The reason Katy is able to pull off the 40-50s pin-up look is because her body type was more common around that time so the clothes fit her really well. Hopefully with Thinking of You being a single, people might take her more seriously than some attention grabber.

bondingo 27th December 2008 04:25 AM

I'm actually really happy to hear Thinking Of You is the next single. I heard it on the radio a few days ago and it's really grown on me since. The video was great and this one she actually can sing well live.

I think you're partly correct. Not all of us were blessed with an 18" waist, that's for sure, lol.

but now she is the best !

danielquasar 2nd January 2009 11:48 AM

I am very happy with the direction her career is going. I love the PV for Thinking of You. At first I didn't want it to be a single but now I love the song. Thanks to the awesome video. :)

Sorry to be a hater, but as this is an open forum I'll politely air my grievances about this musical industry boil. I can't take a woman seriously who runs around in rompers and uses offensive slang to make a hit.

Also, not even a giant pink cake wants her, as illustrated by her massive fail here:

Maybe if she was willing to have founded her 'career' based on an image that didn't result out of ludicrous pseudo bisexuality and omg I'm so edgy I wear underwear from the pin-up days with yellow pumps and tee hee I kiss girls but I come from a predominately Christian background and once sang Christian tunes ^_^ Will you like me yet? -- I'd think differently of her.

The first Thinking of You video was HORRIFYING.

I'm glad they made a second one >.>...

I hope Waking Up in Vegas is a single! :heart

InoriNoUta you're not a hater, you're just expressing your dislike in Katy Perry.
I don't think she's basing her career on psuedo bisexuality, "I Kissed A Girl" is about expermentation between two girls and "UR So Gay" isn't using the word 'gay' as in being homosexaul, just as it is being now uesd like 'that's gay' is saying 'that's stupid'.
I'm not attacking you or anything, just expressing what I think Katy's real intentions are.

And that's one of the reasons why I don't like her. Anybody who propagates the use of the phrase "that's gay" doesn't get any cool points in my book.

I wrote my own version of "I Kissed a Girl", but I can't post it here. *cough*

Melon Panda 4th January 2009 02:54 AM

Now that I think about it, I don't even know the lyrics of I Kissed A Girl beyond "I kissed a girl and I liked it". I just thought the song was catchy.

Well I don't even think Yum's description of her use of the word was even correct. In Ur So Gay she is saying that her boyfriend is so gay, as in homosexual, because he portrays all these gay stereotypes, yet isn't even gay himself. Despite being gay myself, I've never actually found it offensive because I found it humorous. I just think that people shouldn't take things like that so seriously. There are plenty of gay stereotypes that are widespread throughout the gay community and she uses those to her advantage in the song to pinpoint how her boyfriend does all these "gay" things but isn't even gay himself. I could see why someone would find it offensive but I just don't find myself bothered by it. Going into the whole stereotypes thing is always too controversial, at least for this board, so I don't want to touch the issue any further.

I Kissed a Girl, on the other hand, did sort of annoy me for a bit because of the lyrics. When she admitted that she never actually has kissed a girl in real life, it seems to discredit the lyrics of the song, but I grew to like the song and the lyrics. I can easily see why people would call Katy a poser for doing this and pretending to be that, but with the way the music industry is at the moment, it almost seems like you have to really go out there in order to get attention. Whether she's widely loved or not, her attention-seeking songs did get her plenty of fame.

Kaiouforever 7th January 2009 03:27 AM

I've seen singers sing about relationships they've never had, experiences they've never had, and no one really gives a **** but suddenly everyone is pissy that she isn't really going around kissing girls? o_O Come on.

Calico 7th January 2009 03:31 AM

Oh, not saying that I Kissed a Girl isn't crazy-catchy, and that's the only thing I liked about it. Overall she just isn't my style.

And being also gay myself, I can honestly say I just don't like her. Don't care if other people do because everyone has their own reasons, and I don't really want to get into that discussion either because I've seen it beat to death in the gay community as it is.

Kaiouforever 7th January 2009 03:33 AM

I don't really feel the song has anything to do with being gay, and I feel like you don't have to be gay/straight/female whatever to enjoy it. For me, it's a fun song that's about pushing limits, I don't take it that literally (obviously, since I'm a guy xD)

AyUta 7th May 2009 05:00 AM

Well the Waking up in Vegas MV is out :)
