These numbers are INDEX numbers. Its like a ratio of how much all stores has sold of XXX item. (Per store, per item, per capita)

I believe Oricon uses a factor of 181%- so multiply your indexes by 1.81 and those are some big sales.

The only reason that this is creating confusion is because people are taking it way too seriously. Just ignore the numbers, jeez.

This has not been confirmed by Oricon. It was posted on some livedoor blog.

ORICON is probably going to get rid of this thing as soon as the BEST has a week or two of sales.

They always end up manipulating the charts in some way when Ayu releases.. and then it just goes back to normal o_o..

No, it was when Ken Hirai's POP STAR coming out I think (whether or not Ken Hirai must be on the chart when that happened). I remember seeing number on daily chart during that period and yeah that only last for about two days.

I think Oricon sometimes is lazy. They've skipped the NIKKI chart several times already..

I am sure that the indicator is not representative...
from today's HK newspaper, it said that Utada's new single has already been sold over 400,000 pieces...(Indicator of Utada's single doesn't exceed 70,000 these days...) Thus definitely we need not worry about A BEST 2^^

I say it's highly likely that these albums will pass 800k [to be safe. As that would be 1.6 million total for both..]~

hmn.. I didn't see this thread during fairyland release (probly I was blind LOL). I just saw that index thingie during Ken Hirai's release..

Anywayz... looking at SCREAM's first day index and fairyland's one.. it's quite surprising. It seems like the indicator has NOTHING to do w/ that actual sales at all. SCREAM's index was around 40000 and it sold like 300000 weekly. fairyland's one (as shown on your quote) was like 78000 and only ~160K copies being sold on the first week..

So I think the indicator is kinda like a NIKKI chart, except it reflects the percentage of sales distribute among the artists??? Or is it really what we thought --> indicator times 1.8 = actual sales?????

^Well that's kind of hard to say. Porno Graffiti's 2 best album's difference was 16k 1st week. With Ayu, maybe factoring in the other things the difference would be bigger?

Plus I find 80k to be a very low first day..
But combined, 160k on the first day is pretty good.

well, let's just wait for the whole week sales when oricon announce it on wednesday, i optimistic the weekly sales will not less than a million(combined)

The weekend boosted the "sales" AKA THE INDEX.

Well, I am still quite confused about the index number thing~~ I only learned this year about INDEX numbers. is it something about dividing the new year sales with the base year sales??
I learned something like these, Product of new year divide the products of the base year.... or Pn Qn / Po Qo something like that~~

If these are indications of market share it might happen that she sells more the days the numbers are low and less the days the numbers are high... I think I'll leave these things alone untill we get the weekly numbers. :thud

The boost might also be because it's the weekend? But then again, if it's a kind of "percentage", then it wouldn't make sense that people buy ayu more in the weekend than during the week :P
But I think we should indeed wait until Wednesday for the true weekly sales. And I hope too that we will all be surprised/relieved :)

Let's look at the bright side and believe in Ayu! To me, the numbers shown on the Oricon Chart are quite stable. So by the end of the week, hope it'll pass 800K. So we shall wait and see. =)

It might not have pushed sales having two relatively expensive versions,but...
I am much much happier with the way that this was done. So many bests seem like they just throw 15 songs together in no specific order and tack a few videos on the dvd. I think that althought it obviously made avex more money as there are more versions to buy, it is nice as a fan to have this collection and not feel completely cheated. There was actually a bit of effort put in,as opposed to so many other similar collections.

just an update that WHITE is still no. 1 today :P, and the indicator thingie increases as well for both album :D

Now that's the final day for counting sales towards weekly chart... so nervous now cuz we will know the result in about 10 to 12 hrs on oricon :P

I tend to not think of it being seperate albums but just 1 best album. so in my eyes, the album sold 945,000 and will reach a million in no time :D

Im very happy with the sales :D considering both are released at the same time, etc. Even if the sales do no go over 1 million seperately.

After watching Ayu's sales fall since '04 (good but not omg!awesome like during the crazy years when I wasn't a fan of hers yet), almost a million in a week for two albums is enough to make me very happy.

I actually like the release in 2 seperate albums...she just has so many good songs in the past 6 years. I dont think any of us would think she could top A BEST sales with A BEST 2....thats like having them sell atleast 2.25 million each!

We shouldn't compare a successful artist to one who's blooming. Ayumi has had a #1 album every time since Debut, while Koda only started with ~first things~ Ayumi is very successful, and even with lackluster past two albums, a BEST album at that rate seemed to me just a little low.

However, thinking in terms of A BEST 2 in general, 945,000 is a HUGE feat for ayu!

IMO, it only seems disappointing because the albums were split in two. If it were a single disc release, I'm sure the sales would be a lot higher per-album. But it's not. So deal with it. @#)@!

Looking at the albums individually, yes the sales do suck (esp. for a BEST album). I don't think anyone is making up any excuses nor do I see what the problem is with considering A BEST 2 just one album. I thought it was also apparent that because she released 2 CDs at once that the sales for each CD weren't going to equal the sales of releasing just one CD, and I'm not sure why anyone would think so. (Personally, I'm surprised that she sold so much of each CD, I was expecting the sales to be much closer to the indicator numbers =x)
