Well, the lyrics of the song are amazing as well as the composition-y ness. XD

The title fits so well <3 'no more words' <3

Um, if this is directed toward me, why don't you just say so? I apologize if it isn't.

I never said Koda Kumi wasn't talented. I was arguing about how she hasn't made the same sales impact as the idols that came before her (Ayu, Hikki, Namie) i.e. in both single and album sales.

I personally won't get into a debate about Ayu vs. Kumi, because I think it's a waste of time. Needless to say, I like some of Koda Kumi's songs, but there is a lot I don't like. Among her new, non-12-weeks-of-Christmas songs, I only like I'll Be There.

I'll disagree about Dearest and No More Words.

Oh god no, not you, just Anthony cos he loves Ayu too much. One day, he will see Ayu's face without make up and he'll hate her forever. :laugh

I like both songs :) Dearest, I think, is essential Ayu. And No More Words is one of the best Ayu songs I've ever heard.

Mad_Cactuar 16th August 2006 04:00 PM

Wow, we all like Ayu songs but our choices contrast. I think Rainy Day is so awesome, the best Ayu song ever. Together with Rainbow and STEP you. And I can bet there's 21984712487 who disagree with this. And that makes this place beautiful. :)

Oh, sorry then. I should warn you, though, that I tend to love Ayu too much too. Hehe. But I won't be all obsessive-defensive.

And I personally don't think Ayu will look bad without make up on. I can easily imagine her without it.

Without an image, they might as well be singing in coffee shops and hotel lounges. Or Vegas :D

With a title like that, I'd expect her to shut up for the entire duration of the song. Not that I hate her or anything, but wow I hate that song. It's so very weak to me. I need more listens I guess..

Don't worry, same here, except the Ayu=obsession wore off a little, replaced with Mika-ness.

There's no need to be mean :P

That's my experience with a lot of Ayu songs. I need time to let them sink in. Ourselves took me three years to appreciate. Maybe the same thing will happen with Startin' and Step You? But that's just me.

I reserve my hate for songs by "artists" like The Cheeky Girls. Heh. Hate is such a strong word :)

Mad_Cactuar 16th August 2006 05:19 PM

Ok, dislike sounds milder and nicer and easier to change. I dislike some Ayu songs, especially Dearest, No More Words, and some My Story tracks. Hate is reserved for Humming 7/4, blasphemy. I think the more songs you have, the higher the chance for a song people might not like.

Ourselves was a 3-listen-wonder for me.

Haha, I can understand your hate for Humming 7/4. But Lord help me I love that song, along with Bold & Delicious :D

Well, in my case, how I react to music in general is usually in flux. I will like a song at some point, and then feel apathetic towards it, and then like it again. Or I'll dislike a song intensely (Hikki's Colors), and then suddenly fall in love with it. It's a very irrational process, but I think it keeps things interesting :)

I'm not that crazy over Ourselves at the moment. It's a lot of on-again, off-again. But time will tell.

By the way, I think we've officially veered away from the topic at hand... ;)

So, I think the next single will sell as much as Blue Bird, but I don't think it will sell as well as last year's batch. Sign of the times. I'm crossing my fingers that it isn't released on September. It would be fun if Ayu came out with something on October. I don't think she's ever released an October single since For My Dear...

LacusClyne 17th August 2006 03:36 AM

^wasn't the Panasonic cm coming up at Sept? so there's a chance that ayu will either release at the end of sept or beginning of oct.

truehappiness 17th August 2006 07:58 AM

Uemara-san just hopes that she might release in October..

Hopefully she releases earlier.. :]

What she needs: good music. People don't like the music Ayu is making now.

Anyway, I don't think her next album will cross the 1 million mark.

the Loveppears cover is amazing... provocative and sexy, beautiful. Dunno why you don't think so?

edit: LOL i realized this thread is an extremely old bump by above poster... lol...

zyoeru 20th September 2009 10:47 AM

The LOVEppears cover is good and provocative, but she's more photoshopped there than on the S/S covers.

thank you for speaking up. i refrained from replying because it would make me seem defensive. but lol... i really don't see how zyoeru could consider loveppears heavily photoshopped... and I REALLY can't see how they would think loveppears is more photoshopped than sunrise cover?!

Maybe he meant the appears single cover? They made her dark there.
But I don't think she's that photoshopped in the LOVEppears cover. I love that cover and I love that album! It's much better than anything Ayu is doing nowadays in my opinion (with a few exceptions).

lol yeah i'm sure LOVEppears is photoshopped but to say it's more photoshopped than the S/S covers is just...weird imo. but that's just my opinion and he can have his. i strongly disagree though LOL

untitledforayu 20th September 2009 02:18 PM

Wow it's kinda depressing that she used to be able to sell over 1,700,000 albums in a week yet now 400,000 seems a struggle after 25 weeks!

Yeah, yeah, I know that she was in her prime back then and illegal downloading has increased a zillion-fold since 2002, but...yeah...i can't help but feel kinda bleak...

PEARL 20th September 2009 02:51 PM

sad.
maybe its the recession now?
but boybands are selling like O.M.G x.x
maybe if it include sales worldwide ayu would be over a million..

Boybands are more popular than singular singers. I dunno why, maybe 'cause they're handsome? lol (ok ok someone have good vocals also :rolleyes)

I don't pay attention to sales nowadays. I must confessed, I'm really happy for high sales but isn't important at all.
Even with low sells she's still pretty popular among japanese people.

I'm sure that a day she will return to break the million, like Namie.
She need to make THE SONG. Like M, SEASONS, A Song for XX.. a masterpiece like them :yes

PEARL 20th September 2009 04:30 PM

haha hell yea.
boybands = handsome + can sing ? = sell alot.
Ayu = Gorgeous + can sing ? = lesser?
maybe boybands got more handsome + can sing guys & Ayu only got Ayu. LOL

ayumisrael 20th September 2009 04:34 PM

(For the previous page)

LOVEppears is the best album exists imo.

I really LOVE the cover even though it's noy my favorite cover of ayu.

Btw Duty is ayu's best selling original album, LOVEppears is the 2nd and I am... the 3rd.

rainydayumi 21st September 2009 12:54 AM

wow!! the sales for A BEST first week :tired can someone try to get the full weekly sales for (miss)understood, guilty, secret ad next level as well??

zyoeru 21st September 2009 08:37 AM

About the cover of LOVEppears LOL. I personally think it's the worst cover she's ever had. You can tell that her chest is photoshopped soooo unnaturally, because I for one have never seen a woman with a chest like that. LOL

C+R+E+AYUMI 21st September 2009 09:03 AM

I love this thread!! so interesting! thanks so much!

Calico 21st September 2009 09:05 AM

^.... no comment :laugh

There are always phases for music. In the 90s it was dance groups (mostly female, even), at the turn of the millennium it was female solo artists, and now it's boy-groups. This one has been going on quite a while but I wouldn't be surprised if trends shift in the near future as is.

let me guess... you're a dude?

<--- confirmed!

zyoeru 21st September 2009 02:09 PM

^ Well done, but I know what the chest looks like on both sexes. O_o

waterballoon 21st September 2009 02:44 PM

I think we should stop complaining about the boy bands... it's a fact they can sell better; so? There's nothing we can do... it really is the era where we have to lower the bar for female solo singers.

There will be no way; let me repeat, no way that Ayu or any female solo singer can sell millions in the first week or anything close to that feat.

100k is the new benchmark for an Ayu single; maybe 300-500k for an Ayu album.

It's okay if you disagree with me though. :P

Evolution7/4 21st September 2009 06:13 PM

LovePPEARS cover was considered very new and fresh because of the nudity right?? I thought it captured Japan's attention, its wrong to say its a bad cover. And I thought Duty was her best selling studio album.

ayumisrael 21st September 2009 11:04 PM

Yes Duty is ayu's best selling original album.
It outsold LOVEppears in 300,000 and something. XD

Yeah but isn't it a matter of aesthetic taste? I think nudity can be done terrifically, but sadly I don't think it was done to its potential there, therefore I think it's a bad cover, whereas with Mirrorcle World the nudity there was much nicer, same with RAINBOW's cover, that was soooo pretty. But LOVEppears' is just bad imo.

And yeah, Duty is her best selling album...

Evolution7/4 22nd September 2009 08:17 AM

^While I agree the nudity is best on Mirrorcle OWrld and Rainbow, I thought it was effectively done and fitting in Loveppears. it was fierce and fresh, and very mature (which was great with the expression of Ayu). it was very metropolitan feeling and it fit in with the club like sound of the album imo.

waterballoon 23rd September 2009 03:44 PM

And most importantly, no "I'm lost" face or anything horrific like that. :yes

Corvina 23rd September 2009 04:13 PM

I love Ayu's older albums and it isn't surprising they're such million sellers.
Isn't it funny that under her best selling albums are the ones with nude covers? So random, but it's a funny coincidence and I love those covers the most. XD

asmAyumi1992 26th September 2009 11:14 AM

Wow. I don't know A BEST reached 4million! Wow! I gotta buy that album too althoug it's really long time ago!

What she needs: good music. People don't like the music Ayu is making now.

Anyway, I don't think her next album will cross the 1 million mark.

I agree with you. I don't really like what Ayu is making with her music now. People buy music not the cover although covers can help, isn't it?

LOVEppears is my most favorite studio album as far, then A Song for XX, I am...

Duty is Ayu's best-selling studio album by far. A BEST is a compilation album so I don't think it should be labeled with her other studio albums. Maybe?

This is really good to know. :yes

Amazing. I had no idea A BEST charted in 2004 as well. I knew A Song for xx and LOVEppears both had a long chart life but A BEST is a total mystery to me. I don't understand how it was able to have such a long chart life but it's alright. :)

Good info, thank you very much. :)

A BEST also charted for 2 or 3 weeks on 2007. ^^
