^Umm... Maxi means the 12cm CDs / normal sized ones. So 'appears' is a maxi cd single.

as for the obis, i dont see the point in them really besides they take up dust. And sorry, i dont have the appears obi, although i would sell it to you :laugh. Can someone tell my why the obis are so important?

It's just a collectors item, not much meaning I guess...

I for example don't even open my CDs unless they contain a DVD and I keep them with obis, stickers from the plastic foil, etc, etc...

i like to keep things too, so i do try keep the obis and everything else, i just put them inside the CD cover. i don't keep receipts or plastic bags or specs of dust from where i bought them though.

It's got the tracklist on it. On most of the singles anyway, and selected albums.

indeed the obis are important cos of the tracklist!
seriously i think the reason why daybreak failed so badly is that the obi doesnt have the tracklist on it, so people dont know what is in the disc

wouldnt the tracklisting be inside the cover? Thats how all of my cds are...

Daybreak didn't fail badly...it was a 300,000 copies initial press only single. It did have a nice translucent OBI with an Ayu-pan on it afterall.

Well, you'd have to pull out the cover, then open it to read the tracklist for the singles, which is fairly troublesome. And the sides of the jewel case just looks tacky blank when you store the CDs in a CD Tower, you wouldn't known which CD is which.

Obi is part of the album, just like the cover booklet if you put it that way, with colour printing and fancy fonts. Because usually you don't have a place for them once you opened the wrap, you might think it's unnecessary and throw it away, but if you are a collector of ayu stuff, you probably want to keep them. It's also easier to identify if your cd is OS or Japanese version by looking at the Obi. Haha, watch those eBay's auction, they always mention obi if they have them coz people are more willing to pay.

It's annoying how you have to take the CD case out of the plastic bag to see the tracklist on Daybreak though.

God I will post more after Christmas. I have a few cds as presents to m y self. soo

it did fail badly.

daybreak translucent obi was a 300,000 limited version, but there was supposed to be another version with a paper obi to come out after the initial 300k was sold out. and since daybreak didnt even make 200,000 in sales, the paper obi version never same. hence it did fail badly.

and i think i read it from hamasaki republic, if i am not mistaken.

And you expect an album-cut single to sell how many copies to be considered not a failure? Hamasaki Republic's sales figures are very dated by the way and as you can see they've stopped updating the units sold since Daybreak, it doesn't look like the finalised figure to me.

Even if 194,610 was it's final sales, if that's a failure, a very large percentage of Japanese singles are also failures.

And if you check Oricon, you'll see that Hamasaki Republic's stats are incomplete. I am... was on the charts for 27 weeks and it was only listed as 18 on HR, Daybreak for 9 and listed for 8 on HR, et cetera.

Oh, you are all soo lucky :) I can't buy any j-pop cd here. People in Czech republic knows what it is, but if I say "Ayumi Hamasaki?" they answer "Eh?" Only our czech Final Fantasy community knows her. :) And my family too, lol. Whatever from e-bay is also impossible, because our bank wants lot of money per transfer. :(

I happen to have this little alcove built beside my bed, so I thought I might as well use it.

Yeah, that was me 10 years ago. Taken on 21st December 1994, at some butterfly garden. I was there with my parents, and then some butterfly just flew in from the outdoor garden and landed on my finger. For some reason literally EVERYONE there was taking pictures of me or something. >_<

when you compare the singles from i am album, m and evolution sold over 1 million each. dearest, the single before daybreak, sold over 800000. then a few months later, daybreak comes along and sold less than 200000. then the single after, free & easym sold over halk a million. so how can daybreak not be classified a failure?

Daybreak is an album-cut single. If low sales relative to other singles released around it's time is your reasoning to calling it a failure, then call all her other album-cut singles failures. The preluding and following single after the previous album-cuts have all sold large sums.

And where is that figure of 'Free & Easy' from? If you have access to sales figure of something more recent, please provide at least an up-to-date sales figure of Daybreak to back up your argument. One minute you decide to quote your stats from Hamasaki Republic, the next you take it your stats from elsewhere with higher values for other releases.

Call it a failure if you want, but it's perceptions like these where tabilod articles like "Hamasaki falls", "Hamasaki looses popularity", "Hamasaki drops crown to BoA" sprouts from when her sales are still relatively high to other artists.

An album cut single is a single released after an album has been released am I correct? If so...Daybreak's sales cannot be compared to those of all the singles on I am...?

kanariya, fly high, appears and audience are limited to 300,000 copies. hence it only sold as much as there are enough copies available. but daybreak hasnt even reached 300,000. so your argument cant even stand.

i dont see why you are getting so mad. you have to be rational and stop protecting ayu all the time.

ok, ovbiously you two ARENT gonna see each others' way, so can we say the sales of Daybreak, whether they did good or bad, is an opinion? Even though compared to other singles its lower, to some people selling over 100,000 copies is still a feat in itself.

It is a remix single after all, so that would have naturally prevented it from selling much. And given it's a remix of an album cut, it would naturally sell low - defining whether it's a success or a failure would depend on what you originally expected of it, I guess.

m-a-z-e: Yes. Technically, it can't be compared, because it's a remix of lower quality than the original version, and it's just a cheap way for Avex to make more money off Ayu's name.
