2,000 more and it enters the less than 100,000 range of Secret!

TITANIC 19th March 2008 02:56 PM

yaiy..
the chart is going steadier....

hope it can long run chart

564,000 is not too bad for GUILTY. Hopefully it will last a bit longer on the charts, 570K would be awesome. ;D

TITANIC 20th March 2008 02:42 PM

what is the position actually???

Luv ~Venus~ 20th March 2008 06:55 PM

that's awesome! secret to guilty has the least decrease in sales compared to her other studio albums :D

somethinglost 22nd March 2008 07:14 AM

I think the reason there wasn't a huge decrease from Secret to GUILTY is that there are a lot of major things happening for Ayu right now that bring a lot of attention to her music. She has her 10th anniversary thing, a new Asia tour, loss of hearing, etc.

Jwiz 22nd March 2008 07:43 AM

^ That's right, these are added publicity on top of the heavy promotions which were going on when GUILTY was released.

TITANIC 23rd March 2008 02:37 PM

i found in indonesian chart for february's chart i think GUILTY is 2nd highest sales for asian CD chart...

asian chart :
1. L'arc en ciel (KISS) 2,296 copies
2. ayumi hamasaki (GUILTY) 1971 copies
* namie amuro (PLAY) 767 copies ( i dont know the position)

for overall indonesian chart

GUILTY got #21
L'arc en ciel (KISS) #15
Namie Amuro (Play) #56

NB : i dont know this is accurate or not

poor ayu.
maybe because 60s70s80s realese give good impact for play album

ayumisrael 24th March 2008 05:06 PM

60s70s80s pretty much gave PLAY a boost most likely.

namie is also STILL charting after more than 9 months and even higher then ayu's

it doesn't matter only around 40K, not much different imo ...in a few months time both will be around the same

look at the progression of these two jpop queen:

(2000)
ayumi hamasaki Duty : 2,904,420
namie amuro break the rules : 334,520

(2003)
ayumi hamasaki Memorial address : 1,062,297
namie amuro STYLE : 221,874

(2008)
ayumi hamasaki GUILTY : 564,290
namie amuro PLAY : 526,225

the difference was used to be SO MUCH...now? it's barely.

I'm not surprised of Namie getting more popular and Ayu selling less. Namie's music style IMO attracts more people now. As for Ayu, she has been sticking with the same music genre, except for the hardcore rock that is getting less and less popular in Japan. HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR (a rock band) aren't as popular as they were when they debuted. Right now, people seems to be a lot more into urban or mellow rock like YUI, ayaka, Kobukuro... Pop is slowing fading away.

namie is going the creative and ever changing style of music, while new comers like ayaka, YUI are going the simple yet new/refreshing style of music..

ayu is just going the same flashy, high-production, depressing lyrics, emotional songs, fancy PVs she did for years and years....

when you do something the same for too long a time, it's normal for ppl to get bored and uninterested with it, it's reality...

I would compare Secret sales with PLAY though, last year general sales were better than this year :yes

Well, I don't necessarily agree that Namie's style is "ever-changing". For me, she's always sort of going with the same style of music. But it's always really catchy and she's really different from other urban singers.

Agree though that artist like ayaka are refreshing. I've always been a huge fan of the mellow rock genre with really instruments and all that.

It's true that Ayu likes to go with the fancy and flashy stuff. I wish she stopped doing all that though. It seems like she's more about being glamorous now. I prefer the old days when she used to just wear a shirt and jeans in a TV perf. and look damn cool.

Obviously because GUILTY was released 2 months ago. You could compare Namie's latest album sales PLAY that was released 8 months ago, to ayu's lastest album Secret that was released 7 months before PLAY (you could do it just 2 months ago).
Now that is not fair is it?

And it's obvious ayu's album sales won't go up if something special wouldn't occure.

but isn't it obvious that namie PLAY should STOP charting after 9 months of release??? But look what happened now? Do you think given 9 months after GULITY release it will still be charting at all? It's selling less then PLAY only in it 12th week!

SO it should be unfair to compare PLAY with GUILTY and not the other way round! PLAY was released so long back it should be dead and gone while GUILTY should be selling quite well since it just released 2 months back... but now the situation is opposite!

elepop 24th March 2008 05:54 PM

Ayu isn't a long charter no more, I wouldn't be surprised that in 9 months GUILTY would stop charting.

Because it's sold the most at the first 2 weeks (like always) and ayu didn't release any triple a-side single/album since then that will keep it charting?

Generally ayu's chart life wasn't even great on Secret and miss albums.

Hip hop is a niche genre in Japan, it's not very popular. Pop is still the dominant form of music, by far.

Ayu is getting less popular because her music is getting less mainstream and she's been pretty damn overexposed the for the last decade. People get sick of you when your face is everywhere.

But artists like Morning Musume, BoA and Ai Otsuka aren't really getting more popular though. Instead, we have artists like Namie, Koda, GReeeeN, Ken Hirai, EXILE getting more fame.

What will keep it charting depends on the singles that was released for the album and the promotion though the live concerts..

for namie, her PLAY tour did A LOT of promotion for the album...those who can't decide or dun buy PLAY, when they went to her PLAY tour 2007, they are WOW!!! and immediately go buy her album...so it still charting very well

for ayu, her concerts dun even feature much of her new album songs, only her regular old school songs, that's why it's hard to promote her new album to those who never listened/bought it yet...

Well there was a tour to promote Secret, but Secret didn't chart anymore until the tour came and she sang most of the songs from that album (until that Day..., 1 LOVE, kiss o' kill, momentum, JEWEL, Secret and there were Not yet, LABYRINTH, tankist) she didn't sing Startin', BLUE BIRD, BF and Born To Be... because she already sanged them. So much for old school songs but at the end ayu sings most of the new albums songs and leave out 1 or 2 unsanged which is pretty normal.
I think that Tour though was more to promote her in ASIA. She's really successful out there it seems.

no...i dun think so

there's only like 3~4 new album tracks in the concert while all the rest are her new singles or old singles...

for PLAY TOUR, she performed ALL the songs in the album! You practically listened to the whole album when you go for the concert which is a +++ for the promotion...

The only artist that actually produces R&B listed there is Ken Hirai, and he's in a pretty big slump. The others may have some hip hop influenced tracks, but they're all famous for their ballads. Namie and Kuu's pop/kawaii singles always do better than their other tracks. While select pop artists are going downhill, that has more to do with their own failure to evolve than the slump of pop music; JE bands are still dominating the industry.

Yet the only song from Secret that were never sang live is It was
from (miss) - criminal, In The Corner
MY STORY - HOPE or PAIN, Liar

etc. She just leaves 1-2 songs out that she never perform (or will perform in the future), I think it's mainly because ayu loves to balance old and new songs and I do think it's better because it's full of fans flavors, but new songs as well to get them recognised to the fans and make them a show combined with the old songs, rather than a whole new album and just 3 old songs or something, but those are preferences and ways of an artist to do a show.

I totally agree with this. :yes :dead2 She feels really fake when she's all about dresses and jewellery. I'm not saying that looking good and glamorous is a bad thing or anything (it's just good if you're attending a special occasion or something) but it's almost like she's like that all the time (expect at concert encores etc).
I liked t2m style because it was raw and sort of messy and not "is my hair looking good? I just spent billions of money to this dress~~ Gosh my fake lashes are falling off..." =___=''
I like Ayu's style during her earlier career years, when she could look stylish and cool but still real and wore less makeup. Like that military-style dress she wore at some "NEVER EVER" perfomance looked good on her even though it was really simple and didn't look like a overdecorated christmas tree. And Ayu is pretty with a minimal amount of makeup :P
was this very off-topic? :laugh

So in other words I think she should become less commercial and be natural and real again in public too (not only at her concerts and so on), since I think that's what most of people in Japan loved about her most at first. And it could help to increase her sales. :cool

My Rainbow 24th March 2008 10:58 PM

Totally dissagree! She is more than a simple singer, she's an icon such as Madonna! She's all about fashion and style! She's a DIVA!

i have a different idea..
this year will become her 2nd lower sales after 1998 era...

i predict she can sell 1,2 million copies this year

Do you know by any chance if ayu already sold overall more than 20 million albums copies?

Melon Panda 26th March 2008 07:54 PM

Ayumi is known for being larger than life, in a sense, so I actually expect her to come up with flashy outfits, flashy choreography, flashy makeup, etc. Why isn't she humble and modest? Because she's the J-Pop EMPRESS.

Right! Let Hikki be humble and modest, that's what make her unique. Flashy outfits, makeup, choreographies make ayu unique!

About sells, ayu still really strong!

LEOyumi 27th March 2008 12:39 AM

I hope the album stays for a long time in the charts.. And it goes up at least a little with the Asia Tour! Anyway, the sales are good, not her best but still good ^^

tokyoxjapanxfan 27th March 2008 12:50 AM

i like ayu's over-the-top outfits, however, i do miss when she was more relatable. girls used to imitate her, now they really can't...she doesn't wear stuff that's practical--which isn't a bad thing, as her outfits are amazing. But they're definitely costumey :P Her "greatful days" performances were some of my favorites, style wise. she was rockin' the von dutch hats back then xD those hats are barely worn now haha

TITANIC 27th March 2008 02:49 PM

thanks for the info..
i will edit 1st page...

seems the sales will end for 20 weeks on chart
i wish more than that

Why oricon made a spazz when she sold over 20 million single copies but not when she sold over 20 million albums though?

There's actually nothing wrong with it (unless if you thought she will sell 10 billions forever) :o and it's still charting! 565k isn't a low number :yes

Hmm....well, your prayers might be answered. It looks like she can make it to 570K by the end of next month. The album just needs to sell steady and slow like it is now. :yes I hope she can make it to 580K by the end of the summer.

TITANIC 30th March 2008 08:38 AM

Yeah, it would be awesome if it kept selling like that for a while~
Just how much does touring increase sales though? I want to know if I can increase my expectations to 600k~ that would be so cool :cool

Ayumiko 2nd April 2008 04:53 AM

sales from outside the concert arenas during tours don't count towards the charts do they? I always wonder about that.
