When I heard it yesterday I thought she was pulling a Rebecca Black on us by going;

Friday nite <Japanese language> comes after thursday

etc. I still find it kinda tacky and awkward though, especially how she pronounces the English words (and how they wrote "night" as "nite"). It sounds so forced. I wonder if Timmy helped her pronunciation. :/ Though her vocals still sound superb nevertheless. :)

I don't mind the English much since honestly ayu's english usually just doesn't sound the best in her songs since she started using it in RAINBOW. So I think I'm good with the awkward sound.

totally agree.... sounded very dated, even with all the arrangements. It feels something is wrong with this song, they should edit and do away all her vibratos at the end of the phrases. I love trance but the trance in this song is terrible.

Considering how most of Ayu's material from the past 3 years has been pretty much repetitive and forgetable, this track is at least catchy enough to stuck in an average listener's head and stay there for a while, which is exactly what they're aiming for before releasing a 'best' album. Sounds indeed like signature TK arrangement, the lyrics are simple and catchy, accurate for summer, vanilla kind of pop.

It's not a WOW song but it's not TERRIBLE either. It's catchy. Sounds good. No complaints

I don't like the song (music) - it's too western, it's very popular trance in US (Rihanna much)doesn't fit for her vocal and I just don't like that music. It reminds me of "We found love" which I like when they play the song on the club or sth, but I don't listen to that music at home. Without the "western music" it may be just another Glitter/BLUE BIRD song which I never was fan of tbh. I started to like them after very long time from realese. AND I HATE THE english parts. She just can't sound nothing but FUNNY. She sound ridicolous when she sings in english but it sound cute when the song fits (ESM) or the lyrics are easy (Tell me why) But she can't say "friday" without making me facepalming, I'm sorry ;_;
The song itself could be just "an another ok medium bubblegum song" but the "rihanna-music-like" ruins for me. I hope she will never-ever do that song again, but I'm very afraid she wants to be more western. I don't like the direction she is going to, but she never was a "one-type" musician, so I hope for more "JAPANESE" than "AMERICAN" music.

I like her look in the video, she looks nothing but natural, but she is gorgeous in it, especially with long wet hair, she looks definitely amazing. But I don't like cheesy beach love story PV's :P

This song now makes me view A Song for XX (album) as a masterpiece. Oh, that felt good.
You & Me is a good song, but Ayu can do WAY better. Honestly, after thinking about it, the song is just bleah. The lyrics are nothing compared to some of the lyrics on A Song for XX album (seriously, who WOULD buy that album other than for the lyrics? I tell myself that, when I understand the lyrics, I will fall in love with the album). Kinda makes me sad, actually.

I initially viewed this song in a high regard, and that was because I was high on electro/techno/dance/disco crap. Now, I'm slowly moving back to Ayu and her angsty ways (which I love). It's all Angela Aki's fault. Ever since I listened to her new album, I've gone back to a more organic sound. Now looking at You & Me, it's really generic and nothing new. Now, I DO like songs that aren't exactly bringing anything new to the table AND I love old-sounding music (I'm a Tommy february6 fan and don't say her music doesn't sound like it comes from the 80s-90s). But this song kind of sounds like a dated reject that nobody loved.

At this point in my life, I would say I am a genuine fan of Ayu. I was pumped for Party Queen and I was fanboying all over this song when it first came out. But this song just makes her look awful imo. That, and the covers. What happened to Ayu? Her lyrics (as shown in this song) sounds like she wrote them on the toilet! And that one verse... Oh god, why? The entirety of the lyrics sound like fairyland and BLUE BIRD had a reject baby or something. I'm not criticizing because I hate Ayu or something. I'm criticizing because I KNOW for a fact that she can make better. The masterpiece that is Memorial Address just side-eyes this release. Heck, almost every Ayu release (save for FIVE) side-eyes this. I even like the MOON covers more than the covers for A SUMMER BEST, and I despise the MOON covers. Even the (miss)understood CD only cover is laughing at the A SUMMER BEST covers.

I also like Tetsuya Komuro's music. Not a huge fan, but I like it. Songs like White Key (ami suzuki) and Namie's debut album are really nice. The majority of his compositions from Love songs are just amazing. I loved how Love songs sounded dated. It wasn't a bad thing and it worked in its favour. But this song... I don't even know what to say.

Just because you CAN, DOES NOT mean you SHOULD. Ayu, from someone who really loves your music and listens to it A LOT, you NEED to take a year off and listen to I am..., RAINBOW, Memorial Address, MY STORY, Secret, and even Loveppears over and over again. Those albums are infinitely better than Party Queen (as much as I like it) and this song. No matter how bumpy the road, I'll stay with you. But it doesn't mean I won't constructively criticize your work. I hope that Tales of Xillia song is good... Fast guitars remind me of evolution:)

When you say that you view A Song for XX as masterpiece, I know that you actually hate the song :P. I agree with you I hope she delivers an epic track for ToX. I NEED evolution part 2, M part 2 or just a baby from those two.

Anyway, as much as people say that, I personally don't think anyone can know for sure that ayu can do better. Especially since "better" is just what appeals to one's subjective taste and what not. But that's also okay to me since people get over disappointment.

And idk how the lyrics make an album worth buying. "Music" can be wonderful without good lyrics but good lyrics don't make good music imo. For me, good lyrics are something extra and very very nice. For me, music is one thing. Poetry and lyrics and such is another. Interesting how you feel that way about ASFXX though. Sorry if I overanalyzed what you said lol. I understand why people say they want [any song title] episode 2, but really, I don't want evolution 2 -though I've alwayshoped for a title like RE-volution or something like that ahahaha- because that song is perfect like that,but as a consequence has already been done ! To be honest, I am not a huge fan of lyrics (except Ayu's). I just listen to the melody more than 90% of the time. With songs like HEAVEN and HANABI, they make me teary eyed because of the lyrics and melody. This song's lyrics (You & Me), I find them awful. In that case, I can't even listen to the song. The melody also has gotten to me... My friend and I argued about lyrics and their importance. He said he needs them, I said I don't. Whenever I listen to Japanese music, half the time I will never know the lyrics unless I look them up or I listen VERY carefully. Most of the time, I don't even care. Therefore, lyrics have no huge meaning for me (except as stated before). It's my fault for looking up the lyrics to this song. Upon seeing the translation and that awful verse, I just couldn't. Lyrics are also extra to me (except in extreme cases like HEAVEN and HANABI). Even the song feel the beat by Ami Suzuki is alright. She repeats the same line over and over like its out of style but its alright with me. All I can do now is huff and cling to Memorial Address like there's no tomorrow.

As for ASFXX, I'm not a big fan because Ayu just sounds like a dying shrew/hyena/cow/insert random animal here. 1.4 million people bought it anyway XD. I may... one day. I would rather buy a new copy, if anything. There are better sounding debut albums. But I know for a fact that they made the fact that Ayu wrote the lyrics a big deal. Many Japanese people still love A Song for XX (song) because it's so relatable. (personally, I listen to the A BALLADS version. the arrangement and Ayu's voice are tolerable). I only like the song Poker Face, but I've moved on from that song since I've discovered her entire discography.

1st because I don't like artists that keep repeting themselves and re-releasing the "same" album over and over again. If she has 5 songs like M, M is not a special song anymore... It's like some of her generic ballads... what makes them (and anything) generic is the fact it was done over and over again... The most reused of ideas was creative once.

2nd because everytime Ayu actually repeats herself, a huge shitstorm happens here on the forum.

In regards to ASFXX I don't mind the voice as I've always found ayu's voice a bit strange and more difficult to listen to. Especially from ASFXX to I am... (For me)....it's funny though. Poker face is one of the ones that I don't care for as much lol. I love the A BALLADS version of ASFXX :heart but this is more ot lol sorry

I didn't really think about that but you're right. I kinda want something epic and I used "evolution part 2" to define epic lol. But on the other hand, those songs are so dated that if she just did one "version / part 2" of any song, we'd get a confirmation that she's still able to deliver the same sparkle. (I think her voice is perfect as of now, but the composition, arrangement and everything else is lacking, therefore not justifying ayu's singing imo). Though like you said, it'd make it generic. So there is no win for part 2's at all.

Actually I don't really care a lot for what a lot of people on this forum have to say about ayu's releases because; When she does the same (like you said) a huge shitstorm (I like how this word doesn't get hidden) happens, and when she does something new it's the same story. Though I have to admit that I participated the shitstorm when I heard Eyes, Smoke, Magic and the next LOVE.

Music and vocals are important to me, good lyrics are just a plus.
Bad lyrics can destroy a song, but they have to be really bad to get me to this point. On the other hand good lyrics can't save a bad song for me.
Normally with Ayu the songs I love have both - and the songs I dislike are missing both for me. :laugh

Her singles from 2010 all have over 1 million views (MOON almost 2 million, Virgin Road and crossroad) I think that Youtube is a great way to promote her new releases, specially singles.

Since this is just one song too it's getting all the attention it deserves, which is awesome. 400k and counting, great numbers for 1 week I think. Keep on watching it! ^^

I think that case is rather different, since Korea essentially forces their videos on fans as much as possible and they also tend to be posted in 1080p among other factors. (she's also been on a bit of a hiatus)

It tends to be a bit slower for Japanese acts to get views unless you're AKB or Kyary Pamyu Pamyu.

^Hello, BRILLANTE? That's like a masterpiece in the form of "no man can do this." I agree with you PQ era, but during FIVE even the covers are godly (although only two songs from that album can do justice to a no-single year).

Brillante was a nice song, but by no means do I consider it a master piece, I didn't really care for the chorus and the verse sounded off to me melodically in some parts.

AVEX is just starting to realize the power of Youtube, in ayu's case anyway. Still, not uploading the entire thing isn't gonna help. They'll never get as many views as the Kpop groups, plus, we get DVDs with our Japanese releases, and most Kpop releases don't come with the pvs or mvs.
