Why? Too much pressure. Also people tend to put too much stock into the rankings and it's like, if it's good and you like it, then who cares right? I mean, if it's bad and she doesn't make money than that's bad yes, but as someone said she's got tour receipts a plenty so nothing to be worried about.

But I'm sure I speak for a lot of people when I say this

Andrenekoi 23rd April 2012 08:59 PM

^Even if it does, it won't be for much... I believe both albums will end selling +- around the same...

Chibi-Chan 24th April 2012 12:59 AM

How much did JAPONESQUE sell till now?

TeamAyu2004 24th April 2012 02:40 AM

Well, so far
JAPONESQUE - 148,187
Party Queen - 124,305

All in all, I think Party Queen did better than JAPONESQUE given everything surrounding the two. JAPONESQUE had singles, party queen didn't.
tie ins and what not, plus I think in the long run, party queen will out sell JAPONESQUE.

adantatu2 24th April 2012 03:09 AM

Both albums are amazing, but both have poor promotion.
Koda didn't promote the album for her pregnancy and ayu only promote the album in local shows and some magazines.
To be honest, i think ayu will sell less than Kuu this time ToT

Even without the singles, I think PQ sold more over a shorter period of time?

Like Japonesque sales dipped to the lowest plateau before ayu's did. PQ sold more per day/week before plateauing out to normal.

or so it seemed...

Well comparing their chart run

W1 97,691 93,835
W2 18,101 24,813

It's very hard to say but Ayu has her arena tour to promote the album so who knows.

TeamAyu2004 24th April 2012 03:35 AM

^^ i think the first two weeks of JAPONESQUE were better, but after that I think Party Queen is doing better... or it seems... I mean its only been out for what, five weeks now and it has almost caught up to Koda's album, which was out 3 months before Party Queen...
so in the long run I think it will out sell, yes.

Well thats pretty normal since most sales come from the first few weeks. It'll be close. We'll have to wait and see.

Andrenekoi 24th April 2012 03:43 AM

By her 5th week, Koda had sold 135k... So, she still did better than Ayu...

TeamAyu2004 24th April 2012 04:33 AM

I woould tend to think that Ayumi has done better firgureing in the lack of promotion and no singles.
Plus in the long run I think ayumi has better staying power than koda kumi.

pretty different from the western artists, the tours in japan barely rise albums sales, so i doubt the arena tour will rise PQ sales...

Arena tours don't really promote the album as the majority of people who attend the tours have either bought it, downloaded it or had never intended to purchase it.

I think that FIVE pretty much displayed what Ayu can do with a solid tie-in and if PQ had better promo I'm sure it would've outsold JAPONESQUE so far even when you consider all the things that album had, but as Emiko said, sales are sales, and Ku is leading the way atm, though I am hoping that'll change not that it matters much.

truehappiness 24th April 2012 07:51 AM

They have special promotions for people who buy the album though, so they are trying to sell copies at the tour stops.

brener 24th April 2012 08:15 AM

^

does oricon count that sales?

Andrenekoi 24th April 2012 08:38 AM

^Only 1/3....

But Ayu/Avex gets the money anyway :P

truehappiness 24th April 2012 08:45 AM

Basically, if they sell 100 copies, only about 30 of them count towards Oricon.

There's a maximum of 1000 copies, I think.

So if we were to assume they sold out all copies on every tour stop it would help boost up the album by 8,400. Not huge I guess but it is something.

Amuro_Ray 24th April 2012 02:21 PM

Sales is still lower than koda 5th week

brener 24th April 2012 06:22 PM

thanks! thats great! =D still far from 150k tho... dont rly think its possible

Andrenekoi 24th April 2012 06:36 PM

^It's not like the album is going to stop charting tomorrow, u know? Japonesque only got close to 150k after 3 months... (and it is still charting, isn't it?)

Twinkle ! 24th April 2012 08:55 PM

^ Well JAPONESQUE is selling less than 1k now per week and the total so far about 148k
Which i guess it will stop at 155k maximum

if ayu keeps selling less than kuu every week , i guess she may or she may not reach 150k , Keep in mind the JAPONESQUE ahead with 6k

Party queen is 17k away , and by this week she'll start selling 2k and less by time , But I'm still hoping the she could do it

I'm afraid because once Party Queen reaches 140k she'll be selling 1k and less

so let's just hope for Party queen to reach 150k :D

Kouyou 24th April 2012 09:13 PM

I don't really care if JAPONESQUE sells better than Party Queen or vice-versa, because neither of them are selling incredibly well. It will be really close either way. I love both albums so I don't feel that sales totals say anything about the quality of the albums.

TeamAyu2004 25th April 2012 01:53 AM

I think the first week and last week were better for Party Queen compared to Kuu... only time will tell of course.

AyuBlackwind 25th April 2012 07:28 AM

sheesh

Stay optimistic, I guess.

1st week she had an extra day - but still, Ayu usually has higher first week sales. Other than that, they've been pretty much the same the past few weeks so I'm sure she can still manage 150k area in the long run. JAPONESQUE is in its 13th week and just crossed 149k.

If anyone wants to compare:

JAPONESQUE | Party Queen

1st week = 93,835 | 97,691
2nd week = 24,813 | 18,101
3rd week = 11,158 | 8,513
4th week = 5,521 | 5,618
5th week = 3,648 | 3,352
6th week = 2,554 | ?

Both albums have dropped a lot faster every week than previous releases.. but I guess that's to be expected. I just hope for longevity for both

Andrenekoi 25th April 2012 07:38 PM

Well... she probably lost some Oricon numbers because of all that events... To sit near to Ayu on those events u needed to buy a copy :P

brener 25th April 2012 11:16 PM

hopin she'll get back into top 30 tmw..

TeamAyu2004 26th April 2012 04:20 AM

Based on the data differences of sales from what Avex reports and what the Oricon reports, is it possible that Party Queen has already well passed the 150,000 mark along with Kuu's albums?

Why is there such a difference between what the Oricon says and Avex and why does it affect the RIAJ certifications?

Why shouldn't it count towards the total? I don't understand the numbers.

Kuu is signed to an Avex Records Group label so her sales would be higher as well than what Oricon reports. I'm pretty sure those Avex numbers are shipments. A record label often reports a shipped figure to the media and say thats how much its sold.

Andrenekoi 29th April 2012 09:34 AM

Why is there such a difference between what the Oricon says and Avex and why does it affect the RIAJ certifications?

Why shouldn't it count towards the total? I don't understand the numbers.

Avex counts the copies they sell to the stores.
RIAJ certificates how much copies were sold to stores.
Oricon counts the number of copies people bought on those stores.

Avex will always have larger numbers than Oricon unless the album is totally sold out and no more copies are made.

So, if there were produced 150,000 copies, and the public buy 90,000 of those, Avex will anounce it sold 100,000, while Oricon will count 90,000 and RIAJ will certificate gold (100,000 - 250,000) copies, as more than 100k copies were shipped, but less than enough to certificate it platinum (250k).

But Oricon can't count 100% of copies sold to the public, as they can't keep track on every small store that sells albums in Japan, and they only count 1/3 of total sales from events and concerts, as there's no way of making sure the label is lying about sales (Oricon is just a magazine, it's not like they have power to force any label to tell them the right numbers and check it on the label's stock).

So, considering concert and event sales, as events were a big part of promotion on this era, I wouldn't be surprised if Ayu actual weekly sales are higher than Koda's, considering the gap between their sales are minimal... But we will never know it for sure, so, I don't think anybody should really worry about it... In the end of the day, more important than having big Oricon numbers, is the money the album sales make... So, even if a worst "official" position, only Avex knows how well the albums are doing^^

AyuBlackwind 29th April 2012 06:44 PM
