BEST-SELLING J-POP RELEASES

Super Junior once again shows their appeal as Dong Hae and Eun Hyuk's Japanese album Ride Me – the only Super Junior-related Japanese CD release this year so far – topped our J-pop bestseller list for the first half of 2014. However, Arashi is the overall winner, occupying four out of ten spots on the chart. Like last year, the girls' side is represented by AKB48 and T-ara, with Girls' Generation joining in at eighth place.

Boku no Miteiru Fuukei came in at #1 in this list titled 15 Awesome Albums for Beginners to J-Pop

Quote:

1. Arashi's Boku no Miteiru Fuukei

If there's anything that makes the J-Pop industry tick, it's idol groups, and standing at the top of the male idol pack is Arashi, the leading act from Japan's top male talent agency, Johnny's Entertainment. Japan loves pretty much everything they do from their albums to their various television appearances, so they're the natural first step in learning more about what makes a good boy group in Japan. Boku no Miteiru Fuukei features a fun blend of genres and influences, making each of the twenty tracks a unique listen. All five members also have solos on this album, giving you a chance to hear their chops outside of the larger group.
http://media.goboiano.com/original/1...nners-to-j-pop

Honestly , I disagree with some of the albums being mentioned in this list . Like , I'm a big ARASHI fan but I wouldn't recommend Boku no Miteiru Fuukei to someone who wants to get into JPop (that should have been either Time or ARASHIC which're both still excellent albums til now)

Arashi's movie 'PIKA☆★☆NCHI' to be shown in four additional cities

Quote:

It has been announced that Arashi's upcoming movie "PIKA☆★☆NCHI" (Pikanchi Half) Life Is Hard Tabun Happy" (directed by Kimura Hisashi, to be released on August 1) will be released in 4 additional cities outside Tokyo.

The movie was originally meant to be only shown in 1 hall at the Tokyo Dome City Hall for 1 month. However, the total 250,000 tickets were sold out within one day after sales launched on July 13 and the tickets became as hard to obtain as their live concert tickets. When the tickets first went on sale, ticket sites such as Lawson's online system experienced server delays. Even though it is only a movie screening and fans will not get to meet the members, the tickets still sold out by the next day.

To meet with the fans demand, the movie will now also be screened in Sapporo, Nagoya, Osaka, and Fukuoka. Including Tokyo, a total of 363,000 tickets will now be available to fans. Arashi's leader Ohno Satoshi (33) commented, "I hope that people outside Tokyo will also be able to enjoy a piece of Arashi's history in 'Pikanchi'."

Arashi Previews 'Pika☆nchi 2.5' Movie and Expands Screening

http://aramajapan.com/wp-content/upl...n_pikanchi.jpg

Quote:

Originally set for a limited screening at the TOKYO DOME CITY HALL for the whole month of August, Arashi’s movie “PIKA☆★☆NCHI LIFE IS HARD Tabun HAPPY” screening will be expanded to four more cities. It has sold-out all 250,000 tickets within the day after sales launched last July 13. To make the movie more accessible to fans, extra screenings are now scheduled in Hokkaido, Osaka, Nagoya, and Fukuoka. The movie is set to mobilize an audience of 363,000.

As part of the group’s 15th year anniversary, this movie spin off comes 10 years following the 1st and 2nd movies in 2002 and 2004. The second movie is also widely referred to as Pikanchi Double, but this release is being positioned as Pikanchi 2.5, not Pikanchi Triple. The reason for this will be revealed during the movie.

V6′s Inohara Yoshihiko provided the movie’s draft. The first movie is based on his life story and Inohara is also expected to appear in the new movie. Other casts include Mizukawa Asami, Akiyama Natsuko, Uechi Haruna, and Matsubara Chieko.

Movie plot:

Set in Yashio Danshi, a large scale apartment complex in Shinagawa Ward. Shun (Aiba), Bon (Matsumoto), Takuma (Ninomiya), Haru (Ohno) and Chu (Sakurai), five men who spent their youth in the area, grew up and all too quickly went their separate ways. However, certain circumstances brought the group back together again for the first time in ten years.

In their hands, they held the notebooks Haru had given the four of them ten years ago when they set off on their own. “From now on, whenever something difficult or great happens, write it in here,” the young man said. The five men start talking about the ten years they’ve been apart while referencing their notebooks. Now that they’re in their thirties, issues that weren’t a problem in the past have started cropping up.

What troubles do each of them possess? And what is the reason they’ve gathered for the first time in ten years?

Additional Screening

Hokkaido: Oct 28-Nov 2
Nagoya: Dec 20- Dec 21
Osaka: Nov 5- Nov 19
Fukuoka: Nov 3- Nov 8

'ARASHI BLAST IN HAWAII' Set At Ko Olina Resort

Quote:

Where exactly is Arashi holding their 15th year anniversary concerts in Hawaii? The group is going back to Hawaii, the place of their debut, on September 19 and 20 to hold ‘ARASHI BLAST in Hawaii’. Expected to draw about 30,000 fans, it was confirmed that the concert will take place at Ko Olina Resort in West Oahu. They will be performing on a special open-air stage with a view of the ocean, set up on a vacant oceanfront parcel between the first and second lagoons of the resort, near the Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa. The influx of mostly Japanese visitors who will be attending the concerts should provide a huge economic boost to the area.

Open to mostly FC members, a package comes with the concert ticket, tour and accommodation (3-5 days). Arashi is currently the spokesperson for JAL (Japan Airlines) but since they don’t have enough for the planned 100 chartered flights, all airlines that have regular flights to Honolulu will be used to ferry attendees.

Expensive? Yes, it comes at 270,000-550,000 Yen per person depending on which package a fan will avail. If fans have not saved enough for this once in a lifetime event, they can still choose to go to the group’s Dome Tour (also their largest Dome Tour) scheduled towards the end of the year.

Meanwhile, merchandise for “ARASHI BLAST in Hawaii” which will only be sold in Japan has started selling. Scheduled for July 31- August 31, good sale is held at an exclusive venue of “Shio Haku 2014″ event in Shiodome, Tokyo.

The live photo album (as part of the Hawaii Blast Official Concert Goods) includes long interviews with the five Arashi members, their memories at Kokuritsu, and many more interviews for a total of 712 pages.

The Reason Why Sakurai Sho Became A Rapper

Quote:

While many people may not consider Sakurai Sho of Arashi to be a serious hip hop artist, Real Sound reveals his initial inspiration to become a rapper and analyzes his rapping style, making the case for his seriousness as a rapper.

Currently, [as of the time of the publication of the source article] Sakurai show can be been in the Kao “Essential” CM, revealing what he has learned at Johnny’s during the period of 20 years.

Sakurai, along with Aiba Masaki represents the two who are not especially good at dancing among the members. In yesterday’s episode of VS Arashi, Matsumoto Jun pointed out how they both forget the dances saying, “[Even though Sakurai and Aiba remember the choreography] They are the type to fall behind.” However, the revelation that took 20 years to cultivate tells that he is a serious and hardworking person.

Of course that attitude lives within Arashi’s songs. It is a well-known truth that Sakurai’s earnest introduction of rap made rap popular among all of Johnny’s. His style of rap= Sakurap, so it has the appeal of his diligent personality, which is why it harmonizes with invigorating idol pop.

Sakurai gained a full blown interest in rap in the third year of junior high school. According the the 2012 “Television zoom!!”, “There was a hip hop event in Hibiya’s Open Air Concert Hall, and that was really big for me,” he said. Here, he is probably referring to the legendary hip event Sanpin CAMP that was held on July, 7 1996 at Hibiya Open Air Concert Hall. Sanpin CAMP is is the legendary event where the mass gathering of artists such as ECD, YOU THE ROCK, ZEEBRA, RHYMESTER, DEV LARGE, SHAKKAZOMBIE, SOUL SCREW, and other artists who have now given a big influence to the rap and hip hop seen. Sakurai’s roots lay here.

In rap, there are components such as flow, rhyme, and lyrics, but Sakurai’s rap doesn’t have the currently popular thoroughly Americanized western music style. His rap has the distinct essence of clearly pronounced Japanese and words that are applied like Haiku, a style which came to a rise in the 90′s. His raps are not tricky, and by using vowels he rhymes steadily and is very easy to listen to. His rhymes also have a strong sense of message. He is smart with his selection of words. While this type of style might feel a bit insufficient to ears that are accustomed to hearing the now popular hip hop that showcases flow and timing, it still reaches a lot of people. It can be said that with such innocent raps that have been successfully crafted into his image, Sakurai’s raps have been established as an important part of Arashi’s music.

If there are people who like hip hop and Japanese rap but haven’t properly listened to Sakurai’s raps, then they should listen to “Believe,” which has positive and cheerful lyrics, “still…” which has the harmony of a melodious track and expressive lyrics, and “Subarashiki Sekai,” which has spectacularly descriptive lyrics. As for Sakurai’s rap, these songs should be shown that he is a serious artist.
http://aramajapan.com/news/music/the...a-rapper/5510/

I agree with the last paragraph as they mention 3 of my fave songs that includes Sakurap

Promoter Tom Moffatt says Arashi Blast in Hawaii will be among his biggest concerts

Quote:

Hawaii promoter Tom Moffatt said the Japanese supergroup Arashi’s pair of shows this weekend at Ko Olina Resort that are costing $8 million to produce will be among the biggest concerts he’s ever been a part of.

“It’s probably the biggest concert ever in Hawaii that’s been completely created in an open situation,” Moffatt told PBN Monday. “The other concerts I’ve had, the big ones, have been at Aloha Stadium. I’ve done concerts at the old stadium, the Blaisdell Concert Hall, the Blaisdell Arena, the Waikiki Shell and various Neighbor Islands and various Neighbor Island countries, but this is one of the biggest things, if not the biggest, thing I’ve ever been associated with.”

It’s important to note that Moffatt is no stranger to big-time concerts: he's the man who brought such big acts as Elvis Presley, the Rolling Stones and Michael Jackson to the Islands. The Arashi Blast in Hawaii shows won’t be the largest concerts by attendance — Moffatt notes that the Michael Jackson shows in 1997 drew 60,000 people to Aloha Stadium.

Stage construction for the concerts, which will take place on Friday and Saturday, is currently underway. Shipped in from Japan, the stage will stand 63 feet tall, and be 280 feet wide and 64 feet deep. It will also feature movable stages, a staple of the boy band’s concerts in Japan.

“In this one, most of the stage is going to come over the audience with the performers on stage,” he said. “It’s going to be wild.”

In addition, there will be 13 high-definition screens.

About 100 to 250 people have been setting up the venue at Ko Olina’s Naia Lagoon 3 for the past week. Moffatt expects 500 people will be needed to work at the concert on Friday and Saturday. The estimated cost of the production is $8 million.

Louis Leal, staging manager of Hawaii Stage & Lighting Rentals, said the company erects scaffolding and staging using eight-foot horizontal ledgers. The company owned 1,600 of them, but needed 4,000 for this show alone and had to order the additional pieces from Bil-Jax, a steel manufacturer in Ohio.

Leal has 30 years of experience in the business in Hawaii — his first show was The Police at Aloha Stadium in 1984. When he had heard about the concert, he watched the Arashi's 10th anniversary show, which he said was filled with "gags," or lots of moving parts. Leal said there have never been this many moving parts for a concert in Hawaii, ever.

“Nobody has ever done a show like this, ever, where you start from scratch and build," Moffatt said. "The stadium concerts, we had pre-made stages that were broken apart and brought here, the pieces put together like a puzzle. This one, we just started from scratch and built from the ground up.”

No backpacks will be allowed during the concerts, and neither will outside food and beverages. Arashi will provide a souvenir concert seat to all ticketholders, so lawn chairs, backrests, blankets and cushions will not be allowed. It’s also a dry event and no alcohol is allowed.

As of Monday, tickets to the concert were still available, but Moffatt said he expects the concerts to sell out. Maximum capacity is 15,000 for each show.

PBN previously reported that the concert is expected to bring in more than $18 million in direct spending and more than $100 million in advertising and public relations exposure.

Hawaii Braces for Arashi

Quote:

that’s one of the headlines running in local Hawaii news for days now. It’s not everyday or a lot of times we see Jpop acts on concerts outside Japan- a huge scale at that, and being covered locally widely. This is the first time Arashi (storm in English) is playing in the US.

It took the Hawaii Tourism Authority 2 years and a 15th year celebration to lure Arashi in. According to concert promoter Tom Moffatt “Of all the concerts I’ve done, I think this is the biggest. To build a stage like this from scratch, the number of high definition screens, nobody has ever done that before.” He added “You know, I’ve done great acts like the Rolling Stones and Elvis…but the excitement level on this one is, because the media involvement, is unprecedented, really.”

The stage is almost ready. Part of the draw of the concert for locals who haven’t even heard of the group Arashi before or who would not even understand them, is to see what the show is about, seeing the huge stage being constructed. By any definition, this is a $8 million worth of production- which was paid for by the band. They’re bringing the largest stage in Hawaiian history at 63 feet high and 280 feet wide, moving platforms and 13 HD screens, which took dozens of sea and air cargo containers to bring, to Hawaii.

How are they being received? Watch local Hawaii news coverage on the upcoming concerts.

Since the concerts are expected to pump to pour $20 million into the local economy, it is being covered by local media. 15,000 people are coming from Japan and another 15,000 local fans who have bought tickets. 4,000 additional tickets were added for each night.

Arashi will be holding their 15th year anniversary concerts on September 19 and 20 starting 5:30 pm (Hawaii Time)

Although the local reports tackle more on the gains for Hawaii and how it can be a game-changer for large scale acts, there are hopes that we can see more Japanese acts perform outside.

Which song has lyrics that are just way too sexy?

Quote:

Goo Ranking polled 1,121 people to find out what song lyrics they felt were ‘too sexy’. These were songs that didn’t need a video to make you blush and look away, but songs that could do that just with their choice in words.

A lot of you probably won’t be too surprised with the songs on this list, but I do feel the #1 spot rightfully deserves it with lyrics like “leave your seed inside of me! It’s okay if you don’t love me… because I don’t love you”. I mean, yikes!

Check out the full list below the cut and let us know what song you think would fit the list!

9. Koda Kumi – “Ima Sugu Hoshii”

4. NEWS – “Bambina”
3. L’Arc~en~Ciel – “XXX”

Arashi celebrates 15th Anniversary in Hawaii & boosts local economy

Quote:

Arashi held two 15th anniversary concerts on September 19th and 20th in Hawaii. This was special for the group, because they debuted in Hawaii in September 1999.

Every 50 minutes, vehicles from Honolulu brought excited fans to the high class Ko Olina Resort to get their Arashi fever on.

Each day attracted 15,000 fans and Arashi made a grand entrance to their concerts by flying in on a helicopter. Ninomiya Kazunari (31) screamed out to the fans, “Arashi has arrived!”. The unit performed their debut song “A-RA-SHI” and other hit songs that they’ve made over the past 15 years. They even performed with a Hawaiian band as the sun set behind them. The enormous production is something fans who attended the event will never forget.

15 years ago on September 15th, the band was announced via a press conference on a cruise ship off the coast of Honolulu. They had just gotten the five boys together a few days prior to the announcement and with that their hopes and fears were ‘set sail’.

The five members have had to jump over numerous hurdles in their career, but now they have grown to be Japan’s representative pop group. Leader Ohno Satoshi (33) broke into tears, “15 years ago things felt a bit gloomy… But now, things don’t feel gloomy at all.”

Sakurai Sho (32) spoke as tears swelled in his eyes, “I felt uncomfortable by our name ‘Arashi’ (storm) 15 years ago. But now it gives me a sense of pride and love. Because of that, we were able to come back to our roots in Hawaii.” Matsumoto Jun (31) kept it short as the five members cried, “To my fellow members, thank you. I’m so happy I get to do this with you five guys.”

In total 30,000 people came to see Arashi and a lot of fans even flew in from Japan. The two day event is said to have brought in 20,700,000 dollars to the local economy. Needless to say, this event was on a scale Hawaii has never seen before.

The intense impact and beautiful tears – Arashi’s Hawaiian concert is going to be a new legend among fans.

September 19 becomes 'Arashi Day' in Hawaii

Quote:

On September 19 and 20, Arashi held their 15th anniversary live on the island of Oahu in Hawaii.

Hawaii is a special place for the members as they held their debut press conference on the cruiser off the coast of Honolulu back on September 15, 1999. The 2-day live was held outdoors attracting about 30,000 people in total.

Half of the concert tickets were designated for fan club members, sold as a part of a tour package which ranged from 200,000 to 500,000 yen ($1836 to $4594). The rest were available for local fans, as well as fans living in the United States and Canada.

The members arrived at the venue, which was made just for the concert, via helicopter. They performed a total of 30 songs tracing their 15-year career. Besides the performance itself, the members entertained fans with various video clips and MC segments.

To commemorate the occasion, the state of Hawaii announced that they have established September 19 as 'ARASHI DAY'.

To commemorate their 15th anniversary, Arashi returned to the place of their debut in Hawaii and held a two-day concert titled 'ARASHI BLAST in Hawaii' on September 19 and 20. The documentary will feature footage from the live itself as well as behind-the-scenes footage. Fans will be able to see rehearsals not going as planned due to the rain, accidents that happened during the live, and the reason why the members shed tears during the encore.

Arashi and actress Yoshitaka Yuriko announced as this year’s Kohaku hosts

Quote:

For this year’s ’65th NHK Kohaku Singing Contest’ the host for the red team has been announced to be actress Yuriko Yoshitaka and for the white team, idol group Arashi has been chosen as hosta for the 5th time in a row. The mediator will be television announcer Yumiko Udo.

‘Kohaku Uta Gassen’ or just ‘Kohaku’ is a yearly singing contest where the white team who are all male artists compete against the red team who are comprised of female artists. For a lot of artists it is prestigious to be chosen to perform on the show.

It is Yuriko’s first time as a host and she said nervously “I still have not grasped the situation. It is still two months away but I want to try my best to control things.” Also, looking at Arashi she smiled, “I never thought we would ever stand together on anything other than a variety show.”

Arashi’s Masaki Aiba spoke saying ‘I never even thought in my dreams that we could be hosts for 5 years in a row. I am happy.”

This year’s theme is ‘Let’s sing. Everyone join in on New Years Eve!’

The broadcast will be from 7:15 pm to 11:45 pm, and it will bring the year to a close with representative singers from Japan giving a hot performance.

Yoshitaka Yuriko and Arashi to host this year's 'Kohaku Uta Gassen'

Quote:

On October 10, NHK made an official announcement that actress Yoshitaka Yuriko and popular group Arashi will host 'The 65th NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen'. Arashi will host the white team for the 5th consecutive year, while Yoshitaka will make her debut as the host for the red team. In addition, announcer Udo Yumiko will be the general host.

Yoshitaka played the lead in this year's NHK morning drama 'Hanako to Anne'. Throughout the 156 episodes, it had an average viewer rating of 22.6%, the highest among any morning drama in the past 10 years. In her best condition yet, will she be able to lead the red team to victory?

The actress initially showed a nervous expression stating, "I haven't grasped the situation..." during a press conference held during that day, but she went on to say, "Although this is in 2 months, I will do my best to adjust to it." Then, she looked over at Arashi and said with a smile, "I didn't think I would get to stand next to them in anything other than variety programs, so I want them to pull me through."

Arashi, who has become the first to host the program for 5 consecutive years, will once again be in charge of the white team. Member Aiba Masaki commented, "I've never imagined that we would host for 5 years in a row. I am happy."

This year's theme is "Utaou. Oomisoka wa Zenin Saka de!" which translates to "Let's sing. Everyone participate on New Year's Eve!" The show will broadcast for 4.5 hours from 7:15 pm to 11:45 pm. Until now, the win-loss record between the red team and the white team is 29 to 35.

Honest opinion on their new album ? not as good as LOVE + for once , Ohno's solo is not that good

I can understand why Zero-G was only given a PV as it's the most distinct/memorable new song in the album . The other tracks sound so similar , it's not funny

The difference between Arashi and number 2 in sales! Just listened the new album, didn't like that much, nothing that special :( Thought only song that I really adore from Arashi is Dear Snow. KarenPang, you're familiar with their discography? Do you have any similar song to recommend :)?

Uh Dear Snow is not included in their latest album . It's found in their 10th album Beautiful World

And Dear Snow is 1 of my least fave songs from them & the PV is their most boring to date

I'm surprised that the 1st day sales for THE DIGITALIAN was higher than LOVE & I've already said in my previous post in that I don't find their latest album as good as LOVE

That's not to say THE DIGITALIAN is an outright horrible album . There're still a few surprises , such as Aiba's solo being the best out of the 5 + MatsuJun's solo is tolerable (again)

Can't believe that for once Ohno's solo is my least fave this time round

Yes I know that Dear Snow is an older song :) I meant maybe something similar to that one since that's one of the few songs I have from Arashi on my phone, well what can I say, tastes differ :D edit: I'll take my words back, I really like Hope in the darkness from the new album, the lyrics are really good.

Arashi Ties EXILE For Most Consecutive Years With A #1 Album

http://i58.tinypic.com/5jz0xl.jpg

Quote:

Arashi's latest album "THE DIGITALIAN" has topped Oricon's weekly album chart, marking the group's 11th consecutive year with a chart-topping album.

"THE DIGITALIAN" was released on October 22. During its first week of sales, the album sold 660,000 copies, making it the top selling album of the week.

Since Arashi's 2004 album "Iza, Now!", Arashi has had a #1 album on the Oricon chart. This year marks the group's 11th consecutive year with a #1 album.

Arashi is currently tied with EXILE for most consecutive years with a #1 album. EXILE's streak started in 2003 and ended in 2013. The group does not have plans to release a new album this year, so their streak will likely remain at 11 years, allowing Arashi the opportunity to surpass them next year.

Arashi's albums have generally performed better throughout the later years of its career. This is in stark contrast to the general trend of decreased physical sales that the Japanese music industry has been experiencing for nearly a decade.

THE DIGITALIAN solos ranking according to my own opinion

1) Disco Star (Aiba)
2) Hey Yeah ! (Sakurai)
3) Merry Christmas (Nino)
4) STAY GOLD (MatsuJun)
5) Imaging Crazy (Ohno)

Aiba's solo this time round in THE DIGITALIAN is just great & likewise in LOVE , he had the best solos back to back album wise even though vocals wise he can't make it just like MatsuJun

Unlike MatsuJun , Aiba's able to choose solos that works well in his favour despite his shortcomings

This time round even MatsuJun's solo is tolerable . Sakurai's Hey Yeah ! is fun while Nino's Merry Christmas is perfect for Christmas that's taking place soon

Sorry Ohno but this time round your solo falls flat :no

Aiba Masaki's starring film 'MIRACLE Debikuro-kun no Koi to Mahou' to be released in Asia

Quote:

On October 27, the world premiere of Arashi member Aiba Masaki's starring film 'MIRACLE Debikuro-kun no Koi to Mahou' (to open in theatres on November 22) was held at 'The 27th Tokyo International Film Festival'.

The film was directed by Inudo Isshin, who Aiba and the members of Arashi previously worked with in the 2007 movie 'Kiiroi Namida'. It's a love story based on Nakamura Ko's novel 'Debikuro-kun no Koi to Mahou', which uses Yamashita Tatsuro's masterpiece "Christmas Eve" as its motif.

During the event, it was announced that the movie will be released in South Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong sometime next year. Aiba expressed, "Isn't it amazing? It hasn't even been released in Japan yet." Meanwhile, Eikura Nana, who plays the protagonist Hikaru's (Aiba) childhood friend, commented on co-starring with Aiba, "There's a scene where we hold hands. I thought my hand was going to break [because he held it so tightly], but I was so nervous that I couldn't say anything."

The film also stars Korean actress Han Hyo-joo as a world-famous lighting designer who Hikaru accidentally encounters. In addition, Ikuta Toma plays the role of a manga artist who was Hikaru's classmate during his college days.

Sakurai will star as Kō Ōsawa, a gentle and serious chef whose speciality is French cuisine. Originally, Kou is the top chef at a first-class hotel, but he sees a brochure to become a chef-in-residence, and is resolved to become the chef for the Japanese embassy in Vietnam.

Nishimura and Kawasumi serialized the 25-volume manga in Kodansha's Morning magazine from 1998 to 2006. Nishimura and Kawasumi's original manga dealt with diplomatic issues at the time, and so the live-action adaptation will switch the situation to a more current matter — the export of Japan's famous bullet trains.

Yoshihiro Izumi (Rookies, Gokuaku Ganbo) is writing the special's scripts, and Masataka Takamaru (director, Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches) is serving as the producer, and Yūichi Satō (Strawberry Night, Kazoku Game) is directing the special. Filming began on November 1.

The special will air on January 3 on Fuji TV.

Kawasumi also collaborated with Takurō Kajikawa on the Nobunaga no Chef (A Chef of Nobunaga) manga, which has received two live-action television adaptations.

Sakurai Sho to play a chef in Fuji TV's New Year drama special

Quote:

Arashi's Sakurai Sho will star in Fuji TV's New Year drama special 'Taishi Kakka no Ryourinin'.

In the past, Sakurai has challenged himself to various professions for his roles from a butler in "Nazotoki wa Dinner no Ato de" to a private tutor in "Kazoku Game". This time, he will take on the role of a chef who works at a Japanese Embassy in Vietnam. On playing this unique role, Sakurai commented, "Not only do I need the art of cooking, but I also need passion. I hope to deliver human conflict and support together with spectacular dishes."

Written by Nishimura Mitsuru and illustrated by Kawasumi Hiroshi, 'Taishi Kakka no Ryourinin' is a manga series that was serialized in 'Morning' from 1998 to 2006. Sakurai will play the protagonist, a gentle and serious French chef named 'Osawa Ko'. Osawa was a sous chef at a five-star hotel, but he had a problem with this job as he was unable to see the faces of his customers. After finding a pamphlet advertising for a official residence chef position in a diplomat office, he takes the job and ends up becoming a chef at the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam.

The drama will be written by Izumi Yoshihiro, produced by Takamaru Masataka, and directed by Sato Yuichi. While the original manga deals with diplomatic matters of that time, the upcoming drama will consider present-day issues.

The filming for the drama began on November 1. "Invite your family for New Year's, and watch it on an empty stomach," said Sakurai.

Drama 'Taishi Kakka no Ryourinin' will broadcast on January 3 (broadcast time still under negotiation).
