I was interested to see that there were some differences in the songs lyrics when compared to the Japanese original, I also wanted to let people understand how this song would sound to Chinese people.

So I translated it. Follow the link for my side by side translations.


I made two translations, the first is a song translation, where I have tried to translate the song as it is sung, making sure the word order and rhythm is not messed up too much. The timing is good enough that you can use these English lyrics to actually sing with.

The second one is a pure translation, where I tried to find the English that best captured the meaning of each line, without worrying about word order or rhythm.

I would like to hear suggestions on any changes I could make.
If you think I have misinterpreted or mistranslated please let me know.

I'm no master of Chinese by any means, but I think I can understand what people were talking about when saying it's "mispronunced" at some parts. But I still say GOOD JOB AYU, this version is beautiful :D

I don't think it flows well too since I am just direct translating the meaning without refining it. Let me try to think of ways to improve on my translation but for the moment, this will be it.

Not a bad job on Ayu's part for her first time singing a full Chinese (Mandarin) song. I am very proud of her attempt!

Interesting. I like it, though I hope, as jon_the_d has stated, she doesn't think it is perfect and quits working on it. :)

The last verse is what she sung in Chinese in HK last year as well! But last year those lyrics were like this:

从今天到永远 听到我的歌声
送到你们心中 这是我的愿望
从今天到永远 听到我的歌声
送到你们心中 我的愿望

So (for those of you who don't know chinese) the version from last year is using simpler words, and the official version is a bit more formal and wordy, and sounds a bit more like poetry. The meaning is basically the same though.

Her pronunciation is not great, it comes out mangled most of the time, but Mandarin is not really an easy language to speak, especially since it was sung kinda fast-paced and I think that's where the mangling comes from.

But vocally, I think it's better than the japanese version.
