It's so great that she's performing different songs from the album rather than the same one or two songs :) Makes me think of the tour already!

roxaskh2fm 30th August 2018 03:08 PM

This tour DVD was really OK, nothing special. It wasn't the best day to record, missed the catwalk too (and long hair) :(

Corvina 30th August 2018 03:31 PM

Yeah, it's (of course) simpler than the Zepp version, but man, her voice is effing amazing here!
And I've thought her recent TV lives were really good already.
Also still dig that punk outfit, even if I might be the only one.

Corvina 31st August 2018 07:58 AM

Ok, sorry for double post, but this is amazing.
Kuu is giving away all her thrifted (and redesigned) vintage shirts she wore at the live house venues at the AND FC Tour!
As well as one of the money guns.
Sadly those FC presents are always just for the Japanese Koda Gumi.
She's always giving out presents to her fans with every FC magazine coming out.

And tour was really good, Vocals were on point and i love the rawness and freshness of it all. Very entertaining, I got first class limited vibes.

This is so cool!

About the concert: it was a very good one, even if it's very simple to fit the venue. One of the things I like the most was seeing her energy and passion about performing. You can compare the selfish performance to the Fantasia one and it is as good as it can get, maybe even better in 2010.

The vocals were on point as well. Very solid with little no problem. Now I'm excited to see the Zepp performance.

Gustavopc 31st August 2018 04:01 PM

I'd love to own a t-shirt that Kuu wore even if it'd never fit me :laugh Such a cool giveaway!

thinkingoutloud89 31st August 2018 05:40 PM

I guess we are getting a double DVD for the next tour with the AND Tours bigger venues? or weren't they recorded at all?

Xianghua 31st August 2018 08:00 PM

They should do that type of giveaways in the future! It's a great idea.
I expected it would be limited to the Japanese FC since it would be too expensive to send it internationally. But I don't mind since I know I wouldn't be lucky enough to win one anyway :laugh

Gustavopc 1st September 2018 03:49 AM

Was listening to DNA in full today a couple of times and the intro makes me wonder if we'll have a plot in this tour where Kuu is a robot, or there's both an android and the actual Kuu, cause having a robotic voice talking about having DNA is so contrasting. Since Kuu has been playing with two or mores sides of her for long in her career I'd make sense.

jiarongisme 1st September 2018 04:13 AM

Anyone have any idea where we can download FC DVD 3 contents? Jpopsuki only has the AND tour.

You're provably not too far off, cause yesterday Kuu introtuced the tour shirt in her monthly FC video for September (which is going to be up on her global FC sometime today).

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/8...922/OVPoN0.png

Judging from the rehearsal pics, we also get a sports top this time, which I'm totally stoked about! :heart

First people also got their tickets for the first tour date today:

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/8...922/IfgzLg.png

Speaking of the tour - one of the Tokyo dates is sold out now and the other just has few tickets left (it's a big hall with a capacity of 5k people). If there's somebody still wanting to go to Tokyo, you should act soon.
12 dates are officially sold out now, 13 are almost sold out with just few tickets left and just 9 have some more tickets available right now.

The Tokyo dates were recorded. They could keep it under wraps (I assume Kuu and her team have a lot of unreleased stuff), but yes, with that concept it's likely we'll get a double edition of the tours.
Though probably only as a FC edition, cause FC tours never got released outside her FC.

Regularly no, but CDJapan has a proxy shopping service, so you can ask them to buy the shirt from mu-mo for you (or somebody else does, then it is listed already on their site and you can order it).
And with YesAsia Idk. They did in the past, but in recent years they only had some single tour goods. Maybe it's going to pop up there.

lovethatkuu&ayu 1st September 2018 05:08 PM

Lovely performance. She sounds excellent and rested. Amazing that she still has such a pretty head voice even after almost 20 years of belting it out.

okumura 1st September 2018 08:11 PM

会えなくなるくらいなら is stuck in my head for this whole week... It's such a great ballad - so good to watch it before the tour.
By the way, wonder if she's gonna sing "NEVER ENOUGH" this time; I hope so.

Do you know where I can find the .vob files for the FC 3 DVD ver. of "DNA"?

melissalove 2nd September 2018 02:08 AM

Best TV performance of hers in sometime. that was really good, just beautiful.

maze 2nd September 2018 02:32 AM

I'm in love with this performance and the song itself. Just beautiful

abestfah 2nd September 2018 03:10 AM

Just finished watching AND tour, it is one of my favorite by her immediately. The production is small but her voice and energy are everything here. I like Who, All right and Party, especially Party is like crazy ballroom. Besides, when there are not many effects or equipments, I can be focused on her. Love it!!!

P.s. Love Neonlight shirt.

Corvina 2nd September 2018 06:19 AM

So, I was finally able to lay my hands on the rare live edition of the Dreaming Now! single.
I remember back in the day there were some people, who wanted the special bonus track. I've ripped it.

Also got the rare staff replica shirt for Let's Party Vol.2!
It was only available for purchase for a limited time back then.
I just love all of the goods from her FC lives.

I also have the denim jacket from last years W FACE Tour in S and M size now. S size is so much better fitting for me,though still a bit too loose on the arms.
So if everyone wants the denim jacket in blue in size M, just let me know.
I've worn it just once last year for the live and I'd give it away for a reduced price (up for negotiation).

Happy Kumi no Hi everyone! :grouphug
(Kumi day, 93の日).
A lot of fans are already sharing thoughts and memories about her on social media. For the international fans LiDaYu's new site WKKW is doing something for it as well, if you wanna check out.
I expect Kuu and her team to drop the DNA tour goods throughout the day for purchase from Friday onwards and to post about Kumi day!

I received my copies of DNA 4 days ago and I'm in love with the album. DNA>>>>>AND. I really enjoyed AND but DNA is just f***ing amazing. I played it over 30 times in 4 days and I still can't get enough.

I'm glad that she used 6 different songs to promote the album and that Media Fair performance was flawless.

Quote:

Originally Posted by Corvina (Post 3285256)
Ok, so here are the essentials of what she's talking about in the FC interview
I rather don't translate word-by-word, at least not in English as it's not my native language, so that's why I'm usually just summarizing.

Spoiler:

DNA is overall described as an power album, consisting of Kuu's core sound, staying independently from those ever-changing times (meaning trends, I guess).
She says the album even consists to 200% of the person she currently is.
She tried to focus on the music and its details and declined most of other activities not being connected to music for it.
She acknowledges, that AND included songs, that are probably difficult for fans, who like J-Pop, but she wanted those to go to the concerts, cause that might have changed their perception of them. DNA now has more of her "core" sounds, which consists of different genres, Western and others.
When the interviewer says, that it's easy to listen to, she's happy about that, cause she recorded in between AND Tour dates and even though she knew already how to put the album together in general from the demo stage, the image changed when she was done recording and she knew how to put the setlist for the tour together at the same time. It was quite hard.
She's producing lives for more than 10 years now and in the last 8 years she also produced her music for performing live. She imagines stuff like choreos and costumes and so on while doing so, but as she also knows from her tour questionnaires that "catchy" songs like the ones from the "old" Kuu and easy-to-sing-songs (at karaoke) are popular with her fans as well, she also included songs from her husband and the writer of "you" (people, who already did popular songs among her fanbase).
So in that sense AND is for her fans and DNA more catchy and for everybody.

HUSH
Contains the lyric part "つま先から頭まで遊び、仕事、、get burned", meaning it's bad if you do something halfheartedly. Kuu personally thinks, that life should be fun nevertheless and if she's missing that e.g. in work, she's going to get burned out.
She usually doesn't put single songs as the album openers, but she felt it would be fitting here. She didn't put HUSH on AND, cause she thinks due to its tension it doesn't fit live house venues and is more fitting for a hall tour. And it has a catchy hook.

Dangerous
She wanted to update live songs like POP DIVA and UNIVERSE, cause time has passed since they were released, so she composed Dangerous with her husband. She says she feels like she rather rearranged what her husband presented her with that than producing herself from scratch, but things like the melody are done by her. In detail she says she took the song from her husband and said to him "I want that part to change", went to the studio, erased parts and composed new melodies being in front of the microphone and kept those her husband agreed to. :laugh

WATCH OUT ~DNA~

WATCH OUT was originally for another artist, but Kuu wanted it for herself .
The world now is overflowing with information and she's wondering how you go through the world distinguishing between the good and bad things (for yourself) without being mislead.
She wrote the song in the perspective of a strong woman, who's finding her "own groove" to pull through.
The interviewer then asks about what she personally thinks about all the social media and the current society of excessive information.
Kuu anwers she's not looking at social media (except her own), but it's alright if people who want to do. With her own accounts like on Insta and LINE she says it's always a borderline situation, but she tries to show the real person she is.

ScREaM
The interviewer says he feels like ScREaM is also a song for social media and Kuu agrees (in the sense of bullies and slanders). There's the expression of "high risk - high return" , cause there's always the possibility of a negative response, but it's better to pull through with it and not to dodge away, to understand it as a chance. (in general the song is about - the Japanese - society and fighting against obstacles in it every day)

CHANCES ALL
There's always a song on every album with a strong message Kuu wants her fans to receive. This time it's CHANCES ALL.
It bascially sumps up her own feelings from the songs before - that everybody should have the same chances in life and take their chances, face their obstacles like women, who are constantly judged by appearance, sometimes even just because they are women, just like Kuu is for example as a 派手なアーティスト, a "flashy" artist.
She wants to encourage here and give love and understanding.

会えなくなるくらいなら
A ballad about the tricky feeling of an unrequited love.
Here she's considering she's in her 7th year of marriage, asking herself if she should sing about love (sexual love). She says she noticed she still is very much in love with her husband, but she can remember how it was before, how she fell in love with him, so she decided to do it.

HAIRCUT
It was the first song done and the producer, who did the Dance In The Rain PV - YKBX - already imagined the PV for the song at the time she recorded it. She says cause the song has a western influence, it was easier to convey the metaphor of separation to her fans with her actually cutting her hair with scissors. The interviewer mentions that for him HAIRCUT also is like the rebound of the heart-broken individual from 会えなくなるくらいなら and Kuu is answering laughing, that it also has the meaning of restart, so you can see it like that. She says she likes the tension of rising again after dropping down in the flow of the album.

Guess Who Is Back
It's a new sound for Kuu and she says she always liked artists like Limp Bizkit, Evanescence and Pink and for this song she tried to do a similar sound like Evanescence as Black Clover asked for a rock song. While being aware of the dance (sound) within her, this is a song with a "high tone" she never did in the past and she wants it to be a call-and-response song with her fans.

HOT HOT
It was a popular song from the start and represents her core pretty well. The recording went smoothly. The interviewer says he find it to be the most fitting to the sexy and amusing Kuu and Kuu answers her fans were saying the same and she was surprised by that strong reaction.

心からi love u
This was the most popular song at the pre-release viewing and Kuu says that's probably because this is the typical grand Kuu ballad, but it does sound fresh within the album.
She has many songs with English titles, so she mixed it here to make it stand out.

Work That
The cute song of the album. It was competing with WHO and HUSH to be the 61st single, but as it has a summer feeling and the relase date wasn't in summer, she pushed it back to DNA.
It's a song about men, who act all good on the outside with strangers, but exactly the other way round in private.

Pin Drop
A song about the silence, where you can even hear a pin falling down. It's a live performance song, where she wants to break that pin drop (silence), finally entertaining everyone. She intially wanted to open the album with this song, but she wanted to end the album with a song, that when repeating the album would give a feeling of starting again.
Another meaning is that of "destination" - getting back to the place(s), where "the pin drop was done", breaking that silence.

It's an album full of different songs and songs to be enjoyed live.
And album to mark her ground in the changing times.

Enjoy, I hope I've got everything covered.

Thanks for the translation, Corvina.

Kuu's post about Kumi no Hi today.

She thanks everybody, cause she just was able to become Koda Kumi because of all of us being there.

The second part is more interesting.
She recommends to have second floor seats for the upcoming DNA Tour, cause she thinks the people sitting far away are going to be lucky.
I'm intrigued what she is planningf

kaled kalil 4th September 2018 12:32 PM

I hope the DNA Tour has a stage like Bon Voyage/Dejavu Tour, with stairs and all, since this is going to be more of a regular hall tour.

OMG she's singing Guess Who Is Back with her son on her IG Stories. haha So sweet.

1505 must be including the missing sales from a few stores from the first week.
AND sold better but charted lower. DNA sold less but charted higher. I didn't expect Black Clover tie-in to help, the anime fans must have just bought Guess Who Is Back online w/o buying the album. Meanwhile that late ALL RIGHT tie-in really helped boosting AND sales.

And yea, that Guess Who Is Back feat. her son version was the cutest thing ever.

AND sold worse in its second week, only 1200 copies.
It got a boost in its forth week and sold 1400 copies, but that was because of the 2nd batch of FC versions being shipped out by mu-mo, not because of the tie-in.

It's odd that Rhythm Zone didn't gave avex Taiwan the license to make the CD + DVD of AND , I mean it's not as though the DVD footages are X rated or something o_O

Avex Taiwan seems to be having some issues with the main label in Japan. I've noticed a few major players (Sandaime J Soul Brothers and TVXQ for example) only releasing CD only versions in Taiwan within the past year.

Yeah that's very unfortunate :x

avex Taiwan used to be better & more efficient in making their artistes' releases including Kuu but in recent years , it has not been good

For Kuu , avex Taiwan has made all of her singles from TAKE BACK until HOTEL while for her albums , from feel your mind onwards

Singles wise , avex Taiwan stopped making CD only versions from 2010's Can We Go Back while for her albums , they stopped doing so from WINTER of LOVE

And Driving Hit's 6 was the last remix album avex Taiwan made physical copy wise . Driving Hit's 7 & Driving Hit's 8 were only released digitally :s

I don't know if it's because Kuu can't sell well in Taiwan but already avex Taiwan stopped making her concert DVDs & I hope it wouldn't come to a situation where they completely phrased out in making her releases like what happened when avex Hong Kong shut down in 2014

lovethatkuu&ayu 6th September 2018 05:53 PM

^I honestly think that things are becoming difficult for avex financially in Japan, and it's finally starting to have a real impact on avex taiwan too.

Well, they can no longer depend on certain acts to carry them in terms of sales. Yeah, the company is making money off of Namie, but that won't last into 2019, when people start moving on.

Their main LDH groups are showing signs of slippage. The company is barely shipping platinum with Sandaime J Soul Brothers. EXILE can no longer ship platinum with an original album. E-girls saw their original album sales fall hard this year too.

It's not just the LDH groups to be fair. TVXQ released that high quality BEST and it couldn't ship platinum. The studio album they're about to release, will be their weakest seller in a decade. AAA will see their 2018 album struggle to break 100k in sales. The company isn't making much from actual physical sales these days. The only thing they can count on is the avex live division. That is what has been holding the company up for the past couple of years.

Yeah, it's crap Avex isn't doing too well but when you think of their bigs acts from back in the day (Ayu, Kumi, BoA, Ai, Do As Infinity, Every Little Thing etc) and what they're selling now and acts who are retiring/disbanded (Namie, Globe) I guess sales aren't great. They don't have any new big stars to depend on.

lovethatkuu&ayu 8th September 2018 05:37 PM

^They really don't and it's their own fault.

When idol fever/group mania kicked off, avex firmly jumped on the bandwagon and abandoned their old business model. Before the idol boom, they believed in keeping a diverse portfolio of talent. They were also willing to invest and develop artists with long-term potential too. After 2010? Not at all.

^^ Same as most western labels today.

It got a boost in its forth week and sold 1400 copies, but that was because of the 2nd batch of FC versions being shipped out by mu-mo, not because of the tie-in.

Does Oricon count the copies sold at the concert venues? DNA FC Edition is still available at the FC store, pretty sure more ppl will buy the album after attending DNA Tour.

I wish Kuu released DH9 along with DNA tour goods, I'd love to have some badass HUSH, Dangerous, WATCH OUT, Guess Who Is Back and Pin Drop remixes. Maybe she saves it for the next year or maybe DH8 didn't sell enough to warrant another remix album.

This is amazing! thanks a lot for sharing

I still love that live version of Ai no uta @ a-nation we got in one version of Dreaming Now! single and I couldn't be happier to get the live version of LALALALALA now as well. :weep I remember how all of us wanted that Summer Trip special live to be released as a bonus DVD on Bon Voyage... because she performed the outstanding and astonishing Get Up & Move!! after so many years, lol

Her vocals are so on point in these live versions and so are the live instruments. FLAWLESS

Edit::

This is great but sad at the same time, I wish I were rich so I can afford these fanclub editions of her stuff :cry her designing team is amazingg

I got my copy of DNA the other week but haven't had much time to listen to it with Namie's retirement. I've only given it 1 spin so far with Guess Who Is Back being my favourite. I think AND is my favourite of the two but need to give this album a few more listens.

maze 10th September 2018 02:11 AM

I find this interview quite interesting, she was actually planning to retire three times during her career.. first one when still flopping even if big tie-ins were given to her with real emotion/1000 no kotoba single (2003), second time right after the 2008 scandal. And last one I suppose when she got pregnant and wanted to dedicate her time to her family (2011).

I guess it's the same thing she said in her Koda Reki book but summarized/in other words XD

SPORT SHIMBUN INTERVIEW translation (part one) 2018.08.16

Another translation for today! This is the interview Kuu-chan did recently for the newspaper Sport Shimbun. I will post the first part of the translation.
Once again, I am not fluent in Japanese, so I might be wrong sometimes. If you see a mistake, feel free to mention it in the comments! Thank you for your support!

You can find the full interview in Japanese here

Koda Kumi, from erotic-cool to mama-cool

Singer Kumi Koda (35) 's new album' DNA 'will be released on August 22nd. This is the second album of this year following "AND" in February. "As it is mentioned in the title, this album has been created from my DNA, I want you to listen to my music once, to see it evolving in a good way." Koda Kumi is associated with the "erotic cool" boom in Japan and won the Japan Record Award 5 years after her debut, but "It was all I could do to drive Koda Kumi back then." There was apparent misunderstanding and pressure to continue to be at the top, she said "the feeling of aiming at being a woman, or a cool mother, is clear." She also talked about three retirement crises and family talks.

This album DNA will be the second album released this year, but there is a different message put in each one. “AND is about pursuing music. Normally I want to listen to a wide variety of genres in various ways, so I made catchy pop songs, but the main reason behind making this album is for live performance at fan club events. DNA and AND have the letters order reversed. It's going to be the 20th anniversary of my debut in two years. While reflecting about this, I thought, "What are the roots that I have built?" Beginning with popular songs, I can not remove ballads, sexy dance, American pops, RandB too. Because the inner me is rock music, I want to put it in. I put music that can feel makes the DNA of Koda Kumi. Especially "CHANCES ALL", which carries the message I want to say the most, I want everyone to listen to it. "

This time, she also worked on the lyrics and production of some songs. She got married to Kenji03 (member of rock band BACK-ON) in 2011 and gave birth to their first child the following year. She doesn’t seem to feel the pressure of work too hard.

"I am married now and my child is 6 years old. There are lots of things I have to do, such as taking care of my family or housekeeping when I am at home. However, when I’m told ‘It will take 2.5 hours by Shinkansen, or 1 and a half hour” this is when the lyrics comes to me with a burst. I noticed recently that this happens when I’m stuck in a confined space. While listening to the lyrics and listening to nearly 200 songs on the demo tape during the shinkansen trip, I listened to lyrics and songs that will be mainly the next studio work rather than songs that are meant to be sung live during the tour."

Q: What are the tricks for songwriting?

A: "I write down the word I was interested in for a while, but in this case I decided the theme of the song first, then while listening to that song, I choose the words that feel the most relevant to the song. If I don’t feel like writing the song, I will leave it to the song writer. My husband told me, “you can write so smoothly”. My husband thinks a lot with his brain, but I think sensitivity is also important. I am the type to often fall in love, in my twenties I often felt “liking” or “love”. It has changed since I have a family with more and more human love.

This year marks 18 years since her debut. There has been times when she was losing herself.

"About three years ago, when I went to visit a temple in Kawasaki, I was stopped by Mr. Yasushi" come here". He said, "Why did you get so rounded up/calm? I liked when you looked happy in the past. ". This person didn’t know me as Koda Kumi the singer, it was a complete pass. Whether you take the plus or the minus, or leave it alone, it is up to you however, I was told that, inside myself, I guessed exactly right. I accepted myself properly as "Koda Kumi, if you do this you are hopeless".

This is when you became calm (round).

“Once I asked myself, would it be better to become calmer/round. If you are doing it for a long time you will get wisdom in many ways. Even if your staff is doing their best, if you forcibly make impossible, it will be hopeless or something.
A lot of small compromises were piled up. I do not want to be disliked. I am getting older and steadier and becoming weaker .... Koda Kumi is a lion, while Kumiko Koda is a rabbit. I am very lonely. (…)

She started receiving recognition from the public 5 years after her debut. "Erotic cute" became a buzzword and she became the top star at that moment…

"I could not keep up with it. Also when girls with the same hairstyle and fashion came out, saying "Koda Kumi is amazing" like .... I have a place desperate to catch up with the buzz from behind.
Because I am not the type to check on the internet etc. on my own, so I asked the staff "Now, in the world how is Koda Kumi perceived?’, and then "I see. Well then I will try to do something like this ". Basically, I want people to think that I am cool, I still have not changed about that. Even if I have a family I want people to think “I want to become such a mother/woman”. That goal has not changed for a long time. "

Koda Kumi’s career looks like it was carried by favorable winds since her debut. However, she said she had thought of retiring three times in her life.

The first time:

“Before my debut, at 20 years old, I went singing until 2 o'clock in the morning in live houses When going to Gunma and Ibaraki with my manager by car, I was singing at the customers 's favorite place and thought "What am I doing? I did not become a singer to do such things.”
I didn’t think that I wanted to sing even if nobody buys my music, rather I wanted to give courage to people, so since I wanted to see this world, I do not need to sing if I can not see it. When "real Emotion" became the theme song of "Final Fantasy" in the third year, I was told that "there is no artist that can get such big tie-ups and still cannot sell". So, if I still could not sell properly, I would prepare for retirement, that my voice was not being accepted in this world."

The second time:

"It is when I made inappropriate remarks on the radio. While my intention was to do an interesting talk, I hurt people because of the vocabulary I used and my lack of knowledge. Even though it is my work to use words carefully to create lyrics, I though this time it will be impossible to be forgiven. I was crying all the time at home.
People also left and there was no other time in my life when I thought that I wanted to die as much as I did back then.
When I came back there was nothing with evil intent, but if there was bad intention, Koda Kumi will stop. I became scared of speaking on TV since then, even one word. Whatever I said, I thought there would be some kind of misunderstanding ... "

To be continued….

cosmicfirefly 10th September 2018 06:28 AM

That's a really interesting interview! I felt so bad reading about the times she felt like retiring, I'm glad she didn't.

wednesday 10th September 2018 08:01 AM

I didn’t realize the Kingdom era was that dark for her. I mean, we knew she was seriously unhappy, but the language she used in this interview is intense. It actually breaks my heart.

Corvina 10th September 2018 08:17 AM

It really was. She gained a bunch of weight and apologized before every frigging concert of Kingdom Tour and on TV. She lost commercial contracts and so on. Even avex didn't really give her a rest.

A friend of mine (well, hello Gubsi, I guess it was you :laugh ) said once, that you can feel on her Trick album, how conflicted she still was. It was the first album she released after it. I've never connected it before, but the theme of trick and illusion was really revealed in a different light in connection to the 'scandal'.

On another topic...where are the tour goods?
They never were this late and there's no message about it either.
Tour starts this coming Friday.
I am excited to see the tracklist and hopefully some report about it. As she indeed follows that reversed theme further with AND Tour being for her FC fans and being close and DNA Tour to be better enjoyed sitting farer away from her.

Would you mind going in depth about this? I'm really curious to hear what you think!

lovethatkuu&ayu 10th September 2018 11:18 AM

It was a very dark and scary time for her.

As a fan, it was just crazy witnessing the backlash. You can feel the tension and somber vibe in MOON and that feeling definitely carried over into TRICK. Looking back, her 2009 material with the exception of Alive/Physical thing feels so icy and indifferent. It really wouldn't be until Gossip Candy that things felt ok again. It took Kumi 2+ years to fully process the All Night Nippon incident.

Tour goods are out. https://rhythmzone.net/koda/news/detail.php?id=1065401

I love the vaporwave style in the t-shirt and towel, but I guess not all goodies are up on the fc shop? So few stuff lol

And is that controller thing the lightstick? It looks odd o__o

Yay, finally!

They're going to sell the AND Tour goods and the goods from a-nation including all sold out items together with the DNA Tour goods!
Once those are sold out, they are sold out for good!

This is interesting:
Quote:

さらに『AND』からはじまったツアーも『DNA』で完結!
They say the tour that started with AND is now going to be completed with DNA!
Sounds to me like DNA Tour is going to be a continuation of AND Tour.

Not that many goods this time, but it's also a shorter tour and they sell all goods from this year together.
I love that pants & bra set! Totally awesome!
Also totally expensive, but as I only like 4 of those goods anyway, that's alright for me. :P
And thank god there's size S again for the shirt.

lovethatkuu&ayu 10th September 2018 12:35 PM

Interesting wording about the tours being connected. If that is the case, then maybe we will get the Tokyo AND recording in a combo package.

The controller light stick is cool. If the storyline for this tour is Kumi as an android, then it makes perfect sense. I think there will be a 2nd batch released midway through. I wouldn't mind having the t-shirt and towel.

I'm feeling the 80s iconography going on in the goods.

Gustavopc 10th September 2018 12:37 PM

Yeah, if there's a robot/video game/VR theme to it the lightstick would be cool, but to me it doesn't seem... Ergonomic? :laugh

I'd also get me the towel and tee, but dang... A pamphlet in this vaporwave style would have been everything :( Or at least just a poster... Oh well...

It's possible, but I wouldn't expect it.
They don't mention those being the first batch of goods and they usually do that.
Plus as I said it's a short tour and they're advertising the goods with selling everything together at the venues with AND and a-nation.

Ok, so here you go, jiarongisme and everybody interested in it. :laugh
Long post, beware, so I put it under a spoiler.
Hope you can follow my thoughts.

Spoiler:

TRICK was released in January 2009, about a year after the incident.
If you look at it as a whole, you'd just say it's an album about delivering a show and it's her trick to gain all the attention, just like she's singing in the intro of the album and like the main promotion song show girl suggests.
Like she wants to deviate from what happened the year before, just doing her job, going on with her life.

I took it like that at first as well and in a sense it also is like that, though it always did strike me a bit odd, that she did a magic show as release event, where things are an illusion of how they really are. Or how the visuals are done with one part her being a clown and the other herself, being dressed for a show/circus/vaudeville show, where trick doesn't fit.
Now after Gubsi mentioning to me, how you can feel her struggle in the album, it suddenly struck me.
If you take a closer look at the lyrics and how the songs are placed, you can take it as a statement about the scandal and her feelings in it.

After the intro it goes on with TABOO, where she's inviting you "to things you've never seen before", showing things and sides that are taboo and can only be showed at night - or as part of a show on stage, cause it's not real.
She's even asking, it it's a mistake or an illusion and which side you like in the song. It's about discovering.
It goes on with show girl, a song about Kuu being the show girl.
You wouldn't expect it, but the lyrics are quite deep.
The important point is, that she's singing about being a "rumoured show girl" with all those "rumoured methods" she uses to capture the audience.
When she's putting on a show, she's the show girl, the confident woman, but there's a "secret behind her veil" and "If you extend your hands, it'll feel like you can reach it, but you can't", cause it's just an illusion.
And an ever on-going struggle.
The show girl is just an illusion, cause that's not all she is.
If you meet Kuu outside of her show, she's standing before you as a normal person, not as the show girl. And the public, the audience thinks they know, who she is, but in reality, they don't know, that's why she is the "rumoured show girl".
In the next songs she's singing about "abusings of the pasts" (Your Love) and the first time in the album about things she regrets having done (stay with me).
Then there comes This is not a love song, a song about that she "can't heal yet", "no matter how much she sings". It is a song about the love to a man, but the words she uses are strikingly fitting for her situation at that time. And compared to the songs before and after very aggressive in tone. Driving next is about heading to an unknown destination, just starting to move and she's asking the passenger (us!) to just go with her.
Sitting here in the middle of the album at that point gives it a really pleading character, quite strong! She wants to go on, but she doesn't know where it's going to lead or where to go, just that she's not sitting alone in her career car.
Then there are the two collabos lumped together. I don't really see a correlation in the lyrics - they're collabos and I guess she is grateful for the support (That Ain't Cool was a birthday present from Fergie after all), so she put them on the album and just put them together in the middle.
But that does mean you can directly go from Driving to Hurry Up!.
A song about being betrayed by someone you don't know well, but had a good time together. She's directly singing "her efforts came to nothing" and being impatient about how to go on.
Moon Crying after that was the first single, the first release, after the scandal. A heart-wrenching ballad as a main song for a summer sinlge! And it's another song about remorse, about regretting doing something. On first glance it's a song about love, but you can interpret the you she's talking to as the audience. Or maybe even her old self? And it's another song where she's directly singing about, well, singing. It's very present in the whole album.
JTWYA now being about her best friends, she accepts as they are and who are always on her side. She even had her real female friends in the PV for it. So her real friends, who supported her all through that bad time after the scandal, are the topic of the song. At this point it could also mean she's accepting that side of her, who made that reckless remark, too. Like she concludes the song with "I should just walk as myself" and before mentioning "Yeah, today I'll turn forward".
And only now, after all that up and down of feelings through the whole album, we have her first very typical happy and uplifting "be yourself" Kuu pop song!
One line gets back to the show girl theme again:
"Bluffing, yeah, isn't a bad thing
Everyone gets stronger that way".
It's her stage she can be confident on, the illusion she was able to take on for that hard time, forgetting that there was the scandal present around her every time she stepped down the stage.
But also the illusion that she just can be who she is in public.
The album finishes with a good feeling, with her words of love.
"I'll sing the words of love"... "to a tomorrow overflowing with joy".
So she's ending with hope that it will change again.

I seriously had my problems with the album. I still have honestly, it feels pretty disconnected and scattered to me, but that's because it is. All those different feelings scrammed together without a proper direction (she could have lumped together all ballads and all aggressive rockier songs e.g.).
She pretty much always did that with her albums, which is why I didn't thought too much about it first. But when Gubis mentioned, how conflicted he felt she still was in the album, just then I was able to see it. I mean I expected it with the first singles, but not a year after with the full album.
Like she starts with in show girl: "Up & down emotion, they won't stop".
For the night you attend the show.
For the time you listen to the album.
For Kuu at that time.

The visuals fit to that. Kuu is depicted one person doing the whole circus/the show. I mean, she is a solo artist and you can take it just as a symbol for that, but they could have easily shown some audience or other artists in the album shoot. Or real animals.
They didn't. She is all alone.
The clown costume is just a cover. The make up has a tear on one side for symbolizing both sides of life like usual for a clown and most probably also that sadness was part of her daily life back then.
So there's the illusion, the trick, capturing the attention, but not giving everyhing and also not receiving everything there is.
Cause it never is the whole reality and it is an illusion to think it is.

lovethatkuu&ayu 10th September 2018 04:23 PM

Very detailed and interesting analysis of one of her best overall albums.

It's sad she couldn't enjoy 2009 in hindsight. TRICK was a 2 week chart topper, all her singles charted top 2, and the arena tour was a success. She also started regaining major contracts too. A shame that she didn't have the chance to really rest and process such a traumatic experience.

Wow, what a detailed analysis. Thank you for that! To date, I never really looked into the lyrics of the album and just felt that the album and tour was just... Alright. But this got me really interested! I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that she was still deeply hurt during this era. I guess I didn't think about it much, thinking that she bounced back straight after Kingdom but based on your analysis, it felt like a cry for help almost. Damn Kuu, I'm so glad you're better now.

Gustavopc 10th September 2018 05:24 PM

I share some similar feelings towards TRICK... As much as I some tracks on it are among my all time fav songs of hers, the whole thing just feels all over the place. I had already linked the TRICK theme to a performer persona vs her original self, mainly cause I went on reading about pierrots around the time, but didn't take it too deep other than the album shooting and the first couple of tracks. Thanks a lot for sharing these insights, Corvina!

One thing that always bugged me regarding that era is the first act of the tour. She comes out in the stage in a white outfit, and after the intro, TABOO starts. But despise it being such a powerful song to dance to, the choreo is really different and it has a theme of a dictatorship? Or controlling robots? The dancers are all faceless and dance rather "stiffy" and emotionless. There's also a video of her in the screen in a room that looks like a futuristic headquarters. Now I'm starting to see it more related to the lyrics of TABOO than the music itself... But still I can't connect that to the undressing scene before show girl :laugh At the time it felt to me like a theme she had for the tour way earlier than the album became complete (that outfit was already shown at the end of the Kingdom Tour) and she changed the tour theme but kept that opening act :P I'll give it another watch to see if I can fit that into her feelings from that time.

Xianghua 11th September 2018 01:17 AM

That's really interesting. I never would have guessed it affected her as long and as much as it did. At that time I thought it just blew over by the time of the next album. I've always loved most songs on TRICK but for some reason did not have the same feeling for the album as a whole and never could explain why. Maybe it was that disconnect that I never caught on to. And after reading this I see the songs in a new light.

Speaking of TRICK, I was wondering about this: I have the CD+2DVD overseas version, and included in the packaging was a duplicate of disc 1 in a small envelope, stuck outside of the jewel case. It has every song except the bonus track, Venus.

I always thought it was strange and I don't understand the point of it. So I'm wondering if this was also the case for the Japanese version and if anyone knows why. This is it:

KarenPang 11th September 2018 05:46 AM

^ Is your copy of TRICK made in Hong Kong or Taiwan ?

My copy of TRICK was made in Hong Kong and Venus is included in the main CD . But I did not receive a duplicate disc like yourself

I'm not sure if back then avex Taiwan had production issues with TRICK though :confused

Xianghua 11th September 2018 06:06 AM

^ hm it's Taiwan version. It says the publisher is avex asia limited? Back then I bought it from yesasia and I just logged back into my account but the item page doesn't mention anything about this extra disc. The main CD has the bonus track, but the 2nd copy doesn't.

YesAsia is misleading cos not necessary everything they listed on their website are all made in Taiwan

Especially since YesAsia is based in Hong Kong & Avex Hong Kong was still in existence until it shut down in 2014

Anyway I think your copy of TRICK is made in Hong Kong , not Taiwan . Avex Asia Limited is the old company name used before its name changed to Avex Hong Kong Limited in 2008

Another way to check is the catalogue number found on the side of your TRICK album . My Hong Kong press of TRICK catalogue number is AAJCD20029DE

If it's AVJCD10379/A , then it's made in Taiwan

Avex Taiwan kept the 1st press aspect of TRICK intact so for your case it probably was a manufacturer issue

Xianghua 11th September 2018 06:37 AM

Ooh I just checked the number and yep, it's made in Hong Kong.
So many different presses it gets confusing. :O I guess it really is some weird manufacture issue.
Thanks, Karen!

Hello everyone, I have a plan to go to Japan this December to join Ayu's TROUBLE tour (I've got the tickets).

I also want to join Kuuchan's DNA tour - just 1 day right after Ayu's performances but I missed the 「Koda Kumi Fanclub Tour ~DNA~」advanced ticket reservation.

From Kuuchan's official website I found: https://l-tike.com/st1/kodakumi-dnaticket/sitetop
but it requires Japan phone number for SMS authentication... I'm outside Japan :(.

Admin of Welcome to Koda Kumi World just shows me this link:
https://www.viagogo.com/Concert-Tick...i-Koda-Tickets

Have anyone ever bought ticket in this website before? Is it safe for me to buy tickets? Or someone could you please show me how to buy Kuuchan's DNA tickets??

Thanks in advance so much!!

The first link from her official site is the official regular ticket sale. But you need a Japanese phone number and a Japanese creditcard or access to a Japanese Lawson to pay the ticket.

With viagogo I have no idea if it is trustworthy, sorry.
Would say no, cause as I said the only official way to buy tickets is the link from her official site.

There aren't many tickets left altogether (viagogo says just 1%, sounds about right). So you might want to check out reseller shops or auction in Japan.
Hope you can make it, but you guys should really check earlier for tickets, if you really wanna go.

KarenPang 12th September 2018 08:25 AM

Want to add on that for Lawson , if your ticket balloting is successful , you have to go to any physical Lawson conbini stores and request the staff to help you print the concert tickets

Not only that , you have to pay a fee for that to get done

And like what Corvina said , I also don't trust Viagogo too . Another alternative is to check auction sites or official ticket sites if they still have Kuu concert tickets

Another is to go to the concert venue itself and buy last minute issued tickets . That's risky cos not all the time this happen but if you're willing to take a gamble , then this might work but I wouldn't recommend

Be it if you obtain tickets from Kuu's fanclubs and/or general sale , they're all done by balloting and you will not know your ticket number until you receive them

It's not like here where it's based on 1st come 1st serve basis and where you can choose the seats

When you see tickets sold on auction site , you will already know if the ticket number printed on it is it good or bad . For this if the seats are good , you naturally will pay a much higher price and not the face value of what the ticket is worth

Her FC annoucned a photobooth campaign for DNA Tour!

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/6...922/M5QXMe.jpg

There's a photobooth with a set (!) from the HAIRCUT PV set up on every date of the tour.
If you make a photo and upload it on Instagram (with the hashtags #倖田來未DNA #倖田組 #playroom) + following Kuu's official Instagram account, you'll get a special sticker if you show the post to the staff of the photobooth.

They expect it to be really crowded, so they ask for everyone's cooperation.
Photos have to be taken by everyone themselves and they would appreciate if every person/group wouldn't take longer than 20 seconds (lol).
Everyone can participate, even though the hashtags are her FC names.
1 sticker is handed out for 1 photo post (so if a group is on the photo, there's only one sticker given out cause it's just one photo posted on Instagram).
While supply lasts.
The set used for the photobooth may vary from date to date.

------------------------------------------------------

@ takamioda
Kuu always has just one FC ticket round for her international FC

@Marurosu
Yes, it is.
Almost all dates are either sold out or only have few tickets left.

Gustavopc 12th September 2018 03:51 PM

Ohh, nice ideia, it'll get some buzz on instagram around her and also gives out a sticker to people, really cool!

I'm SO ansious to see the setlist for the tour, really hoping she performs every song from the album.

I'm also not living in Japan too

Unfortunately since you already missed the only time to ballot tickets via Kuu's international fanclub , the other option for you to undertake is buy them online via auction sites & you have to be willing to pay more than the actual cost of the ticket

If all else fails , just go to the concert venue on the day you plan to attend and see if anyone plans to sell their tickets . You sometimes can find people post online that they plan to do that and you can do a face to face transaction on the spot

Doesn't sound like last minute issued tickets will be made available on the day of the concert to me :s

Hall venues are a lot smaller than Arena so it's probably a 50/50 chance if you decide to go to the venue on the particular day you plan to attend and try your luck to buy tickets on the day itself

If not , check the auction sites . Tickets are usually received 1-2 weeks before each concert date and maybe by then some might put them up for sale

Sellers usually sell tickets in a pair , I seldom see them sell just 1 ticket so it really depends

Neon pink!
Not surprised, we probably get some glowing-in-the-dark performances again as it's connected to AND TOUR.
Which is why her performing NEVER ENOUGH and OUTTA MY HEAD makes sense as well. :laugh

Reading some comments on Twitter and Insta.. People mention how awesome it was sitting higher on the stands, but nobody mentions why! xD. Some even recommend having 2nd or 3rd floor seats (like Kuu did).
Reading more some say the concert is on arena tour level and one guy even says it instantly became on of his favourite tours.
She talked about Namie in her MC. She recently went to a w-inds concert.

The Japanese articles all mention, that it's a futuristic theme with a high entertainment value (and even say it's overwhelmingly impressive and a must-watch concert this year).
