sales, her singles (which is what we're talking about) haven't sold really well in quite some time.

Ryusei 8th August 2016 02:44 PM

Her single sales are still better than pretty much any other female solo act, similar to kana but a bit better most of the time

SayukiChoco 8th August 2016 08:59 PM

I actually like Show Me What You've Got. It's so fun to listen to! Hero is rather boring though.

KarenPang 9th August 2016 09:10 AM

Hero 2nd week position & sales - #19 ; 5,230

Total 2 week sales - 34,109

Why you talking to me like I dont know her

http://i.imgur.com/ejGTYPS.gif

Of course I was talking about her singles, her physical sales normally dont represent if the song is doing good or not. For example: Red Carpet was #2 on oricon but was a flop. Brighter day was #8 on Oricon but was a hit.

The olympics started and as expected, the song is becoming a hit. Is #1 in recochoku, itunes, and more digital music charts and is going up in Oricon too.

KarenPang 10th August 2016 10:11 AM

Position/sales updates for Mint

And they are playing it like mad in Japan. In the supermarkets, in elevators, in shops... I hear it at least once per day somewhere.
