probably because utada doesn't release on a schedulized basis and every now and then, more like unexpected releases.

Yeah, I think she has a broader audience. I think Ayu's is only the younger generation (as in teens that grew up listening to her when she was at her peak and younger)

Possibly because she's a successful Japanese-American? Or maybe the fact that she hasn't released an album in four years? Who knows really... just a guess. (Does anyone know if EXODUS went Platinum in Japan?)

But yeah I was scared Ayu was going to drop like after the first day... but she's still holding #1. There wasn't much change in the chart today, which was surprising. I was happy to see Shimatani go up even though I haven't been into anything of hers post "Heart & Symphony".

Platinum according to the US (1m) or Platinum according to Japan (250,000)? I think it was 1 rank above or below 'Memorial address' in the yearly rankings. But I know for sure it past 1m.

A very very very big audience. It seems like everyone in Japan listens to her songs. Just randomly dial up some Japanese phone number and say "Utada?" and I bet they'd reply something positive.

Nice! As expected of Ayu....NO.1 !!! But I don't quite get it, what does it mean by "Ultra Blue-Utada Hikaru" is also NO.1 as of 23/7 ? ~_~ ..To me it seems like there is 2 NO.1 ? Sorry..can someone explain XD....Thanks!

Ultra blue is #1 in the albums-chart
