Had a blast at the show - slight pity about the lack of “big announcement”, but the show itself was excellent.

Set list seemed to have a really rock vibe to it.

Highlights for me were 100% the opening and Tell All.

The ballad section a bit of a let down to be honest, I think something like Jewel instead of Beloved maybe would have made it better for me, I dunno. Overall vocals were great, she lost it a bit at the start of Heartplace but that is a difficult song I suppose.

Low point was Humming 7/4, such an awful song hahaha

Edit: Also Ayu’s mother was in the first row of the stand, before Ayu came on she was waving and everyone was screaming for her lol

thinkingoutloud89 8th April 2023 02:15 PM

Regardless what people say, it may be big news on a way but was it really necessary to make such a big deal about it. I guess that is what flips people off, including me. Also it isn’t that hard to get around in Japan since she played in a lot of big city. “Excluding” is a bit dramatic when talking about fabs from certain prefectures. In Germany bigger acts usually only play in the same three big cities.

rainbow_smile 8th April 2023 02:37 PM

90% of her fanbase are Japanese, so of course they'd be at the front of her mind when she does stuff and makes announcements. I can definitely imagine this being big news for her japanese fans and that's her core fanbase. Not sure why she chose to announce that in English though.

Edit: for all we know, the big "news" might've been her finally letting go of hating hamasaki ayumi, which may sound trivial to some, but this kind of acceptance can be a huge stepping stone for a person, and hence it would be a big deal for her

I had that thought too but since she announced that 4 month ago this whole “mental barrier” thing isn’t as huge anymore if you choose to make a show out of it. Don't get me wrong - it may be huge for her to do that but the whole circumstances woukd take away from that.

Well, I just came back to my hotel after the show and I need to say it was a wonderful experience. It was the kind of show I was expecting to see when I came to the 20th anniversary.

The setlist is already here so it came with some fan favorites, all her commemorative songs and her usual staples. The outfits were great (although some of the dancers were recycled from CDL as I noticed) and it had the anniversary “feeling”. Let me explain.

Before GAME, she made a mashup of many tour videos, finishing with the GAME video from AT2005, so the performance of it as well as My Name Is Women were recreations from the AT05. I thought at that moment that she was going to do something like Best of CDL. But didn’t happen. Instead, she created new performances and all the show interludes were remixes or instrumentals of many songs, and they were well mixed and blended.

There are all around the show some snippets and reuses of some of her previous works. Like, in Alterna, the idea of Real Me’s MV puppets is there. On evolution, the screen uses the single’s font. On Mirrorcle World, the AT08’s ship appears on the screen. You can feel that she put some work on it.

I don’t know if they already returned on the CDL but the live band is on. :)

My only complaint was the audio quality at the arena. It was so loud and sometimes it was very difficult to hear anything. Since there are some noisy songs, when they put it live it was a total mess :P

Her voice was good in most part of the show (beloved was incredible since she could listen herself well enough), she nailed the new songs (VIBEES and Just The Way You Are) and the lowest part definitely was As If, she tried to emulate a higher pitch and it was off and she was kinda lost at this song. Ah, Lady Dynamite was definitely my personal favorite with all the drags on stage representing her at different eras.

So, to sum up, an incredible show. I missed A Song for XX but well, she sang in many others shows so it’s ok hahaha
I can’t wait to watch the concert again, it was an epic experience since I was on the first seat next to the central stage. Never thought in my life that I would watch her so close. :luv2

That is why I recommended ear plugs. I was wearing them and could enjoy and hear everything without distortion or hurting my ears.

Same! I haven't seen an Ayu concert in a while so I was like "Where's Enrique? WHERE'S YOCCHAN!?!?" It was so sweet to see him delivering her flowers. Their on stage energy is so warm and inviting.

I also loved when her mama mode kicked in holding the lil child. That alone would have convinced me that she would announce retirement 😂

Yea her holding the child was so cute!!! I almost thought it was her son. 😂

YUKARI 8th April 2023 08:34 PM

I love this big news actually :D

I had experience living for 1 year in Sapporo (Hokkaido) in 2012-2013 and I remember Namie came there with her 20th-anniversary dome tour and also AKB48 and Arashi came but ayu never did. if I was still living there, I would be sooo happy and excited! :luv2

I kinda love this idea of touring every 47 prefectures in Japan. makes me think that she wants to gain back her popularity in Japan :P I'm so relieved she didn't announce her retirement or didn't say that tour would be the last. I guess she'll be like Seiko Matsuda, not like Namie Amuro. I only hope that her health will be OK so she can manage all concerts in all prefectures without any problems :heart

The Yochan surprise was very real for Ayu.

It's not what we expected (she even trolled us showing Earth globe before the announcement lol), but she wasn't making much ado for nothing, it's really big for her and her fanbase.

thank you, this was how I've been taking the news, as well. the all-47-prefecture tour is unprecedented ("first") and probably not something she will attempt again ("last"). to me, the news makes sense. plus I'm just relieved that she wasn't announcing a retirement.

thesweetseason 8th April 2023 11:55 PM

The show was great but it wasn't my favourite. I think it was just because I got shafted with bad seats again. I cried when Yochan gave her the flowers!

I'm glad she's doing a tour of all of the prefectures. It gives me more of a chance to get better seats and I don't have to fly up to Tokyo, haha. I'm currently groggy in the airport.

Aokani 9th April 2023 12:58 AM

The Heartplace is sooo good. And the Alterna too. I need a videos of them with eng lyrics. What do people do nowadays to add lyrics to videos?

AyuCanada 9th April 2023 04:14 AM

I don’t know how vocals sounded on abrma TV but in the arena, she sounded fine and even if she didn’t on the high notes, it was nearly impossible to tell as the music was so loud the sound was distorted. But it wasn’t bothering me, it was just really loud, loved the live band sound over pre-recorded anytime

tokyoxjapanxfan 9th April 2023 05:32 AM

I had terrible seats, 2nd floor towards the back lol.
And the screens were barely visible, and I could barely make out her face lol

But, I’m glad I went. I was very happy and surprised to see Yocchan :heart

I guessed the surprise though haha it’s really a great thing for her to do for her Japanese fans. I plan to go to a few of the shows! Would looove to go to one in Okinawa and combine it with a little vacation haha.

In terms of the set list though, well… honestly a bit sad she didn’t sing any of the songs during the strings section. Literally all the ones I was hoping to hear lol. But I loved Lady Dynamite, and was happy to hear Game, alterna and heartplace!

OK, I am going to receive hate for this as always, but it was an ordinary Ayu concert vocal-wise. Ear plugs let me hear all her misses. She did very good on some ballads, singing in a quiet way, but overall lots of screaming, going off-key, improper technique, baby voice, forced vibrato, struggling with high notes, etc. Nothing like her pre-recorded TV performances which tend to be actually good. But the show itself was very enjoyable. It felt great to be allowed to sing along again. We were going wild during the remix section. And dancers came to our seats multiple times.
Camera operator was next to us and he was filming 2 foreign girls in cosplay. He zoomed in into a necklace for like a minute.
Monitors with song lyrics were very visible on stages, it was fun to watch them.
MC was very funny, especially when ayu asked if Yocchan planned to eat the whole cake. And holding a baby moment was adorable.

elvesword 9th April 2023 08:48 AM

Although I did feel a little bit sad when she announced the 47 tours in Japan instead of Asia Tour(fan from Taiwan), later I thought her fans across Japan didn't miss her less than us, of course she will need to meet them before she goes on any further tour plans...

Cuz I'm also the fan of Adele, I had already give up the thought that she will hold a world tour LOL

Anyways I've been waiting for Ayu fro 15 years, I can still wait...LOL

That’s not what that means. She wrote, “I hate ‘Hamasaki ayumi’”. Tore it up and threw it away. Meaning she has decided to embrace her stage/product persona.

I had great seats right next to VIP area. Naoya was there as well as her mother. Was personally hoping for Gackt but oh well.

I think that is what Aderianu meant with: 'and going to stop it', to stop hating Ayumi Hamasaki.

‘Stop hating Ayumi hamasaki’ does that refers that to herself to stop hating herself? Or was it meant for the everyone else to stop hating her?

What a great show! It definitely felt like it was for the fans as it wasn't as staple heavy as the 15th anni show! Alterna!! As If & Dolls were very unexpected too and WOW what a moment with Lady Dynamite!

The only songs I could have done without were You & Me and Beloved. Beloved doesn't do a lot for me and I felt a better ballad could have taken it's place. You & Me I do enjoy but it being after Leilo just made it feel like any other Ayu concert to me instead of an anniversary show.

I actually really enjoyed the aerial stunts too. I usually find it a bit cliche (kinda feel everyone started doing it after Pink did but I'm prob exaggerating there!) but it really worked here and looked stunning!

From hearing folks' thoughts on Just The Way You Are I wasn't expecting to be my sort of song but I am enjoying it more on the album than I thought and is a good concert ender!
