I just completed Kingdom Hearts and the credits said Utada Hikaru sung the theme tune, I checked her out on wikipedia and youtube and loved her and I heard Ayumi was considered her rival so I checked her out and loved her as well.

Probably 2004.

That's when I first heard "Dearest," I believe. The first CD I ever received was the "SEASONS" single, December 31, 2004. At that time, I had probably only known a few songs ("Dearest," "no more words," "evolution," and "Free & Easy"). I think I wanted her "I am..." album (because of the tracklist I saw in the "BEST OF INUYASHA" booklet) and her "RAINBOW" album because of her use of English in her lyrics.

I wasn't aware of her 2004/"MY STORY" single releases when I was slowing becoming a fan. No, I probably didn't notice until "fairyland" was released. Even when "STEP you/is this LOVE?" came out, I either saw the commercial for it after it was released, or didn't even pay attention to the release date, and I just loved the songs. (Then again, I was aware of "STEP you" performances...)

2004 was the year I first heard of her, but I'd say the year I became the fan I am now would be 2005.

Summer of 2003. heard Dearest, evolution... watched the Free & Easy PV, kept looking for more and more! loved and bought the & single... etc. the rest is history!

End of 2006 is when I really started getting into her music and J-Pop in general, even though I heard Dearest and SIGNAL years ago.

I stopped hating her in 2001, and I became a hard-core fan in 2002. Weird how things change!

Around 2001/2002.

I stumbled accross a fanmade final fantasy music video and it was using "Fly high" as it's song. I got hooked on the song and started exploring her music more, I eventually evolved into the biggest ayumi fan in Ireland I tells ya :)

I'd say around winter of 2004. I had been into Utada Hikaru for only a little while, and I was reading reviews of her albums, and I saw somebody make a comparison to her and Ayu. I decided to check it out, and the first song I downloaded was "Catcher in the Light". From then on, I downloaded her MY STORY album, which had coincidentally just came out, and I was hooked. I absolutely loved it. I downloaded the rest of her discography, and now here I am.

Since then, I've purchased all of her albums, and even a few singles. :)

uhmmm... a can't remember it clearly but i think it was around 2000-2001... I have this favorite Japanese song on my playlist with an unknown artist and i decided to write the lyrics based on what i heard and i google-it.. and yayks! Ayumi Hamasaki -To Be... LOL! after that, i started dL-ing and Buying her albums...:)

When glitter/fated leaked. I was curious of who this Ayumi Hamasaki was since her name was cool. I loved fated and then I became her fan and stuff. Then I stumbled on here (:

a wonderfull 2003 summer <333

I started listening to Ayu in February 2007 (after I broke up with my boyfriend). The first song I heard was 'Depend on You' and the second was 'STEP you'. I was interested and looked for more. A few days later, I heard 'Memorial Address' live @ Arena Tour 2003~2004 and I fell in love with Ayu's music.

This is super hard for me to believe, but it was in her LOVEppears era, the first two songs I heard were Who... and Monochrome and I didn't realize it until now, that's when my stepbrother lived with us, and he's the reason I started listening to her, I thought I had her in I Am... era, but I can't believe it was during her sophomore album.

I believe it was December 2004 - January 2005, sometime around then. A friend mentioned her so I decided to look into it and downloaded Real Me, which i loved. So i downloaded a few more like Boys and Girls, Evolution, Game and M. Got a few videos and live performance and yeah, before long she had taken over my hard drive and dvd/cd shelf.

hmmm... i started to like Ayu since 2003..so it's almost 5 years now~

I never really liked Ayu at first. I didn't pay attention till BLUE BIRD came out. I downloaded the song and then the single itself. I loved the single. When I went to Hong Kong during the winter for 3 days. I bought SECRET. I didn't become a huge fan till I bought A BEST 2 ~Black~, A BEST 2 ~ White~, and glitter/fated all at the same time...in the same store where I bought SECRET. XD Since then I became a devoted fan. So in other words...around 2006-07...or whenever BLUE BIRD was released. XD

i remember seeing the evolution pv at anime conventions around 2000, but that's all i knew of her. then i stumbled upon this site called grooveasia (i believe i was looking for boa songs). it was like between august and october 2002 when independent was released or re-released or something. but she was no. 1 on the japan chart and i got curious and never looked back since.

2006, I didn't like japanese music too much at that time, but when I listened to Ayu, I changed my mind completely

i start being a fan of Ayu since 2003 ( the song from ayu-appears that my brother give it to me include SPEED MV was so great).. but it kinda hard to find cd and stuff..just buy what i can get..

mmmh.... 2007... first j-music i listened to was hinoi team - night of fire...in a german forum...most guys mades jokes of the music and the video blabla...but i kinda liked it... then i searched for j-music internet radio stations, heard blue bird and (of course) searched for j-music on wikipedia... and there she was.... ayu.... :love

Right as 2003 was ending, like...Decemberish. I had heard her stuff, but that's when I started becoming a hard core fan. :)

Around May/June 2004, I first heard "Dearest" after an InuYasha episode, typed ayumi in LimeWire to get the video for it and got "Moments" tagged as "Dearest", fell in love with it and became a fan :luv2

Well, it sounds sad, but actually it's just the way every artist will meet on their ways. Almost every single person has more than one idols to begin with. As time goes by you drop off some of them because you either love the remainings more than those left behind, or you just dun have anything in common with the artists.

And probly, there are still a lot of A song for xx + LOVEppears eras ayu fans, but they just dun go on this board anymore.

May 2008 will mark my 2 years becoming one of ayu's hardcore fan !!!

The first time i listened to an ayu song was in dec 2003 when a friend let me listened to End roll. It was so gripping that i asked him who the singer was. He said "ayumi hamasaki and this is the only nice song she has". Thank goodness I didn't listen to him. When Memorial Address came out a few months later I bought it to 'try her out' and have not turned back since.

I was a casual fan around 2003/04 but I became a huge fan late 2006.
