Madonnarama!

As she nears 50, Madonna has a new pop album, Hard Candy, not to mention a new feature film, Filth and Wisdom, and a new documentary, I Am Because We Are. Whisked to L.A. for an intensive prep session, Rich Cohen explores the evolution of the Madonna myth as she harnesses her image-making genius to a cause, a philosophy, and the search for her true self.

Also on vanityfair.com, check out The Full Madonna, a pictorial slide show including all the covers and spreads together with a few choice quotations.

Seriously I think the greatest Madonna interview I've ever read.

Cyria 31st March 2008 07:25 PM

Wow! The photos are great. Wonderful to see her looking good again, since I haven't liked the boxer style. On to the interview...

Catzi 1st April 2008 03:18 AM

She's been looking really pale lately. I think she should use some color makeup.

Anyways, 4 minutes = really awesome.

dddaiyamondo 1st April 2008 03:27 AM

She is looking rough on her iTunes page when I went to buy 4 Minutes.

ET Madonna Elle teaser

Kaiouforever 1st April 2008 10:25 AM

She should have used some of the photo shots from the VF interview as her album cover...

4 minutes is catchy, but I am really tired of the same timbaland beat...I hear it no matter what song I turn on nowadays. =[ I hope the video will be better, because maybe it'll encourage me to like the song more.

I have to agree with you. I hate to say it, but the song doesn't deserve a download from me. I'm really not loving it, just liking it slightly. Hopefully the rest of Hard Candy's tracks will be better, but from the previews I've heard, they sound like a bunch of botched attempts at a hip-hop crossover to me.

It’s intimate, it’s outrageous: The Madonna interview

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y17..._home_main.jpg

In May’s issue of ELLE magazine our newest cover star Madonna talks intimately to Louise Gannon about her new album, family life, staying in shape and her love of Cadbury Creme Eggs…

This year Madonna turns 50, yet on the cover of this month’s ELLE magazine, out tomorrow, you would hardly believe it. In her latest interview she tells us just how she stays at the top of her game and reveals how she keeps in such incredible shape.

‘There are no short cuts to being Madonna,’ she tells us. ‘It’s all about hard work. There is no easy way. If you want to know how I look like I do, it’s diet and exercise and constantly being careful.’ She also swears by oxygen facials and never goes in the sun, drinks rarely and would like to work out for three hours a day, she reveals in a candid interview on the eve of the hotly anticipated release of her 11th album, Hard Candy.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y17...ate_it_s_o.jpg

It probably comes as no surprise that her routine is regimented and strict and that's how she gets such great results. ‘I’m not going to slow down, get off this ride, stay home and get fat!’ she declares. But isn’t it hard to be perfect all the time Madge?

‘One of the worst things about Britain is that it has such fabulous candy,’ she says and lets slip that when she’s worked particularly hard at something, like the rest of us she rewards herself with a treat. ‘I love Cadbury Fruit and Nut, Crunchies and Maltesers. But my absolute favourite is a Cadbury Creme Egg. I bite straight in to it and suck all that good stuff right out!’

It's like a ****ing Madonna tsunami. It's all hitting us at once!

Her Madgesty also graces the U.S. cover of Elle magazine this month, and in addition to this exclusive preview of the pics, we also have some juicy excerpts from the interview!

The Queen of Pop on….

Her children:
“Lola rules the roost. She is extremely maternal toward David. He is the apple of everyone’s eye right now. Lola is major competition with Rocco, but he’s starting to fight back. But when nobody’s looking, the two of them still creep into bed and cuddle.”

Her feelings on Pharrell: (“Smooth operator”), Justin Timberlake (“Gentleman”) and Timbaland (“Cheshire Cat”)–her collaborators on upcoming record Hard Candy

Hubby Guy Ritchie’s favorite hobby:
“Jujitsu. I don’t get it—grown men throwing each other around. But he loves it.”

The most shocking thing she’s ever said to get her father's attention:
“I’m not going to church anymore.”

She. still. looks. good. at. 50.

muuuuch better than the boxing-themed shoot, although these shots wouldn't really fit with the in-your-face style of the album. ok so we have the pictures and the films soon soooo where's all the music? lol

Cyria 2nd April 2008 07:07 AM

The Elle shoot looks like it'll be great. I really like that hairstyle.

4 Minutes is the #3 song this week on the Hot 100.

I believe that makes it her highest charting song since 2000's Music.

While doubtful she'll overtake Mariah for the #1 anytime soon, obviously her scheme to use JT & Timbo to garner mainstream success in the US again has worked.

And she also broke Elvis' record for most Top 10 singles with this feat.

Vinylfantasy 2nd April 2008 06:11 PM

I think she's gonna wipe the floor with Mariah once the video comes out on Friday. Touch My Body doesn't measure up to 4 Minutes and the video isn't a joke either.

I think that's being overly wishful. Maddona's jump was a huge one, almost solely due to digital sales, which will likely fall off significantly after this week. Radio has not embraced the single that much, whereas Mariah's is still gaining airplay week after week. And even with the drop of sales, Mariah's sold a significant amount more than Madonna's, so if they drop at a similar rate, MC will stay ahead.

That being said, the video for 4 minutes could sway things, but that is yet to be seen. Based upon the information we have so far, 4 minutes has probably peaked.

Vinylfantasy 2nd April 2008 06:40 PM

Hard Candy is getting way more promotion than any of the Confessions singles did in the US, except for maybe Hung Up and that peaked at #7 on the Billboard Hot 100. It's already #3 and it's her highest charting single since Music, being in the top 5 in more than 15 countries. As for radio, I agree that a lot of stations aren't embracing the single but the ones that matter are. Z100 in NY and KIIS in Los Angeles are some of the most influential radio stations in the country and 4 Minutes has been doing phenomenal on there. A lot more stations are starting to follow in their footsteps. With the video, upcoming promo tour, and the maxi single with all the remixes still due for release, we have a lot to look forward to cause she ain't going anywhere. :)

'4 Minutes' continues to make history

WARNER MUSIC CANADA PRESS RELEASE

New single has biggest one week sales for a digital track since the establishment of the Digital Tracks Sales Chart

Madonna has done it again. Nielsen SoundScan, the firm that measures actual sales of music in North America, has revealed today that “4 Minutes,” the first single from Madonna’s forthcoming album, Hard Candy, has debuted at #1 on the Digital Tracks Sales Chart with the highest one week total sales since the establishment of the chart in 2005. This follows the news a week ago that “4 Minutes” became the first single to debut at #1 on the CHR chart in the history of BDS in Canada.

“4 Minutes” was co-written by Madonna, Justin Timberlake and Timbaland. Timberlake also co-produced the track with Timbaland and performs vocals with Madonna. Hard Candy will be released in North America on Tuesday, April 29, 2008. The album features Justin Timberlake on multiple tracks and production by Pharrell Williams, Timbaland and Nate “Danja” Hills.
