The tracklist for "Veselye Ulybki" was released by management today:
There is a PDF album press release to be had on the Taty.ru homepage, and a quick look reveals the astronaut cover to be a slipcase of some sort, as was speculated. We don't know, however, what's under it!

One thing that strikes me is that the tracklist has grown from the previously-reported 10 to 12, picking up some mysterious new songs in the process. I'm especially curious about "Marsianskiye Glaza."

Although the press release confirms that the album will be available from SHOP.TATY.RU, no "real" date was given, though October was very strongly hinted at from the wording in the article (they said the name was changed "one month from the release").

*Apparently, this title appears in both English and Russian, depending on which "side" of the site you download the PDF from. Because of that, we don't really know which language it will be in. I'm guessing Russian, though.

looking at that pdf document, i'm curious to see what they do with all their "waste management" photos -- the don't exactly match with the asian astronaut chick...

I just listened to the premiere of their new single "You and I" on Love Radio!

There was an announcer who kept interrupting every minute or so (to prevent anyone recording a clean copy), but I could still tell the song was AMAZING. :D

I really hope it hasnt been delayed... but honestly, he could have just talked to a stockman who had no idea what he was talking about.

I think that's probably what happened, but I also think there might be some problems with the printing process (as there was with the "Beliy Plaschik" single).

I'm not giving up on this album even if it's released NEXT YEAR, though, since I know they're sitting on the best thing they've ever done.

t.A.T.u. have never made a song I didn't like, so I have no fears with this upcoming album. I don't think all the delays have anything to do with lack of confidence in the album, its more so that they are just lazy lol

I think it has to do with abortion. Like, people say abortion is really cruel and say that people who have had an abortion have sined and whatnot (basically putting the would be mother infront of a fireing squad)... while the people who support abortion (the people on the balcony in the video) and actually preform the abortion (Lena + fireing squad) don't get as much hate.

There are a lot of ways to look into it, that one makes the most sence to me.

I think it just goes further into the fact that the people who preform the abortions are no better than the people who are getting the abortions, or maybe they are even worse. Lena is a prostitute while Yulia is cleaning herself and drinking the wine/vodka.

The girls were in Poland last Friday on a polish music awards show - "Viva Comet 2008". They received a special award and sung three songs - "White Robe", "200" and "All The Things She Said". It was probably the first time I heard "ATTSS" sung live and not playbacked. They were a little off and they did almost nothing on the scene but I enjoyed watching them.

Lena looked cool, Julia had long hair (extensions maybe?) and I didn't really liked the way she looked.

Lol, I have just read it on a few different forums. I highly, highly doubt its true... but still... some news (even if its fake) is better than no news. lol

i must say the album is really strange. i don't know what to think about it it yet....
it's pleasant, bot none of the new songs is a "hit song that i want to listen on repeat for 3 hours".
My fav is the "fly" so far. Will give the album few more listens tomorrow. I am sure it will grow on me.

I really love "Ne Zhaley", "Running Blind", and "You And I" the most. The others still need some time to sink in, but I liked them as well. :heart:

haven't fully listened to the album, but so far i love Fly on the Wall!

On my second listen through and it's quite...interesting. Nothing ground-breaking or even omg from them, but it's still...well it has quite a bit of personality. It's very dark and sounds like something good to listen to when you're angry/depressed. I think my favorite new songs are Running Blind and Fly On the Wall.

on first listen id have to say im not shocked or surprised by the album, they kept us waiting for so long and didn't even deliver anything spectacular. I still say Dangerous and Moving is their best effort so far. but this is my personal opinion.

Listened to it and thought it's okay, but not something I would say is worth waiting that long of a time for. I liked Ne Zhaley a lot and Running Blind was pretty okay, though. Anyone else here think the songs were a lil' short? Like it's verse-chorus-verse-chorus-END-next song (or something like that for most of them.)

*sigh* sadly I've got to agree... I expected more... but I feared we'd get something like this. It's still a good album, but I expected more from t.A.T.u.

In other news, I was going to wait until I had the CD in my hands to listen to the songs, but in the end I couldn't resist and spoiled myself with the leak. I'm very pleased that my prediction that this would be their best album came true (at least for me). Their style has gone even further into the dark synthpop territory they explored on "Lyudi Invalidy," and that makes me very happy! They actually sound a lot like Ladytron on a few tracks, and the interlude in the middle reminds me of the instrumental tracks on Depeche Mode albums. My only complaint is that it's only about 40 minutes long, but I guess I'd much rather have quality over quantity.

Unfortunately, as much as I want to, I'm not allowing myself to listen to the album again until my copy arrives. I feel a little bad for ruining the surprise, and I want to make sure that the day it comes stays special. :)

I actually really enjoyed the album. the songs do seem short sometimes but thats not so bad. The synthpop sound they went for is awesome, cause that's the kind of music I try and make. I absolutely LOVE "Fly On The Wall". It's an amazing song with an awesome hook. Overall the album is fantastic.

I'm not going to DL it, I'm just going to wait until my copy arrives :D

Nothing much really going at all professionally with t.A.T.u. The girls did a small question and answer thing around December 2008 where they were asked info on the release date of the album and they said that they weren't sure and weren't going to say anything so that they don't go through that hell they did with the Russian album's release date. Yulia's lips sure look puffy... but i'm hoping the rest is just poor lighting/angles/makeup that is making the rest of her face look a tad wrong.

There's lots of pics from that premiere though where she looks basically like that. She's definitely been doing her lips, she admitted that... but a lot of people are screaming botox due to her face being a bit stiff and immobile. I'm not so sure about that, but her face does look a bit odd when she smiles now.

Yesterday, the official site reported that t.A.T.u. will cease working together on a "full-time basis" because both Yulia and Lena want to pursue solo projects.

Here's the official statement (I cleaned up the grammar and formatting a bit)

It's disappointing, but I can't say I'm surprised. In all my years of following bands, I have never seen one as uncoordinated and inefficient as t.A.T.u. has been for the last few years. Amazingly, in spite of this, their latest album was actually really fantastic. They truly wasted some great stuff by refusing to promote it.

Furthermore, the fact that Lena is the one to have her career somewhat in order does not surprise me in the least. She always seemed like the more "rational" one, and I wish her all the best in her future adventures. I hope things work out for her (even though the Russian music business is really volatile, especially for artists that want to cross over into the American market) and that we see her solo album soon. I'll check it out and keep tabs on her career regardless, but I hope her future music keeps the electronic rock style that t.A.T.u. made famous. The fact that she's decided to keep working with t.A.T.u.'s live band is a good sign, though.

However, I feel this is truly the end of the road for Yulia. I strongly suspect that she was the driving force behind this split, because there is plenty of evidence that suggests she is extremely hard to deal with. Her sinister boytoy, Parviz Yasinov (the "businessman") most likely plays a role as well. It is well known in the Russian press that his ex-wife was also a singer who was forced to give up her career when she married him. Even if Yulia wants to start a solo project, she is probably in a situation she has little control over. This is a shame, because I always liked her voice a bit more than Lena's.

Lastly, the new editions of "Veselye Ulybki" sound interesting. I hope there are NEW remixes on the Amazon version ("Snegopady," please!) and that they consider making it a double-disc set with the Russian and English versions together. At the very least, they should put the English songs on iTunes this summer. In my opinion, they should just scrap promotion of "You and I." I watched the trailer a while ago, and I got embarrassed for them.

In all, they lasted longer than I thought they ever would. I first found them in 2002, and I thought they'd be over by 2004 at the latest. Instead, we got two more great projects ("Lyudi Invalidy" being the best) and lots of extras. Now, it's time to wait and see what Lena has planned for us. :yes

That....sucks. :(

I wish them both the best though.

Here's to hoping I like their solo careers.
