Being sexy and in control ( as being sexy for someone else) is part of being a independent and powerful woman.

This a women power song. That's why it's titled my name's WOMEN. (stands up for all women, and speaks to fact that women are each different and each can have different sides to them).

The title isn't engrish, it's poetic and powerful.

In fact, do you guys know that the PV isn't that short for 6 minutes.
It is a 9-minute one! Some parts of it are not yet published

o_O i was hoping she would never dance like the other 2 dancers, they were also from the "Real Me" PV... scary sometimes :thud

You guys, those two dancers are part of the group TRF. They have appeared on "Ayu Ready?" before and have even accompanied Ayumi on stage during one of her concerts.

I think it's like.. 'HEY! YOU! even though I am shy, nerdy, not overly outgoing, not all dressed up like the others.. .. but maybe that's just me. I really like this PV, I really do like the sexier side of Ayu, although yes the nerdy/cute Ayu is adorable.. I like seeing a sexier side of her too. ^_^

Exactly exactly. At first I was very much like... "wtf...!?" But by the end of it I was impressed. Women standing on their own terms and being able to stand up to men like they should be. I'm not how sure I am about showing it to people who don't know the lyrics, but as a whole I thought it was a good PV. You really need to know the song to understand the message presented.

Raleigh 20th April 2005 09:36 PM

It was an interesting PV. As mentioned before it is indeed about the power of women to stand up for themselves and the idea that they are not bought easily by men with material things and pretty words. It also portrays independence and in my opinion it shows how a woman can get any guy at her feet if she plays the hard to get and is attractive enough. However is being attractive that important? Maybe she wants to show the superficiality of some men. While that guy was probably thinking of the nerdy Ayu as ugly and unattractive he was rather attracted to the sexier Ayu.

Those men seemed to be there to please women in exchange of money. I am not sure about this. But in this mv it was as if Ayu was showing them they do not need the affections of men and that they can stand up for their own and the women in the restaurants were getting to like the idea as we see.

Anyhow that's my interpretation ^^; Might be wrong of course.

i think it was cool. really good pv imo. the music and lyrics matched and I think the TRF dancers did a good job too~

a friend tell me that in japan women's right is not equal to men's... so men still have the feeling "women are weaker"... iun this pv ayu tries to show.. what women can do... In japan they say women doesnt have right to choose man... man should choose women... so ayu tries to change that opinion by showing it in a story pv... *thats what my friends who studies japan literature said* in the end of the pv... the women in the bar begin to stand... that means she wants women to be strong... ^^

~K+ 21st April 2005 05:44 AM

The only good thing about it is she actually decided to wear a normal amount of eye make-up for the first time on screen in years.

Thats very true, even till this day women's rights in Japan are not close to being equal to men. We may think it is on the social level but as you go up the hierarchy you will start to see the differences (which I will not get into).

I enjoyed the video alot but I think it should be renamed "my name's S&M" cause of all the leather and whips. I like the D&S [Dominance (women) & Submission (men)] the video shows because this clearly shows women can be as dominating as men and men can also be submissive to women (like the part where one of the male dancers thought we would get to kiss Ayumi). Great video overall! *5 STARS*

*hearT_Place* 21st April 2005 07:45 AM

I just did a paper on women's roles in Japan. I thought it was interesting because it's not as black and white as we Americans tend to think it is. But yes, there are problems in Japan because the gender roles are so strictly defined and both sexes tend to think they are superior to the other (i.e. women think they are better than men and men think they are better than women...in general). I don't know about the "woman not having a right to choose a man" way of thinking, because today, lots of women aren't choosing one at all, so that implies choice, and arranged marriages aren't nearly as big as they were before World War II. I have a couple articles on the subject if anyone's interested in reading them.

Moving on, I just realized something about this PV. It's kind of similar to STEP you in that I think at least a small part of her message is that she's not just one thing. She's not JUST a "nerd" and she's not JUST "sexy". she's herself, and she doesn't fit any one stereotype. That's really cool:)

ramblings from someone who needs to go to bed

Okay, here’s a thought. I’ve been wondering and wondering: “Why on earth is she using male prostitutes?” Doesn’t that just make the women take the men’s place as the entertainment to be looked at like pieces of meat at the end? Then I wondered about a backstory to this PV.
The women that come there all dressed up (like “dolls”) are probably trying to do what they can to be “women”, to get the attention they desire, all the time, whether they’re in that club or not. Maybe Ayu’s character doesn’t normally do that. But, what if Ayu’s character thought she wanted that attention, came to the club, and saw how they were toying with the women, and then realized how wrong it was, stormed the club, etc etc.
The line:
"Though it's certain
I have a pain in my chest on some nights"
seems to suggest that because she isn’t being a “doll”, a lot of guys are not paying attention to her, and so she gets lonely sometimes. Maybe that loneliness caused her to come to that club in the first place. But then maybe she realized that a guys attention isn’t worth giving up yourself and being toyed with, which is why, when she’s singing the song, she utterly rejects any advances made by the guys, even at the end when "the guy that looks like ayu" is looking specifically for her. What do you guys think?

Exactly, very true. I don't think shy ayu was rejected by the guy because he actually goes towards her and touches her hair. The man didn't find her ugly at all, he even tried to interact with her but she didn't feel well. The fact is, she probably felt pressed and was pressed by her friends to be at that place at first place. The other observation is that the girls there probably feel they're being independent just because they went to a girls club. They think they're strong just because the guys there are working as entertainment for them. However in the end they are actually getting submitted, as they don't feel safe enough to get in a relationship with a real man and resort to such things. Shy ayu ends ups showing that women doesn't need to submit to that sort of situation and that no matter how shy they are they can gather strength to put any man under their feet.

Of course this video is pretty utopic as men are and will always be stronger than women *jokes all around* ahahahha :laugh :laugh (reminds that I actually get submitted to this woman called ayumi hamasaki, getting excited with every new thing she releases LOL, isn't that sort of contracditory? :roflmao) (and of course I'm just kidding in this paragraph so no need for girls to show their whips ok? :D )

I totally loved this video. I think it was well written and well shot. There's always a meaning behind all her videos. This one is no exception.

Humm interesting analyzes
However I think you got something mixed up
The AYUMAN (the one who gets thrown..as I will refer to him now) isnt the one that touches her hair. The one that touches her hair is the other dancer, and she is shy, but you can tell that she is flattered. But when AYUMAN doesnt pay attention to her and just leaves she gets upset, and she leaves. Thats when she transforms into SEXY AYU and completly owns him.

ruixiong89 22nd April 2005 09:10 AM

I loved the PV too! Initially I thought it was all just sexual and I was like, it's such a distainful PV. However, after watching it for a lot more times, yar, I think Ayu alludes to the sexual theme not in a negative way. I'm sure she didn't had the intention of trying to sell herself off like a sex bombshell or anything, but this sexuality transcends the common perception of its relation with sex appeal but as an embodiment of independence, allure and power.

my name's WOMEN, gosh, I really think it's a great PV, I mean it's a bit long, but the interpretations suit the song lyrics and I think it's great that all the girls bring back something with them. Yar, they pay to feel "independent" by toying with guys, but I think they realise that at the end of the day, no one wants to feel cheated, no one wants to go back into reality knowing that they will once more be surpressed. The key thing here is woman power! I mean I don't necessary mean Ayu's a feminist, but I'm sure that the PV can add onto the impression that women should start speaking up for themselves and they are not merely objects of admiration and affection.

Yup, Ayu does a very good sum up in this PV and I'm impressed with what she has done! She took a risk with this PV and I think it came out fine! However, I sure hope Ayu tries out something new too, she's been on this "woman power" thing for sometime, just that she doesn't show it as explicitly as in my name's WOMEN. Yup, 3 cheers for Ayu and the director!

The one I watched is 8 minutes 41 seconds long.

i think the nerd ayu... i mean... she actually get teased by the man... but she doesnt feel comfortable... I see the nerd ayu is the woman who has their pride... they dont want to be chose by the men... coz they have their own strength... thats why ayu then goes back n the songs begin... i mean... the nerd ayu shows she doesnt want to be treated like that... coz her name is WOMEN ^^ hehehehe.... n at the end when ayu leaves means... "its not men who can dump women... women also can dump men" ^^ coz she wants an equality ^^ *my friends tells me that its forbidden also for a women to show her love to men... men should choose women n thereby women cant do nothing but only be chosed... >.<*

EDIT: I love the nerd ayu glasses... I have bought 1 hehehehe ^^
