So the tracks aren't in chronological order anymore? I wonder why.
Someone should tweet her asking to include Fight the Blues lol

bluegie 7th October 2010 05:19 AM

^It is still in the reversal chronological order. The only exception is BW remix. I guess it serves as a bonus track? :P.

But maybe I just have a really strict view on ballads :laugh I think in the end it all comes down to opinion. If you think Sakura Drops is a ballad, then it is! :)

(Again, I'm not attacking you guys :) just my opinion on what a "ballad" is)

MY EARS DON'T HAVE ANY PROBLEM!!!! I HATE YOU :wtf
(just joking just joking hahahaaha :hi5)

That is why I put question marks on Letters and DEEP RIVER. DEEP RIVER sorta sounds like a ballad but the lyrical content is so out of that definition. Letters lyrically is a ballad, but the arrangement doesn't sound like it. It feels like she wanna be a bird, flying up high, and humming "ahh la la la". SAKURA doroppusu is a ballad to me, even tho in a traditional Japanese arrangement.

If using the really strict view ballads (arrangement and lyrical content wise), then I guess hikki ballads are: First Love, Eternally, FINAL DISTANCE, Dareka, Be My Last, and FOL -Ballad Version-. For me, Sakura should be included. :)

Hmmm. Never considered "Prisoner of Love" a ballad.

The ballads of HEART STATION (Album) have always been "Flavor of Life" & "Stay Gold" in my mind.

Concerning your comment about Utada's promotion, I don't foresee a whole lot happening besides what we already know. Hey, maybe those video shoots are taking place in New York and that's why she's there.

To be technical, a ballad is any song or poem whose lyrics depict a storyline or narrative about an event. So, to be technical, I don't think any of hikki's ballads tell the story of any events. lol

I kind of consider pol a ballad, but I think the quiet version is more ballad like.

That means everyone can stop complaining about all of Ayu's "ballads" then cause she doesn't have any.

With the more loose term, I kinda feel like so many of Hikki's songs are ballads... it's like, even with her "upbeat" songs like Hikari and Keep Tryin', I still get that darkness from her. It's kind of amazing when you think about it...

bluegie 7th October 2010 07:49 AM

hhuuh... Keep Tryin' and Hikari as ballads..? :shakehead. This is new to me... :P

I would consider POL as a ballad if the beats are not that strong.

Polyrhythm 7th October 2010 09:29 AM

^He didn't call them ballads.

My thoughts exactly. Even though they're not ballads, I still tend to throw them in the same group.

I love it, but I would from time to time like something a bit more energetic. Like This is Love (< 3), Celebrate or some of her older songs...

I think so too.

Yesterday while I was listening some songs sounded like a ballad but when I searched the lyrics it totally isn't. It's probably because most of her songs are slow to mid-tempo that's why I got a bit confused not to mention I don't exactly understand what she's singing about.

On the other side, Utada tends to tell a lot of stories on her lyrics, tons of them narrates something... so, most of her songs are ballads xD

It's like, even with a song like Keep Tryin', her voice still is sad and dark, like you'd expect with a ballad, but lively at the same time? It's weird and hard to describe, but no one else has it so I really appreciate her music for it.

JackieRos 7th October 2010 04:58 PM

I think everyone has their own definitions of a ballad.

like mine is like anything soft with soft vocals and cheesy music.
just like hmmmm Eternally (I don't hate this song nor love it).

ストロボ・EdGE 7th October 2010 05:10 PM

Yeah Eternally and Dareka are two of her more obvious ballads. With songs like COLORS and Passion is where it starts to get a little fuzzy.

Don't worry, I hate it for you xD

bluegie 7th October 2010 05:20 PM

^LOL... hate it for me as well please. It's not that bad... its history is sad because it was the only ballad after First Love.

Eternally is a let down for me (gotta be honest). Everyone was so crazy for another hikki ballad since First Love was HUGE. Well.. when I got Distance... Eternally was nothing compared to First Love. I dun mean I want it sounded like First Love, but the power and emotion level had less impact. If I didn't compare it to First Love in the first place, probly I would love it more.

The sadness in Keep Tryin'...? I guess I can sense that in the verses, but then the song is too energetic so it's hard to hear the sadness and darkness :P.

I'm sorry if I offended anyone by saying that most of her songs are ballad :O xD

No no no, we're just having fun defining ballads. Or else this thread will stop in the middle again lol :). I'm curious tho, which songs you thought they were ballads in the first place?

yeah exactly I don't consider them ballads.

bluegie 7th October 2010 05:36 PM

^Hikki sings inside your head... "I wanna be here eternally... I can see you're all I need... eien ni..." :mischief :laugh

JackieRos 7th October 2010 05:37 PM

OMG that part is exactly in my head

yeah thanks uuuuuuuuugh

koumori 7th October 2010 05:40 PM

I agree with Edge in the fact alot of her songs do have that unique, dark sound to them - maybe that's why her songs stick out so much. I always thought songs like Stay Gold, First Love and Be My Last were her obvious popular ballads, but I could be wrong. The classification between ballad and other genre songs with Utada seem to be quite blurred. :laugh
