Hirai Ken's new single "Kimi no Kodou wa Kimi ni Shika Narasenai" will be released on August 5th.

The title track of Hirai's 38th single is a medium-tempo ballad that was written as the theme song for the TBS drama 'Napoleon no Mura' premiering on July 19th. This is the first time the singer has written and composed his single's title track in about 3 years. The last one was "Kokuhaku" which was released back in May of 2012.

The single will be available for purchase in both limited and regular editions. As the coupling tracks, the regular edition will contain an edgy new song called "Ai ni Kodaware" and a tofubeats remix of "Soredemo Shitai". It will also include a mix track called "Ken Hirai 20th Anniversary Mega Mix Vol.1" lasting for over 10-minutes.

you know, i never could get into Ken Hirai, but i just LOOOOOOVVVE Grotesque. Might try other singles like him because of it. can anyone suggest anything that is similar to that song?

Ken does have really great songs . Grotesque was a nice surprise & let alone it was his 1st collaboration single too

He don't have that much R&B upbeat tunes as R&B ballads are more his forte though . His more upbeat songs that I like include KISS OF LIFE & Strawberry Sex

It's his ballad singles that shines a lot the most imo . Aside from Hitomi wo Tojite which's his most prominent ballad single , I also like LAKuEN , Missin' you ~It will break my heart~ (composed by Babyface) , Elegy & Kimi no Suki na Toko . His most recent mid tempo single that I liked was 2012's Kokuhaku which he wrote & composed

Yeah, Grotesque is a very unique song in his discog (haven't heard everything yet, but I'm getting there lol).

I recommend listening to his "Ken Hirai Singles Collection 1995-2005 - Utabaka". His earlier genres were more funk and r'n'b as opposed to pop. I absolutely love it!

Ken Hirai shot his last video for “SOREMOSHITAI” in India. He created a buzz by dancing among a crowd of Indians. This time he partakes in ballroom dance and contemporary dance with an elderly woman. It conveys warmth as well as an appreciation for life.

Hirai was involved in the auditions for his dance partner. He chose Emiko Takizawa (74) who was closest to whom he imagined. They only had one week between the moment he selected his partner and the video shoot. They rehearsed the choreography all day, starting two days before the shoot.

“This is a medium tempo ballad. My music videos for ballads usually involve me singing longingly, but I wanted to break away from that pattern this time. I wanted to challenge myself to ballroom dance and contemporary dance, which I am not very good at. By dancing with an elderly woman, I wanted to convey, “As long as we are alive, we can be festive.” I’ve done many things like dress up in Indian attire, but this was completely opposite and felt more like a medieval painting. I have to agree with Karen. If she were to only edit her posts there's a chance the thread would be harder to find. Plus, I don't think an edited post makes the thread "bolded" in the forum as if it were updated (don't know if you catch my drift). So I think it's better with the excessive posting. Unless a mod thinks otherwise, of course.

If I post in Ken's thread (and other non active threads) every single hour , then I can understand if I post excessively but it's different if I'm literally the only 1 that's posting in certain particular threads

And believe me , being the only person posting in particular threads is not fun . It means that either nobody's interested in the artiste I like and/or people just can't be bothered to read on what I post

For me , if I were to post something , I will do so every few hours (sometimes 1 during day time , 1 during night time) if not once per day depending if Ken's thread is active with news updates on him or not

It's not easy to find updated news on Ken online , even up to now . I did that before , it was & is still hard

And unlike other artistes , Ken doesn't do social media . Only his staff & fanclub staff occasionally post updates on him (mainly music related) but aside from that zilch

I think it's nice of Karen to keep this thread active despite the clear lack of activity out here. So if someday, someone was to visit this thread, they would find all of the latest Hirai Ken news and information easily.
Plus, as already mentioned, the thread wouldn't be easy to find if there's something new in Hirai Ken's career.

And I just checked , KEN HIRAI TV Vol.3 「20th Anniversary Special Long Interview -前篇-」is almost close to 36 minutes long o_O

It's a good or bad thing since the B-sides in the single are only made available in the CD only (excluding the instrumental of the A-side which's only included in the CD + DVD edition)

This could very well be so. Are you one to usually purchase Taiwan editions? I pretty much always buy Japanese editions so something like this wouldn't effect me much.

yes because Taiwan edition of anything is always much cheaper for me to afford . Let alone , DVD region code for Taiwan is the same as Singapore

Like for Ken's last album JAPANESE SINGER , I bought the Taiwan press even though Sony BMG Taiwan didn't made both CD + DVD editions but it's ok as Ken rarely has really good/entertaining PVs :x

And it's quite hilarious Ken kept using the words 歌バカ (1st was incorporating it in the tite for his 1st best album followed by his 1st B-side best album) cos he's so not LOL

歌バカ二十年 will be released as a 2 book set . The 1st book will be an archive of all interviews from 1995 until this year that were featured in magazines such as WHAT's IN? , GB , PATi・PATi & BREaTH

The 2nd book will be 150 pages worth of new photos & a long interview tracing Ken's career from 1995 until this year

I guess that promo picture which was released yesterday is taken from the 2nd book

OMG that sounds amazing! Even though I can't read Japanese, I might consider getting this.

Just watched Ken's performance on 2015 FNS Kayousai

He did a medley of POP STAR & Kokuhaku

I was so surprised he did Kokuhaku as I thought Ken might do even if and/or KISS OF LIFE but I don't mind Kokuhaku as it's a great song

I didn't know Kokuhaku was really popular when it was released :O

Outfit wise , Ken was wearing a black poncho ish outfit which he looked so weird but as always vocals wise , he's always on point

And when he sang POP STAR , 2 of his mascots from the POP STAR PV came out and danced with him :roflmao :roflmao :roflmao

And surprised to see fake star on the setlist as I remembered at that time when that was released , it had quite a lot of backlash as the PV was really tacky

That was before CANDY was released but I like fake star as it was very different from Ken's usual works but just not the PV as it was so uncomfortable for me to watch :x

All the while from the very beginning Ken always has been bombard with questions on his looks as he doesn't look like a typical Japanese
