I never saw a case like this before. Yes, there were idols who retired but Namie basically gave up everything to be a regular person. She did not even leave her website be. i donÄt know if there are even rights around now.

Good point. And Avex would never pass up an opportunity to make a few bucks. (Win-win situation for everyone). Will it be affordable...that’s a different question. I never bought Ayu’s PV collection because it’s super expensive.

Not only that , even if avex wants to release an ultimate Namie collection of her entire discography , it might not happen . Namie might still step in some capacity to say no

That & also I can't imagine how much it will be

When B'z celebrated their 30th anniversary last year , Being in 2017 put out 2 different singles box collections of B'z and they weren't cheap . They were selling for 59,400 Yen & 75,600 Yen respectively :dead2

Namie could step in, but it depends who owns the rights to the recordings. If Avex owns the rights, she can’t stop them from releasing the products.

pedronekoi 7th May 2019 05:25 AM

Didn't she created her own label so she can have full rights of her songs or something like that?

It’s possible. I’m not sure what the agreement is, but usually it’s the record label and/or the writer(s) that have the rights, not the artist. Although there are exceptions. It just depends on the legal ownership and how it’s written in the paperwork. Generally speaking, record label will finance your record in return for the rights, because whoever owns the legal rights is the entity getting the royalties. The label contract usually offers the artist a very small percentage of the returns once the recording has been paid off. If you sell millions, that small percentage can equal a lot of money. But a contract is something you negotiate, so it’s certainly possible that Namie was able construct one in her favor.

thinkingoutloud89 7th May 2019 12:43 PM

I believe up until the most recent things the rights to the original recordings belong to avex, whereas she got the rights to the songs themselves.

I think this is a really special case tho. She requested to be left alone and I can see the Japanese public respect that - and even her management. I don't think if they will release anything else.

AJFmzk 7th May 2019 01:18 PM

^it certainly is possible. But labels release stuff after bands break up or artists die. Again it depends on who has the rights to it, but Japan is a different culture so they may respect her wishes enough to hold off.

roddypii 8th May 2019 07:23 PM

Or maybe Namie just own the rights of the songs she re-released and Avex has the rights of everything else...?
Then they could release another ALL TIME BEST with all the other singles that weren't on Finally. I'm all for a best that includes ALARM, Do Me More, WILD, Beautiful and etc haha

That's totally possible. Remember the rumors going around about Finally? Some people were speculating they changed up the arrangement in most of the songs because they didn't have the rights to the original versions. I'm not sure if I believe that, since Dimension Point, I believe, is Namie's label but it's still under Avex. But yeah, I'm totally with you on another best album. I'd love some new/darker versions (like Finally's Dr./Finally tour's Do me More) of her lesser known/performed songs such as Love 2000, Speed Star and like all of Love Enhanced :p) It's not likely for her to do anymore recording now though I guess they can just get producers to create new arrangements and use her old vocal tracks...

I'm really hoping they release more concert DVDs though. I really want to see what she was doing in 2002 and that one time she had Nao'ymt as a special guest and they sang Ups&Downs...I really want to see that!

The japanese label of SNSD re-released their best 2 times then they switched labels and re-released the best AGAIN

Mai Kuraki's label released 1 original album and 2 bests around the success of her single "Togetsukyou ~Kimi Omofu~" (2018)

Still Mika Nakashima's label is doing good work re-releasing random bests like crazy and selling pretty decently for 2019

Also AI's label released 2 new bests around the success of her best album THE BEST AI

I really want to know why Avex the marketing monster is not doing the same with Finally's success

thinkingoutloud89 16th May 2019 11:14 AM

^I really think it it's due to the restrictions Namie gave them. Dimension point bought most of the rights she had I think.
I also don't really know if the Japanese would eat it up. There is a certain feel to Finally which, at least I think, would be tainted.

AJFmzk 20th May 2019 06:39 AM

^ Now I've been thinking more on it, you could be correct, maybe Namie/DP did buy back the rights and gave strict orders to leave her legacy alone.

More importantly, I was able to find the full broadcast of Amuro Namie So Crazy Tour in Seoul 2004 in good quality for download here: https://wespai.com/namie/?p=2162

Random, but on the K-Pop side of things, the idol making show "Produce X 101" used the instrumental for NAKED in their first episode lol.

It's used around the 18 minute mark in the episode as the background music for model-idols strutting in :laugh

Another random Namie incident in that among the guitar instrumental songs played at last Fri's you've guitar a friend vol.3 was BODY FEEL EXIT

Finally!!! (pun unintended) lol I am looking forward to the live recordings especially. I wonder if there is a chance they might upload some hi-res versions of her albums on mora or something. I know it's not much of a demand, but I would sure love it!

Ryusei 15th June 2019 12:04 AM

Her whole discography or just Finally? Cause I've been waiting for this. I wish Sony would finally put their artists on streaming too, kana has like 2 best albums and 2 singles on there Miliyah has random stuff on there... ah japan...
