No Fantasy was classified as an album because it had eight *ORIGINAL* tracks.
For example ~The Monster~ single had 8 tracks as well but was counted a single because it only had four *original* tracks, the other four tracks were Instrumentals therefore not original songs.

There's really no reason to...although imo I think she's calling it that so that she can do more things with it, and hype it more.

Remixes, interludes, bonus tracks and instrumentals aren't real tracks to count in that "25 minutes or 4 tracks" thing. You can add how much remixes that you want and it still a single, since only the main content counts.
Kumi's FREAKY has 12 tracks (54 min total) and still a single, 3 SPLASH has 10 tracks (almost 29 min total) and also still a single... Right now what classifies a mini album or a maxi single is what the label / artist want, and not some rule.

The celebration this time is pretty cool, I didn't like the A COMPLETE thing that she did in her 10th Anniversary.

The only thing that changes is the price and how much you want to promote, since singers usually don't promote a lot mini and remix album.

Hmm, I think they gave this a mini album designation because the songs on it probably won't be featured on another release. Usually with Ayu singles [except Mirrorcle], they tend to always get lumped together on the next full album.

This is all true. It's been posted on her website. As for a mini album, the track list clearly isn't a mini-album, it may have 12 tracks but its more like the design of her 2000-2005 singles. 2-3 original mixes with a bunch of remixes and instrumentals of those 2-3 songs.

If you've paid attention to Japanese Music release dates you would've have noticed that the majority of the releases are always released on Wednesdays. I've seen a few lately that have fallen out of that pattern, but it mostly is on Wednesdays.

Oricon weeks ends on Tuesday, so having a release on a Sunday for example would only give it 3 days + the flying get day to chart, where as all the other releases would have 7 days.

These releases aren't about getting number 1 it's just about releasing, which is a -good- thing. If they happen to get number 1, that'd be awesome.

That's not necessarily true. Mirrorcle World was never placed on a studio album - it only appeared on a best-of album.

This is a weird mini-album... this easily could have been a single, and she could have easily released an album in December, even if it was a winter/ballad best-of. I know that seems a bit money-hungry, but we all know Ayu doesn't care about the sales or charts anymore.

I think Ayu is able to be more conceptual by having this as a mini-album. It's a set theme.
It starts and ends with this release.

But a single tends to be continuation of things leading to a bigger release. The album tends to have the overall concept.

Perhaps she wanted this (and maybe more of the releases in this 5 month release?) to be independent from each other?

...or there's no reason other than to avoid making this a single.

3 songs is not a mini album. Especially looking at the amount of remixes on it! It is a single.

What's the point of protecting her single streak which won't be touched by another female artist for a while and it's not as if all 50 of her singles reached #1, that would be a streak worth protecting.

Instead of honoring that form of release pattern, Ayu is honoring/commemorating the 8th of the month, her debut. The ranking is not important, but rather the day on which it is released.
