We don't know a future of all korean artists who are under SM and avex. Including BoA...

Any Korean artist who is releasing in Japan under Avex has a contract in place. Avex selling their shares won't change that. What we should be interested in is what happens when those contracts expire.

In BoA's case, the only reason they wouldn't renew her contract is if she's costing them more money than she's worth - which I am honestly a little confused about since it doesn't seem like they're spending much money on her anyway since she hasn't done much promotion since, what, THE FACE? :P

Basically, I think she'll be fine, even with her current sales, if Avex isn't losing money on her.

Polyrhythm 25th February 2010 11:27 PM

I guess BoA likes to flop. First deciding to self produce Identicrap and returning to the US now for another embarrassment....oh well....she's made all the cash in the world already....guess she can do what she pleases.

Tom Punks 26th February 2010 12:04 AM

^ BoA sort of doesn't get to do what she wants 90% of the time anyways so it's not her fault she's flopping...

Brodie Boy 26th February 2010 12:16 AM

I think she should slow down or cut off one country on her list so she can perform with the energy she used to and she can work on her music in one of her 3 languages better. I mean maybe Identity was rushed so they can hurry and make another American album... :(

jean-baptiste 26th February 2010 02:26 AM

wow another american album? i'll admit i liked the first one, but it wasn't a success. =\ if she's really coming back to the U.S. so soon, i'm gonna feel like buying 5 copies of the album just cause i'll feel so bad it won't sell. >_<

also, i don't mean to sound angry or like i'm attacking in anyway, but i'm honestly curious. to the one's who think IDENTITY completely sucks, what's the reason? i think it's one of her weakest albums compared to her past ones, but i really don't find it disgustingly horrible to the point that i can't even listen to it. i've already heard that it sounds unfinished, are there anymore reasons? or maybe someone can elaborate on how it sounds unfinished?

again, i'm only curious to hear what others think.

Polyrhythm 26th February 2010 02:33 AM

Well if you are a fan of BoA's older stuff....the quality of IDENTITY is just a slap in the face. The whole album...minus 2-3 songs....is a complete bore...the tracks are generic and bland....and just look at the interludes. Tell me they spent countless hours toiling and plan over how to put together the album....how to make it cohesive...how to market it successfully....there's just no effort. Is it the WORST album of the year? Most likely not...but from where BoA stood before...it's a pretty embarrassing fall.

zyoeru 26th February 2010 02:37 AM

Yes. This album is really rubbish. I hope her American album will be far better, but I'm not holding my breath.

TITANIC 26th February 2010 02:59 AM

Its ok for the starter to compose her own album. its not that bad. shes just an amateur composer but comparing her old songs IDENTITY is totally horrible

AyUta 26th February 2010 04:46 AM

I hope her second American album does well....:(.

Polyrhythm 26th February 2010 05:14 AM

I hope she doesn't have a second American album cause if she goes that way...theres a 120% chance it will flop...and she aint coming back.....her career will be done for. The next Nami Tamaki or Hitomi Shimatani...so much talent gone to waste. It's not hard for her to make a comeback from the horribleness that is IDENTITY and she should focus on doing so.

visionfactory 26th February 2010 05:29 AM

I do think that if she releases a 2nd album it's gonna sell better than the 1st one because she is little by little doing better and better on the radio charts, right? :think She just has to put a lot of effort (and money) in it :D

Yeah.....you might not have noticed.....but theyre kinda short on that right now....especially with BoA. The first one flopped so hard its hard not to sell more.

I don't know why people are acting like IDENTITY is the worst thing ever when it's likely to be a milestone in BoA's career.

I'll admit that I was taken aback when I first heard the album because of how different it sounds compared to her previous work, but now that I've had it for a while, I actually find myself listening to it more than her other albums because of how much more mature it sounds.

I can only wish that more JPop stars would take such a big risk and redefine themselves rather than sticking with what works and what's expected of them.

Just saw this post, how is it different from her previous work, and an even bigger question I have, how does anything on the album sound mature? I don't think anything on the album sounds particularly different than other stuff she has released. Quite a few of the songs reminded me of songs from her Korean albums, only more boring. Well, I guess I could see "LAZER" being a little different for a BoA song, but that's it.

That's probably the chandelier in Max's multimillion dollar home lol. Then again, I don't even think they'd put that much effort into her anymore. Maybe they googled the image x_x.

IDENTITY is different from BoA's previous albums because for the first time she is significantly involved with the production. BoA is credited as co-producer for the album and out of 11 songs, she has made substantial contributions to 6 of them (lyrics and music for 4; lyrics for 2).

And, to me, the album sounds mature because of the decisions made to place emphasis on the lyrics. The "boring" production of the melodies and arrangements has the effect of drawing attention to the lyrics and what they have to say.

With the album being titled "IDENTITY" and BoA as co-producer I think it's safe to assume that the focus of the album is herself and not some loose concept, therefore she wants her message to be understood. If a song is overproduced, it could distract the listener and the message has a greater chance of being lost or diluted.

I think people who don't understand the Japanese language are at a disadvantage when listening to this album because they're only getting half the message. It was only after I started searching out translations of the lyrics that I felt I understood what BoA was trying to do.
