I don't think its fair to blame Timmy...didn't even tweet something like "Nothing to do with me, I just do whatever the boss tells me" in response to someone bashing his nappy at A-nation a few years back.
The guy deserves props for giving Ayu one of her best and most unique songs in "BRILLANTE". |
As far as his wardrobe goes, that is 100% Ayu. But I think in a way Ayu thinks that's what he wants to wear? He was fine in POWER of MUSIC but every appearance since then has been the pink wackiness.
|
I don't think even Ayu wants to wear some of the stuff she does, but she does seen to put the overall effect of the performance above the confort.

I get that he is replacing PECO basically but Micci, Yumi, or Young Ae (?) were nowhere near as flashy as far as their costumes before we ended up with Timmy as the main side vocal. |
Miccie has slowly been increasing his presence. Not to my liking but whatever I've learned how to tone them out.
I used to like Peco but not really enjoying the chorus since she left. |
PECO and Princess are my OTP for Ayu's back up. They just work! Though I wonder why Ayu's studio backup vocalist never did live vocals.
|
I never cared for Peco (nor did most people when she came on the scene). I actually liked Ayu's original back-up singers when she started using them prominently. In her earlier works she always just had her backing track playing, but around the single promo for & and Ourselves performances, she introduced them as part of her entourage -- they didn't last too long before being replaced with Peco and Princess. Peco's voice never really suited Ayu's (until later years when Ayu's own voice got much lower), and she was always too showy on stage.
These days I really like Princess being featured so much, and I think she really has some beautiful operatic vocals that were never showcased earlier (I used to think her voice was quite weak). |
AT03-04 (and AYUREADY?) was definitely the beginning of what we know now for lives at least.

I thought the music at least was typical Ayu from Party Queen (at least the perspective it had and "concept" from beginning to end) but the videos and covers/booklet were a little un-Ayulike. I would have preferred the safer "queen" shoot.

The world is spinning round and round, who are you again? I don’t even know who I am anymore *** The world is sparkling with light, let only convenient things And fun things come into my sight The world is spinning round and round, and we keep on repeating No matter how many painful experiences come, we will never be defeated, right? Further puncatured with the live performance with the I AM A LONEELLLYYY QUEEN moment of realisation and awareness. And her tweets at the time explain it further Kll_: This lonely queen, playing hard at parties and getting so drunk she doesn’t remember who she is anymore. Should she reset her feelings? ayu_19980408: She is so busy with everything that it’s all a mess, but she’s really trying to hide her wounds. That is what I see. Spoiler:
|
@ExodusUK : Wow, never saw those tweets! Thanks!
"MADMishi_Ghost: Aw yes she does look lonely.. ayu_19980408: ‘Freedom’ thats what she most wanted 2 but its never gonna happen I THINK" wow, that's kinda sad. |
I wonder if she'd ever do that sort of thing on Twitter again... but the changes to it since then say otherwise.
|
Love the reference to the Duty shoot - cage and leopard prints alike.
|
ayu_19980408: I do, secretly. I mean seriously.
??????? Anyways very interesting I haven't seen these tweets before. I never looked at all the lyrics of the party queen album but I guess I'll go back and do that today. |
it seems she was so lost that time, but thanks god she seems to be a lot better place now days :yes
|
That made me remember those days when Party queen was released. I thought that Party Queen was a terrible album, but listening to it again I can remember why I loved it back them. The production and mastering are great, you can tell it took time to produce it, not like Love again. Besides that, songs flow smoothly and the concept of that lonely queen passing from refusing and hiding her pain, to being sarcastic and openly wounded, is really touching.
I think that the main problem to empathize with that album is how you deal with the title, you expect a fun and danceable album, and at the end you get only 3 dance songs. Maybe if the album were named Lonely Queen or Party Queen?, people wouldn't be surprised by that party songs lack. |
She could explain PQ to me all day, unfortunately I don't like the songs. The lyrics can be as deep as the ocean but if I don't like it, I don't like it lol.
I don't like the music nor the visuals. But that doesn't mean I judge people who -do- like it. |
^I, personaly, don't think there's anything wrong with disliking a release... Ayu covered tons of genres and images over the years and it's natural nobody will like every little thing... But it does bother me when people mistake disliking something with it being objectively bad, or accusing her of not putting though on her work.
I really dislike MY STORY and Rock'n'Roll Circus for example, but I wouldn't call them lazy or anything like that because I can see where she came from while doing them. |

AHS can be so extra sometimes, it's a bit ridiculous. |
I think the tastes shift a bit after a while, but for Party Queen it went the other way which is odd for Ayu.
Generally though, I think the 'taste level' tends to differ wildly between Japanese fans and Western fans and then among Western fans, older fans vs. newer fans. Consensuses are rarely met when it comes to older material from the debut to about 2014 while anything relatively recent is agreed upon. |
Oh and peco leaving had such a positive impact on ayu. Now, even with male back vocals, she doesn't sound like a man.
|
I'm still hesitating on getting the 15th-Anniversary-Deluxe-Edition-Bla-Bla-Bla....
I really want to get that bulky box+digipack+notes+t-shirt (that i'll never wear lol), but €80 is still expansive i find... What do you think ? Is it a good investment ? Will it get more value over the years ? |
Not sure why, but I'm pretty excited for this release! I hope there is some sort of notable difference with the remastering. A Song for XX :heart

They actually did two shoots for Party Queen. The other one got scrapped and used for SUPER AYU while the one we got was probably spur of the moment.

I'd say the t shirts will be able to be resold if unworn. The main cover is probably going to be the most in demand.
People will want to complete the collection. But probably without the cd/photobook. I was able to sell a secret Ayupan for the equivalent of $200, but only because I sold it immediately after opening it. It was the first day of the tour so demand was high. By the end of the tour they were available for far far less. So while the shirts could fetch high prices at first, it's hard to say how long that'll be the case. |

On the other hand, this limited edition isn't out of sale yet, so I can wait a little bit more. |
I haven't bought a physical release in a while. Maybe I should make an exception for this one.

^ yeah honestly I was shocked. I put it up at that price just to see if anyone would buy it. And then someone actually did. Pretty insane. But this was back in 2010.

^ always worth to try :laugh

Wondering if i should get the physical CD copy or the itunes copy.

浜崎あゆみ / 『A BEST -15th Anniversary Edition-』TVCM Part.1

Haah I knew they'd be uploaded eventually

What bothers me is the size of the video. 15 years ago was not the same size as now.. :( |
Quote:
I don't mind that she wants to do a tribute or something like that to celebrate the anniversary of her best selling album, but everything about this release so far has been lazy from start to finish. To now call it a 'new album' when there's ZERO new material on it? When it has the exact same content on it as the original album? I would have thought she had a bit more self-respect than that. =/ |
it will be 5 days countdown
if someone can't wait to see other =) Spoiler:
|
Actually I think it would have been really cool if she'd actually reshoot the exact same CM, or maybe recreate one of her music videos, for the purpose of this release. At least there'd be something extra special about this.
|
I think ayu can't do for this release as much as she did at 2001
and avex don't want to spend any extra money on this, everyone understand that profit will not be the same |
Ahhh I miss that CM guy's voice. Signature Ayu.
|
His voice is still in the "TV-CMs" I think.

I hope the remastering is noticeable, like really, not just when you have expensive earbuds on. |
Hm... when it comes to rereleases in Japan, this is very standard. However, I would expect more effort if she were redoing everything COMPLETELY.
See: Do As Infinity's 2 of Us remakes. |
This isn't being made to move millions of copies, this is made to sell over-priced stuff to collectors and to give people who still doesn't have the original one a new oportunity of owning it. It will most likely move as much copies as Terminal.
The promotional effort is minimal because this is a legacy release, and those usually sell very little. |
IMO, I think this is partly being made because A BEST keeps doing incredibly well on those download charts EVERY YEAR.
|
I actually like that theyre using the old cms lol it just adds to the nostalgia of it all lol
|
DAI's Two of Us was a fantastic release they both paid homage to their musical history AND gave something new to fans. It pandered to both casual fans who only know their hits, and die hard fans who want a reason to buy more of their stuff.
Correct me if I'm wrong but it seems like fans who want to buy the physical release (with all the freebies and stuff) won't get any of the 'new' music (i.e. the acapella tracks) which will only be available on the digital version, which seems silly. The very least they could have done was to throw in some unreleased footage somewhere somehow. Maybe a DVD of the recent TA tour. Even Utada Hikaru's anniversary version of First Love had unreleased tour footage accompanying it. I don't disagree with blatant cash grabs but there are LITERALLY SO MANY WAYS to do it better, and we know for a fact that she does things Properly when she is actually invested in a project (cue Power of Music tour c.f. Hotel Love Songs). I wish she would care again. |
DAI is also unfortunately struggling to stay relevant... even more than ELT does, tbh.
|
^......yeaahhh, not the point of the post. We were discussing merits of each release, not the inherent popularity of artists. By that logic, we would all be totally okay if Ayu wrapped her poop in paper and released it, but we clearly wouldn't be (at least I hope so).
|
I know, but there isn't much that they can do with their material IMO since they already did a sort of COMPLETE BEST and attached their entire video catalog to BRAND NEW DAYS.
I think it was a delightful move and the music is awesome, but unlike Ayu, they had already done stuff similar to what this rerelease entailed and I think Ayu will probably pursue a similar project later on, just NOT with A BEST. Personally I'd have preferred an additional disc with remakes, but maybe for 20 years? |

At this point I guess the remastering is still something to look forward to, since there's absolutely nothing new coming up yet (aside from the tour, which 90% of us won't be attending live). I can get behind higher quality versions of songs like A song for xx and the Loveppears tracks, if it's actually noticeable.
|
i remember clearly that jpopasia spread the news that sixxxxx's (because they consider six as a full length album) sales are ayus lowest album sales since ever. im wondering , if abest will sell better than ayus usual albums, if jpopasia will spread an article with ayus sales increasing again --- :D

Was super hyped when A Best first came out. Feel nothing now. It's great if it works for other people, but for me, all I can see is "wow, THIS was considered high production values in 2001?! damn we've come a long way".
There are different ways to use music to evoke nostalgia. Straight up rehashes are a pretty lazy way to do it. Bands like SPITZ, Mr. Children, Southern All Stars, singers like Yuming, all evoke nostalgia without having to necessarily re-release the exact same album. |
I wonder if the CMs are played in TV channels too? Though it technically says "TVCM"..
|
I just hope that the Limited Edition of A BEST will be around for some more since I am waiting for my payment hopefully at the end of this month.
|
It must be quite nostalgic to be in Japan and if you were an ayu fan back then...and I guess even if you weren't, since you really couldn't do anything without seeing promo or advertisements for something. Wish I could have been in Japan around that time!

I don't mind the fact that they're using an old CM to promote A BEST. I mean, I'm glad they even had the effort to write "15th Anniversary Edition." Promotion is important right now so I'm not going to complain :yes
|
OMG
nostalgia...such an old CM, but the CM still looks so interesting, modern and cool, not looking old at all, High quality production that still relevant even to these days. I wonder if they will show the whole CM...this A BEST CM has countdown version right? I think they will show it all day by day... After saw that CM, I feel so excited for this release... |
I wish they did the logo version too lol

The "First Love" book was this huge nice hardcover that included a TON of old rare photos and behind-the-scenes reports & info. Considering how much A BEST era "making of" photos & content aren't available on TeamAyu's website anymore, this book would have been a great place to reproduce that old content, and yet so far we've been given no indication that those sorts of things will be included (although I'd imagine the "A BEST" wallpaper photos - which are from the making of the CD cover & CM - will probably, hopefully, be there). It was awesome to see reproductions of ads, flyers, and concert passes in "First Love". It's really hard to find magazine ads in decent quality for Ayu's older singles so it would have been awesome to learn A BEST had some of that stuff here. "First Love" had those demos, so early mixes or earlier recordings or the TeamAyu preview track would have been SO COOL to include here audio-wise... It's already upsetting that only the digital release gets the vocal tracks. The inclusion of Hikki's first tour was a HUGE bonus on First Love, and I have to admit, the fact that this A BEST reissue doesn't include Secret Live at Akasaka BLITZ is a huge blow to my anticipation of the release. I'm holding out hope for a 20th anniversary release of some sort that includes at least some footage of it (because honestly all I can figure is that there's no surviving footage of the concert at this point), but it would have been such an awesome addition to this. Not only does the A BEST set pretty much ONLY include one thing I'm interested in (the book), the inclusion of both DVD AND Blu-Ray (OH MY GOD SERIOUSLY WHY DO THIS. WHY.) makes it way too easy for even the biggest fans to classify it as a lazy cash-grab, which is a reeeaaalllly big issue from a PR standpoint, especially such a short time after the 15th Anniversary LOVE/again/LOVE again content duplication fiasco. And the t-shirt seems lazily "designed" and probably won't fit me anyway so that's not a selling point for me at all. |
Quote:
This reissue could've been so much better, that's a fact. However, I'm still looking forward to the anniversary book and the t-shirt. |
I wonder if Ayu wanted to keep that Secret Live out of people's hands, lol. However, that's assuming that the full concert is even recorded anywhere in watchable form...
Personally, I think if they were going to put Secret Live on a release, it'd be a special version of ASFXX with multiple discs. |
Hey did anybody download the CM of a song for xx that was on her channel a few days ago? I forgot to and since the vids are limited time, THEY'RE ALL GONE NOW :(((( It was such HD quality too!!

Remember the time when A BEST CM came out and some Chinese unpopular singer copied the CM idea and turned to be a rubbish music video?
All A BEST CM and promotion were very well done. (Also, NEVER EVER was released about the same time.) |
I love the idea of reusing the old CMs. it's as though she's taking all her fans back to that era again down the road of nostalgia. It feels really good!
|
I'm going to her youtube channel every night to catch the CM of the day ♥

Part 2 is up
it's so funny that we can clearly hear the guy said "Hamasaki Ayumi...NEW ALBUM" WHAT??! NEW??? It's almost 15 years old...LOL.. Maybe it's new though for a youngsters. |
