The anime tie-in is officially announced now.
http://rhythmzone.net/koda/news/detail.php?id=1062969 http://bclover.jp/music/ The mobile phone game hasn't a release date yet, but it is confirmed for 2018 as well as Kuu's tie-in with it. Kuu also made social media posts about it with a look from one of her new PVs. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/6...924/0mVyMD.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/6...921/g3F3kJ.jpg It is interesting, that Haircut and Watch Out are getting the PVs and not the song with the big tie-in. Guess that's because the two songs fit to the album concept and Guess Who Is Back doesn't. Kuu describes Guess Who Is Back in a comment on her Insta post as a "call and response"-song, a powerful song. She wants everyone to yell "Hey guess who is back!!!" with it. |
It's surreal for Kuu to provide a song for an anime as the last time she did so was 2012 :O
Hopefully Guess Who Is Back will be good and that goes for the rest of DNA , of course .ts file of Kuu's performance at last Wed's Tere to Ongakusai 2018 https://i.imgur.com/izXQF3a.jpg http://www.mexashare.com/ifs9prvau54...018.06.27).rar Password is jpfiles https://jpfiles.eu/japanese/japanese...d2018-2018-06/ If anyone wants a downsized / converted .mp4 version of Kuu's performance , please let me know . I can send it via PM That goes for other performances in Tere to Ongakusai 2018 which I'm currently downsizing the entire show & I have to do it overnight cos the show is over 5 hours long so :dead2 |
Chuffed Kumi has a good tie-in!
|
I went to the Koda Kumi night last Sunday.
It was fun but I'm fucking pissed they never played Driving! I even made this post about it on twitter to the event page how I was so looking forward to hearing that track, given it is my most favorite of jpop. I wrote how on New Year's Eve of 2009, I had been checking online incessantly waiting to hear glimpses of the coming album TRICK while spending the night partying at a friends house. A rip of Driving was uploaded and immediately I fell in love. I hooked up my iPod to their desktop computer, transferred the song to my iPod, and spent the entire night dancing to it in the garage. We had a set of glowsticks and one of them broke while I was dancing and the glow liquid ended up spraying all over the garage floor and walls. It was as if I was dancing atop the stars. To this day it is still my most favorite New Year's - I've never welcomed one better. Even so, I guess the highlight was when they played D.D.D. followed by Get Up & Move!!. I was so tired from D.D.D. but then Get Up & Move!! immediately started and I had find the strength in me to keep going. I was at the front of the club and everyone was basically gathered around me, lol. I fucked up my legs dancing too much though, just like I did at Ayu night. This time my calf of my right leg and the ankle on that side are sore, but my knee on my left is pretty damaged, lol. I think I tore my meniscus or something. |

I wonder if the song for the game is another one from DNA, in which it wasn't announced yet. I mean, she was at the studio a couple of days ago, even tho the record time for the album was basically done, and it still has almost two months to the release.
|
^those must have been the 2 announced unrecorded songs. Guess we'll find out their titles soon enough.
|

She says so in the comment on the official site and also says, that she thinks it stands in sharp contrast to the Black Clover opening song. |

Early FC previews for 3 songs - WATCH OUT!! ~DNA~, Haircut and CHANCES ALL - are out!
WATCH OUT is a grungy Hip Hop song, at least in the chorus. CHANCES ALL is a poppy R&B number, which will probably be loved by all of you. |
Quote:
|
I can't link them, cause they're FC exclusive previews.
But I've ripped them... WATCH OUT!! ~DNA~ http://www.mediafire.com/file/xao8k8...UT_preview.mp3 HAIRCUT http://www.mediafire.com/file/7ce9n9...UT_preview.mp3 CHANCES ALL http://www.mediafire.com/file/yvcp8y...LL_preview.mp3 |
Didn't find them in Global Koda Gumi and I can't DL from mediafire at work omg ):
|
Omg, guys, she's currently recording for DNA again with a cello and strings!
And drums and a guitar player! Big yes to live instruments! https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/8...922/RL9SJI.png Her caption says " It might be a masterpiece". Doesn't happen often, that Kuu is speaking like that of her own music. She really seems to work even harder than usual for this album. |
Quote:
|
So, got to hear it. HAIRCUT bring nothings new from the previews in AND - I still love it, glad it's getting a PV! WATCH OUT sounds a bit messy but cool, I guess the whole thing will work pretty well. CHANCES ALL sounds nothing spectacular but not bad as well.
And I'm really excited by all these instruments on the studio, gurl is really coming for our wigs this summer (btw this is first time Kuu releases a studio album not during winter in AGES omg) |
WATCH OUT <33
But CHANCES ALL... sounded like a song from any new american teen pop singer. :x |
Quote:
|
Thank you Corvina. I don't like WATCH OUT :S
|
Thanks, Corvina. I love WATCH OUT. CHANCES ALL sounds like Slow meets Okay, it sounds cool but not nearly as badass as WATCH OUT.
|
Damn i dont like any of the previews lol
I just dont get where her music is going after HOTEL. The whole street music vibe whatnot... |
|
He is in the studio with her, cause he "produced" his own Megumi no Hito Tik Tok video, lol.
http://v16.tiktokv.com/R5mYS/ |
Quote:
|
That was cute :laugh But it's so weird seeing Megumi no Hito suddenly become relevant haha
|
The previews are also out on her website, not just for the FC http://rhythmzone.net/koda/dna/
Megumi no Hito is at number 7 on line.me and 40 on recochoku. Yesterday it was at number 48 iirc... It's getting bigger. haha Look at her having another hit out of nowhere. |
kinot just pointed out that they changed "Dominate" for "Dangerous" in the tracklist, wonder if that's a new song or just a new title for the same track
|
Ok, this is too hilarious not to share!
Yu Yashiro is singing Pikotaro's Pineapple song as three different female solos. First is Kuu, last is (the current) Ayu. It's spot on! :laugh https://www.instagram.com/p/Bk5JmosH...=1a141rw918bbv |
That was pretty funny!
Though I have to say - Ayu actually DID sing that during the MC of her TA '16 tour, and she used her cutesy voice, not her super vibrato. LOL. |
I would say that is 2008 Ayu tbh
|
That hilarious :laugh She really captured their uniqueness :laugh
|
Kuu with Fairies backstage of NTV studio
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DhecwT2V...jpg&name=small https://twitter.com/fairies_me/statu...52601481981953 NTV's THE MUSIC DAY 2018 ~Tsuta Etai Uta~ is currently ongoing |
Wait is Megumi no Hito so popular again?
|
Kuu performed Ai no Uta at The Music Day and is going to do WON'T BE LONG at 5:45 pm Japanese.
EDIT: Japanese fans, who recorded the performances from their TV in pretty nice quality, till we get some rips: Ai no Uta https://www.facebook.com/10000298428...3243553118439/ WON'T BE LONG https://www.facebook.com/kumikouda.m...3593787257717/ |
|
LOOOVE the pants. Gorgeous.
Both performances in HD |
These pants are a disaster. They look like badly sewn curtains lol
|
The pants are nothing that I would wear but I love how it looks in her. Well I actually like the whole outfit, she really rocks it
|
I can't believe some app where you film yourself dancing has made the koddess popular with the public again... i love 2018
|
Quote:
|
Love this new look, it suites her so well. Who’s bro Korn?
|
Theyre the original performers of WON'T BE LONG :)

In the Chances All preview, is she not clearly saying "Chances Are"? |
I would say my biggest complaint is what she’s doing with her voice lately. Listening to her newest albums since her return from maternity leave, she sometimes just flat out makes her voice sound ugly. I never used to think that, so it’s unfortunate that i do now.
|
Quote:
I kind of expected something more... tighter after AND and WOML. She's been working on this album for an entire year, right? Why does it sound like songs that didn't make WOML or AND, and not an album with a year's worth of work put into it? Really, these covers blow me away. But it's like getting a prepaid iPhone SE in an iPhone 8 Plus box. It looks like one hell of an album, but the previews aren't even meeting my low excitement for Ultraviolet. |
Quote:
How do you hear something of "a year's worth"? A pity you and some others don't like her changing style. But can't help it. Without having the official lyrics it's probably to no avail, but I also hear "Chances are" in the song. Tho you can't even rely on official lyris nowadays, rofl. Anyway, I don't see a problem with her singing that and calling the song with a different title if it fits the lyrics. Does she have to sing the title somehwere in the lyrics for you? ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Kuu just posted another old look she's revisiting for her new PVs. This time it's Ima sugu hoshii. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/8...924/yHuiWE.jpg The new season of Black Clover is starting later today! |
Fierce and beautiful, yes.
|
Guess Who Is Back opening:
https://twitter.com/AnimeTV2018/stat...19293734309890 The song is written by BACK-ON! |
It’s possible that in Chances All, there’s a switch in the lyrics. Like, after singing chances are, towards the end of the song she starts singing chances all—like, “chances are” representing a negative outcome, and “chances all” representing a positive one. Incorrect English, but...that wouldn’t be the first time lol.
|
Quote:
And wouldn't surprise me as well, as the letter L doesn't exist in Japanese and R is a mix between those two letters - so "chances are" and "chances all" probably sound a lot alike for Japanese people, even though it's incorrect. |
That look with the short wig scalped my own
|
I expected Guess Who is Back to be R&B style but not. Is acceptable.
|
Nice to see a good reception for the song (from the anime's page on Reddit and twitter), I'm always afraid for anime songs when it's not your typically "anime song singer", and the song is pretty good, just as I expecting judging by the others OP for the series.
Btw both THE MUSIC DAY performances are up on JPS. |
Just listenned to it, I really like it! I was expecting a happy-rock song but this is really great and fresh! :D
|
Quote:
Shit I actually think misono would sound better on this track. |
Quote:
Reception from the anime fans is also great. |
Quote:
But then I listened to the clip and you're spot-fucking-on. JFC my ears are about to start bleeding |
Quote:
All jokes aside, her vocals have gotten deeper and now she’s got a noticeable vibrato. |
I LOVE the song wtf. I wasn't expecting that. also I think she sounds fine and just like herself?
|
I guess none of you follow misono on Instagram, cause then you would know what she actually sounds like.
Also, y'all can bitch and complain all you want about Kuu's current music style, from her vocals to the types of songs she makes, but to me THEY ARE EPIC. Its the kind of music I live for. Totally my aesthetic. Interesting and different. More importantly, just like Ayu, she's doing what makes her happy. |
Apart from the obviously distorted vocals I don't see what's so terrible about it as well o_o I can understand when people don't like her voice in songs like OUTTA MY HEAD but this one is pretty fine to me.
|
Quote:
|
The first distorted part after the intro is an effect I often hear in (Death) Metal. I've just waited for her to end that part with some screamo. :laugh
Quote:
Welcome back, I guess. :laugh |
I don't usually like to "spoil" myself for an album by listening to songs ahead of the release, but as this is Kumi's first tie-in in years I had to check it out. I'm loving it from what I've heard! Potential to be one of the best songs on DNA?
|
No point in trying to prove something to trolls & haters. They are the same ppl who were unhappy with Kumi's music for the last 8-10 years and will never be, they worship every fart their favourite artist makes and come here to shit in KK thread. Sad.
Quote:
|
after reading all the comments I was expecting a bad song as well haha but no, it actually is pretty good and I can't hear whats wrong with her voice lol I guess its suits the style. although I was like "oh no, here she comes with rap even though this is a rockfish song" but it only lasted a few lines haha but really stop the rap, Kumi T^T
|
I can't stand rap in all the last songs... Just stop it!
|
gosh I'm so in love with that opening. it made me want to watch the anime. and the song sounds epic.

That’s one thing I’m actually really proud of. I’m highly critical yes, but it’s because I have the ability to judge the product and remove any emotional attachment I have to the artist. My judgement, although harsh, is pure - unadultered by other factors that cloud the authenticity of the verdict. Thus, I don’t trust another person’s judgement when they reference the artist’s character and/or effort when defending a work. It’s unrelated to the quality of the music! Music takes no offense, so I can judge it freely and without shame. And I’m just as critical with anything that I produce myself. In summary, I worship music, NOT idols. |
I feel like she's giving off Ningyohime a little bit in the Guess Who Is Back song.
|
Quote:
But nobody is 100% objective. You may not biased with an artist, but your are for sure biased with your taste in music. Like everybody else. |
Quote:
Regarding my delivery of opinion, I’ve said it before, but it’s important to me to convey the accuracy of my thoughts and reactions. I have a duty toward authenticity. I need to convey the extent as accurately as possible. Muting it removes my own color. |
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but insinuating that someone else's opinion is coloured by their love of an artist and that yours is somehow better because it's 'unbiased' isn't going to be helpful in discussion. Let's be a tad more respectful here to avoid unnecessary drama over a non-issue.
This is a general message to everyone in this thread |
Quote:
Just to answer to your thoughts here - I didn't mean only being biased towards certain genres of music, also like you said towards patterns, techniques, certain uses of voices and so on. Such stuff isn't limited to certain genres. E.g. you clearly don't like Kuu's singing technique she adapted in recent years. You're not alone with that, but there are also people, who disagree with that and like it or don't see a problem with it like now with Guess Who Is Back. It's not a problem of quality here, Kuu is working with a vocal teacher ever since she started experimenting with her voice in 2015. It's just your preference to something else, mainly the different atmosphere she is delivering judging from your words. |
To those who wrote that they have not been impressed with what Kuu released in recent years all I can say is that what you dislike others will like and vice versa
Everyone is free to continue or stop supporting Kuu due to variety of reasons but when you sound as though only your opinions matter while you put down others for disagreeing you then that's a problem and the never ending online war of words begins Also I feel that doesn't mean you know a ton of things others don't it makes you look superior . I'm no music tech expert myself but it's not as if I felt inferior about it End of the day please spare a thought for the long time fans of Kuu on here . If you don't like what Kuu has been releasing then just don't post on here or keep your opinions to yourself , there's no need to make matters worst by adding fuel to the fire And before I forget I'm not going to listen to DNA previews I just wait before the album is released next month to have a clearer opinion towards it |
I'm all for discussing different aspects, if people want to.
Regarding her different vocal delivery, her recent TV Tokyo Music Fes performance is really interesting. Cause she performed PARTY and Megumi no Hito back-to-back there and you can directly compare the different uses of her voice. The new rougher, more throaty one in PARTY and the old, more polished one in Megumi no Hito. |
Quote:
Love her styling, she looks amazing :love |
omg I wasn't expecting rock :O
I'll have to wait for the full version before I judge, but I think I'll like it. Do we know the name of the song Kuu said was difficult for her to record? |
|
^ Inkbox is a semi-permanent tattoo kit :)
|
GUESS WHO IS BACK does remind me of misono but all I think of is an amazing and strong kuu :)
|
Quote:
Also, I just listened to that short version of GUESS WHO'S BACK and I really like it. I didn't expect to enjoy it so much after being disappointed with AND, but I'm glad I'll have something to look forward to once DNA is released. :yes Quick question: does anyone know if Black Cover is a popular anime? I've never heard of it but I'm curious now. It's cool to see Koda having another song as the theme of an anime (the last one was... Go to the top?) |
Quote:
And I thiiiiiiiink you can request a name change, but I always feel bad bugging mods in general, especially since I feel like there are fewer of them, but more drama on the forum :laugh Don't judge me. :laugh In other news, I'm really excited for the PVs of this album. Kuu is serving looks and I love them!!! |
@wednesday: Not judging you, just noticed. ;)
Quote:
So it is Guess Who Is Back, unless the album will have another one. Guess it was so hard, cause she had to match, what the animation studio, Studio Pierrot, wanted for the opening from her. Quote:
It is much more popular than Total Eclipse, the anime Go to the top was for, for sure. ---------------------------------------------- https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...924/jynbKS.png Kuu finished recording DNA for good now - at least officially. Cause she says here with her caption, that she's "almost, almost done". She's probably going to work on this album till the release day. :laugh |

Dangerous is the theme song for the Black Clover mobile game!
You can hear the song in the latter part of the CM. Sounds like a more laid-back electronic dance song. |
Loooooving Dangerous so far! I'm happy that the tie-in for the App is also on DNA, I was afraid it was going to be the same situation for Gossip Candy x Hey Baby.
|
This is kinda embarrassing but I recorded myself dancing to "Get Up & Move!!" at the Koda Kumi dance night in Shinjuku ni-chome.
Get Up & Move!! is a top three track of mine, and I've long dreamt of getting the opportunity to really rock out to it. Right before this they played D.D.D. and I recorded that as well, but someone is standing in front of the camera almost the entire time. I went all out for both tracks thought, that's why you can see me coming back to the camera at the end of this video exhausted and with a heavy body, lol. |
That little snippet of Dangerous sounds so good, looking forward for the full song
And as for Guess who's back: the short version has parts that I Like but also some that I don't like that much. But I think that's it's going to be an okayish song for me |
Ohhh, Dangerous sounds soooo good and catchy, I'm getting so hyped for this album :heart
|
I wonder what was going through their minds when they choose HAIRCUT and WATCH OUT for the PVs. Not only do Guess Who is Back and Dangerous sound miles better than those two but they also have pretty decent tie-ins. Dont understand them at all.
|
^ Because both of them are getting exposure without PVs? It doesn't matter if they try to push both tie-in songs, since they are getting out there anyway. It's very early anyway, we're not even close to one month until the release.
|
Quote:
|
I can barely hear anything with that guy talking and the whole thing is like 6 seconds long. I can't make any judgment on this preview.
There's also Black Clover video game coming or in development, would have been awesome if she did a theme song for that one too but I guess it would be too much KK overdose for Black Clover fans. Quote:
|
^ Hey baby! was the opening song for Shin Chan and it the song started to be used during the promotions of Gossip Candy, but the song only was released half an year later as an album track on Dejavu
There's even this article, the pic was taken right after she performed some GC songs on a festival http://www.tokyohive.com/article/201...yon-shin-chan/ And the video with the guy talking IS the game of Black Cover and that's Kuu's song at the end :P |
But Hey baby! was a digital single.
It's not like they didn't release it at all before dropping it on an album. Quote:
https://www.playstation.com/en-us/ga...t-knights-ps4/ |
Oh, I didnt recall that, not bad then :P
|
I was afraid it was going to be an after-release kind of thing, glad it isn't the case.
