Besides 'Wings' and a teaser of 'Trigger', majority is under wraps.
I'm intrigued on the sound of the EP as a whole. Only three days away! However I'll be waiting until after the release of 'Remember you' as I've ordered 'Wings' with that and they'll ship together. |
Previews of all songs were actually up at HMV this week.
They're gone again now though, I don't really know why... The 3 songs after the interlude seem to be a nice change to the first part, Heaven Tonight being a midtempo R&B/house influenced track and It's "K" magic an upbeat electronic pop song. As it's the song written for the baseballplayer Kuroki, you can find previews from the song playing in the stadium when he's playing on youtube. All three of those songs seem to be rather unconvential in structure. For Hello Yesterday Koda Gumi already got the first two minutes of the track in advance a while ago. The drama it's the theme song for started now though, so we have the TV size of it officially: https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1Qe...92a941951419d1 A classic J-Pop midtempo with classical instruments. |

Haven't seen pictures of display stands like that in what feels like forever. |

Oh man the Wings & Trigger PVs contrast each other so well
I'm not surprised both PVs are interconnected plot wise |

^all previews are out tho
|
I just listened to the EP. I really like it, there are no skips in my opinion. My favourite tracks after a first listen are Trigger and Heaven Tonight.
|
This is such a great release. I just shipped my FC edition from tenso. I can't wait for it to arrive. :luv2 :luv2
|
I listened to previews before. At that time, I really liked all the songs. However, ater listening to whole songs on youtube, I don't like much Heaven Tonight and Hello Yesterday sounds indifferent to me. Let's talk about songs I like
Wings : Simple but I like the message and how she plays with her vocal on the 2nd verse is beautiful. Also. PV makes this song more pleasant to listen. Trigger : This is the gem on this EP. I have told I loved it at the first listen and the whole song is perfect, catchy even it sounds experimental. PV which is a contrast to Wings is good idea, would be better with choreography. It's K magic : I love cheerful and sporty song by Kumi such as Dreaming Now, Eh Yo so this song cannot be skipped with good production. Black Wing (interlude) : never disappointed by her Introductions or Interludes Overall : This is her album (or EP) in years I can say I LOVE EVERYTHING after DNA (probably because of small number of song hahaha). I was wondering if there will be another second part coming up next and what will it be like :D |
WINGS debuted at #5 on the 1st day of release
And Oricon counts it under the Album category https://tieba.baidu.com/p/8226071166 |
Hey there everyone, I won the lottery for the angeL&monsteR tour at 09/04 but in the email I received, it seems the only way to pay for the tickets is going to a Lawson or Ministop physically and pay for it. There’s no way to pay for it online. Is that so? Does anyone know? :(
|

That's the last Q&A listed on the page so :s |
Damn, 5 years have passed since I went to Japan for shows and it seems they still don't want foreigners at the concerts... why it's so hard
|
Wait, now I'm really confused, I thought being part of the fanclub was enough to secure tickets to her tour (see my question on the previous page), now we need to be in Japan way before the concert to pay at Lawson?
Now that's very disappointing... Why can't global members use LivePocket like TeamAyu, so that we can pay for tickets online instead of a store in Japan? I was planning to join the fanclub just for the tickets... |
^ Global FC members do use LivePocket. I won for April 9 and it just charged the card/paypal I had on file automatically.

Sorry to say, but FC lotteries are already over. As some of the dates are marked as sold out already for the regular preorder lottery right now, we most probably won't get 2nd rounds. :/ |
Just listened to the EP and it's very nice !!
I'm really in love with Trigger and It's K Magic ! Love the interlude too. Wings is nice, especially with the PV ! But the others two songs are pretty dull in my opinion, easily forgettable |

Wings falls to 24 on oricon chart today and 3rd sale is 1900+. I understand the era has changed but it is really hard to admit that her sale has declined this much. Her rank today is lower than many albums released before or many years ago. I hope she can have another hit song, Wings (song) seems to have that potential but it doesn't happen :(
|
WINGS EP definitely deserved so much more
It's the same thing with heart . I really like the album but for it to stay on Oricon less than a month , that's beyond awful Solo artistes in Japan cannot sell well physically anymore but both Ayu & Kuu still continue to do successful tours so all hope's not lost Come the day if Kuu do a tour or concert & if nobody show up to support her , I will be more worried |
Nowadays her sales are basically preorders from her fanbase, casual listeners won't buy those anymore. Trust Last may behave differently cause of the tie-in tho but I don't think it'll pass onto her following releases. And I agree WINGS had more potential but in my point of view they wasted it with the odd timing regarding the title track... I mean, the short ver came out on YT July 1st, and just now we got a full video which is having less views than Sure shot (which had no tie-in at all). I get that she is doing what she likes with waaay less pressure than before, and probably she won't get back to that anymore, but still it seems like a waste of opportunities which didn't require much from her :/
This aside, I agree with Karen that touring is what matters in the end. She also has huge hits which give her money through karaoke and streaming services, so there must be a balanced income which does not depend on CDs phyiscal sales anymore. Guess that's why her releases always have those cool FC versions now, since the general public doesnt care anymore she is doing these basically for her fanbase. |
Yes it felt a bit too late to release WINGS physically especially since Wings was released digitally last Aug
I guess Kuu only managed to make the PVs for both Wings & Trigger after she finished doing overseas touring If that didn't happen , WINGS could have been released almost end of last year in time for Christmas As for the fanclub version issue , I realised that became a lot more prominent after the COVID-19 pandemic started It's not just Kuu , that also apply to BREAKERZ as well Anyway I'm surprised avex release the full PVs for both Wings & Trigger on YouTube , I didn't expect that O_o |
Since they started uploading her MVs for her 20th anniv on YT all music videos have been there in full as well iirc so it doesn't surprise me. Last era with those awful short versions was re(CORD), I guess they finally got over it lol
|
Not only really interesting, especially for people not following her much, but also great promo:
Also, the long great interview about the mini and the tour wasn't shared here yet as well: https://rhythmzone.net/koda/discogra...iew_202301.php Really interesting as well, like Heaven Tonight is about a friend she lost last year and she had more songs she wanted to put on the mini, but then she would have too much songs to sing at the tour. :laugh So basically the tour will consist of songs of the three minis as well as heart and probably some old songs in between. |
It's so touching how the Switch connected her to her son, and I feel so warm inside when she talks about it cause during the "lockdown" times it also brought me and my husband closer together. He was never into games and stuff, but the Switch looked fun to
him (especially Animal Crossing) and he finally gave it a try in 2020. About the tour, I'm so ready for all monsteR songs to be performed, Killer monsteR and WORK IT! have so much potention for amazing performances. I can also picture Trigger having great moments, the hand-ography pre-chorus from the video is promising! |
I was so confused about WINGS, I was sure it's just a double single at first, I was expecting instrumentals etc. I added Change my future to the forder and I can't how good both Wings and CMF are, I usually have those two on repeat. Hello Yesterday is so-so so far so I always got back to W/CMF but at some point I listened to it on loop and It's ''K'' magic despite starting horribly is pretty good after few moments. Need to listen to Trigger some more, I like it but the other three get me going for now. I need to use the time left before Ayu's album appears.
|
Speaking of Change my future, avex released a movie PV for it:

Every time I see her performance on chart, I will always be wondering if there was no that controversy or taking a break by pregnancy during Japonesque, would her popularity be more than now or even close to Second session - Black Cherry? She was quite solid then.:headache |
I guess it was more her controversy rather than the pregnancy cause she didnt even stop that much, there was beach mix in july and two singles in the second semester of 2012... Like even in that GQ video I saw a hateful comment throwing it back to the controversy and it's been more than 15 years. I have a cousin living in Japan since 2005 (or 2006? idk) and she said it was crazy how Kumi was all over the place right before Kingdom came out, in lots of CMs, billboards, magazines and TV appearances, and in the blink of an eye everything was gone. Like she had disappeared or erased. It made me so mad to hear that :(
|
I think if she hadn't made those statements, her trajectory of success would have been drawn out more, but I don't think she'd be #1 today. She probably would have seen more like Ayu's trajectory where she peaks and then has a solid 10+ years where she's still relatively toward the top of things (#1 singles, albums, videos, lots of magazines and promo, etc.). But ultimately music is typically a young person's game, since that's the audience that spends the most money on it. It would have been inevitable for her popularity to decrease.
That said, I think the public opinion of her is relatively good - she's supportive of younger and new artists, she's always on TV and does a lot of collab performances, etc. If anything, I think it's just that people don't think of her as active artist these days, or just aren't interested in her music. She's very "cool" and could pull in a younger audience, but I think it would take a more pop-forward music approach to really get more traction. I could very easily see her having a Namie-like comeback if she wasn't making music she wanted to, and instead focused only on success. But I'm much happier that she's doing what makes her happy, personally. |
I will not lie , I do miss the old days when Ayu & Kuu were literally everywhere but what avex did with over promoting them do backfired to a certain extent
That also unfortunately happened to GIRL NEXT DOOR too The last decade or so , Johnnys , AKB & LDH family trees have dominated sales wise & rarely solo acts are able to sell well Even those who've been around for in the business even longer than Kuu such as Fukuyama Masaharu-san also face the same problem but his solo tours still sell well As Corvina said in the previous page of the thread , the 1st round of fanclub ticket balloting for Kuu's duo angeL/monsteR tour was quite high in demand I think if Kuu want to get more people to like her music , she would have done this a long time ago & not now And I feel Kuu is now at a point in her life that she want to do things that she geniunely wants to do & not what avex make her want to do Besides now with social media , it's 1 avenue that non fans get to find out about her & also her music That happened to Kuu's cover of COMPLEX's Megumi no Hito which unexpectedly got a boost in online popularity So something like this can happen again , you never know |
I mean she looks better than ever, the people gotta give her that. Lol.
|

She was talking on the Q&A of Koda Gumi these days how much she is thinking about spending time with her son while he's still a kid and with her (maybe he wants to travel abroad for college? couldn't quite get what she meant), so she is probably doing music nowadays just cause she loves it, not to delivery hits and tire herself with promotion schedules. |
Kuu will be featured on next Sat's MUSIC FAIR

2nd Koda Gumi (Japanese) FC lottery for the tour is happening now till Wednesday.
8 concerts are sold out already or such few tickets left, chances to win tickets are close to zero (the first two in Osaka, the first two in Aichi, all 4 Tokyo dates). Speaking of the Tokyo dates - I'm really intrigued by this new venue, Tachikawa Stage Garden. It has a capacity between 2,500 and 3,000, opened right in the middle of the pandemic in 2020, was designed mainly for pop concerts (innovative stage design possible), is run privately and openly designed with the back wall being able to be opened, so you can actually use the space outside for people to watch a concert, too (increasing capacity with further 630 seats). So I hope they're recording one of the Tokyo dates, even though the final is in Gunma, just because I wanna see this, lol. Some TV performaces were announced as well. Kuu is going to perform Wings at Buzzrhythm02 on February 3rd and Hello Yesterday and TATTOO with 星屑スキャット (a drag queen trio) on Music Fair February 4th. |
Quote:
All I know is I can't wait to see how she'll perform Killer monsteR and WORK IT!, really need those to be hightlight moments with cool choreo and outfits. Was also wondering if she'll pick fans to the stage like she used to, or if covid-19 would still be a problem. She could even apply the dual theme to it, a soft singin by your side moment in angel and a lap dance-ish moment in monster :P |
A bit late but I’m quite happy with WINGS. All songs are different but nice to listen all together and the complete mini is cohesive.
I even love songs I thought I wouldn’t care like Hello Yesterday or It’s K magic. Good job Kumi! |

Has anyone had any success or recommendations around using a middleman to apply for a lottery through eplus or ticket pia? I have my ticket, but now my boyfriend and friend think they might want to come and those are the only ticket options left, which I obviously can't get myself from outside of Japan.

Got a fanclub e-ticket, first row in the first level balcony in Toyama. I can personally recommend, but I don't know if they handle Kuu's tickets as well, if it's not too late etc... You can still ask for a (free) quotation and see if they can help. Good luck ! |

ANNOUNCEMENT: I just got an email from the KODA GUMI FC saying that KODA GUMI is being terminated as of the end of this month due to the introduction of the phone app. I might be wrong but I had heard the app is only available to fans in Japan in Japanese. If so, the jerks at avex are screwing us international fans over again.
|
^ You can register.
First you have to register for the site. There's a field that asks for location and only lists Japanese prefectures, but you can skip that field. Once you've registered you have to pay for the membership, but they accept international credit cards and don't ask for a billing address. |
Quote:
|
It's all in the e-mail they sent - here's the relevant part:
★"KK App" fan community app★ 1 month plan 1,250 yen (tax included) 6 month plan 7,250 yen (tax included) 1 Year Plan 13,750 yen (tax included) ■"KK App" Monthly Paid Membership Benefits ・Participation in all KK App exclusive live broadcasts ・Comment on and view members-only chats ・Purchase app-only merchandise ・Ticket Advance Reservations and more…!! ▼For more information on the "KK App", click here! https://www.koda-kumi-app.com ---------- EDIT: The app itself isn't available outside of Japan from what I can tell (at least not for Android). So computer only for now. |
You can't use the app directly as an international fan, at least for now.
You can register and pay for it if you have a Japanese apple ID - but no idea if applying for tickets and buying goods actually work with that, too. The KK app is the replacement for playroom. And as the global FC is based on playroom and the number of international fans is probably pretty slim, they just stop it altogether. |
Considering I mostly used the FC to purchase merchandise and the FC editions of albums and concert blurays that's very pricey. Guess I'll have to resort to using mercari or Yahoo to find em 2nd hand...
Hopefully I can find a way to get concert tickets in the future. |
WKKW put together a guide for downloading the KK App outside of Japan:
http://www.welcometokodakumiworld.com/howto/KKapp101 Honestly though, it's not really worth paying for and using at this time if you can't read Japanese. That might change as it rolls out more though. As an aside, I e-mailed Koda Gumi asking how international fans were supposed to use the app if they couldn't download it, considering the e-mail from them said the international fanclub would be replaced with it. Typically, they were incredibly unhelpful and basically resent the announcement email and then said to contact KK App directly if I had any questions about them. So I sent another e-mail via the site...we'll see if they are any more helpful, but I'm not expecting it. It does really seem like international fans are being left behind with this one. I'm surprised they'd shut it down while she's on a tour that offered tickets for international fanclub members. |
Quote:
|
^ It's true. There are already so many unnecessary hoops to jump through to get tickets, and international fans have so many fewer opportunities to get tickets (honestly I get that various sites can't provide customer support in other languages, but there's no reason foreigners shouldn't be allowed to enter all of the various lotteries through eplus, ticket pia, lawson, etc. Even if they don't want to accept foreign credit cards, which is stupid, they could take Paypal). I'd be really sad if this is the last time I get to see her, because I was fully expecting to go back for her 25th anniversary a couple years from now.

We overseas fans always have been at a disadvantage from the get go
And the COVID-19 pandemic didn't do any good for avex as they lost so much $ even though prior they were already not doing well Yet this type of thing still happens , now ? really ? ~_~ As what ILoveGeniuses wrote , I don't think this current situation is in Kuu's control . I'm sure she knows about this to some extent but she's probably powerless in something like this cos end of the day , the higher up's in avex are the ones deciding what's best (or in this case worst) for the company's overall interest If so , this's not doing avex any good . We overseas fans are the ones who're very willing to want to buy Kuu's CDs , mechanise & now fly to Japan to see her perform But this can't be done & not because we're financially unable but it's due to avex & their ridiculous red tapes they put in place in order to protect their own domestic's interests ? Typical Japanese way of doing business ~_~ |
^Completely agree. And I hate to say it, but the only way to change it would be something drastic that could easily do a lot more harm than good, which I'd never do.
One thing I don't get as well though, and maybe avex is doing it to recover from money losses is the yearly subscription to the app is WAY MORE than the ¥2000 they charged for the old Playroom and Koda Gumi. I really can't see there being WAY SUPER more to the app that would be worth paying that much more for mostly the same sorta thing. Seems like an avex money grab to me. |
^ Unfortunately but true
I think it's not just avex's fault . A lot of record companies in Japan lost $ during COVID-19 except for Amuse You would have think the pandemic would change the way Japanese companies does business but sadly it is still a no And they still do almost everything via paper if not fax ~.~ ==== Extra date added to KODA KUMI LIVE TOUR 2023 ~angeL&monsteR~ 30th July (Sun) @ Tokyo @ Tokyo Kokusai Forum Hall A https://twitter.com/KODAKUMINET/stat...29168561152001 https://rhythmzone.net/koda/news/detail.php?id=1106840 |

I don't know if it already run out or I had no luck to buy it even I came this far :') This is a photo of what showed on screen https://imgz.io/images/2023/05/12/Sc...270fe7.th.jpeg |
Just want to update that finally I could attend her concert and it could be one of the best day in my life. This is my third time attending her concert after Bon Voyage and W Face, I can tell I love this time the most by setlist and my seat that was on the first floor, close enough to see her make up and expression without watching screen.
With low budget and age, Kumi is still the queen of live to perform energetically and create the show really enjoyable. Her voice that I thought it would be ruined but she sang every song perfectly, even hit that hard note of Wings to end Monster Tour flawlessly. I chose only one show because I would not like to get back to Fukuoka late (the show takes approximately 2 hours) and I was so happy that I could stay with her til the last song because for W Face I left before she talked and sang Walk (that almost 10pm). Wings is the good choice to finish the show, I cried like the heavy rain outside the hall hahaha. If you are looking for the chance to see her, I will say please don't worry about the ticket (if you don't care about the seat position too). For W-Face, I could get it at Lawson one day before the tour and both W Face and this one, there was a ticket sale on site as I grabbed mine. P.s. Kokura is such a lovely town, happy to roam around before and after concert. Thank you Kuuchan to bring me to this community too <3 My photo at the concert https://imgz.io/images/2023/05/13/IM...13_222131.jpeg |
I'm so glad you made it to the show! I really loved seeing her on this tour, and while I had preference for the monsteR setlist, the angeL show was actually a lot more fun. I think she really shines in small venues in a way that others don't. She just knows how to make the best of the space.
I also thought her voice was in great shape (though she had a heavy back track). Her performance of Walk of My Life was souch smoother than usual. I love that song and I was so happy she managed to get all the hard notes. |
