Futari de…

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0xmNIIwUOo

Wow , still a masterpiece of a single after so many years

Yume no Uta / Futari de... is 1 of the few Kuu singles I personally have it in physical hard copy as it was and is still so good

RainbowFive 17th October 2020 06:03 PM

lovethatkuu&ayu 17th October 2020 06:56 PM

Yume no Uta is still so....majestic. It's a shame Kumi is a bit funny with it after the composition issue came to light.

Darkifrit 17th October 2020 07:05 PM

Majestic is the word!
This song is so amazing live.

I’m a bit annoyed too about how she acts with this song. 3 years ago in a Award TV show, they invited former winners to perform old winning songs and she performed Ai no Uta while she had won with Yume no Uta...
I was pleased to see she performed it at reLive last year.

chocopockymaster 17th October 2020 09:19 PM

^ Yume no Uta may have won originally but I don’t exactly think performing a song that was later found out to have basically been plagiarized would have been a good look for her so...??? Why are you mad lol

thinkingoutloud89 17th October 2020 10:48 PM

i prefer Futari de... tbqh; same composition tho

pommy48 17th October 2020 11:35 PM

Oh no, what song did Yume no Uta plagarize?

Well was it really That big of a deal? I know Alex stopped working with the composer but it didn’t stopped the single being her 2nd biggest best seller and Yume no Uta being a popular song even nowadays despite being almost erased from her discography since a decade.

Once again, I feel kind of frustrated by the over exposure of Ai no Uta while she had many successful ballads with a similar popularity like you, Yume no Uta, Moon Crying or even Suki de.
Glad she has a hit song but sadly this is my least fav ballad…

Her singing in Futari de… bugs me. Don’t really like the song because of this.

chocopockymaster 18th October 2020 02:57 AM

It’s not like the news broke before the single was released, it was released and THEN the plagiarism came to light. She’s supposed to keep promoting a plagiarized song on music shows and awards shows just because it sold well??? She’d get criticized left right and center for that.

tokyoxjapanxfan 18th October 2020 04:11 AM

Yume no uta is one of my favorite Kuu ballads. It’s a shame it had that issue :(

I love Stay with me too, and would love if she sang it more. Ai no uta has been very played out, I never really liked it even during its release lol. I understand the appeal, though. It kind of checks all the boxes for a hit ballad for the Japanese audience

Calm down :o

I don’t think the plagiarism was that big issue and it’s not even that obvious (if so, it wouldn’t be discovered years after the release).
Why would she be criticized ? it’s not like she was the composer of the song and it was pushed everywhere like crazy during it’s release (the top of the peak of her career). People I know from Japan who are not Kumi’s fans all know Yume no Uta. It was a hit among her casual listeners so she should definitely uses the song a little more in my opinion!

Anyway Yume no Uta is definitely one of my fav songs from her and definitely her best ballad performed live.

Yeah it’s true! Suki de is also such kind of song.
If I remember well, at the time of the release Avex marketed Suki de as a Ai no Uta sister because they were frustrated to lost the awards shows with Ai no Uta...

RainbowFive 18th October 2020 12:26 PM

I remember Yume no Uta plagarize case was a big thing, the refrain was almost identic to another song previously released. Avex bought the copyright from the composer/singer to shut up everything. obviously no one blamed Kumi.

Refrain:
(2005/07/27 Release)

Pre-chorus
From the album『Believe Yourself』(1998/08/26 Release)

thinkingoutloud89 18th October 2020 03:54 PM

^was it tho? i remember fans online talking about it, but I never heard of an of those artist claiming the song rights. Maybe avex even paid them out for further use. She is still singing both songs, even in concerts (which get released on DVD) - I highly doubt that would still be the case if this was not solved.

chocopockymaster 18th October 2020 05:03 PM

It was a big deal. I can see why she would only perform the song in concerts because to do so anywhere else would so not be a good look for her. My memory of the time is a little fuzzy but I definitely don’t remember anyone blaming her (how could she or avex have known?) but to continue promoting it on shows and stuff after the news broke would have been a lose-lose situation for her.

kaled kalil 18th October 2020 05:26 PM

This whole plagiarism was right at the time the song was out, and if it was a bigger deal she wouldn't win the Grand Prix she won for it. Avex didn't stop working with Hiroo Yamaguchi at all, he does the bass for some of Kumi's songs (walk ~to the future~, Alone, Stand By You) and he also worked with BoA and Ai Otsuka.

Also, she promoted Yume no Uta everywhere, during the release she performed on Music Station, CDTV, Music Fighter, Heyheyhey, and was the song she used for all the award shows including the one she won, and even sang the song on a-nation 07 and J-WAVE 07, so promoting was not a problem at all, and I don't think people even remember this issue at all.

She might not like the song that much since she often performs Futari de instead of Yume no Uta (Kingdom, UNIVERSE and WOML Tour), maybe because of the lyrics which Futari de has a much more positive meaning.

I do understand people wanting her to give more attention to other ballads, but to the general public Ai no Uta is her biggest one, the same applies to Namie's CAN YOU CELEBRATE, Ayu's SEASONS and so on, so when she's invited to a show which is about their "biggest songs", don't expect her to perform something else just because it sold more physically. Ai no Uta outsold digitally back then and it is more remembered, and that's all.

thinkingoutloud89 18th October 2020 05:34 PM

^yeah it really wasn't that big of a deal. As I said, if the song would have problems it would also have been cut from concerts since these releases also included rights (like when ou perform covers).
Everything else was pointed out by kaled. promotion went on as usual. It really has nothing to do with it being plagarized (and there was never an official statement, maybe both parts were sold here and there and ended up in two songs - or the composer even sold those parts separately with keeping the rights.)

Darkifrit 18th October 2020 09:42 PM

I didn’t know. This means the plagiat topic was not a real issue.
I guess you are right, Yume no Uta is probably not one of the personal fav song from Kumi.
Didn’t she broke up with her long time boyfriend around 2006? The lyrics maybe reminds her of this past relationship.

Who else is surprised by the relative high success of Koishikute and Ai wo Tomenaide in her YouTube Chanel ?
Koishikute is especially impressive as the song didn’t really succeed in the download charts if I remember well.

kaled kalil 18th October 2020 10:17 PM

Koishikute's case is probably the Youtube algorithm working and making the song being the next recommended video to play. I say this because the other stats are quite low for the number of views:

Koishikute has 502k views, but only 2.500 likes and 90 comments
Cutie Honey has 530k views but has 5.000 likes and 232 comments.
DDD has 305k views but 3.200 likes and 166 comments.

So the ratio is little off for an "organic" view counts.

Ai wo Tomenaide was her last somewhat hit ballad and the movie for the tie-in did pretty well, so the views are quite alright.

Corvina 18th October 2020 10:53 PM

Yume no Uta and Futari de are two songs I absolutely don't care about.

Speaking about youtube Ai no Uta is now her most viewed original MV. Looks like the public slowly discovers it has been fully uploaded there. :rolleyes
And it's amazing to see that Love Me Back is still going strong! If it's going on like that it's going to be among the first songs hitting a million views.
It also has over 6k likes!
More than Ai no Uta e.g. and from what I fastly gathered only surpassed by Megumi no Hito (7k) and you (also more than 6k).

The Paradox Live collabo actually is a nice marketing move, I think.
Anime/vocaloid groups are pretty popular right now and Kenshi Yonezu e.g. started with that (still has a hand in it).

And yeah, Ai wo tomenaide was her last hit single so to speak, being 2 weeks at #1 digitally and getting digitally certified right after the release of the single (overall Platinum).
After that she also lost sale power digitally.
It was also right after she announced her relationship, her pregnancy and so on at the time of the Love Me Back single release.
Guess you could argue about if that changed the interest of the public.

Koishikute went to #1 on Recochoku and #2 on iTunes after the Music Station Super Live performance and was certified Gold for 100k+ copies sold digitally. I'd say it was her last hit.

Koishikute only got certified Gold digitally in January 2014, just like Love Me Back btw. though, when mobile and computer downloads were started to be counted together for digital sales.

Darkifrit 18th October 2020 11:59 PM

Kaled : Interesting. I didn’t go that far on the figures.

I love both Ai wo Tomenaide & Koishikute.
Thanks guys for the figures, I have fuzzy memories of this period of her carreer.

Still quite surprised Avex missed the opportunity to update the single version of Ai no Uta PV.
The Kingdom version is not so great imo.

kaled kalil 19th October 2020 04:15 AM

I wish the fans would pay more attention to her latest ballads, it seems that they just want "the classics" and are stuck with these, and to me the newest are still good.

If I would pick my top 5/6 ballads after JAPONESQUE (which I believe people think its her last "good" album :rolleyes ) it would be:

01 Aenaku Naru Kurainara
02 Stand by You
03 Koishikute
04 On and On
05 WALK OF MY LIFE / NEVER ENOUGH

On another note, I've been listening a lot Color the Cover. I hope angeL+monsteR sounds as fresh as CtC still sounds. Also, IT'S SO DELICIOUS should be in this album, I do believe it was recorded for it but god knows why it's not. Pink Spider is that bitch. Been that bitch still that bitch. Will forever be that bitch.

Darkifrit 19th October 2020 07:01 AM

Out from Winter of Love, my fav recent ballads are Imagine, WOML and again. I especially love the last one. It’s totally my sh*t to listen to it nowadays while walking in the streets. Remind me of the PV which is one of my fav.

It’s been almost a year since the release of (re)CORD and it’s still fresh to me. The album is one of my fav from her and I consider it as her best since Bon Voyage.

Isicio 20th October 2020 12:10 AM

I'm so hyped about the two minis. So bad cdjapan can't sell it, yesasia shipping is more expensive but I will try to buy It -.-

kaled kalil 20th October 2020 12:16 AM

Kumi was part of the rebrand of Koala Sofa Bed in Tokyo this weekend. She talked about staying at home with her son because of the covid situation, and how she was able to connect with him by playing video game, and she's playing from the old NES to Switch (a Nintendo fangirl I see haha) - https://www.oricon.co.jp/news/2174547/full/

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teVcFGgHlWw

That's why she's posting some pics on her IG with the new sofa.

On another news, they reported that no new infection from Covid 19 happened with those who attended the Fukuoka date of the MNI... Tour https://rhythmzone.net/koda/news/detail.php?id=1086714

It's a pity the new mini-albums have no chance to be #1. Mr Children is releasing a new album on the same day.

KarenPang 20th October 2020 12:18 PM

^ Kinda dejavu in the sense cos years ago when Black Cherry was released , it was almost the top selling studio album of the year until Mr. Children dethroned her :s

kaled kalil 21st October 2020 02:12 AM

^ Yeah. haha

Kumi will be part of the movie Zokki, an adaptation of the manga Zokki A & Zokki B. The movie is set to premier in 2021. https://www.chunichi.co.jp/article/140590/

It is directed by Yamada Takayuki, Takenaka Naoto and Saitoh Takumi, and has a cast of 18 member announced.

Corvina 21st October 2020 06:19 AM

Kuu is shooting something today!
Maybe one of the new PVs.
She's also often recording these days, probably finishing the album.
But judging from her stories and posts she's only doing it at home - really looks like this is going to be an album made at home. :laugh

EDIT:

Yeah, a PV.
Looks really interesting!

I think she's just referencing to the monsteR side, cause it would be a bit weird for a December album.
Looks more like a combo of cyberpunk and gothic (industrial to be specific) to me.

There's also K... Monster writte on the wall.
The lion here makes sense as Kuu talked about the lion standing for it at the Nagoya show.
And she was also hinting to rabbit for the other side.
L and R reversed.

I thought L and R could be related with LEFT and RIGHT... LOL hahahaha :innocent

Ayu_Love 21st October 2020 09:46 PM

I also thought it might have been 'left' and 'right', but 'lion' and 'rabbit' make so much more sense and are much better lmao. It also reminds me of the white rabbit costume she wore for one of the W FACE tour videos, and her bunny outfit at the beginning of her 2005 first things tour (as well as the blue and pink mascot outfits), so rabbits make sense since they seem to be a theme she has used throughout her career.

I also really love 'imagine', it's one of her favorite ballads of mine! Maybe it's because I had broken up with my partner of 5 years shortly before 'Bon Voyage' was released, and 'imagine' really soothed me at the time. I just think the melody is really nice as well!

It's probably an unpopular opinion, but I actually think her ballads from recent years are some of her best. I find most of the Japanese fan favourite ones a little boring for me, to be honest, although I do like 'Moon Crying'. I tend to really like her album ballads or B-side ballads, although they also only ever get performed either once at the album tour or never, sadly. :(

The different editions are not all counted together anyway on the charts.
The two minis are charting seperately and I suppose the FC edition is going to be counted together with the CD+DVD edition as the title and main content is the same. And that's what we will probably see charting higher - CD only editions are usually the ones being bought the least, especially here with them being mini only, not the full album.

Hi,

I'm here to help you. Of course you can order FC edition on playroom store, since AVEX publicly share the playroom (mobile fan club) store link.

https://shop.mu-mo.net/avx/sv/list1?...ateg_id=800207

Did you remember they cancel re(CORD) orders on KODA GUMI last year. I shared this playroom store to my American friend. She doesn't have playroom membership, but she still got the re(CORD) FC edition after all.

You don't need playroom membership to place an order, because they won't ask for your playroom membership number. You only need mu-mo account to place an order.

pommy48 23rd October 2020 10:09 AM

^ Thanks for the clarification!

I had to dig into my history to find where I saw the link, but Avex shared the FC mu-mo links at the bottom

chocopockymaster 23rd October 2020 02:40 PM

omg thank you for the link!!! I hope they don’t cancel my order lol

Ayu_Love 23rd October 2020 02:53 PM

Thanks so much for the link! I'm trying to decide if my wallet can handle the price of the FC edition since I predict it's going to be over £100 to buy it and get it shipped to me with all the costs. :(

I've never been able to get an FC edition before though, so I would love if my first one could be on her 20th anniversary. I do love photobooks too.

kaled kalil 24th October 2020 04:58 AM

Go To The Top was her last big era, and such a comeback. The pink hair, the iconic ViVi cover, the #1 single even tho it was a bundle with the Premium Night tour, the almost "too revealing" outfit for Kouhaku.

I was seriously expecting her to go Moon Crying route after giving birth, and then it came the ViVi cover looking hotter than ever.

kaled kalil 24th October 2020 03:53 PM

The choreo always felt very Maiko, nice to see she was the one behind it.

If anyone care, I found the demo of PARTY:

Still want to find Lola Blanc's Slay (W FACE) and Cherry on Top (KKXX), Cake (k,) from other produces.

thinkingoutloud89 24th October 2020 05:01 PM

It takes away from Kumis songwriting-skills when she is like only translating portions of it into japanese

kaled kalil 24th October 2020 05:25 PM

I mean, it's literally a party song, there is not much room left to change since she likes to keep the key words. I believe it gives a little more personality to the song than just plain singing the song in english, even tho sometimes the lyrics just doesn't make sense at all (ScREaM).

Even tho I'm not a huge fan of WHO, the lyrics were a major improvement than the generic "Imma bad bitch" type of song that it was.

From:

All I wanna do is turn up with my crew like ladi-dadi-dadi
We be living that fast life, this is what it feels like Ladi-dadi-dadii
Up town, downtown front row we partying LA to MIA
All we in the city all my girls looking pretty Scream ladi-dadi-dadi
(Even we don't give a)

To:

Who's worrying about stupid ratings? Who, who, who??
Happiness? Unhappiness? Yeah, the one who decides that is who, who, who??
Up down up down - a trip to my dreams, uhlala, where to?
I wanna stay as "me" Ladidadi dadi
(I never give up)

(from https://shinitakashi.blogspot.com/)

Surreal17 24th October 2020 07:19 PM

Lol I always forget that WHO is a Romanian song, (even though the original had English lyrics). It's still one of the best from AND.

mmhmm, thank you for that! always interested in demo versions, (wish I could find demos from ayu as well). so interesting! is there a collection of inks or videos where I can find all in one place?

and I agree with thinkingoutloud89 about her songwriting... very often it makes next to no sense how she jumbles seperate words of jaoanese and engrish together. I find it very jarring.

thinkingoutloud89 25th October 2020 11:22 AM

^other then the ones from Sweetbox (which exists as songs) ayu usually des not have demos since the tracks are written for her.

kaled kalil 25th October 2020 01:21 PM

^ Even if a song is written for her, that's still a demo. If she is not part of the composing credits, she probably isn't even in the studio while the song is created, which is very normal. As far I remember, she said a couple of times that she gets her demos without lyrics and then she writes around the melody.

Also, most of her western base songs have demo (Wake Me Up, Tell Me Why) and so on. Besides those, I think the closest that you might get to an Ayu demo, besides early mixes, would be those AX_WAT_156 or whatever that were upload on AVA.

sitara 25th October 2020 02:16 PM

ah, true, I forgot about sweetbox!
and I don't know about AVA, have to look that up.

sorry for slight OT-ness.

thinkingoutloud89 25th October 2020 02:42 PM

^^yeah but it is different for her most of the time. You're completely right with what you say but most of these don't get out, compared to these Kumi ones, which already have lyrics and stuff. You know what I mean?

edit: tho, to me, what has been posted for Kumi (like on the page before) aren't really demos for me, but full blown songs.

Gustavopc 26th October 2020 03:17 PM

She posted some more pics with the caption "Kil...", I guess the song is called "Killer"? It looks a bit like watch out, which is ok to me, just hope it doesnt sound like it

When composers makes a demo song they usually have a demo singers, sometimes it's one of the composers as well. All of this is marketed as a demo to potential artists to record the song.

To use few examples.

NEW AGE from FAKY probably has a version with Kumi's vocals, since she's one of the writers of the song. It doesn't mean that she recorded for her own use, as for that it can be still called a demo if it ever come out. This is just how music.

Also, this is probably her way to own her material as well. She probably doesn't get much money from POP DIVA, which wasn't written by her, but it's a different case for Lollipop where she has credits for it.

---

^ Maybe it's just Kill, either way it would "match" with the message from her jacket in the other picture.

And yeah, it gives WATCH OUT/HAIRCUT vibes for sure. The outfit is cool, and the choreo is probably from Fuko, since it seems like she's one of the dancers there.

Gustavopc 26th October 2020 05:52 PM

She looks stunning in the new shooting, seems like Kimi Omoi meets again

thinkingoutloud89 26th October 2020 08:47 PM

^^yeah, but I still think that most of Ayus demos, or demos from japan, don't have that in general. The FAKY one is different because Kumi wrote it herself, as for ayu: she always said she gets some type of melody or instrumental and writes the lyrics.

Demo songs with lyrics usually sell both (as seen in cases of Kumis western demos). And I think there are more instrumentals without any lyrics then songs with guide tracks. RUN DEVIL RUN by GG was a Kesha song, but she didn't saw it fit so it had lyrics because it was in a different stage of production - as it probably is with most demos. Either they are considered a full song (and that is why they have lyrics in an unpolished stage) or they are just instrumentals. Both exist.

.. so, it still does not change my original post. Most of such demos don't exist for ayu outside of what she shared.

I totally missed that lmao

I hate those pants/chaps/whatever you want to call them. Like, I want to burn them. They are so insanely unflattering.

Imagine if it were Killer Money and it criticized capitalism like Rina Sawayama's XS (while the fc edition is being sold at 11k yen)

Corvina 28th October 2020 05:37 PM

Yeah, it's the cold part of the shooting she mentioned before.
She also says she never shot in such a deep pool before in her 20 year career.
And calls herself a Kyoto Kappa. :laugh

haha me too!. I was waiting for a sign and I think this is it. I can't with kumi referencing mermaids or underwater themes... it's just her element.

The info describes RUN as a song about her thoughts she has been singing in 20 years, so like a summary or a recapitulation with a message for all the people supporting her. Another personal Kuu song it seems.
It also says that RUN is representative for the theme of the mini-albums.

The most important (personal) song at the beginning of her career was "walk" and now she's concluding with "RUN".
Imo they will probably be connected.

cosmicfirefly 30th October 2020 10:01 AM

Excited for the new albums, love the concept!

Gustavopc 30th October 2020 01:33 PM

I am assumming the song she teased before earlier this year is Sing the truth, I think I can hear that during the chorus (I thought it was "seeing the truth" btw). And also happy that for is there!

RUN sounds okay, another WALK OF MY LIFE/NO ME WITHOUT YOU/NEVER ENOUGH kind of song. But it's just a teaser, let's see when the whole comes out. Plus the shots are stunning.

kaled kalil 30th October 2020 01:39 PM

Submit your questions to Sora's Sempai Club, it's not limited to japanese questions just like other Sora's interviews. :)

Do you know where to find this preview of "Sing the truth"?

Ayu_Love 30th October 2020 05:02 PM

The preview for 'RUN' is so gorgeous, I absolutely love everything about the visuals with all the bright colours, and the sound of these albums so far. I will deffo have to get the FC edition with the Photobooks.

Kuu has done a few songs the past couple years now which follows the theme of 'being herself' and sending that message to people to 'be themselves' even if they are criticized or aren't as popular for it, and I am honestly here for every single one. It's a nice breath of fresh air to a typical love song and a message I think a lot of people can appreciate right now.

KarenPang 30th October 2020 05:49 PM
