haha well there's always this debate, technically speaking the year 2000 was still part of the 90's since current calendars counts decades starting with the first year 1 and not year Zero, but experts says both ways are acceptable since most people thinks it goes from zero to 9, so yeah, kinda confusing but technically not wrong lol

It's so odd that Ayu only has one song in that 00's playlist... Sometimes I feel like Japan likes to pretend her career doesn't exist. :dead2

But if I understood it right, it's a list of most streamed songs that were released in 00s, it's not a selection made by a team of limited people.

EDIT: I was reading you again and I realized you are criticizing the audience in general hahaha I think it's also bizarre to see only 2 Utada songs in this list.

Haters are probably angry that she's still successful. Sold-out tie-in merchandise? A top-selling fictionalized autobiography-turned-drama? Concerts that sell well and an Instagram with more followers than many current stars?

How dare someone that clean people find embarrassing and that young people aren't into continue so shamelessly living her life as she wants and making money at it! She doesn't suit the current, more modest mores and people have passionate feelings about her, otherwise there wouldn't be hundreds of comments on every little article that comes out describing the newest thing she said on her Instagram. They might want to forget her, but they can't! And eventually, divas and bling will come back into fashion.

There's also the fact that many songs are worldwide famous for certain 90's anime, so they get more streams thanks to the anime fans around the world unlike Ayu, her biggest hits aren't anime/videogames ties-in (Dearest would be the only "big" in her ties-in, her Tales Of openings are great but the franchise is not as international and popular as idk final fantasy lol) so her biggest hits such a BLUE BIRD, SEASONS, M, Boys & Girls, Voyage, etc mostly receive streams only in Japan and her international fanbase of course, but still there's a big difference compared to hit anime songs.

Sorry for the double post but I had some free time so decided to update these! Here's her current TOP 100 streamed songs on Spotify, some things that I noticed while making the playlist below:

Actually it's really well-balanced between classics and recent songs, Ohia no Ki, Haru Yo Koi and Dreamed a Dream are performing really well in streams terms and I'm actually surprised (in a good way!) how many Colours to TROUBLE tracks are in there, many always point how they only like (or even say she was relevant) until 2010 but this proves her "recent" work was still well-received!

Trust is featured 3 times because unlike others songs, the "A song for xx" version has a different count from the "A best" version, so they count as "different tracks", Trust - A Eurobeat Mix from SUPER EUROBEAT presents ayu-ro-mix is the only remix track that made it into the TOP 100 with over 280K streams!

A song is born is featured two times as well, one is the single version with Keiko and the other one would be her solo version from I am... album.

In the new playlist I made there're a few tracks from A BALLADS 2 versions bc only some of these count the song's total streams and since they have better quality I decided to include those (An example: songs like carols, momentum or aeternal share their total streams from their respective albums with their A BALLADS 2 versions but other tracks like You Were... don't, no idea why, probably just Spotify bein an *ss lol)

Sparkle has criminally low streams, barely made it into the TOP 100 at #99 with about 260K streams :shakehead

Damn, Party Queen is so underrated, I really like that album. The fact that there was only one single from it and the lack of promotion must've not help at all.

Trouble, on the other hand, has pretty great numbers for only 5 tracks and no songs with music videos.

Has anyone else noticed independent+ is all weird on Spotify? On RAINBOW, track fifteen is independent+ (track and bonus track), but then track sixteen is + again, except it fades out well before the end. I wish they'd separate them.properly.

I'd also been wondering how Spotify treats the same tracks across different albums; I'm not sure it collates these (so listening to a song on the album first and then to a single release may not count toward the same stats). I'm suggesting this because in my own personal Spotify stats I have fairyland twice, once in third place (with the (miss)understood cover) and once in eighteenth place (with the single cover). Same for Days (single at 22 and album at 48).

Some tracks have the playcounts unified, but others count separately. I think it's up to avex to resolve that.

Hi there @sxesven I checked and CAROLS is one of those weird cases where every version streams are unified! (Single, MY STORY, A BEST2 BLACK, A COMPLETE and A BALLADS 2 count are unified so it all goes to its total stream count!)

It should be this way but honestly Avex didn't do a proper job with this, for example as I said CAROLS' every version is unified, even those with different tittles (A COMPLETE VERSION - A BALLADS 2 VERSION) and other tracks with the exact same title and track tag aren't unified, Boys & Girls from A BEST has the biggest total counts and shares its streams with some versions from other compilatory releases but the LOVEppears version (exactly same tittle track) has its own total count with barely 200K streams, which is also different from the LOVEppears 20th anniversary edition. Honestly I think they should sit and check all that because there's so many tracks that technically should have way higher streams if their streams count were unified but we're talking about Avex here so I wouldn't expect much lol

I do check manually certain streams counts to compare if they're unified or not but I mostly use ChartMaster! you have subscribe tho but I think there's some free trials as well, it has different tools but mostly I use it to check her number of followers, total streams, each songs streams and also I can check her each album total count :yes

About the track titles dividing method I suppose that avex cares more about the money that they get with each stream rather than how each track is shown doing on Spotify but it would be nice if the staff that are in charge on this would do a better job with it.

Also need to remember that there are still a lot of listerens in Apple Music, youtube, Line music, AWA (the platform that avex tried to support and bring subscribers to through ayu etc.) and other platforms as well, even though it’s for all artists and not ayu only. I’m using Spotify so I like seeing how well ayu does there.
