humming is a oldie? it's not THAT old...it was on MY STORY album.....
anyways, of course the recorded versions are way better because they tinker around with her voice, but when you hear her sing, it's not tinkered, so it sounds a bit off. but i like it....

one performance i dun like was AT MY STORY's GAME. they tried to fix the acoustics so her voice sounds like in the original...but they messed up, and all you can really hear clearly is the choruses and the ending XP

I really like both but I really really like hearing her live.

mlkrepublic 24th April 2006 04:44 AM

i like her LIVE voice so much more as well. her recorded voice is usually edited too much. her "squeaky" sound becomes much squeakier after editing.

Kikaru 24th April 2006 04:52 AM

I like both. Some ones, pre-rainbow eras, have a higher pitch than currently, and it sounds different in live, because her voice changed. I really like the new Love~Destiny~ live and Duty from Countdown 2004-2005 Live more than the recorded version.

hallelujah_united 24th April 2006 08:10 AM

It's a mixed bag really. Some of her old songs have a different feel to them now when she performs them live, and sometimes the live versions do sound better than the recorded ones. Plus, the atmosphere of the live could also affect the way the songs sound. Like how I thought songs sounded better on AT 03-04 because it was so crazy.

But still, I'd give her TV performances a miss. They sound horrible at times to be honest...

Hearing Ayu sing live is so much more touching/emotional for me.

Beyond the Sea 24th April 2006 11:09 AM

I like concert songs live, like:

flower garden
unite!
audience

ImaSuguHoshii 28th April 2006 05:08 AM

Sometimes I like live, sometimes I like recorded.:D They're all good to me:yes

I think that the recorded ones have a power of their own and the live ones the same. Sometimes I feel for listening to ayu´s live voice so I would play some of her concerts. But when it´s for listening ayu 24/7 it would be her recorded ones cause they sound better when they´re mixed =)

immel 28th April 2006 10:34 AM

Live, definately. I got all her concert live DVDs ripped with lossless sound compression (flac). But I listen to the original versions more than the live versions, that will change.

AyUmIXx 28th April 2006 06:12 PM

of course, live sung...

Sometimes, I prefer recorded because after listening to the recorded ones and the remixes for so long...because they're edited, they sound a lot cleaner and she seems more likely to sing on tune when in the studio. Some of her performances are really bad because she's all off tune or she doesn't hit certain notes so then you're like X_x.

However, when she does sing on tune, perfect pitch etc for her live performances, there is nothing that can beat that.

And you never really know with her lives because you've also got to take into account of quality of sound. Like, when I see some of her performances on youtube, there were so, SO many performances that were completely off tune it made me sick...but then there are some performances that are really good, possibly due to quality. You can never really tell with live performances, until you actually go to one physically. Then you can judge for yourself. Regardless, she's still one of the best singers in the world (to me.)

Dark Eiri 9th May 2006 02:29 AM

Dearest, CAROLS and Moments are great performed live. Some are better on studio, like HEAVEN and INSPIRE.

PickleCookies 9th May 2006 07:07 AM

It depends. She can't do some songs live to save her life (Boys & Girls), but some songs that I can't stand recorded were amazing live (Dolls).

But here are the performances I like:

Concerts:
teddy bear (Countdown Live 2000-2001)
A Song for XX (Countdown Live 2000-2001)
Nearly all of Stadium Tour (especially medley)
Dearest (Arena Tour 2002)
Dolls (Limited TA Live Tour 2003)
Memorial Address (Arena Tour 2004)
ANGEL'S SONG (Arena 2004)
HAPPY ENDING (Arena 2005)
HONEY (Arena 2005)
poker face/Trust/Depend on You (A Museum)
theme of a-nation '03 (Countdown Live 2005-2006)

TV:
SEASONS (Hey!x3 10th Anniversary)
Dearest (PopJam Christmas Special)
Haru yo, koi

Wow... that's more than I thought.

I could probably upload videos/mp3s of these if anyone wants.

RoboNyanya 12th May 2006 10:15 PM

I honestly don't like her lives very much. She tends to do a beautiful job on AyuReady, but I don't know if that's because some weird editing is going on. I appreciate at least that she doesn't lip-synch...but she tries to cover up her inability to reach certain notes and pitches with flair, and sometimes...it's too obvious.

Of course there were some lives that were outstanding like 'Teddy Bear' at I have no idea...but most of them sound strained, or that she'd just be more comfortable in the studio. She can't sing PRIDE live to save her life; I'll say that much.

starr5245 13th May 2006 03:15 AM

Live sung songs will definitely have a poorer quality than recorded, because after recording, they will be fixed. And FYI: recorded songs can be recorded in parts and edited to fit in the best sung bits to make an excellent record, which can't be compared to the Live version when you only get one shot at singing.

Daking 13th May 2006 11:52 AM

Like most people here I like both. I listen to mostly recorded stuff because its what i'm used to. The live stuff is really good sometimes and sometimes not so much, for the most part i enjoy all the live performances. When a live song is done perfectly there is nothing better, because like opal tanya cho said live versions only get one shot.
