There's a difference between plain trolling and giving an opinion, which is subjective obviously, or just being objective about the artist who is being discussed.

Like you, I listened to Rihanna when Pon de Replay came out (I still want those jeans) and thought she was the COOLEST new artist out, everytime I would see her vids (up to Umbrella) I would watch them everytime when MTV, BET, and VH1 played videos in the afternoons. But when she made the vid for Disturbia, the situation with CB, and her "I'm gonna be naked now because I'm badass" phase for the Rated R era took effect, she lost SO MANY BROWNIE POINTS with me...now I'm just like ehhhhh ummm I'll go listen to 2NE1 or Kuu-chan.
(But on the bright side, her fashion sense went waaaaayyy up until now *shudders at the blond trashy look*)

So about Diamonds.

I think it's a nice song and something different again.

I fear that Rihanna has just done too much that this "new" music is...disappointing.

We Found Love was different for Rihanna, and Calvin Harris did wonders with that song. Majestic and beautiful song. Diamond is just...there. I have no real reason to listen to it. It's not catchy and the beat isn't out of this world.

Either Rihanna is taking vocal classes or someone processed her vocals through an epic corrector.
The lyrics are obviously virulent and awful, but her vocal quality (save for a few cringe moments) is not bad.

Diamond is okay I guess. It could sound better if it was remixed to make the beat faster or something like that. IMO, it doesn't feel like a very strong song for a lead single.

Talk That Talk seems to be rather hated, which is sad. Personally I really love this album. To me every song on the record is really good. I always feel touched when I listen to Drunk On Love and We All Want Love. Amazing stuff. Cockiness and Birthday Cake are so much fun to listen and You Da One somehow makes me feel so happy. :D This album inspires me a lot with lyrics too and I always love artists who inspire me the most. ♥
