Yeah her contract was only for 2 Albums. She was done after "This Is The One".
I hate the age 30. I was not looking forward to this day. She is a full blown adult now and it is still hard for me to accept that. At least my favorite artist isn't some teeny bopper though and is relatively close in age to me. Could be worse. She could be old like ayumi. Utada is aging superbly. |

Wait- missed out on a lot. Is she back from her hiatus now? Or was it just a random single she released?
|
^ No
Queen Godtada has deemed is unworthy of new material. |

Is it already the 19th in Japan? Because damn, I thought her birthday was today, which is my birthday too! BIRTHDAY BUDDIES! It's okay, I share my birthday with Jay Chou, good enough.
|
aw. Three years ago today I saw her perform :bawl
or well, tomorrow for me. |

That's close enough lol Wait a minute, it's your bday! Happy birthday! |
Happy birthday, Godtada, I hope that someday you'll bless us with another masterpiece like Sakura Nagashi. Amen. ♥
Precious is a good piece of R&B. Different from First Love by a mile but I still find some gems from the album; My Little Lover Boy, I Don't Love You, How Ya Doin' (both versions), Ticket 4 Two, Close To You and 100 Reasons Why for me. Especially I Don't Love You and Ticket 4 Two are something I love a lot. :) |
I just wish Ticket 4 Two was a little bit faster... And I also wish Hikki would re-record some songs from Precious...
Happy birthday Hikki! |
I remember listening to some of "Precious" but I can't remember which song or songs I listened to and whatever I listened to, I remember nothing of the sound.
I didn't like it though. EDIT: By the way. I was in college and I could be doing anything but as soon as I heard that "DING!" I knew exactly what time it was and would drop everything and run for the tv life orgasms were in it. I would cry ya'll. I. Would. Cry. |
Has it really been 3 years since January 19, 2010?
It still feels like a dream from yesterday. Happy birthday goddess. As usual, jpop continues to suffer without your holy presence. |
She's 30 already wow, so cool.
|
Holy ****
That video gives me feels the likes of which nobody could ever fathom Utada and KH I AM NOT WORTHY Don't mind me asking, but could someone explain this wiki article in plain English: Utada stated that she couldn't get the same meaning she wanted to portray in "Simple and Clean" as in "Hikari", so changed the chorus melody to the one used in "Uso Mitai na I Love You" Oh and btw Sanctuary (closing) >>> all other versions |
Holy wave of nostalgia and I totally forgot about her bday! T_T.
Ugh, I'm like crying...I miss her so much ahaha. |
Sanctuary was so horrid. The lyrics are so awkward and she's stretching out syllables for too long.
|
^Pfft. She stretches them out in the "Passion" too.
How she stretched the words out and changed her pitch while doing so is what drew me to the song and magnetized me in the first place. I thought her range was like oh my gosh. And it's actually one of the few of her English songs that sound like her Japanese music. It was made as an English song first so that's something to be appreciated considering she refuses to do so normally when she creates English material. Because "Simple&Clean" doesn't exactly sound Japanese. |
Yeah, Simple and Clean was actually done first. And when she wrote the Japanese lyrics, the chorus part just didn't fit with the original melody, so she had to re-composed that particular part. But she didn't want the original melody getting lost in the Japanese side, so she made a new song (Uso) which included that piece of melody.

Isn't that the other way around...? :shakehead hmmnnn... need to find the info then. :P
Edit: there was even a thread talking about this: http://www.ahsforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=91126 and I remember when I read the Chinese translation of an interview back in 2003 (the time when COLORS was released), I think she said that she created Simple and Clean first. I wish I can find the original article to see which version is correct... |
I think I read somewhere that Hikari came first and Simple & Clean later but I may have misunderstood. My English was bad in 2006 anyway. :D
Now I'm in Hikki mood. Yeah♥ |
Yes I thought Sanctuary was the one that was written first (Simple & Clean came after Hikari).
|
http://www.gametrailers.com/videos/t...mple-and-clean
Simple and Clean was translated from Japanese (Hikari) to English. It's very awkwardly composed (musically and lyrically) and totally inferior in comparison to the godly Hikari tbqh. Not going to say Sanctuary was THAT much better but at least it was an original. |
Simple and Clean was written after Hikari. Sanctuary was written before Passion.
The Wiki article has awkward English, which confuses me because of how it's worded. Is it just me that thinks that? |
That really confuses me then... cuz I reread some Chinese websites and they all said that Simple and Clean was written first...
Edit: Where can I find magazine interviews from hikki? I think she specifically talked about S&C/Hikari in a magazine interview in early 2003 (I think that's actually her first interview in 2003, as you know she didn't really have many interviews back in the old days). |
Just in case anyone is curious (and I don't know if this was posted):

Hail holy GODtada! ...her selling power still lingers around the J-pop kingdom!
|
Godtada does well on charts♥
|
Maybe if we all meditate on it really hard we'll finally get a release date for In The Flesh? xD This is all I want right now.
|
Godtada, her power!
|
off topi. but i kinda want to know who coined the term GODtada! Where did it first appeared) LOL
|
Probably get *****ed out for asking, but if anyone can point me in the direction of the Dirty Desire remixes PM me please <3
|
^They're on Spotify, if you use that.
|
Dirty Desire remixes annoy me so much because of those orgasm noises in the background. Those really ruin those otherwise good remixes. :<
|
^Long time ago I made an edit version without those orgasms, but dunno where I put it.
|
^Aws, if you happen to find it, I'd like to have it. ;_;
|
UTADA: WHY U NO REMAKE DIS SONG 4 THIS WAS THE FLOP????????
:grumpy |
^Well, this is not the full version of the song but it's nice anyway
Don't really like this song but I wouldn't mind a remake with a new instrumental. |
Isn't this the Dub Mix in her debut single?? This was like released back in 1998 rite..?
|
I used to love this version! Its been years since i haven't listend to it. Brings back good old memories ^^
|
Seeing posts in this thread makes me happy and sad
*sniff* |
I don't need to know that song.
|
time will tell is a fantastic song haters sit down

Sakura Nagashi will be released on CD... as a first press bonus for EVANGELION:3.33 DVD and blu-ray which will release on 24 April.
DVD: http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=KIBA-2015 Blu-ray: http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=KIXA-290 |
This is very interesting... A physical CD as a bonus. But I guess this is better cuz it's too late to make it as a standalone release.

The things that actually annoyed me more about the 'Dirty Desire' remixes were that the Digital Dog mixes missed out the word "There's" from the first line of the first verse. Also Razor N Guido mislabeled their 'DUHB' remix. It's actually the 'Mixshow'. Basically it's a mix between a radio edit and club mix. I have the proper 'DUHB' and it's different. They pointed out on a remix forum that they submitted the wrong track by mistake because the track lengths were the same. =P |
Listening to the HEART STATION song right now. omg. The memories. Stahp utada. STAHP!
|
Love HEART STATION
I went through beautiful world yesterday, so nostalgic |
I hope she goes ahead and does the cover album...now would be a great time...I mean BENI's sold so well. |
She should do a cover album...
with all new material * COUGH * |
Does anyone remember the video that was on one of the Exodus promos that had clips of that showcase she did in New York and clips of Timbaland and the guy from Mars Volta talking about working with her? It was in that video that she said how she didn't think life would be worth living if she couldn't make music-- I really wanna find this video! haha If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it (:

psst...WINGS is amazing. |
WINGS and Kairo are like the best songs ever.
What people need to talk about is how underrated Making Love is. edit: **** it, nvm, that whole album is flawless. |
Gurrrrl Kairo is amazing, and I normally don't like that type of music.
|
I have a playlist with nothing but "Making Love" on it. One day I just heard that song differently and fell in love with it for the first time. Not that I ever hated it.
When I'm in the mood that song can kill and reincarnate me before the first verse hits. |
WINGS, Kairo & Making Love are all flawless masterpieces pretty much like everything Hikki has ever made in her chamber of magical music. I seriously don't understand how any of these can be hated. I just can't. XD
|
I never understood the love for those 2 songs.
Then again, I'm a VERY easily bored person. But if anyone hates be my last.... Possibly the best use of guitar I have ever heard ever. And I HATE guitar. Loathe the thing. |
Took me quite a while to like "Be My Last".
Bought the single without ever having heard the song and hated it as if ayumi hamasaki had made it herself. |
I don't remember if I ever hated Be My Last. I know that I loved to sing along to it quite a lot back when I still did that regularly. :D I'm also very aware that these days Be My Last is one of my fav songs♥
|
I think that acoustic version she did made me really love that song. I can't remember which one I heard first.
|

I always loved Be My Last, from the first moment I heard it. I do not like WINGS though and I'm not too fond of Kairo either.
But I found that Introducing Utada video myself! Here's the link incase anyone else was interested: http://cubicu.multiply.com/video/item/5 |
The only song I don't really like from ULTRA BLUE is This Is Love.
|
I had trouble with nichiyo no asa and One Night Magic at first. These two didn't really impress me and felt so boring when I heard them for the first time but after time passed, I got so in love with both of these that I can only wonder why did I even hate these. Awesome songs♥
|
I remember Kairo, Passion, and Keep Tryin' being my most played songs when Ultra Blue came out.
I love that album. Such a solid release, all the songs are great IMO :yes (except Nichiyou no Asa, still hate that song to this day :eviltongu). |
I'm forcing myself to listen to Wings
At least it goes somewhere, unlike kairo. I don't remember wings being so sweet actually. Hmmm the rest of the album's still better |
Nichiyo No Asa is the only song I wasn't able to make myself like. From the beginning I've thought the song was so weak, frail and bad.
I was shocked to hear Utada say it was her favorite from the Album. Ew. I do like the "Aaaahaaaahaaaah babies crying" pre-chorus bits that pop up twice with Utada sounding so dead and creepy in the background "......christmas morning.....". But yeah. No, Utada. Not even for you could I make myself like this song. No matter the amount of nostalgia that now comes with it. |
I think Kairo is meant to be a song that doesn't build up that much. It's like a long interlude. :3
|
Honestly, Kairo isn't a song I listen to.
But it's just so different from so many things...everywhere. And the lyrics...and the images she creates with it and the music. It's like looking at a painting. |
I would say that "Kairo" most definitely does build to a deafening crescendo and her adlibs toward the end and all of the complex layering are to die for.
I love the smooth up and down sway through the entire song to the end. It's like an entire song full of nothing but the best part instead of listening to a song to get to the best part that only lasts in short bursts only once or twice. |
I really really like the song Blue ! One of my favorite songs of her ^^ The album Blue is pretty good !
|
Does this mean that I should use my high end headphones and put effort into listening to Kairo?
|
^Definitely.
|
I wonder what Take 5 would sound like if you were immersed in a room of surround sound stereos and you had the HEART STATION CD.
|
^ Better than most things
|
Be My Last is my favorite song from her entire discography.
WINGS and Kairo are also amaaaaaazing! Making Love... it's okay, I don't hate it but I can't remember the last time I listened to it. From ULTRA BLUE I only dislike This is Love. |
twerking to On and On
|
Quote:
One of the HIGHLIGHTS of that album!! So good!! But Take 5 is the clear winner. I used to get seriously lost in that song, practically transported to another world when I would listen after having a smoke! |
"This Is Love" is one of her best Songs and could have been more than just a Digital Single, but then again a lot of her Album Tracks could be Singles considering she puts equal effort into all of her songs and spends so much time making her Albums whole.
Like what if she has been making an Album this whole hiatus in secret and is just gonna drop it all on us at once with no promotion or Singles? I would strip naked and hand my body over to her to slay. |
This is Love was my first underrated ultra blue song lol That song is gorgeous.
The notes and phrases, things she does. Beautiful. |

Oh, This Is Love is one of those songs that has always been close to my heart. I love everything about this song. It's not a cute pop song about love but a deep, mature pop song about love and I love those. ♥ Why do I get the feeling these conversations are again going in a circle? :3 Not that I mind, it's good that this thread still is alive. :D |
