^Really ? Hahahaha, in my case, I discovered alan with Hitotsu, but the song was boring for me but I thought she looked cute, so I listened to Ashita e no Sanka and the chinese version of Red Cliff and bammmm, I'm a fan. XD

I can't really listen to chinese songs because when i listen to music i focus mainly on the lyrics... As i can't understand chinese I grow bored lol. (which is actually the reason why i started learning japanese, to understand ayu's lyrics. But that is another topic)

I feel similar. Although I do listen to Chinese songs, the melodies and vocals have to be extra special because the lyrics can't pull me in (for now anyway. I'm currently studying Chinese on the side~)

Ayu's (and Hikki's) lyrics are also one of the things that pushed me to study Japanese :laugh

I actually don't like the sound of madarin (or cantonese for that matter) a lot in songs. I don't understand a lot of japanese, but I think it sounds a lot more pleasant for some reason and it' much much easier to sing along to songs in japanese if you don't know the language than it is in chinese (or korean for that matter). Of course it doesn't make it or break it if I really like a song.

I think gunjou no tani would've been a great direction for her to continue in, but my fav song is probably sakura modern. =P She never really found her niche in the japanese market it seemed.
