Even if she dropped out she could have still finished school. In NYC she could have been home-schooled there or even in Japan. Maybe she when she was living in NYC she got Vocal training in the day and went to Night School at night.

Somehow I would highly doubt that. :)

Ayu was a drop out, plain and simple. I don't have a problem with it at all. It obviously worked out for her in the end.

Her first TV show credit is from 1992, so she was already living in Tokyo on her own then and had dropped out of the formal schooling system. She did go to a special performing arts high school for a while in Tokyo if I am remembering correctly, but she went very sporadically and dropped out soon after. So for all intents and purposes, her schooling doesn't look like it went much beyond middle school.

That still doesn't mean anything. She could have even gotten her GED in new york

I'm going to go with Sunshine in saying that it's highly doubtful Ayumi completed her education. In the last Music Station special, she said she'd probably be a floater if she weren't a singer (probably because of the lack of a diploma/degree). And even if she were to continue her school related studies, it's even more unlikely she would've continued them in New York.

How exactly would she have done that? Last I checked she isn't fluent in English and a GED has no relevence in Japan. Also, Avex only paid for her dancing and singing lessons - they wouldn't have paid for her to go to school and she wouldn't have been able to pay for it herself since she herself has said that she didn't even have money to take cabs. School would have had to be paid for since it would have to be some kind of private tutor (who speaks Japanese) because you can't just go and enroll in the NYC public school system if you feel like it. And she by her own admission didn't like or see the point in her going to school, so why would she even want to finish? It was her decision to drop out to begin with. :)
