Ueda Takes a Closer Look at Women's Fashion Preferences

For Japanese women, ‘leggings' have become essential fashion items. [‘Leggings' are tight, form fitting trousers. In Japan they are sometimes called ‘トレンカ(trenca)' and/or ‘スパッツ(spats)'.] It has quickly become a fad, but there is one man that abhors the trend. He is KAT-TUN member Ueda Tatsuya, a man with a markedly different sense of fashion.

His tirade first started in the radio program ‘R-One KAT-TUN' broadcast on September 29th. Fellow member Nakamaru Yuichi asked “Why do you get so charged up about leggings?” Ueda clearly stated his thoughts.

“What the heck are they anyway? They are soooo not sexy.”

“If I see someone wearing them, I don't consider her as a woman.”
Ueda continued his denunciations.

“They're not jeans, but neither are they skirts. Why hide [the legs]?”
“Leggings simply make women look less attractive.”

“If it was cold, everyone should wear normal tights. I absolutely will not accept leggings!!”

Ueda still went on adamantly arguing against leggings. He must have had a very bad experience concerning them. When a KAT-TUN fan chatted with Ueda via phone during the program, he even asked her whether or not she wore leggings. Throughout the entire program he kept up his fierce ‘anti-leggings' rhetoric.

Ueda has always been unafraid to voice his likes and dislikes about women's fashion choices. At one time he mentioned “Girls wearing skirts are 1.5 times better than those who don't.” At another instance he said “Girls wearing sleeveless items look stylish.” There must be many other personal preferences that Ueda hasn't talked about yet!

A more recently aired broadcast of the same radio program celebrated Ueda's birthday. He used the opportunity to again continue his discussion about leggings!

The movie ‘BANDAGE' starring KAT-TUN member Akanishi Jin will premiere on January 16th next year. Akanishi will release a new single as a member of the band ‘LANDS' that appears in the film!

The movie takes place in the 1990s when rock bands were all the rage in Japan. The story centers on a group of young men who devote themselves to music. Akanishi plays the role of Natsu, who is the vocalist of the rock band ‘LANDS'. The title theme song for the film is performed by Natsu and LANDS, and now that song will be released as a single. It is scheduled to go on sale this autumn.

The song was written by music producer Kobayashi Takeshi. He will also make his directorial debut with this film. Kobayashi and Akanishi appeared at the fashion event Tokyo Girls Collection in Tokyo and revealed the song for the first time. Akanishi commented about the song. “Since I never had performed a song like this one in my career, I was not sure how to sing it. But I put my trust in Kobayashi-san and followed his advice.” The director Kobayashi was confident about the film's mass appeal! “I'm sure both adults and young people will enjoy the movie.”

On a random note, I randomly had a dream recently about Akanishi after not dreaming about anyone in KAT-TUN for a long time. It was weird because my friends and I were casually talking to him, and then I freaked out because I needed to guy buy a book. So I ran away to the book store to buy this children's book... and then when I was about to buy it, I saw my friends and the three members of KAT-TUN that were in my dream walk into the store, and then Akanishi was like, "Let me pay for your book! :)" It made me happy. I saved 1600 yen.

Because I've been ignoring KAT-TUN for a long time since they basically fell off the face of the earth for a long time, I completely forgot that Akanishi was doing this song, so this is the first time I'm hearing it. It's interesting. :) I like the guitar and that melody... That melody that I'm talking about actually kinds kind of Japanesque to me, slightly, so I like it. I can't wait to hear a non-radio version.

XDD I'm kind of so-so with Kamenashi, but I do think that he's beautiful in a yukata/kimono. I still remember the Kaizokuban performance of Kizuna. And he came down from the ceiling or something dressed in a kimono... ^o) It was a beautiful performance. Probably the only other person who could get away with that is......... no one. :S



Hmmm... I wouldn't expect it to be the same or different really. I've been following KAT-TUN since 2001, and to me, between 2001 and 2006, and 2006 to now, their style has changed slightly.

So I wouldn't think that LANDS would be the same as KAT-TUN. XD; But yeah, it is slightly a more 90s style than it is a 2009 style, I think.


I second. :S JE has just been spitting out half-assed crap for a while also. A lot of people on AHS could do waaaay better than these covers that are like, "Let's place the group in front of a background... and then put text all over them!"

XD The only reason I knew them in 2001 was because my family is Japanese, and at that time, my cousin in Japan was staying with us for schooling, and she was getting tapes from my uncle with video tapings, and there was one with KinKi Kids, and their KAT-TUN backdancers, and I was like, "That one guy is so beautiful! O_O (Taguchi Junnosuke)." But I didn't really get into them until... 2003-2004...

My liking Japanese music is mainly due to the fact that I'm highly influenced by my family.

I think Ueda is normal. :) He was the 3rd most popular ... back in 2004 or something. Mainly because of the group of people that he attracted. I love Ueda though. And he's a talented composer and lyricist. :)

Oh, on a random note... about lines that make no sense... in Tanaka's PIERROT song, I've always wondered, when he does this speaking/yelling-ish part that sounds like, "I don't wanna be a DUCK, I'm a PIERROT," are the words really, "I don't wanna be a rock"? YAY. someone who think Break the Records is better than QUEEN OF PIRATES. :D usually it's the other way around, from what i see. :P BtR, imo, is probably their best original album. it's not as flashy as QOP, but combines a lot of their sound from the past couple of years in a much more mature manner. and i think lyrics are better all around.
