Anyway, I watched the What We Do video and the video totally changed what I thought the meaning of the song was lol. I thought it was about her cheating on her boyfriend who doesn't appreciate her, and what have you. I suppose it still has that meaning. They just made the video more of a girl power kinda thing haha.

Yeah especially back in 2007 she was pretty relevant, her album reached #1.

Saw her latest album as a recommended release on JPOPSUKI and downloaded. Really great stuff! Very "American" styled but I don't mind it with this release. My favorite is "Take It Outside" - great production!

Sales are so depressing though! Seems they really tried with this release, being the first on a new label. But... something didn't work for whatever reason. Just angers me that crap like Namie's latest sells so much and then this gem is over-looked. Of course there are some snoozers and it's a different style but the good stuff on here is really great. :(

She deserved the best. Album is amazing. I LOVE Forever, Take It Outside, Come Back To Me (this would do so good in America), Superman, and Memory Box.

Had this been released earlier in her career it would have probably gotten much more attention. But everyone is more concentrated on idol stuff.

I mean... Remember when m-flo was actually popular? Ahh, I'm -so- glad that I could experience the early 2000's Jpop scene. Of course idol groups were still popular, but there was more of a balance. Now it's completely skewed.

I've been having many Crystal days recently. Her music has really struck me. It's weird, some time ago I really couldn't get into her at all - something about her voice and songs etc. rubbed me the wrong way. But VIVID really changed that. That album really has the power to convert people into fans. I've been really falling for her music since then and I'm happy that's happened. So much to love. Currently discovering Call me Miss...'s gems. :D (Sorry about the random fan story, had to get that off my mind.)

I think if Crystal wanted to go overseas, she probably could. But in reality, the overseas market is much more difficult to succeed in.

I mean, does anyone remember Amerie? She was, in my opinion, -very- similar to Crystal. She was even Korean and African-American mix. But after very limited success, she's basically off the map now.

She still has a record deal, she's still working with good producers, even her videos are still really good quality.

Japan is just moving in a very different direction right now as opposed to, like the article stated, the early 2000's.

Of course if she went overseas I'd still support her, but I think that would send more of a message that it's impossible to succeed in this market if you don't look Asian and therefore you should stop trying.

I think what she needs is better tie ins and tv appearances. But for all we know, she could be very happy with what she has right now. Some artists prefer a more intimate connection to their fans.

I think the fact that she embraces both sides of the spectrum is what makes her special.

I love Crystal but I feel she lacks the "x-factor." She can be really basic at times. I feel like when you look at Ayu, Kumi, and Namie you can immediately sense that they are big stars just by looking at them and their charisma. I feel that's something not in Crystal. :/ Considering that I think she's had a lot of success over the years and I'm sure she's very happy with all shes accomplished already.

I disagree, look at Kana Nishino ,YUI and I dunno why you put Namie (well I guess maybe because older Namie was cheerful and grabbed attention, not the current Namie who looks dead and vancant)

but all three and more, exude zero charisma, sorry to their fans but that doesn't seem like a problem for C'kay who is always cheerful and interesting whenever she appears on TV or does live

I think she has had lots of success but I still think there was and is something that always held her back from being way bigger than she should be and that is addressed in the article,

I do think Kuri is happy,but if listen to her recent interviews she is well aware that her popularity in Japan is at its lowest and she needs to expand now since she is getting older

It's true, it isn't surprising, but what the article mentions is really important to talk about, I think.

Crystal doesn't have to completely leave the Japanese music market.
She can try to make it here and then go back to Japan via 'a comeback'
At this point, anything is better than releasing albums and letting them flop.
With the right promotion, vivid could do great here. Forever is a great song, and it would sound nice both in English and on the radio.

Thought the Daishi Dance track would be better.

Eternal Memories is still one of my favorite songs by Crystal. It has a real vulnerability to it. It's extremely well produced, imo. It's super nice to listen to on rainy days haha. I love it and still remember when I discovered it~

TBH, Crystal was actually the very first Jpop artist I heard aside from anything included in anime. I was browsing the Sony.jp homepage in late early/mid 2004, when CK5 was about to be released, and noticed an English name and clicked on it out of curiosity and fell in love with her.

I love her early sound, up until 4Real are my favorite moments. But she's definitely continued to grow over the years! She's had low points and high points.

It's weird that after Color Change, she released a best album that did pretty good. But then Spin the Music just did horribly, and then the subsequent Vivid did as well.

Meh, I can't get too upset over her sales. I know her music is good. :)



Also, she'll be holding another acoustic tour! Crystal Cafe 2013 begins on March 4th until the 10th. I believe the last one was small as well. I'm thinking about trying to get tickets. It'll be my first time seeing her if I do!

Crystal Kay was featured as a model in a US music video. Rough Water (feat. Jason Mraz) by Travie McCoy. I hate the song but I love Crystal's random appearance.
