She did lower the key a little right?? The softer half was perfect!!!! The rock part was rather alright, kinda shouty

But omg that dress is OWNAGE!!!!!!!!!!!! Totally stunning and I love the styling of her hair :)

Feels so good to see Ayu performing again ^^

1 octave lower than the original version but it was a great performance.
Btw her dress was designed be the famous Japanese designer Maruyama Keita

HD is now available at jpopsuki.

Guess she cut the CDl last night to rest earlier because of her schedule today :)
She really looks so fab..love the feathers

THIS IS a MUST DOWNLOAD

@yagami, do u mean 1 semitone? 1 flat down?

roanmy 31st December 2011 11:11 AM

I prefer the first part, sounded good and calm. Second half was ok, but not as good by a long shot. =P

truehappiness 31st December 2011 11:12 AM

It's so flattering for her figure. AMAZING.

AyUmIXx 31st December 2011 11:13 AM

^ OMGGG thanksss
she look so STUNNING!!
love her gown!!
can't wait to watch the HQ version.

Mai82Go 31st December 2011 11:15 AM

One great performance. Well done Ayu. I love the dress effect and progress is the perfect song for it.

AyuGAME 31st December 2011 11:18 AM

yeah I thought she was a little off in the chorus .. Now rewatching it I guess it's out at the end .. Is ayu down with a flu or something?

ExodusUK 31st December 2011 11:31 AM

Wooowww great performance even though it sounded like she was struggling at the end.

stivenoto 31st December 2011 11:38 AM

wondering when we will get the percentage for each singers?

AyUmIXx 31st December 2011 11:39 AM

did she change some lyric into "nippon"?

truehappiness 31st December 2011 11:39 AM

Probably early in the morning.

Instead of 'the two of us believed in the same future' it was changed to "Japan believed in the same future" or something ike that.

stivenoto 31st December 2011 11:40 AM

yep...
I also heard that she said nippon

Thanks, wondering what is ayu's percentage

YUKARI 31st December 2011 11:40 AM

wooooooooooowwwwww this is great live!!! her best Kouhaku for sure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

btw she changed lyrics a bit. like "onaji mirai wo shinjiteru NIPPON" - NIPPON instead of FUTARI.

the performance's so strong! I'm amazed!

AyUmIXx 31st December 2011 11:43 AM

^ yea that's really cool!
progress is really a song that suitable for nippon!

setsuka 31st December 2011 11:43 AM

her nails and hair was so gorgeous, the first thing I noticed tbh

overall was amazing, I always love how long her lives are, some feel like 2 minutes or less

YUKARI 31st December 2011 11:45 AM

^yeah and I love how she screamed after that!!

her vocals are very strong. Jesus, I couldn't imagine progress will be so epic at stage!

I also think that this is her best kouhaku since moment and jewel...

maybe this is why she cut some songs from yesterday CDL...

YUKARI 31st December 2011 11:46 AM

God dammit, I feel like if she performed progress at MSSL, Best Artist and so it would be this epic too... Jesus, it's such a big miss!!!

Mai82Go 31st December 2011 11:47 AM

I loved Rule at Kouhaku. Fierce and sexy.

stepYOU1234 31st December 2011 11:48 AM

Best dress change ever! Didn't expect the dancers to come out like that :D And good vocals and the beginning too ^o^

AyUmIXx 31st December 2011 11:49 AM

^ me too!
i didn't expect that those are dancers!
COOL idea!
love her hairstyle as well.

stivenoto 31st December 2011 11:49 AM

Hope 2012 Ayu will do more Tv performance than 2011....

They're so many good songs that she can perform on TV.....

TeamAyu2004 31st December 2011 12:00 PM

I liked the performance, but something did sound a little off during the second part of the second.
Also, the dancers coming from the dress... lol, so predicable.
But I thought she said she wouldn't preform Progress because she didn't want to cut the song... did that change somewhere???

truehappiness 31st December 2011 12:02 PM

That was on TV aka MUSIC STATION and such. She had the full intro at Kouhaku.

Andrenekoi 31st December 2011 12:09 PM

She didn't want to cut lyrics. She had no problem to throw off the guitar bridge.

Chibi-Chan 31st December 2011 12:12 PM

I'm downloading it at jpsuki right now, only 5 minutes left!!!

I dun think JEWEL was that good... I rather think it was one of her more subtle kouhaku performances.

Anywayz, watched the HD, i didn't expect the dancers would come out from her "dress". Although the key was lower, I think the performance is great :D.

kiseki89 31st December 2011 02:43 PM

Finally red won!

bluegie 31st December 2011 02:45 PM

did they?!?!
omg i'm so freakin' happy!!!! RED TEAM go!!!

ExodusUK 31st December 2011 02:47 PM

Did anyone see Ayu had four backing singers at Kouhaku? Princess, Timmy and two other girls I think?

bluegie 31st December 2011 02:47 PM

oh gonna check again :P

maikaru 31st December 2011 02:48 PM

I think she is sick because her complexion isn't really good... she looks pink at the end!
And she has gained weight~ it's good.

I think we are hearing two different performances, because I don't think it was that good.
They just put the volume up on her vocals so we can hear them clearly.
She is still horribly offkey... :(

It sounds like she has no energy... she has to sleep!
That's part of the reason she can't give the best performances.
She never sleeps! D:

bluegie 31st December 2011 02:53 PM

... is it that bad?? I can hear some offkeys but it's not that bad.. but oh well I dunno Japanese so maybe you can hear more than I do, since you are Japanese :). And yeah I saw her face quite pink during the second half. Overall I still think it's a really good performance :).

@ExodusUK: where is peco then? I'm sure the lady beside princess wasn't peco at all..

Mirrorcle Monster 31st December 2011 02:55 PM

It was really epic and touching, forever the queen of jpop

ExodusUK 31st December 2011 02:56 PM

Actually I think it might be a man, so two male and two female backing vocalists lol
http://i.imgur.com/2rrJP.png

No excuse for thin and flat vocals now :p

~angel*ayumi~ 31st December 2011 03:08 PM

Yay, finally the Red Team won again^^
Can´t wait to watch the full show^^ Will wait for a avi file on jpopsuki, don´t wanna download 30GB ts XD

bluegie 31st December 2011 03:09 PM

^^oh yeah the person stood beside Timmy should be a guy. When I watched it I thought it was a guy but I focused more on princess's side :P. I read your post and saw "two other girls", but my mind interpreted as "one girl" somehow lol.

Red team should win IMO. AKB48 is super popular, and they included KARA and SNSD this year. This would drag more votes on red team hehe. And don't forget another epic opening this year from our majesty :D.

I'm so glad... hopefully they will win again next year as well ;).

Her opening is really epic this year! i have no complaint for it!

ayumisrael 31st December 2011 03:51 PM

Yeah her performance was really good!!!

I wondered if staying on singing low is something ayu started doing lately or it was just here?

love in music 31st December 2011 05:14 PM

ayu sounded better in the progress intro live than in the actual song! I'm really happy with this performance! i lol'd at the dancers popping out of her dress. amazing. i just don't like how every year at kouhaku her mic is turned up too loud for the music. it really annoys me.. just not so much this time since her voice was really good :P

I feel like the only one that expected great vocals haha Progress is perfect for her voice and the studio version was recorded BEFORE her new vocal lessons :) A pity she didn't perform it in CDL.

stivenoto 31st December 2011 05:38 PM

Yeahh red team won this time..
The power of girl groups.

My friend also said this is the best opening...
She really know how to open the show...

Cant wait to see the percentage,...
Coz, i think tales of xillia fans will try to catch up Ayu's performance

AyuGAME 31st December 2011 06:34 PM

wow!!! red team won? it's about time...

AyumiAi 31st December 2011 09:11 PM

Her performance was so EPIC!!! :) I wonder if the ratings for the opening were a bit higher than normal since AKB48 was at the start so AKB48 fans probably tuned in from the very beginning

*hearT_Place* 31st December 2011 09:24 PM

I loved her Kouhaku performance. I thought it was sweet how she changed the lyrics at the beginning to "onaji mirai shinjiteru nippon"

progress at Kouhaku was great!
Clear vocals and Ayu looked good! :heart
Was able to overlook her standard overuse of dancers here. :laugh

TITANIC 1st January 2012 10:33 PM

performance was great but it would be better without the dancer. the choreography doesn't suit the song at all

By region, Kouhaku had the highest ratings in Niigata (44.2% and 48.9%) and Fukushima (45.7% and 47.5%)."

The opening performance always has either the lowest rating or one of the lowest because it's so early and most people tune in later. However Ayumi's opening ratings are some of the best Kouhaku had.

as is this LOL? said; it has nothing to do with the quality of the performance. It's common that the lowest ratings are during the beginning of the show.

Well, it's normal because Ayu was the first performer. In Kouhaku's history, the first singer usually recieved the lowest rating. And the same thing happens with the first day of the contest.
At least red team won (because of those Korean girls really):lech

AyumiAi 2nd January 2012 04:02 PM

AyUmIXx 3rd January 2012 11:15 AM

I'm pretty sure it was b/c of AKB48 and KARA and Shoujo Jidai not Lady Gaga

Plus ayaka :love
Lady gaga has nothing to do with Red Team. She was catagorized in Special Appearance.

Nothing is wrong with it. Change the encoding of your Internet browser to Japanese (Shift_JIS).

Gaga performed (on a pre-recorded video, I know) Yoü and I and Born This Way.
