I loveeee The introduction and montage. SO refreshing to hear ... no longer Labyrinth ver. 3.0

THE introduction is amazing, reminds me of something out of A Clockwork Orange (very late 60s, early 70s synth)

lol. Did you read my post or do we just have the exact same opinion? :) Clockwork Orange was the first thing that sprung to mind for me as well. I agree that THE introduction and montage are both great. I also think that they don't necessarily help the flow of the album like interludes should, but by themselves I love them.

prussian blue 7th April 2010 04:48 AM

wooh i just listened to count down, and the atmosphere is similiar to memorial address @_@ very nice. i'm going to LOVE this album

hightea_xx 7th April 2010 05:45 AM

umm, ok i just finished listening to red line album version and i didn't really notice too much different until the end... totally caught me off guard! ayu's a cappella at the end is amazing.

the interludes really suck this time around tho, i'm sorry. every album usually has one really great amazing interlude that draws me in (i am = opening run, m(u) = are you wake up; secret = not yet, guilty = mirror, etc etc) but this time around they were all forgettable...

that being said, i think this album will be really good!

ll moments ll 7th April 2010 06:52 AM

THE introduction: oh lord...i think this is her weakest intro to date. it's just so flat...i think it would've worked later in the album, maybe?, but definitely not as an introduction.

Microphone: ahhhh, it sounds great in HQ!! it's just so powerful and filled with high energy. and the video is great! definitely one of the standout tracks in this album, for sure.

count down: it reminds me of a modernized GUILTY (the song, obvs), but i think this is heaps better than that song. while this is slower than Microphone, i really think it can match the "power" factor. i like it a lot! (...i thought this would be an interlude, lol)

Sunset ~LOVE is ALL~: hmmm...i'm not sure if this song fits in this spot (or if the song fits in the album at all?) but i guess if it needed be somewhere it would be in this section. but i think BALLAD would've been better here? i'm not sure, maybe after a couple listens to the album, aha. but i always thought this song was the weakest of the single tracks. (weakest track in the album, even...imo)

BALLAD: i love BALLAD and i always will. it's so gorgeous! it's my favorite single track of this era.

Last Links: oh i love the beginning! it's great. the arrangement of the song is very strong, imo. there's something very Ayu about it, but there's something new about it as well. i can't pick it out.

montage: i think it's tons better than THE introduction, but it's still very odd to me. thus far, all the interludes/instrumentals in this album are very weak. probably her weakest in an album to date. but at least the actual songs are awesome. XD

Don't look back: I. LOVE. THIS. SONG. along with Microphone, i think this is one of the strongest album tracks. it's just so...GREAT. i love the music. it's the modern INSPIRE/vogue (music-wise) of this album.

Jump!: hmmm....i kinda like it, ahahaha. why? because this interlude actually makes sense to me from the transition from Don't look back to Lady Dynamite.

Lady Dynamite: yay! while i'm enjoying the seriousness of the music in the first half, it's great to have some fun too. the song is so much fun in HQ! & the PV running in my mind makes me enjoy it more, LOL. HAY AYU, HAY~

Sexy little things: probably the most innovative & unique track of the album. (the Sparkle of the album for me!) it's something new for Ayu and i LOVE it. it's cute, but not....at the same time. i just love the little details you listen to throughout the song. i love the video too. FIERCE AYU~

Sunrise ~LOVE is ALL~: i like this song. but that's it. aha. i do think the two songs (Sunset/Sunrise) are an odd bunch compared with the rest of the album.

meaning of Love: i think this is the weakest out of the album tracks, but i don't think it's bad, you know. i think i even prefer it to Sunset...

You were...: i like this song too. it's got a powerful chorus. it's the Hamasaki winter ballad of the album. every album needs one, LOL.

RED LINE ~for TA~ [album version]: while i never really got into this song when it was released, i do have to say it's a really nice ending song. definitely better than Curtain Call, for sure. i love the ending. it's so sweet! it definitely reminds me why i stan for Ayu. haha.

OVERALL: while it's probably too early to say...i do think Rock'n'Roll Circus is much better than GUILTY & NEXT LEVEL on a initial listen (...i even think the flow is stronger than that of Secret, even though i adore that album, lol). it's not the most perfect album (nothing can really top Duty IMHO), but a solid effort. the arrangements are stronger than her previous recent efforts. i love that there's that always distinctive Ayu sound, but it still has a modern edge in it (and it is executed better than the "modern sound" that was supposed to come out of NEXT LEVEL). the only real disappointment to me are the interludes/instrumental songs. i usually LAHV LAHV LAHV one, if not all, of them, but at least the songs are top notch. while i did enjoy NEXT LEVEL & GUILTY, the album tracks were weak...but in this album, i thought the singles were (some of) the weakest!

TeddyGrahams 7th April 2010 07:00 AM

I love this album! It's already my favorite album. o_0

Anyone love the guitars in last link as much as I do!?!?

This album seems very complete. Almost all of the album songs are very catchy. It's so hard to choose a favorite song!

inspire_rmx 7th April 2010 09:23 AM

watched all the new 4 PVs.
my favourite PV definitely has to be microphone. slt came in close. but the best PV scene imo of this album is the lollipop scene. LOVE it. hot, sexy and cute. i love her hair, eyes and the outfit. totally rock.

song wise. definitely a step up from next level. haven't listen to coundown, last link and meaning of love. but i'm loving the rest of the songs already. esp Red Line -ablum version- the ending is stunning. fresh idea. very sincere and touching. her vocals isn't prefect there. but the emotions are great. classy way to end the album.

can't wait for my copy of the album to arrive =)

Maemi 7th April 2010 11:46 AM

The interludes are listenable, but the worst in her discography.
Microphone, Don't look back are amazing, Sexy little things is very catchy, but I think she'll have issues later with perfoming - she'll probably sing it bad.
The singles are good.
RED LINE is terrible.

count down, last links and meaning of love - I haven't heard them yet, I'm waiting for HQs^^

alternarist 7th April 2010 11:50 AM

the interludes made me go HUH?!?!?! after listening to them. so much emphasis was put into the title THE introduction and i dont feel any impact at all. nonetheless, i feel that having it before Microphone is suitable..

Jump! was "sensible". but i duno how this is gonna link any songs. montage was great!!! but perhaps it's out of the way for any songs.. :(

i just wanna see how ayu uses these interludes for her AT2010!!

NintendoHTF1242 7th April 2010 01:09 PM

Sexy little things is so sexy in HQ! I'm gonna play this song over and over and ignore everything else on the album for a while kthx

PoetGirl 7th April 2010 01:35 PM

Its too early to rank this album with other Ayu albums, but I can say I love this album! THE introduction is epic and goes so well with Microphone. Everything flows quite well and Im amazed by that fact lol. I usually find one or two songs or interludes kinda weird and out of place on Ayu albums. Microphone is fierce and then it goes count down which is midtempo and then a ballad! I love it. Cound down is so beautiful, I cant wait for HQ of it. Sunset and BALLAD I love since long ago. Last links is also beautiful, I love the intro for the song. montage sounds like a classic piece, Im amazed by it, and dont know how people can say her interludes are weakest on this album. Jump! is strange a bit, I admit, but montage and epic THE introduction are so awsome I forget Jump! exists lol. Don't look back is PERFECTION. Lady Dynamite is awsome, fierce and catchy! Sexy little things is like a left over from NEXT LEVEL but still so interesting and different for Ayu cause of cute+swing feel. Sunrise I love from the moment it was born. meaning of Love is adorable also and it goes so well with You were... RED LINE is amazing and acapella at the end made it even better!! So overall I love this album!

Picaflor 7/4 7th April 2010 02:02 PM

just heard the interludes

THE introduction: don't like it. the beginning sounds like an extended version of Don't Look Back, and it then fades into some weird 80s song.

montage: very boring. violins are a bit harsh. I kind of wish it was smoother and softer like the introduction to mirrorcle world. It just seems wrong to me.

JUMP!: best interlude of them. Although it sounds like an amateur fanmix made on Reason or Acid Pro, I do like it. How she sings "yeah" and it reverses and stuff. and the Jump Jump Jump chanting is cool. I feel if you made it a tad faster and added heavy synths you could have a cool rave song to open up a dance party.

Not~Yet 7th April 2010 02:41 PM

One thing I have to say.... I love the melodies on this album. :laugh I won't be giving grades this time because I know my opinion would change daily anyway. XD

THE introduction: At first I was waiting for a climax a la Load of the Shugyo or something and was left confused when there wasn't any. :P But when I too realized the similiarity to Clockwork Orange it became interesting.
Microphone: Needless to say, I love it. Clearly the most powerful track on the album, plus it's awesome.
count down: Omfg just when I thought no other song on this album could be on the level of DLB and SLT. I get a really strong GUILTY-vibe from it. I don't know if it's just me though, but while the feel is really dark and sad I also get a bittersweet/relieved feel from it. O__o Loving it. <3 This one's probably also gonna be one of my all time favourites.
Sunset ~LOVE is ALL~: Grew on me. <3 Now I really like the laid-back and soft sound it has.
BALLAD: Been obsessed with this song lately, the arrangement is simply gorgeous and her vocals haunting.
Last Links: I love the summery feel, haha. The verses are pretty boring but the chorus definitely makes up for them. The little violin solo is so beautiful!
montage: First minute -> pretty boring. Last 30 seconds -> LOVE.<3 It really makes me think of those antiqued tent-like circuses with creepy vibes.
Don't Look Back: This song is just near perfection. I can't express how much I love it. XD
Jump!: I felt dizzy after hearing it LOL. :laugh I was afraid it was going to be something cutesy and was positively surprised when it wasn't. Can't wait to hear this in HQ, I like the guitars and electro-ish effects.
Lady Dynamite: Sounds so much better in HQ. I don't really care for the verses of this one either, but the arrangement and chorus are good.
Sexy Little Things: It's :heart. The electro-swing-pop = genius idea. Also one of my faves.
Sunrise ~LOVE is ALL~: Like Sunset, Sunrise also grew on me. It just clicked one day, and now I find it really groovy and entertaining. ^^
meaning of Love: It's simple and pretty. Also kinda forgettable, but I really like the melody of the chorus.
You were...: The guitars in the chorus are great and the song is overall good too, but right now I can't really feel it. I guess it's because it lives in the winter time and I'm already changing to summer mode. XD
RED LINE ~for TA~ (album version): Like I said before, I wanted more changes for the arrangement but it's good like this too, and the ending is just perfect.

It's amazing how Rock 'N' Roll Circus impressed me right away. I love almost everything, from arrangements to melodies to lyrics to vocals. I'm so happy :heart

GRACE 7th April 2010 03:34 PM

Iunno, I can't tell why but I have such a mixed feeling about this album. I feel very fufilled and very disappointed at the same time. It's great but I can't help but feel like it's... missing something. I also sorta feel like she put more effort into some songs over others, and it was very easy to hear...

aloopy 8th April 2010 01:16 AM

Just listened to the new tracks.

count down - Don't really care for it, but some parts are really nice. I don't like the chorus for some reason, but the rest is good.
Last Links - I really like it! Love the instrumentals!
meaning of Love - I didn't think I would like it because people said it reminded them of Days (And I hate that song) But I LOVE it! I love how simple it sounds. My favorite ballad on the album.

This albums is so much better than NEXT LEVEL. Good job Ayu!

amorphose 8th April 2010 01:22 AM

Here's my ranking of the songs, starting with the best:

1. Microphone ~ Don't look back
3. Sexy little things
4. Last Links
5. Lady Dynamite
6. count down
7. BALLAD
8. RED LINE ~for TA~ [album version]
9. meaning of Love
10. Sunset
11. You were...
12. Sunrise

13. montage ~ Jump!
15. THE introduction

The album tracks are so, so good this time around. :D

freedreamer 8th April 2010 11:12 AM

Though I havent heard the album...but to GRACE, do you think that the album lacks the vibrancy like in (miss)understood and NEXT LEVEL? Yet the mood, though dark, is still less depressing than GUILTY?

I was just looking at the tracklist...and song styles...and I was thinking, maybe that's what some people feel missing? I dont know. I dont even feel fair that Im judging the album WITHOUT listening oh dear...but it was because I was in the midst of writing my review for the album..leaving gaps for the album tracks.. And i usually have this part for Recommended tracks...for NEXT LEVEL (at that time), i put down everything..but yet now, only 3 songs stayed with me till now. Yet individually, the tracks on that album were good, just weak when they were together.

So...for R'n'RC...of course I dont know yet..but hmm...it's gotten me thinking already. Its a vibe though..with m-u and NEXT LEVEL, when I think of them, I think of a rainbow..but with R'n'RC, I think of black, red, brown LOl...

(i really need to listen to the album dont I?..tsk)

Tom Punks 8th April 2010 11:22 AM

^ I, like GRACE, also feel like this album is somehow incomplete. But the thing is, it's got all of the usual song types on it. There's the epic rock track, mid-tempo rock ballad, winter ballad, oriental ballad, MY ALL-type uplifting song, upbeat summer track... I feel like she usually pulls off the mixture of styles better than she did here though. This album is just not cohesive at all, yet her earlier albums that had the same mixture of tracks felt much more cohesive somehow. So I have no idea what's really missing, if not the fact that even though this album has a lot of strong songs, it just doesn't really all tie together nice and neatly. :(

freedreamer 8th April 2010 01:17 PM

Hmm im starting to envision what you mean. (which is bad coz I havent heard it yet lol) but right when the tracklist was out, I got a vibe that this album doesnt have that spectrum that m-u and NEXT LEVEL offers. It's more off an edgy, fierce album..kinda like GUILTY, just stronger and more lively. haha yes, I think i understand what you all mean now. R'n'RC is giving me GUILTY and MY STORY vibes more despite the variety it offers...i think many of us here have mentioned this before

(but dont u love the album itself? lol)

maikaru 8th April 2010 03:06 PM

I think I am one of the only people who really really loves meaning of Love, and I will rank it above Sexy Little Things and Lady Dynamite. ahahaha. I really love this album, I'm not a big fan of her vocals this time, but it's getting better. My favourite song has to be Microphone, I love how powerful this song is. My ranking of songs will go like this (and even though a song is 8 or 9, doesn't mean I think it sucks, just I like the other songs better. ahaha)

1. Microphone
2. Don't Look Back
3. meaning of Love
4. count down
5. Sunrise
6. Lady Dynamite
7. Sexy Little Things
8. You were...
9. Ballad
10. Last Links (I absolutely hate her vocals in this song, it sounds too much like Gackt)
11. Sunset

I can't rank Red Line because sometimes I really love this song, and sometimes I don't wanna listen... but I would put it high.

But yeah, the only track I hate is Last Links. Everyone says it's so great, but I hate her vocals, it makes me unable to listen to that song... :(

terra 8th April 2010 04:25 PM

I find the three interludes very weak compared to her previous ones like most of people here. The problem for me is that THE introduction and montage unable to do their job as an interlude of the two most strong tracks in the album.

I thought THE introduction would be like full Church Piano or Vampire Gothic like, but it's so far from it can't help to 'introduce' us to Microphone.

The same case goes for montage, even though it's cool having violins like that. I thought it would be more darker, but it sounded like a part of an Opera or Classical Musical performance with HAPPY ENDING costumes.

Jump! is not as strong but it's the opposite of the two previous ones, it served as an 'interlude' correctly.

ayu_ready? 8th April 2010 04:36 PM

this album is just not my vibe. I don't want to force myself to liking Ayustuff, I just must like it

so this album, I dislike. can't say OMG it's disaster I hate it, but I certainly do not like it
I like the PVs, but not the music

music sounds boring for me. I feel so indifferent to every song. I mean, I shouldn't be. Ayusongs always made me feel something...even some of latest releases which I may not liked much.

hmm, I can't say I'm dissapointed. the album is made on a good level, but the music is boring, blank, flat and just bad, imo. I don't like the style, the vibe, the music doesn't appeal to me at all

dunno if it's due to her voice that made her put songs with such a style into the album, or anything else, but I don't like the album at all

I think I do prefer "NEXT LEVEL" to it, sorry :D

The reason I love meaning of Love is because it reminds me so much of You were..., my favourite track, hah. :O

I feel that meaning of Love's vocals are much better, and of course, it's a newer song, so I got tired of You were... For me, meaning of Love is a better version of You were... ahaha. Also, I really love the lyrics of meaning of Love much better than You were, so that also gives it more points. ahaha

Aww man... The only album I've ever pre-ordered, and Ayu thinks it's her best...and people don't like it... Kinda depressing :(

Ah, well, there's got to be some people that love this album as much as me, right? (^_^);

As soon as I have time, I'll sit down and write my review on the album :yes It will be fun! :D

yeah this is what I mean. All the right songs are there, and all the album tracks are actually really strong. I just... don't think they all belong together on one album...

From everything I have heard so far (basically everything that's leaked), this is my new favorite Ayumi album, so you're not alone. Sheesh, I even like the interludes quite a bit.

I'm going to hold off any review writing until the entire album is out in 320.

primavera♥ 8th April 2010 10:12 PM

i think the way people say it isnt cohesive is correct. but thats what i like. it even moreso showcases the "Circus" side of the album. many a circus goes from one random thing to another although the different acts may still be good. i mean this isnt Cirque du Soleil here (which is quite interesting in itself) but just a circus. and rock n roll. well rock. plus the world of rock in roll is usually by western connotation a bit crazy hehe.

i find the album works fine for me when i think of it in that sense however. its random but i find everything to be very good myself overall. i loves it

anyway the first parts of what i said may not have made sense to anyone. i dont think anything i say ever does XD

milky_way 9th April 2010 01:18 AM

I can definitely say that the worst songs on the album are the singles, and I haven't even hear all the album songs yet :P

Max_ZZZ 9th April 2010 01:34 AM

THE introduction
i like it!! epic way to start off the album
Microphone
such a good song, was instantly a favourite
count down
upgrade guilty = the much better version of it was
Sunset ~LOVE is ALL~
this song needs to die. now. and it needs to leave quietly so the album can maintain it's dignity.
BALLAD
such a good song, sooo beautiful
Last Links
meh not really into it. was sad to come to a halt in my love for the album tracks. but it might grow on me, i don't see what the special beginning everyone was talking about is LOL
montage
i like it. it doesn't sound as much as an interlude as it does some theme song, but it's good that way because it evolves so much
Don't Look Back
amazing, another love at first hear
Lady Dynamite
i don't like it '-___- sounds terrible to me ugh what a stain on the album
Sexy Little Things
LOL SO CATCHY! i like it, it's very unique sounding
Sunrise ~LOVE is ALL~
i loved this song since time, glad it has a nice spot in the album
meaning of Love
Days+ MY ALL = such a good song, I love it
You were...
still an amazing ballad
RED LINE ~for TA~ (album version)
album version my rass
you singing by yourself at the end isn't a change LOL
well, ya mediocre song '-___- definitely an ending kind of song lol

overall... this album is a 8/10 for me. i like 8/12 songs on it a lot, if not for the interludes spicing up the album it would be 7/10 for me, but i'm happy the songs i like, are songs i LOOOVE. i'm so please =]

Picaflor 7/4 9th April 2010 02:30 AM

i'm apparently the only one who doesn't like don't look back. -_-;

jbrat2219 9th April 2010 03:55 AM

It seems like the reviews for this album are a little more mixed than before! None the less I know I like all of the songs with PVs and that's 8 of them so I doubt anything will make me hate this album :)

freedreamer 9th April 2010 04:53 AM

Seems like as long as an album is segmented well, the overall appeal to the audience would be better. just look at M-u and NEXT LEVEL versus say...GUILTY (dark then happy suddenly) and Secret...

milky_way 9th April 2010 05:29 AM

Am I the only one that doesn't care about the flow of the songs? I rarely listen to albums straight through and just listen to them on shuffle.

I'm so confused by what you mean here. XD I actually think GUILTY has really good flow, even with the suddenly happy glitter popping up. It just doesn't really feel out of place for me and it never has. And I think NEXT LEVEL has not so good flow, and it wasn't received well by AHS fans either (it's much more universally disliked than GUILTY, and it's second least favorite in general after ASFXX). While (miss)understood is totally beloved and has a really huge variety of songs with an okay flow...

It may not matter when listening to the songs, but when you're judging an ALBUM you have to judge it as an ALBUM not as "oh hey look at these songs"

Well..for me I thought m-u and NL had very clearly segmented sections. And comparing the sections of GUILTY, Secret, Rock'n'Roll Circus..they're about the same. And personally personally, when an album starts off darker, it gives a really cool feeling but not so much a complete feeling. LOl..just my sentiments. (and i love GUILTY)

what m-u and NL had in common was that the albums started off happy, then became slightly darker..then ended off on a happier tone again. but as for GUILTY, Secret and R'n'RC (which shud be the case), they start of dark and end happy. Not that there's a problem or coz but maybe to a listener, it lacks this wholesome feeling..if I may add, I think MY STORY gives me the latter vibe too...

but ultimately its all up to the person to feel for himself/herself anyway.

I am not thinking in that way. Consider if you shuffle this album in your mp3 player, when it randomizes the songs order as Red Line [Album Version] after Microphone, it sounds like Hi-bye (to me).

GRACE 9th April 2010 09:58 PM

I changed the tracklist in my iPod and I actually like the album a LOT more :D

Spoiler:

GRACE's Rock 'n' Roll Circus:
01. Jump!
02. Lady Dynamite
03. Sexy little things
04. Sunrise ~LOVE is ALL~
05. Sunset ~LOVE is ALL~
06. meaning of Love
07. BALLAD
08. Last Links
09. THE introduction
10. Don't look back
11. montage
12. Microphone
13. count down
14. You were...
15. RED LINE ~for TA~ (Album Version)

lumieregrl 9th April 2010 10:01 PM

^ Oh, that looks like it would sound better. I'm going to try it when the 320 is out. :yes

sitara 10th April 2010 12:56 AM

just listened to the whole album.
sadly, it didn't leave an all too great impression on me :( i do like little things here and there, but nothing got me OMG EXCITED :p

wth is this album called rock n' roll circus???
i cannot find any rock n' roll tunes except for microphone, and not really a circus theme except for one interlude and slt. in my mind she missed her target with this one, "pop circus" or "ballad circus" would still have been more accurate imo :p lol

it will grow on me i guess, but i NEXT LEVEL has been the most exciting ayu release for me in the last few years.

lumieregrl 10th April 2010 12:57 AM

I think the circus implies a mix, a variety of 'acts'.

well, it just sounds like any other of her albums. i don't really see any unusual variety of songs. booh.

i guess the theme will apply more to her tour.

Album is even more awsome in 320k! I don't know why people dont feel it as much as I am, Im like OMG <3 I loved NEXT LEVEL but this is OMG JESUS SAVE ME

That's exactly how I am LOL. I understand now why she's so proud of it and even calls it her best album.

AyUmIXx 10th April 2010 01:52 AM

OMG..so loving this album a lot..
i really love the pop rock acoustic on this album!!!
count down, Last Links, meaning of love kind of reminds me of Secret but more in a happy tone!
Lady Dynamite IS HOT! goshh this album totally wins it!!!!
the best album since Secret!
I really hope this album does sell well!!!
it's kind have the old material from her previous old albums!

zellyx 10th April 2010 01:56 AM

Fantastic album!!!!! :luv2 I really really really REALLY love it~! Can't wait to hear what the majority of AHS thinks!
Just listened to it 320k...
I'll be posting a song by song rating... eventually.
haha.

I believe this album will be sitting in my top 5 list by the end of the day. <3

ohsixthirty 10th April 2010 02:11 AM

haha, i know this is weird, but for some reason seeing the album in itunes at exactly an hour in length really excites me. :yes

the songs in 320kbps sound so much better. i'm hearing sounds here and there that i couldn't before!

RyRyMini 10th April 2010 02:15 AM

Like the album, still hate the title. I don't see how it fits at all.

I'm kind of disappointed with the interludes too T_T

sitara 10th April 2010 02:18 AM

the interludes are the weakest to date imo.
pity, for i love the majority of her intros and interludes, but this time around they're just flat and uninspired.

ohsixthirty 10th April 2010 02:19 AM

i actually like the interludes, except for jump. i don't care for it much at all.

i think next level had her best interludes ever. :yes

primavera♥ 10th April 2010 02:25 AM

^ everyone else seems to hate the interludes

Am I the only one who truly adores them all. Anything Orchestral is beautiful if u can make it work and montage did. THE Introduction truly did feel like a tour intro or something. it has a dark beauty which is my kind of thing. Jump! was really fun. i felt like i was in an arcade which works i think for the situation of the album lol.

I like them too! The weakest I think was THE introduction, but it wasn't bad. I absolutely LOVE Jump! to bits. It's one of my favorite interludes from her. montage is just gorgeous too. I don't get how one can call them uninspired. "uninspired" to me would be another LABYRINTH/Kaleidoscope/reBiRTH, these new interludes are completely fresh and different for her.

lumieregrl 10th April 2010 02:51 AM

I love the interludes too, they are different from what she has done in the past. :D

i agree with you on orchestral music! thats why i like the interludes, they're so grand and impressive.

also reminds me of my story classical! :yes

Larisa-chan 10th April 2010 03:13 AM

Okay.. listened to this album all the way through. I have to say I was underwhelmed. x.x I agree with whoever said this album was over-hyped (and I hate feeling like this!)

Too many boring ballads, and too many mediocre mid-tempo songs. It'll be interesting where this album places for me amongst her other albums.

Oh, I do love THE introduction and montage, though. <3

Best song: Microphone
Worst song: Meaning of Love (yeah, I'm starting to somewhat like Sexy Little Things, at least it gives the album some variety).

Picaflor 7/4 10th April 2010 03:30 AM

I'm amazed, this is a long album, 15 tracks, and not a single song is less than 4 minutes except the interludes which is expected. Not a single 3 minute song lol. all very long songs. I like that.

[taskin.ayu] 10th April 2010 03:39 AM

I love the interludes for this album, I found NEXT LEVEL disappointing.. this album is much better. :3 I especially love count down and Don't Look Back, awesome tracks. The two ballads after count down don't really feel necessary, they slow down the album too fast, but I guess they don't belong anywhere else. xD

rainydayumi 10th April 2010 11:01 AM

ok, i know this might not be important to most fo you, but i think its quite silly of the person who uploaded the dont look back PV to add the big surprise twist in the screencaps on the firs tpage. it makes people know what to expect. :(

joshohhhhh 10th April 2010 04:19 PM

i adored the interludes on this album. some of her best imo.

Seizuka 10th April 2010 06:06 PM

I like the new album so far. It's not as good as some of her older albums, but it's still listenable and so much better than the musical disaster "NEXT LEVEL" was. From the new songs I adore "Microphone", "Don't look back" and "Sexy little things" the most. The interludes are okay, nothing special, but I'd die for a full version of "montage".

At that rate, people would have to make it so they can't see any avatars or signatures either because people are using that 'twist' in graphics all the time. ;)

Last Links is soooooooooooooooooooooooooo (miss)understood'ish

I LOVE THIS SONG, i will listen to it forever i think xD

Picaflor 7/4 10th April 2010 09:58 PM

I am absolutely in love with Last Links, sort of sounds like that song by vertical horizons. everything you want, or something. Anyone else realize that it's very similar to happy ending? You can literally sing the lyrics of happy ending to last links and it'll almost match up. if we had official vocal tracks and instrumentals, it would make an amazing mashup!

PrincessAyu 10th April 2010 11:28 PM

I think this is possibly the worst album of Ayu ever. The tracks all sound bland. Last Links and Microphone are okay. The rest is like... what happened to "Ayu" ? I think she's gone.

primavera♥ 10th April 2010 11:48 PM

^ i only feel that this isnt our little lost ayu who for half her career was trying to find her way and for the other half was just being herself but her fun diva self. now "ayu" is changed or either showing a different side to herself

here i feel that ayu truly has taken a new step to change herself. even looking at the lyrical content of the album i see something different. i see her truly expressing herself on the concept of her ear, and how she feels about her career. i see these great feelings of love. even this sort of overall theme is quite different for her. the style of songs like Sexy Little Things and etc are different too. She really has simply grown up and is there and has found a good way to express herself in this album. ^___^ I think understanding her message in Don't Look Back is important here in her sort of stepping away from her past . . .and the thing is. u can see she really is trying.

Not at all. It was rather obvious to me that Don't Look Back was one of the weakest tracks on the album so I was really surprised that so many people here are shitting their pants over it. I went and listened to it a few more times to see if I missed anything but I'm afraid I just don't get it.

AyUta 11th April 2010 04:54 AM

The only tracks I really do not care for are the intro and meaning of love.

babamon 11th April 2010 05:10 AM

I don't really like Don't look back and sexy little things in the first place. But those songs are growing on me. The longer i listen to the album the greater i think it is :)

untitledforayu 11th April 2010 05:36 AM

Yes ok, I agree Ayu has changed and all. I mean, she can't keep singing about being a lonely, confused teenager/ young woman anymore, because...she's not.

But this doesn't excuse her from making bland, mediocre music!!!
So BALLAD is beautiful, Don't look back is fun, Microphone is cool and Sexy little things is good when I'm in the mood...but surely Ayu hasn't changed into a person so devoid of personality as the rest of R'n'R C!!

Luckily ASFXX sounds so dated and has terrible vocals, so I can say that, in my opinion at least, R'n'R C is her 2nd worst album :(

I know she's changed, I know she's expressing herself and I know the importance of Don't Look Back, but I still feel this is her worst album up to date. I wish it wasn't, but to me it is. I was really hopeful for the album after Microphone, though. It always seems like I'm the only one who expresses dislike for Ayu. And it always goes down the drain here with everyone always saying how great Ayu's newest single/album is. While being a fan, expressing dislike is a rightful thing to do as well imo.

wonder why so many people here love "don't look back". good for ayu, i guess :)
video was interestig, but i find that song reaaallly bad.

^ i love don't look back. i think its the whole arabic/indian tinge to it but also for me... LOL i LOVE how she says "damase nai" it just makes me go all EEEEEEEEEE

gosh the more i listen to this album, the more i fall in love with it ♥ ♥ i absolutely adore every album track

jean-baptiste 11th April 2010 07:44 PM

am i the only one who's waiting for the non-single/non-PV tracks to grown on them?

like, i liked count down, Last Links, and meaning of Love but it didn't leave a strong impression and i don't even remember what they sound like. and i feel like skipping them when they come up. =\

but i know they'll grow on me. hopefully soon though...

on a brighter note, the rest of the album is absolutely awesome!!!

kotora 13th April 2010 01:47 AM

Can I put MOON in this thread as well since it is a bonus preview track?

MOON is like Last Links. Although it is very LQ, I like it because it's like Last Links, and I love Last Links so much.

freedreamer 13th April 2010 04:43 AM

^It could have been placed before or After Last links imo...but then there'll be too many medium ballads...and both of them really have a similar vibe and tune

GRACE 13th April 2010 04:50 AM

or she could have replaced Sunset with MOON :D I'd have been ALL for that.

joshohhhhh 13th April 2010 04:53 AM

they should have definitely put MOON on the album.

I heard the same thing! Yes, I thought it was weird why Last Links only right side of my earbuds works.

count down (deafness of her left ear) and Last Links (her right ears is the only ear function well and the last link ...)

It is a plausible thought!.

Piccolo 13th April 2010 05:45 AM

I've listened to the album a couple of times, and it's decent, few okay tracks, but it doesn't stand out at all to me.

Amen! :yes

Like I've mentioned in another thread, MOON reminds me of Pierrot's Shingetsu! I would love it if Ayu drew her music inspiration from V-Kei! Somehow I think that's a realm she still has yet to explore. And it runs ramped in her own country! Get with it Ayu. :laugh

chocopockymaster 13th April 2010 06:26 AM

I'm going through and listening to my copy right now....oh man, maybe I was just spoiled by going to see the concert twice, but I feel like the production on Last Links and count down (that's the farthest I've gotten in the album) is really, REALLY bad. They sound so hollow to me. :(

Kinglopi 13th April 2010 06:41 AM

Just got my limited edition boxset from amazon.jp but feel very sad i does not come with the poster and the box also quite big.

Ouch... but her live arrangements usually are a step up from the originals, I think, right?

I think this happened with most Sunrise performances that were done in concert, anyway.

(Maybe when the DVD comes out, you could do a live rip sort of thing, heehee~)

SURREAL__RAINBOW 13th April 2010 06:58 AM

it always happens i think... live is so much better most of the time xD

for example, im in love with speechless by lady gaga now, after seeing her live wow, just wow

(damn Avex's tricky marketing :( LOL )

Aditmi Krisnasaki ~II~ 13th April 2010 09:01 AM

^ MOON is waayyyy better than Last Links IMO~ :D

freedreamer 13th April 2010 09:04 AM

just heard MOON again..and it suddenly gave me a "Moments" vibe O.O

and im trying so hard not to get count down and Last Links' chorus mixed up hahah

Tony G 13th April 2010 10:12 AM

MOON sounds nothing like Last Links -__-

It could fit on the album, but it couldn't take the place of Last Links.

and don't look back is so much more than "another arabic/oriental sounding song" There's so much more to the composition that people are missing. And its the combination of the instrumentals, the lyrics and the PV that make that song epic win for me.

Not~Yet 13th April 2010 01:28 PM

^I totally agree. The athmosphere captured in DLB (both song and PV) is just perfect. Oh and aside other instrumentals I really, really love the loud beat. That song is definitely very well thought and executed, from non-biased POV, I think.

Tony G 13th April 2010 01:29 PM

I agree, the beat MAKES the song. its so awesome-ly executed.

kendelle 13th April 2010 03:32 PM

I just listened to the album for the first time to bring on the release day xD

My highlight tracks: Last Links, Lady Dynamite, sexy little things, Microphone, the meaning of Love, BALLAD, Don't look back. THE introduction was pretty epic too though.

I really feel like this album will become like her new MY STORY. I said it in the album thread but I'll said it again...the lyrics and epic feeling of the songs just give it the feeling of her new benchmark album. I think NL really was the beginning of a "new" Ayu :yes
