She show emotions in her PVs? :laugh
I kid, I kid :P

But at least she looks gorgeous while dancing her butt off/walking/sitting/standing :yes

There've been better namie PVs...
Damage isn't the best song namie's recorded.
But not the worst.

Dream 6th December 2012 04:49 AM

Why you all bashing Damage? It's a good song and the PV is amazing.

Are you kidding? Can't eat etc is AWESOME! It is one of the best songs to karaoke. Everybody always gets into it cause it's so awesome even if they don't know who she is. Her worst song is Namie's style. the end. Wassup oh my homegirl wassup i talk to you later omg trauma

If you list out all her PVs from STYLE to Uncontrolled, how many PVs are actually better than or equal to Damage's?

Imo there are only FAST CAR, make it happen, In The Spotlight and YEAH OH PV, the rest are just the same in an enjoyable standard.
Plus, I have never become her fan because of her dancing, it's her "not cute at all, not high at all" voice & her deep tone that made me her fan back then in 2003 with songs like Put' Em Up/So Crazy.

And It's strange that a lot of people like Can't Sleep. That song has zero energy imo. It sounds too generic, "easy" and "lazy" :P

Damage (song + pv) is just awesome !!

P/s: "Namie's Style" is so funky and unique!! :o

Let me agree with this post right now!! :D, I to You crap, and let's not forget that sad Instrumental track from Concentration 20(HATE IT!) Not to mention some of those sad *** interludes from Sweet 19 Blues can we see "fillers" other than that Namie is perfectly flawless, I feel like maybe if Damage were a little more different lyrically and vocally it might be a "hit" but it's not. Nonetheless I love the arrangement and that's enough for me other than the fact that it's Namie's track :D really can't wait to see what her next single will bring, she will always be my #1 artist whether she does good or bad, her career & life are so inspiring!

ayu_ready? 6th December 2012 10:53 AM

WORLD MUSIC AWARDS news:

Namie has 2 nominees (WORLD'S BEST FEMALE ARTIST and WORLD'S BEST VIDEO
with In The Spotlight) ^^

Minttulatte 6th December 2012 01:31 PM

World's Best Female Artist? Is that the same category as Ayu's? I can't get on the site at all (it's giving me a "database connection error" every time). I hope Namie wins. It was awesome to see Namie on Finnish TV in 2010 and I'd like to see that happen again♥

True to a point (I think In the spotlight is a terrible PV) however, atleast the dance routine matches the song or amplifies it. It absolutely didn't in this case which makes it bad because even if you personally don't care for her dancing, generally other than dancing, posing and frowning, there is nothing else going on in her videos.
Her best PVs imo are What a feeling, Cant eat, Naked, Hide and Seek, Wild and Fast Car. I do have a special place in my heart for So crazy/put em up but in a so bad its good sort of way

I love her 90s vocals so much. This song sounds good too♥ I wonder what music program that performance is from and when it aired because I just made a mp3 rip of the video. It was so catchy I couldn't resist. :D

This performance was at the end of 1996 on "THE!Yoru mo hippare," (http://everything2.com/title/hippare), a show that guests performed other artists's HITs on music chart.

I also rip this video and convert it to mp3, the song is just awesome.

Yes, she has many, many performances from that show. It showcased her vocals really well. She out sang a lot of the original artists imo.

UHPlus 13th December 2012 01:58 AM

Actually I was expecting a more flashier and bigger stage design. Since it's in the dome, she should give it all and go crazy with the presentation...

SunshineSlayer 13th December 2012 02:08 AM

Namie has never done elaborate sets though. Even her first dome tour was super simple. I kind of like it that way - the focus is always just on her.

I kinda like the tour wardrobe. Its not amazing like Best Fiction or Past<Future, but has more variety than Live Style 2011.

The setlist is so-so. I like that it has a lot of oldies and most of Uncontrolled, but more songs from her mid-era would have been nice. Wheres ALARM?!

That was fun to watch! Makes me wanna listen to some of her older albums.
Also showed how little she has grown as a performer over 20 years though :/

Rocky Raven 13th December 2012 04:30 PM

^ That's the reason she has stayed in everyone's heart for 20 years, Namie is just one, nothing need to be changed. =]

isthisLOL? 13th December 2012 04:33 PM

But she's such a mediocre performer. Like...she has her good days(and a couple performances I really like), but she just doesn't seem to STAY on that level.
I wasn't talking about her performance style changing, I was talking about her low stage presence.

Rocky Raven 13th December 2012 05:00 PM

^ I'm glad that there're still alot of ppl out there enjoying the way she has been performing live for the last 20 years, no drama, just down to earth and be herself.
The truth is I dun listen to Namie's CD much but watching her DVD instead.

isthisLOL? 13th December 2012 05:05 PM

You're still missing my point it seems(or you've simply accepted that she won't improve?), but whatever.

koumori 13th December 2012 05:15 PM

Or maybe some people just have a different opinion. ;) She might be a boring performer or have low stage presence to some, but for many of her fans it's what they love about her.

isthisLOL? 13th December 2012 05:18 PM

I guess it's a style.
Let's call it emotionless impersonal stick-puppet.

Rocky Raven 13th December 2012 05:39 PM

^ I wonder how many LIVEs of Namie u've actually watched to the full show and called her emotionless?

If everyone thought like u, Namie would have been disappeared in shame.

Bad Wolf 13th December 2012 06:19 PM

I don't think there's anything impersonal about how Namie puts on a show. She's obviously engaged with the act of performing, and just because she doesn't talk to the crowd doesn't mean she doesn't care. DIR EN GREY's overseas performances NEVER have any MCs. You're lucky to get Kyo to say the city's name at the end of the show, and basically the only time they'll interact with us are at the very end with wordless gestures -- waves, raised fists, nods, bows, etc. For them it's all about connecting through the songs. I imagine for Namie it's the same thing. And it's effective, clearly, since she's such a popular live act.

If we're talking about growing and evolving as a performer, I guess I'd have to agree that yeah, not much is different at all. I don't see this as a bad thing with her, though. We get enough personality and sweetness from Kuu lol. Let Namie be the mobile, voiced work of art prancing around for our amusement lol. I like that mystique about her.

Delicious n Bold 13th December 2012 06:24 PM

I like namie for her music
Well, maybe her composers more, but more of name's ability to sing songs.
The first half of past < future just slays me every time. First timer is just eargasm.

isthisLOL? 13th December 2012 06:43 PM

I've watched all of Namie's tours since 2003(?) completely and parts of her concerts before that. And me calling her emotionless and impersonal has nothing to do with not having MCs, I don't even like MCs, I'd gladly do without ANY talking in concerts since it usually just distracts from the music.

Rocky Raven 13th December 2012 06:44 PM

This was filmed on March 29, 1999 – Hey! Hey! Hey! Music Awards III, just 12 days after her mother was brutally murdered by her brother-in-law.

Can't u believe it, how could she still "smile" to ppl around like that? Surely it hurted her deepest from the inside.

Talking about her as a live performer, i would give her my all respect.

isthisLOL? 13th December 2012 06:47 PM

That's called "acting" and has little to do with performing. But I do respect her for being able to do that - I know I wouldn't be able to.

I still think she's one of the most mediocre performers in the business and has close to no stage presence. Like Lady Gaga or Christina Aguilera.

♥ you! 13th December 2012 08:11 PM

Namie's lives are ok to me. Compared to her peers I think she ranks quite high, I think Kumi and Miliyah put on better shows than her. Namie is miles ahead of Ayu though (would be a different story in 2006)

inthezone 13th December 2012 09:22 PM

She's a good performer imo, she's a great dancer and decent enough singer.

lol okay now i know you're trolling because while i'm not in any way, shape or form a huge lady gaga fan, to say she has no stage presence and is a bad performer is just absolutely silly.

mizuki-7 13th December 2012 09:46 PM

All these things are a matter of taste IMO If one is fan of Namie He will say that she is a better performer same with every other artists ...

Namie is a dance performer unlike Ayu who is a theatral performer ! If you ask me I enjoy much more Ayu in Live than namie ! Not because she show more emotions but because all the thing is more enjoyable ! It's not just dance dance and dance ... she tell a story all things take sens !

Even if I like more songs of Namie I I prefer the lives of Kumi !

harufi 13th December 2012 10:30 PM

Got to agree with some people on here, I find Namie quite emotion-less and boring to watch on her concerts. She a good singer and a brilliant dancer, but I just can't keep paying attention when she keeps the same blank face throughout.
I know that some fans like her that and find her mysterious, but its not for me ^^

pommy48 13th December 2012 10:39 PM

I feel like Ayu and Namie are opposite extremes. My mom tells me she gets annoyed with how theatrical/dramatic/emotional Ayu is on stage (and she quite loves Namie's confident and focused demeanor)

They're just different kinds of performer. Ayu's concerts are more like a show where you get overwhelmed by everything going on, but for Namie's concerts, you focus on her and her dancing.

mizuki-7 13th December 2012 11:08 PM

^

I totally agree with you ^^

JackieRos 13th December 2012 11:58 PM

She's my favorite performer, every time I watch her lives I feel like dancing with her.
I love it when she gets short of breath and then she gets back up, because you know she's doing her best.
And when she smiles in her concerts, she makes me melt.

I have no complains at all.

UHPlus 14th December 2012 01:16 AM

Just like some people like to watch movies that makes them cry and emotionally connected. While some loves watching action films or movies with fight choreography.

Not Fade Away 14th December 2012 02:25 AM

lol I just love how when someone criticizes something Namie does, all of these posters that never post in her thread suddenly come out of the woodwork to voice their opinions.

Anyway, I personally love Namie as a live performer much for the same reasons that JackieRos does.

I don't think it's that Namie is emotionless, I just think (and KNOW) that she is extremely shy, so for her to get up and perform 25-30 songs a night is huge for her.

She wants to connect with her fans and show them a good time which is why she goes out and does all these crazy-lengthed-tours but I feel that she just doesn't want to over-expose herself on the stage and is shy and reserved in that way. Which is just fine for me.

I love that she still sings live in every performance and rarely bothers to edit the strain in her voice out in DVDs of her lives.

Which is why I'll be purchasing the 20th anniversary DVD when it comes out.

I don't find her mysterious or anything tbh, i just find that women who stay cool and calm are more attractive.
She clearly has different personality comparing to Ayu or Kuu, who are both Extraverts. For that reason her concert mode is also in a very different way.

I have the same point of view of pommy48's mom. I quite don't like the theatrical/dramatic/emotional Ayu on stage, because they are all coming from the "acting" section. While I love Namie because she has a solid color.

relmy 14th December 2012 03:55 AM

I really like Namie's reserved performing style, it works for her music. Then when you get those moments of genuine emotion, they're extra powerful because you know she's really feeling it.

I just respect her for still being able to do what she does after all the **** that happened to her. The fact that she clawed her way back to the top shows she does care. That's no easy feat.

While Ayu and Kuu are like your two girlfriends who you gossip with, Namie's like... your cool big sister or something haha

Namie Defence Force! :strike

Personally, I love her performance style and feel it works well with her songs. Sure, she might not cause much of an "impact" on the stage in terms of presence, but I feel her shy-but-determined persona is really represented through her concerts, and therefore I'm happy that it seems like she's just being herself :)

As much as I love Ayu's concerts, I would still choose Namie's concerts because she doesn't need all those dramatic crap to make up a great performance. It's just Namie dancing on stage and that's enough for me. My favorite live performer is Kuu though for many different reasons, but Namie is #2.

And speaking of lives, I completely forgot to watch Live Style 2011 in September! D: I need to fix this horrible mistake when I get rid of Gaga (and she has stage presence btw) madness that struck me last week. XD

Which is why I'll be purchasing the 20th anniversary DVD when it comes out.

okay the fact that she IS that shy makes a world of a difference. i mean holy crap, most shy musicians (or musicians with the sort of reserved, isolated personalities that shyness can create) don't even freakin' tour either at all or all that often. for namie to get out there and do the tours she does, for as long as she does, and to rely on nothing but her ability to perform is pretty bold. some people might think they'd have to compensate by chatting or amping the crowd up, but either namie trusts in her abilities or she trusts he fans to enjoy what she feels comfortable giving them.

... SO MANY NAMIE FEELS :cry

Quick question: does anybody know what channel will be airing of her 20th anniversary special (http://www.wowow.co.jp/music/amuro/) this Sunday. I just moved to Japan (I live in the Kansai area), and haven't figured out which channel is WOWOW yet. I really want to watch it!

I just respect her for still being able to do what she does after all the **** that happened to her. The fact that she clawed her way back to the top shows she does care. That's no easy feat.

While Ayu and Kuu are like your two girlfriends who you gossip with, Namie's like... your cool big sister or something haha

This. All of it.

What I love especially is that even when her popularity was being overshadowed by Ayu and Hikki, she was still coming out with quality music, whereas many other artists would lose quality along with their popularity.

WOWOW is a premium channel (like HBO in the US) so you'll probably have to pay to see it.

thiiiiiis this this
so much this

Namie never seemed too concerned about much else but making music she liked and continuing with that approach regardless of popularity, sales, etc. I'm really glad it's payed off after all these years because I can't think of a more deserving woman -- in the JPop market, anyway lol. I supposed I should be just as grateful to her staff and her composers for providing her with such quality stuff DESPITE the competition in those days.

(how fitting that this should make me an independent Initiate :laugh)

Yeah, as mentioned, WOWOW is a pay channel. You would have to sign up for it through your cable company.

Bummer. Oh well.

Anyways, I really like Amuro Namie's reserved singing style as well. I also like how she seemed to continue to be herself even when her popularity was waning. It never looked to me like she was trying too hard to be liked, while still coming out with GREAT music.

Since this thread is almos dead:
My friend and i were walking in a mall and we saw h&m ads
We agreed that half of them looked dead and half looked amazing

Then I said if you wanted someone who looks dead AND sexy, they should have used namie slaymuro in the ads XD

Minttulatte 19th December 2012 05:27 PM

^Except that Namie doesn't look dead at all. :D

Delicious n Bold 19th December 2012 07:09 PM

As a blogger once said: being happy don't pay dem bills.
Namie looks miserable on most of her CDs and they sell like hotcakes.
Just look at best fiction: she looks like she got struck with necrosis, and the album became a million seller.

if there's one thing i'll never doubt, its the power of this woman.

She looks as dead as any other Japanese singer on her CD covers, imo. They photoshop everyone to death.

I know Best Fiction was meant to be over-photoshopped btw, I meant in general.
