I agree with you since I find it ridiculous that some others randomly sell million or close to million and ayu doesn't but one of the main reasons is that she had no radio/ear mainstream friendly song. Now she has Days and hopefully it will help but it's just one song and an album won't suceed just because of 1-2 radio/ear friendy songs and her inside promotion (not billboards or outside stuff) wasn't too much good for the singles.
Other artists, at least the females that sold million this year or the last had much more radio/ear friendly songs, catchy, poppy, a lot of ballads and had greater startegies.
ayu can't sell million just with 1 ballad and 1 summer song in an album since the rockish songs are unfortunately not that mainstream and not radio/ear friendly, not as half as all of the ballads, cute, or catchy pop songs that the others do.
If ayu would fill her albums with cute songs, catchy pop and like 5 ballads and at least 3-4 of the songs were very mainstream and their singles would succeed I gurantee you she would sell million easily.
Since she loves doing rock and that's what suits her best and she doesn't want to fill an album with money/sales grabbing stuff then it will be hard for her.
People in japan doesn't buy music for creativity, quality music and such, they buy music because they relate to lyrics of catchy pop/cute songs or "beautiful" ballad songs it's not nearly easy with rock typed songs, even if ayu's are high quality and are really good.
Another reason (specifically for A COMPLETE) is that avex pretty much killed its chance to be a million seller with last year's A BEST 2. Overall and what they earned from all of those stuff is a huge huge huge profit. A BEST 2 were avex's best profitting project of last year and they posted in one of their pdfs of last year.
If it wouldn't be released I gurantee you AC could be the 2nd or 3rd at least best selling album of this year since A BEST was in 2001 and now it's 2008 so a lot more people would get it but most wanted to stay with A BEST 2 as it seems and a lot of others purchased AC and it also brought a huge profit to avex.

On other note as the Oricon year of 2008 ended, A COMPLETE ~ALL SINGLES~ is #8 yearly!!! ^_^

Unfortunately, if Ayu releases stuff that Japan loves, and thus would create good sales and chart positions in Japan, the international fans would hate her... (see how cute/pop songs like HONEY, glitter, MY ALL etc are totally labeled as 'bad', 'boring', 'repeated', 'unoriginal' and all that?)

I wouldn't want to see Ayu losing her cool style of making rock songs and experimental songs, but of course, her cute pop songs and ballads are still my favorites... I think it's more of striking a balance. She can go either way and garner fans from both spectrum, but the best would to have albums that contain both of such songs? I'm not too sure though... sometimes it's difficult to predict such things.

P.S: Yay #8! I think I said before that 8 is a lucky number. Hahaha.

Yeah maybe it's just a bad time for solo females right now. A few years back, it was Misia then Namie then Ayumi/Hikaru then Ai then Kumi. It's the boys' turn lol. Hopefully it's a repeating cycle.

No, it has nothing to do with the CD case, it's an extra bag they give away when you buy the album, I think it's made of some kind of plastic or something similar, and it has a zipper similar to those ziploc bags

Not just that but releasing 4 versions of a single. I can't name many other artists who release 4 of anything. I've seen 4-5 but very rarely...and that was an album I'm sure only the most hardcore of fans would buy.

Well even so having 800+k of Hardcore fans is great (tough I doubt those were all really HC fans as her albums sales would prolly be better than). And many artists release multiple versions of their singles~

Visual kei band release 3 version of singles almost every time. Give it time, I'm sure when Ai's 10th anniversary rolls around she'll do 4 versions and Koda Kumi probably will do the same.

It's nice to see she's managing to stay afloat, and a nice little bump in sales.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I understand fully that A COMPLETE is a omg-compilation-all singles collection album, compared to a single... but still...

Days/GREEN is after all, a FRESH single, but the sales it's reflecting is not so good... but A COMPLETE has been out for about 3 months and I don't feel disappointed with its current sales...

How should we say this... I was really happy with the first day sales of the single, but after it just fell, WAY too low... it's now 1k+, but it's #1? Then what about the other singles in the chart? They must have sold even lesser than Days/GREEN's sale for today... which is still not good!

But of course if Oricon were to factor in legal digital downloads, then we could have gotten a much different story...

^ My intention was never to compare the sales of Days/GREEN and A COMPLETE. Obviously I've not been living under a rock so I DO know that albums sell much higher than singles. What I was talking about was the "impact" of the sales of Days/GREEN and A COMPLETE. Take a look at what riozz just posted for today's sales; and then look at Days/GREEN.

I know Days/GREEN is still #1 but come on, you don't feel that 1.4k+ for a #1 is pathetic? And I feel even so much more that Days/GREEN deserve much higher sales. Days/GREEN can be #1 weekly for its first week, and it could drop to other positions in the next week, but if it sold like more than that 1.4k, I would still be satisfied. I'm just upset about the sales of physical CDs, especially singles. If Days/GREEN could get #1 with 1.4k, then what about others, like Koda Kumi? On that same day, at #2, her sales index was 1.1k. What about #3, #4, #5, and so on?

mmm i don't understand the sales... I mean.. i only see that AC is going up and down... but the sales numbers?? where are they??
