I'm wondering how people are liking this change, and if anyone even noticed? I honestly wasn't even conscious of the fact that she'd brought the hip-hop sound to a minimum and then did away with it. I'm glad she can evolve so successfully as a pop act!

ah well you could say it had its flaws - the one you named. Uncontrolled had superb songs but was a sloppy album. Yes, it made ground for the re-direction, but it wasn't a smooth transition.

Because hip hop is one of my favorite genres and her hip hop days are what made me such a big fan, I do miss them immensely but its okay I will still find songs to like. Songs like SWEET KISSES and Show Me What You Got are clearly girl songs but they are still some of my highest played songs from her. I didn't like most of the songs from _genic but probably it was because I just wasn't ready for them yet and I really like it now. I do hope one day she makes a return to hip hop.

Ah I see what you mean. The album was definitely a bit awkward. But I still think when it came out I didn't think "she's now letting go of hip-hop!" To me, since I didn't even notice she was changing her sound, it was a seamless transition. But I definitely see your point.

I actually haven't taken time to listen to her old stuff recently! I've been trying so hard to get into everything after BRIGHTER DAY. I think taking some time to listen to her old stuff might make me appreciate her new stuff.

I absolutely loved Uncontrolled and FEEL, so _genic let me down a bit since I wasn't too fond of it. I'm not sure if I want her to go back to hip-hop or still experiment with electro-pop/EDM. I definitely welcome any hip-hop music, but I'm curious to see what else Namie and her team have in store.

I miss it, but I also like some of her more pop stuff. And her early career was more pop, with a hinge of R&B (but that kind of was the 90s anyway). I think of her albums, PLAY or PAST<FUTURE had the best overall balance for me in terms of pop and hip-pop (even as she called it -- it wasn't pure hip-hop, and it wasn't pure pop...it was a blend!).

I loved FEEL, but have been less enthusiastic _genic and subsequent singles which are just so devoid of personality to me. Everything is just over-produced now, and could literally be any club girl singing on them. I also wish she'd use more Japanese, though _genic does beat FEEL in that way.

Most of all, I just miss something with more attitude/edge. I feel like the gritty aspect of her music has been pretty lost. It has in her image, as well, with her having tattoos removed, etc.

Excluded just one sentence cause this pretty much sums up how I feel about her music :yes

Hi guys. Planning on seeing Namie on one of her dates in Kobe either in October or December. Just wondering how I would go about getting tickets? Does Namie have a fan club lottery like TA? Grateful for any information :)

Interesting setlist, it doesn't seem as mismatched as the last two tours. I'm kind of glad to see something other than fight together for the closing song. I was hoping for Wild or Do Me More but pretty good overall!
