Vienna Teng

http://img199.imageshack.us/img199/2...221efc7eb0.jpg

Vienna Teng (born Cynthia Yih Shih October 3, 1978) is a Taiwanese American pianist and singer-songwriter currently based in Ann Arbor, Michigan whose music incorporates Folk, pop and a cappella. She uses piano and other instruments although her main instrument is piano.

Her lyrics as wiki puts it "writes lyrics with emotion, narrative, and personal history." Most of Vienna's songs are in English however her album Warm Strangers includes a cover of Green Island Serenade which is sung in Mandarin Chinese and live she has done a cover of the song Ru Guo which is also in Mandarin Chinese.

When touring live she sometimes tours with Alex Wong and other musicians who help with instruments. Live versions of her songs can sometimes be different than
the studio version due to different instruments being played. Sometimes multiple instruments are being played at once.

Vienna is okay with people taping and recording her shows although sometimes it depends on the venue itself because
of this there are many live recording of her shows some which can be found here.

Small biography
Spoiler:
My name is Nhia. I am a solo musician, songwriter, composer, & producer with a passion for music.

I'm a pianist at heart but I appreciate & love all different kinds of instruments and genres of music. It's an amazing way of connecting with people that I never thought I'd be a part of. Initially, I grew up being forced into piano lessons by my parents and I hated it. I almost finished level I when my instructor moved away, and I thought I was free. However, a couple years later I discovered my true passion for music and began to self-teach everything I had given up on. As the years went by, music became such an important part of me that I could not just let it be. It was then that I decided to become a music producer.

He's a fairly recent Hmong artist. His song "Mus Zoo Koj (feat. Sua Yang)" was one of the first Hmong songs I fell hard for. [Someone I liked introduced me to it...so it has a special place in my heart, not just for that reason though haha!]

I have not listened to any of his other stuff, but "Mus Zoo Koj" is just amazing within itself.

Corvina 5th July 2011 06:59 PM

I'm able to show more than a handful german singers and bands, but I'll start with a recent one.

Jupiter Jones

http://i54.tinypic.com/3348ahw.jpg

A 4 man punkrock band, founded in 2002.
They're known for their deep and great lyrics and also for the unique voice of leadsinger Nicholas Müller.

After three indie albums, they finally got a contract with Sony Music Germany. Their first major album called "Jupiter Jones" was released on 25th February 2011, followed by the first major single "Still" (english Quiet or Silent) on 4th March this year. "Still" is a big success, managed to get in the top 10 on the charts and being one of the most played radio tracks in the last three months.
"Still" is a meaningful mid-tempo ballad and though being absolutely not punkrock also part of their partly mixed style. It's originally about the death of Nicholas Müllers mother and loss in general.

Here's the official video for "Still":

Other songs:

Das Jahr in dem ich schlief

Alles Glück der Welt

Wir sind ja schließlich nicht Metallica

I highly recommend them, although her overall work isn't as (mainstream) pop as "Still" indicates.
Their major career just started and I'm really curious how their career will go on.

Sabotage

Lyrics:

Jälleen suloinen sabotage
What a lovely sabotage
mä putosin sun ansaas
I fell into your trap again
mä tiesin että enkelit
I knew that those angels
on kieroja kuin rinkelit
are as crooked as bagels
kun pilvellesi pyrähdin
when I flied to your cloud
oon ystävä mustelmien
I'm the friend of contusions
tarpeeksi niistä saa mä en
I can't get enough of 'em
siks vaik sun kanssa leikkimään
Although it goes without a question
ei jäisi hai tai härkäkään
that not even a shark or a bull would stay to play with you
täs oon taas ilman kypärää
I'm here again without my helmet

ja kohta nuolen haavoja
And soon I'll be licking those wounds
syviä ja suolaisia
So deep and salty
kun mikään ei tunnu miltään
When anything feels like nothing
kipu korvaa ystävää
Pain is your only friend

on mua viety huoneisiin
I've been taken to all sorts of rooms
ja murtauduttu mun tunteisiin
and then they broke in to my feelings
nähdäkseen siel ei mitään oo
So they could saw the emptiness it holds
vaik käyttäis kirkkainta valoo
Even if you would use the most pure light
siel kaikuu kun huutaa "haloo"
Echoes are heard when you shout "hello" in there

mä tarvitsen mun haavoja
I need these wounds of mine
syviä ja suolaisia
So deep and salty
kun mikään ei tunnu miltään
When anything feels like nothing
kipu korvaa ystävää
Pain is your only friend
joka ei jätä milloinkaan
Who never leaves you
nöyränä vartoo vuoroaan
Just humbly waiting her turn
When anything feels like nothing
kipu korvaa ystävää
Pain is your only friend

030182-xxx* hoen mun nimeä
030182-xxx I repeat my name
mykkiin puhelinvastaajiin
to the silent answering machines
et saisin sut viel kerran kii
So I could reach you once again
muuttaisit mut viel kerran eläväks
You would change me into living being one more time
kuulevaks sekä näkeväks
Who hears and sees
030182 - sabotage hoen sun vastaajaan
030182* - sabotage I repeat to your answerer

mä tarvitsen mun haavoja
I need these wounds of mine
syviä ja suolaisia
So deep and salty
kun mikään ei tunnu miltään
When anything feels like nothing
kipu korvaa ystävää
Pain is your only friend
joka ei jätä milloinkaan
Who never leaves you
nöyränä vartoo vuoroaan
Humbly waiting her turn
When anything feels like nothing
kipu korvaa ystävää
Pain is your only friend

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b81/Sa-Sa/bosson.jpg
Bosson (born Staffan Erik Olsson 21 February 1975) is a Swedish singer-songwriter. He first gained nationwide fame in Sweden when he imitated Michael Jackson in the first season of Sikta mot stjärnorna, performing Black or White and winning his semi-final. His big break as a solo artist came when composing and performing the song "One in a Million" from the album One in a Million which became a Top 10 hit in Europe and Asia in 2000 and 2001, which also appeared in the movie Miss Congeniality. He wrote it to his then girlfriend Jessica Olérs, Miss Sweden 1998, and was nominated for a Golden Globe.

Two years later the successful follow-up Rockstar was released, and in June 2007 he released his fourth album Future's Gone Tomorrow / Life Is Here Today. He served as an opening act for Britney Spears during her tour in 2000, and has toured with Kylie Minogue. He has also written songs for Amy Grant and the famous guitarist Al Di Meola. As well as in his native Sweden, Bosson has achieved huge success and toured extensively in countries like Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan. He also performed with Dima Bilan (a very popular Russian singer and winner of Eurovision Song Contest 2008 for Russia).

Time to introduce more British singers/groups

This time I shall introduce:

Sugababes (I'm choosing to talk about the line-up from 2002-2005)
http://i843.photobucket.com/albums/z...ugababes-2.jpg

(Apologies if the pictures is too big, it will resize itself, it's just photobucket being evil)
Quote:

The Sugababes are an English pop girl group based in London, consisting of members Heidi Range, Amelle Berrabah and Jade Ewen. The Sugababes were formed in 1998 with founding members Siobhán Donaghy, Mutya Buena and Keisha Buchanan. Their debut album, One Touch, was released in 2000 under London Records. Donaghy soon departed from the group, which was later dropped by London. With the introduction of Range, the Sugababes signed with Island Records and experienced a higher level of commercial success, releasing three multi-platinum albums. The group survived a second line-up change when Buena left and was subsequently replaced by Berrabah. After eleven years in the group, Buchanan was replaced by Ewen. The fourth line-up signed with RCA Records in 2011 after parting with Island.

In 2006, British Hit Singles & Albums named the Sugababes as the most successful female act of the 21st century with six UK number one singles and eighteen UK top ten hits. Their number one singles include such songs as "Freak Like Me", "Round Round", "Hole in the Head", "Push the Button" and "About You Now". They have also accumulated four UK top three albums (all of which have gained at least platinum certification), including chart-toppers Taller in More Ways and Change. The Sugababes have been nominated for six Brit Awards, winning one for Best British Dance Act in 2003.

Sarah Connor!

Sarah Connor is a German Pop, RnB and Soul singer active since 2001 and known for her powerful voice and "classy ****" image. Her first single "Let's Get Back to Bed - Boy!", an RnB song which is literally about having sex for a year, was only a minor success, but when she released the grand ballad "From Sarah With Love" she shot straight to #1 and stayed on the charts for almost a whole year. That song and a specific performance of it at "Wetten, Dass...", where she wore a transparent dress seemingly showing that she is wearing no underwear, made her a star instantly.
Her first album "Green Eyed Soul" followed and sold over 500.000 copies.
After that she released 7 more albums, sold far over 5 million records and had a 4 single #1-streak years later, making her Germany's most successful female pop singer. She is certified with over 40 Gold and Platinum records. She also won a World Music Award.

Albums:
Green Eyed Soul, 2001
Unbelievable, 2002
Key to my Soul, 2003
