Utada confirmed via twitter that she is working on new music
http://aramajapan.com/news/utada-hik...w-music/15443/

~StarCatcher~ 12th January 2015 11:38 AM

OMG hands down

Finally. I hope this means she will end her hiatus. Defenitely sounds that way.

Delicious n Bold 12th January 2015 04:15 PM

YAAAAAAAS PRAISE JESUS

bluegie 12th January 2015 04:54 PM

AHHHH Hikki please be back asap... I need new incredible songs from you...

Thanks heaven she's working on new music.. :yes

visionfactory 12th January 2015 05:00 PM

Calling is so much better than Sanctuary lol

orangeakira 12th January 2015 09:01 PM

This doesn't necessarily mean she's off hiatus. She could just be working on the new song for Evangelion. It was the same with Sakura nagashi.

amorphose 12th January 2015 09:18 PM

^Here's to hoping though, right? All signs seem to be pointing in that direction!

avex needs to do an Ayu Tribute album and get Hikki to cover one of her songs now. :heart

Pieces_of_SEVEN 13th January 2015 12:48 AM

I would LOVE an ayu tribute album. As long as they don't DESTROY her classics like they did with Utadas.

sora-kara 13th January 2015 06:29 AM

Imagine what Hikki could do with Free&Easy...I'd pay for that shit.

"Hikari" was the only song I thought got DESTROYED. :dead2

An Ayu tribute album would be worth it just to hear Hikki sing one of her songs. Is it too much to pray for an "alterna" cover? :heart

tsumekaze_ 13th January 2015 06:03 PM

^ Hikari was my favourite cover out of them all :O

ahtka-chan 13th January 2015 09:12 PM

^Mine too! Such a lovely version!

Loved their folk approach to the song;

Let's not front and say this isn't the most likely scenario. C'est la vie.

I'll just quote her directly from her hiatus message "Of course I may be making music or singing as I like, during that time." I really wish this meant she was coming back, and it might mean that, but until she says something directly or makes an announcement we won't know for sure because making music does not mean she's done with her hiatus.

NintendoHTF1242 13th January 2015 11:45 PM

I had a dream that Utada released a double A-Side single that contained the theme song for Kingdom Hearts and then the theme song for Evangelion. Woke up in tears cause it wasn't real.

then what's the point.

If I wanted to hear known good versions of good Ayu songs, I'd just listen to Ayu's versions lol

Anyways, do hope for new album :D

Ugh, yes, I would love an alterna cover

hayasaki 14th January 2015 04:31 AM

Ayu's Rock songs would fit Hikki's voice omg

amorphose 14th January 2015 04:49 AM

Guys, let's also not forget that when she posted the message about entering hiatus she estimated that it would be for 2 to 5 years. We're pretty near the five year mark! I'm just gonna be optimistic, ok? xD

Minttulatte 14th January 2015 08:26 PM

I hope she'll release a new album and it sells 3 million copies. :D

Zahara 14th January 2015 10:26 PM

hayasaki 14th January 2015 11:13 PM

I can see her selling that in digital sales. She does very well in that area.

How about Lupe Fiasco (an awesome rapper) sampling SAKURA Drops?!

orangeakira 22nd January 2015 05:04 AM

^I see where you're coming from, but I don't think it's sampled from Sakura Drops. It's similar, and the notes are the same, but they're different instruments, and it's too small of a sample to really claim it's a sample. It's just the same couple of notes looped. I mean that sample also sounds reminiscent of Strawberry Fields Forever by The Beatles and about two minutes in in the song Nakushita Kotoba by No Regret Life.

I don't particularly have a favorite Hikki album. I enjoy a lot of her songs, but was never really fond of albums entirely (I'm the same with Ayumi). But one of my favorite albums will probably have to be either DEEP RIVER or HEART STATION.

I hope when Hikki comes back to music, the next video is a sequel to Hikari and she vacuums her house or something.

Delicious n Bold 14th March 2015 10:37 PM

Lol.

Nijiro Bus is annoying and I hate the way she sings the verses too. However, I really like the part (melody/composition) where she goes:

Ensoku zenya wa kanarazu nebusoku
Tanoshimi de tanoshimi de
Kininaru ano ko ga totsuzen ryuugaku
Setsunakute setsunakute

I guess that's the prechorus?

Delicious n Bold 19th March 2015 06:08 PM

Reminds me what could have been with Kiss n Cry and an extra 'rap' verse. That song up until the 2nd chorus is everything.

Nijiiro BASU is a good song but it's not an anytime everyday song.

Delicious n Bold 19th March 2015 07:03 PM

But I won't front and say that Be My Last and even Kairo is worse. Then we have Eclipse which is probably my favourite interlude.

CoriKaru 19th March 2015 07:15 PM

It took years for that interlude to grow on me. I love the one on DEEP RIVER though. Then Gentle Breast came along and I had to give jesus all the praise and all the glory.

There was a phase where I could listen to nothing but DEEP RIVER and I always had the interlude on repeat. Nostalgia ~

orangeakira 19th March 2015 08:32 PM

I love nijiiro bus. then again my points are never valid because I like all of utada's songs. Some more than others but she doesn't have any songs where I could legitimately say I hate it or it's gross or terrible.

NintendoHTF1242 19th March 2015 09:28 PM

I like the bridge in Niji-iro because the song goes from happy-go-lucky to "take me to a planet where there is no one" like aight Utada

CoriKaru 19th March 2015 10:26 PM

Her melancholy is one of her best traits.

Urge to go back and listen to Goodbye Happiness now.

EDIT: Just want to say we're into her 5th year of hiatus. It's been 7 years to the month since her last Japanese album.

Like we're in completely different places in our lives. I'm no longer in college or in my early 20s. I'm d@mn near 30! That's crazy!

I hope she has fans left 'cause we've all grown up!

Delicious n Bold 19th March 2015 11:22 PM

It's been 7 long years. I've been a fan of Utada for FAR LONGER than ayu and...
Oh lord when she dropped sakura nagashi out of thin air it was just... I couldn't believe it. I thought Angela Aki won that year with Kokuhaku but Sakura Nagashi made me go like 'who's ayu? Who's namie? Who's Kumi? Who's anyone else?' I'm in a better place in my life so her melancholy isn't as impactful as it once was (and it REALLY WAS. I can't even make myself listen to Be My Last volitionally, but comimg up randomly is ok, because personal reasons and I wanna forget it exists sometimes because it just hit every chord at one point) but if she were to make another ballad I will be onboard 100%.

adantatu2 19th March 2015 11:45 PM

^Sakura Nagashi is the only song I like from her, I was curiuous because it was her supposed "comeback" song, the voice, the piano, It's a beautiful masterpiece.

orangeakira 20th March 2015 12:09 AM

Sakura Nagashi. The one song she happens to just nonchalantly release while on hiatus shits on every ballad ayu has released since utada went on hiatus. Even without her vocals, the instrumental for Sakura Nagashi is so fucking beautiful and powerful. It easily stands on it's own.

CoriKaru 20th March 2015 02:07 AM

^Oh my god. My bad lol.

And honorable mention to "Keep Tryin'" Instrumental.

And I love hearing Utada's lower register as backing vocals in her instrumentals. And just any interesting sounds you don't get to hear well in the original song.

Like in HEART STATION. At the end of the choruses, "I miss you/love you/himitsu," you can hear a very high pitched chipmunked Utada.

Wasn't until years later that I caught that.

Niji Iro Bus is AMAZING! I always pretend that Boku Wa Kuma doesn't exist and listen Take 5/Niji Iro Bus. They would be amazing as a two part story PV.

My favorite album of hers will always be Distance, but I think her masterpiece is DEEP RIVER.
