I won't leave the forum; I still love Ayumi. I listen to her more than any other artist. She's my "go-to" whenever I don't have anything current I am craving to listen to. I just miss that feeling, ... you know? I was in a ballad mood while on an hour drive last night and while listening to "Who..." I started crying (replaying memories of when I saw her AT08). Everyone grows older, but I really don't remember how it felt before I discovered Ayumi and I'm afraid of not having those songs that give me that feeling once again... My comment was harsh, but this is the first time I have to admit that her career just keeps going down when I thought it would have stabilized with Love songs. I love her and wish her the best, but I like to be honest with myself when it comes to if I am happy with the direction an artist is taking. I will never have more passion toward any other artist as I do for Ayu, but that does not mean I am afraid to speak my mind and really dissect the product.

On top of that, avex will not keep allowing her the funds needed to make an epic album/product when she doesn't bring in the dough. Even when her sales were "falling" and there was that blog post Ayu and Max wrote about the conversation they had laughing at the fact people have said Ayu was "washed ou~t", they went and through so much money into the fairyland PV. It used to all be "we spent XXX,XXX amount on this PV!!" I mean, you can clearly hear it in her arrangements, the final mastering of the songs that they are not as top-notch anymore. They are not as clean or precise. So we can't really expect something spectacular when avex will not allow the funds for a higher quality product in the future... and if the quality doesn't improve, her career will only continue to slide (sadly). That is what I meant by my comment.

Kumi is the underdog and she's just happy to see her outsell Ayu again (so far, anyway) by a minuscule amount of copies.

I don't think Kumi is an underdog. Compared to the newer generation of females she's held on better than BoA, Mika Nakashima, etc. Anyways I hope this doesn't start an argument. I hate Kumi/Ayu fights. Very annoying since so many people love both. :(

If Ayu EVER left Avex (which I doubt, unless Max killed her puppies or something), would another label take her?

She's demanding, wouldn't give any decisions to the label... and what about that time she overstayed her hotel stay in LA? Didn't get a quote from somebody inside basically saying "Avex were not happy, it's just because it's Ayu..." etc... I'd love for there to be a tell all about Ayu and Avex, I bet there are some really juicy secrets.

I imagine she'd just set up her own label or something. I wonder if she would take other artists under her wing~

They would be stupid not to IMO. Even if she doesn't get #1 with this album she is still practically selling this album on her name alone. Other labels would clearly be able to see this and realise that with proper promotion she would be able to earn them a lot of money. Then Avex would feel dumb!


I really hope my copy arrives this week... getting impatient! I want to see if it's as good/bad as people claim.

Which is why I think she should start her own label! She can sign urata and Juno (barf) and maybe even Timmy and he could release a debut single. I think it's brilliant. Then she really will have complete control over everything, including promotion. #winning

Thats the way it's always been. New releases normally get 6 days of sales for their first week while Party Queen gets an extra day (7). It's just the way it works. :)

I agree with this. Few days ago I kept listening to LOVEppears and Duty and I kept crying because of pure nostalgy. Those songs make my heart bleed in a good way. She hasn't done songs like that nowadays, but I still love her, because she has had a HUGE impact on me.. I don't think her career is over, but her era has been over for years and now she's in a point that she does what she wants. I don't want another I am..., I am happy if she just continues making music. Idk, I don't care if people will call me foolish for being "nostalgic" or liking "old ayu" more, I don't care. I love her, no matter happens I still continue following her, and I will say my honest opinion if I don't like something, but as for PQ, I like that album, seriously. It's just few songs I don't like..

Duty and LOVEppears feel nostalgic to me also. Every day I listen to these songs ... for me though, I feel like in a few years time, her newer material will give me the same feeling...

She would have to hire new composers then, right? Her composers and arrangers are contracted by Avex, I think. This might force her to compose again. That would be a real treat for us.
