there's always a visual, a youngest member (maknae), a rapper, vocal, second vocal and a leader. leader is the one who's responsible for the group as a whole, to cheer them, to get them in the mood, like, to be a school president in class, as to say.
they appoint the visual to appeal to masses, and leader does a sort of control behind the scenes. the leader, ideally, should have a character and a persona to stand-out, not necessarily the beauty.

CL is the leader and she fitted until she got the star disease and some trash into her head.
Dara was the visual, btw, then she was kinda appointed the PR-director, as she said herself, to promote the group on variety shows and social media.
CEO picks every position, and sometimes they appoint one leader, but then change it to another person (rarely). |
